Death?

[edit]

TMZ reports that Juice Wrld died today, I don't know about any other sources. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joey125a (talkcontribs) 14:57, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Likewise, I found no other sources, except TMZ. The Wikipedia entry on his death could be false and thus irresponsible. Per TMZ, he had a seizure, and was bleeding from his mouth. That doesn't mean that the seizure caused his death. Did the seizure cause him to bite his tongue? Did his actual cause of death result in stress that caused the seizure? Let's wait for an autopsy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:6000:F246:DC00:79:F9BF:DDB0:B778 (talk) 15:19, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Juice's flight from California landed early Sunday morning and, after deplaning ... witnesses tell us he suffered the seizure while walking through the airport. Law enforcement sources say he was bleeding from the mouth when paramedics got on scene.

We're told Juice -- real name Jarad Anthony Higgins -- was still conscious when he was rushed to a hospital. However, he was pronounced dead a short time later at the hospital. The cause of death is unclear at this time.

Juice Wrld's major-label career was just starting after he almost climbed to the top of the charts in 2018. His first huge hit came in summer 2018 with "Lucid Dreams" ... which made it to #2.

In fact, it was that song's success that drew the attention of Interscope Records ... which signed him to a multi-million dollar contract.

Juice also had a feature on Travis Scott's enormous "AstroWorld" album, singing the hook on the track, "No Bystanders."

Higgins' stage name was reportedly inspired by Tupac Shakur's performance in the 1992 film, "Juice."

It was said that Juice Wrld swallowed a bunch of percs to hide from authorites in the airport ElijahRus (talk) 19:20, 9 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Death conspiracies

[edit]

Some people are thinking that Jared's Death on Sunday was FAKE. Due to a lot of Coincidences such as Juice Wrld - real name Jarad Higgins -posted a tweet in April 2017 saying: "My goal is to get overly famous, shine for a couple years.. then fake my death."

Desperate fans have dug up the tweet, clasping to the hope that his death could potentially be fake.

One follower wrote today: "Please Juice. Please don't make this tweet a reality. We won't be mad. We just don't want you gone."

Another said: "Okay so please tell me this was all fake."

"For the love of all that is holy I pray to God this is fake and he is really just faking it," wrote one devastated fan.

According to TMZ, the singer was bleeding from the mouth but was conscious when he was taken away by paramedics.

Sadly, he died in hospital a short time later. or did he?

More things related to maybe faking his death included lyrics in his song "Legends" were the lyrics "we Aint making it past 21" his 21st birthday was a few days before his death.

He also referenced John legend in his song who also died on December 8th. juice wrld is dead

Moreover, FOX News reports that some fans had faked seizures prior to his death. Could this all be a big PR stunt, and the police, paramedics, media, coroner, hospital staff and 500+ other professionals who saw his lifeless body are all part of the conspiracy??? some of the passages in this article are not particularly encyclopedic, and read as if they were lifted from a fan site. PurpleChez (talk) 19:59, 9 December 2019 (UTC) Hey @PurpleChez:, it is unclear if you're asking a question here or not. Which sections do feel are not encyclopedic, and quotes from the article would help. AwesomeJedi (talk) 04:09, 11 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The "lyrical themes" section seemed to me to be especially so. It's very well-written, but maybe not encyclopedic. Just a bit flowery. No big deal though. If the consensus is that it works then I have no problems. PurpleChez (talk) 14:32, 11 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Apart from the word WRLD in the caption for that photo, how is that a source? In general, if something isn't reported by published sources, it's not of encyclopedic interest and then the article shouldn't mention how long they were together Unknown Temptation (talk) 18:10, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If the length of their relationship is not of encyclopedic interest, why did the article at the time of Eharela31's comment mention that they had begun dating in early 2019? Is there a way to quantify inferred meaning from the caption in the Instagram post? Currently the article references one of Lotti's 2019 Instagram posts for its updated "November, 2018" claim, though this post also does not explicitly state whether or not they were in a relationship at the time. Something as subjective as whether or not one or both of the Instagram posts of interest imply convincingly that the two were "dating" (current wording of the article) instead of something more casual is open to interpretation by any editor who comes by. What is needed is a source which definitively states that they were dating at some time: as an example, along the lines of "...while published sources report their relationship beginning in early 2019, they may have begun dating as early as October 2018, evidenced by several of Lotti's posts...". I doubt anyone wants an RFC on what can and can't be inferred from Instagram posts (if that hasn't been covered in the style guide already...) Matt.syl (talk) 01:24, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Death Location

Juice WRLD actually died in Chicago and not Oak Lawn. Chicago Midway Airport is in Chicago. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.232.51.215 (talk) 02:17, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Could it have been that he was pronounced dead in Oak Lawn? Matt.syl (talk) 01:26, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Accordingly to a BBC article, he "suffered a seizure during a police search of his private jet when it landed in at Chicago airport and later died in hospital." This suggests two different locations. (See https://www.bbc.com/news/newsbeat-51218254) The Chicago Tribune further clarifies the hospitals he was taken two and the location of the hospitals. (See https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/breaking/ct-juice-wrld-autopsy-reports-20200123-frh642ofxjfwzlxkpkvct7dujq-story.html) The article clearly states "Higgins was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where more Narcan was administered, again with no change in his condition, the report states. He was transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 3:14 a.m." Thus the statement that he died in Oak Lawn and not in Chicago is accurate. The article looks great. It's just that the references are a mess and need to be fixed. I'm putting the article  On hold for seven days. The Ultimate Boss (talk) 20:53, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have heard from different people different things about it, but what I've mostly heard was that WP:OVERLINK did not apply to ref formatting. If you insist, I will comply for whatever will get this passed, but I'd rather have them all linked (which I bet they're not anyway at the moment). dannymusiceditor oops 22:23, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
DannyMusicEditor, its been way over seven days and you haven't done any edits to the article. I will give you another 2 days to do address my issues. If you don't, I'm afraid I'm going to have to fail the review. The Ultimate Boss (talk) 22:50, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The Ultimate Boss, I asked you a question above that you seem to have ignored. I even left you a message on your talk page about it. I suppose I should have been more clear in that I was questioning if that was really necessary instead of making note of it. Once I get the answer to that, I will know how to approach finishing the article. dannymusiceditor oops 00:34, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for butting in here, but there is no policy/guideline against linking every time in the references, in fact many GAs/FAs/FLs etc. do. The important part is consistency, a) link every time b) link none c) link the first time for each. I glanced at the other comments from the reviewer and they all look like well-founded and sensible comments. Aza24 (talk) 03:02, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for this insight, Aza24, I thought but wasn't sure this was the case. I'd prefer to get them all linked up so nobody has to go looking for the link on the publisher. I agree that all the other concerns brought forward by the reviewer are reasonable and will fix those accordingly in the morning. dannymusiceditor oops 03:46, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I really do love Juice Wrld, and am really sad he died at only 21 years old and a day after my birthday, but I am back in school full time now and don't have time to continue the review. I ask that another nominator takes over for me. The Ultimate Boss (talk) 06:10, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That's fair. I will send this to the GAN talk page in the daylight hours, but for now I must sleep. Never mind, a second opinion request will work. dannymusiceditor oops 06:14, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Second opinion request

TL;DR: Original reviewer can no longer continue the review. Although I have not followed through on their comments yet, I have received feedback on my questions that can now allow me to finish it. Another reviewer to supervise this nomination would be appreciated. dannymusiceditor oops 06:19, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @DannyMusicEditor:, I'll take this over. It looks like the refs have improved but I think all the comments above are sound. I don't understand what your reply about overlinking was? I'll add some comments about prose, but it's a well-written article. Kingsif (talk) 17:39, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Kingsif: The original reviewer is particularly anal about linking in reference formatting as well as which parameters to use for what information, when it makes little or no visual difference. Personally I think it is practical to link a publication in a reference every time, especially when it is used many times from different journal articles, so a reader doesn't have to search for the one reference that does link it - this would be what the original review was aiming to do. It is both consistent and convenient. Thus I do not wish to do this unless you absolutely insist, but I think most would not require this. As for the others, I don't see where said changes are necessary per the GA criteria, or the layout guidelines linked. Your suggestions below I shall take a look at and complete, I'll let you know if I have further response or questions. dannymusiceditor oops 03:50, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I also dispute whether MOS:QWQ is valid on source titles. It doesn't say anything about it in the page. I thought reference titles were to be taken verbatim. dannymusiceditor oops 03:57, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@DannyMusicEditor: there's nothing in the GA about wikilinking e.g. journals in refs, and different views on ref formatting (i.e. no true standard). I am indifferent on what you do here. And if QWQ doesn't mention something, I won't hold you to it. Kingsif (talk) 13:05, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Kingsif, I must regretfully inform you that I would like you to fail this for now. I have gotten very busy, and do not see a light at the end of the tunnel of when I will be available to work on this again. I thank you for your comments, but it's just not fair for me to have you keep it open this long. dannymusiceditor oops 05:21, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@DannyMusicEditor: Ok then, feel free to ping me when you next nominate it. Hopefully you'll have been able to spend time really working on it :) Kingsif (talk) 12:24, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • his father left, leaving his mother to raise him as a single mother along with one older brother - needs an edit for clarity. Is it his mother's older brother, his older brother? Is the brother being raised by the mother or helping raise Juice? The phrasing makes all these dubious, even though I assume it's Juice's older brother and the mother raised both of them alone.
  • He was allowed to listen to rock and pop music, however, and he found this on video games - was he allowed to listen to those genres or did he find them in video games? Some combination of both? Also, since there's multiple genres, "this" should be "these".
  • The wikilink for "lean" should be Lean (drug) rather than purple drank (the latter is a redirect). I am also surprised that article tells you how to make it.
  • Is there anything to add about how his mother inspired him to play piano? Did she play it or did she encourage him?
  • He signed subsequently with → "subsequently signed with"
  • Many hip-hop blogs such as Lyrical Lemonade featured it,[17] - [17] is the only ref, and points to Lyrical Lemonade. "Many hip-hop blogs" is completely unsourced and should be removed. There's no indication of scope. Even 'primary sources', a selection of other blogs as refs, would be okay.
  • receiving a Best New Music designation - do you mean "award"?
  • Higgins' debut full-length Goodbye & Good Riddance, → Higgins' debut full-length album, Goodbye & Good Riddance,
  • XXXTentacion was shot and killed during a robbery attempt a day earlier - this should have the date and then say it was the day before the album was released. The last time frame referenced is Peep's 2017 death, not the album release, and it makes it sound like X died the day before Peep.
  • The song "Legends" from the EP debuted at number 65. needs a ref
  • It debuted at number 68 and peaked 67 next week on the Billboard Hot 100 → "It debuted at number 68 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked in its second week on the chart, at 67"
  • The following day, - when time references are unclear (in the prior two sentences we've had single release, chart position, second week chart position. To which date is this phrase referring!) just give the date. Just give the date.
  • released the official version of "Motions" on SoundCloud on July 25.[30] On July 20, 2018, Higgins announced his first tour - but when you have ended a sentence on a date, you can refer to it at the start of the next. Here, it would flow better to say "Five days earlier, Higgins had announced..."
  • The paragraph beginning In December 2018, Ski Mask the Slump God confirmed... reads more like a list than prose, could the sentences be varied a bit?
  • Why is information about his death duplicated in the career section? In an unreferenced paragraph, this should just be removed.
  • Regarding the associated acts param in the infobox, this should only include artists with which he had at least 2 significant collaborations. Some of those included qualify, others don't.
  • Maybe make the Posthumous releases header say "2020–present: Posthumous releases" to match the other career sections?
  • First two posthumous releases paragraphs can be combined to one. Both short and about the same period. The lengthy quote block is unnecessary and should be removed
  • This section also feels very list-y, and needs some update clean-up, e.g. On April 23, Higgins' estate announced on his Instagram account that his first posthumous single, "Righteous", would be released later that night.[62] Released at midnight on April 24, an accompanying music video with footage of Higgins was uploaded to his YouTube channel. - we don't need to know about the announcement once the single has been released unless there's something inherently notable about the announcement itself. (E.g., on an actor bio we don't say it was announced they would be in X film, and then when X film was released. We just say when it was released and that they were in it.)
  • Higgins' estate publicly announced the title of the late rapper's first posthumous album had been changed to Legends Never Die on July 6. - press release-y. Just say that the album's title was changed. It would also read a lot better if this paragraph was reordered. Put the album release first, then mention the prior title change.
  • On the same day, Higgins' estate also released "Life's a Mess" featuring Halsey[68] and "Come & Go" a few days later on July 9 featuring Marshmello. - this sentence is ungrammatical. "a few days later" is not "on the same day". It would be easier to say between the album announcement and its release, two single collaborations were released.
  • "Life's a Mess" notably jumped from number 74 to number nine that week - since the source is just the Billboard chart, "notably" doesn't belong here
  • Split the information that's not about the album from that paragraph (everything from On October 23,)
  • In 2021, Higgins' final music video was released by Cole Bennett. The song, "Bad Boy", featured Young Thug and debuted at number 22 on the Hot 100. - needs a ref
  • Quite a few duplicate wikilinks to remove
  • Higgins was among the ranks of openly vulnerable artists born from the emo rap scene inspired by West's influential fourth album, 808s & Heartbreak (2008).[87] Billboard writer Michael Saponara claimed, "If West and his sparse 808s were a tree, it would have grown another branch with the blossoming art displayed by fellow Chicago native Juice WRLD in 2018." - this is a solid quotation, but it doesn't really say more than the previous sentence: that 808s influenced Juice. Perhaps a reframing: put the quotation first, then the other sentence, to say 808s influence Juice and then that he wasn't the only one?
  • "I was singing 'Street Lights'... - "Street Lights" should be in double marks, even inside a quotation
    • Is it possible to reduce this quotation? Wikipedia is not censored, but there isn't a need to have "nigga" present. Also bracket "Kanye" → [West] for style
  • His other influences included: Wu-Tang Clan... - don't need the colon
  • With a penchant for short, hook-heavy songs, Higgins seemed a leading figure for the current era of hip-hop. In 2018, the streaming platform Spotify named "emo rap" its fastest growing genre. Higgins achieved arguably the most mainstream success of any artist in the sub-genre. This was boosted by his collaboration with Panic! At the Disco frontman Brendon Urie. - some bold claims in here, so please attribute to Complex and/or the author of the article (Rindner), preferably quoting
  • Higgins himself considered the emo label to be both negative and positive. He felt that music sometimes has to be a bit dark to reflect his belief that the world is not really a light or a happy place - can you connect these sentences for flow?
  • ditto for When he did write a song, it usually began with hearing a beat and instantaneously conceiving an idea.[101] Higgins sometimes found himself alone with an idea for a song and afraid that he would be unable to remember it hours later after arriving at the studio
  • Higgins saw the value in his position as one of very few contemporary SoundCloud artists who could compose soul-bearing ballads and odes but remain comfortable freestyle rapping over classic hip hop beats. - again, please attribute to Complex/Rindner. Same goes for the next sentence, which ideally should be rephrased, and probably for everything lifted from the Complex coverage
    • Why are there so many inline refs to this article when sentences without quotations follow each other?
  • I'm not sure how the first paragraph in the lyrical themes subsection relates to his lyrical themes, it's more about his artistry and song conception
  • Apply what I said about the Complex coverage to the Hypebeast/Maduakolam article. I also think it would be good for Though not entirely groundbreaking, his musical approach provided a sense of familiarity that heartbroken adolescents of the current generation could gravitate towards to be rewritten to be clearer and less flowery
  • It doesn't need to reintroduce his mother in the personal life section when the early life section already did and discussed her.
  • Law enforcement officials later revealed they found three handguns and 70 lb (32 kg) of marijuana on the aircraft is this - certainly the guns part - relevant?
  • I'd combine the last three death section paragraphs into one and reorder a little: seizure, hospital, medical examiner, funeral and attendees
  • The pilot contacted authorities when he saw people carrying guns on the plane that he had not been made aware of - can be removed, it's just restating information from above and unnecessary in the context anyway.
  • Harry Dean, 27, of Chicago and Christopher Long, 36, of California were both arrested on gun charges, released immediately thereafter and given a court date for early the following year. - irrelevant to Juice. If there were a separate article about his death, then the plane search details would have a place, but not on Juice's bio.
  • The rapper had been under suspicion by the Federal authorities as a month earlier an incident occurred before he departed for Australia which prompted a search of his plane.[118] Badazz gave an interview threatening violence upon the pilot, before later in the interview calming down and reflecting on the dangers of young artists suddenly being overwhelmed with money. - the prose here needs significantly improving. Restructuring the sentences and appropriate punctuation are my suggestions (I don't want to just tell you what to write)
  • Need prose improvements for the next paragraph (beginning Rapper Ski Mask the Slump God, his close friend...), too
  • Introducing his mother again?
  • Way too long a quotation from his mother. Cut it down or summarize, as the prose had started
  • 21st birthday → twenty-first
  • Since the concert tours aren't in a table, there's no need to have notes in small text
  • Not enough awards to separate by organization, just put them all in one table
  • Media:
    • change the image in 2018–2019 section to upright to meet the size formatting MOS.
    • there is no specific discussion in the article of either of the song clips used, so I see no valid fair use rationale for either. I also don't think that this bio would really qualify for two; he had a short career with no significant change in style

Someone should definitely add something in the article about the documentary. The 40 second interlude on Legends Never Die was taken from the trailer of the documentary. Someone on Juice's team revealed this in an interview. This means that they had already made a trailer for the documentary. Reaction

[edit]

I am outraged to see Wikipedia being used to try to pin blame On this man's death on anybody but this man. It doesn't matter how many sources say Boosie Badazz blames the pilot for Higgins's death. Higgins was responsible for his own death. He stupidly ate drugs to keep from getting caught with them on an airplane with a group of people carrying illegal guns and 70 lb of pot. Doesn't matter how many sources verify Boosie Badazz saying what he said. He is a discredited Source himself. He's a criminal. Where she at this article actually publishes the fact but he threatened the pilot. It's totally irrelevant to say he calm down later. Wikipedia simply can't be the source of a threat on the life of another human being. Even though Mention of such a threat. It's not the pilot that broke the law, it was Higgins. Leaving that comment on Wikipedia is an indirect threat to the pilot of an airplane from a convicted Criminal, tried for one murder suspected in five others into a world of killers gangsters criminals and thugs. Boosie Badazz is not a credible source not even really a notable figure and his opinions should get no Credence here. It's the opinion of a criminal trying to shift the blame away from another Criminal. The pilot was not responsible for his death he was. I'll come back tomorrow and make severe deletions to this page unless someone can justify Falls within the bounds of what's permissible on Wikipedia. There are also other things in that section that lack relevance to The Heading. I am prepared to argue this to administrators. Jackhammer111 (talk) 23:53, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I see your point, Jackhammer, but the coverage of Boosie's comments were covered and reported in a major publication. Since this is the case, I can't personally justify removing reliable coverage of the material. If you can draw connections to one of Wikipedia's own policies which would argue against keeping the material you're referring to, I'd be happy to hear it. dannymusiceditor oops 21:15, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Jackhammer111, you suggest that the article states that the pilot was responsible for Mr. Higgins passing, but that is not actually the case. Mr. Hatch's assertion that the pilot was responsible is presented as such, a single notable person's opinion, and purposefully listed in the subsection fittingly entitled, "Reaction," not "Cause of death." The purpose of the subsection is to list some notable reactions to the event, not to establish the cause of death. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 22:42, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Difference between singer-songwriter and singer comma songwriter

[edit]

At core these are much the same labels and at the end of the day, it's all about making the article lead clearer in detail. Juice WRLD is a singer-songwriter because he writes and co-writes his own songs/lyrics only [4] whereas someone such as The-Dream is a singer comma songwriter [5] for being an artist who performs, writes his own material, and writes material for other artist (he is best known for being a majority writer for Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) e.g.) The songwriter article even has a section where it explicitly states under the multi-tasking songwriters section that as a singer "many singers also write songs for themselves, and as such, they are usually referred to as singer-songwriters."

Long story short, songwriters write songs for other artist. Singer-songwriters write or co-write songs that they perform themself. This is an issue of proper categorizing, not disputing sources. There is an issue evidently with fanboys on this article who have a huge problem with this clarity edit. ChicagoWikiEditor (talk) 21:28, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

what is a "fanboy", exactly? JimKaatFan (talk) 15:25, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@JimKaatFan: In this case a potentially bias editor. Future reference, if you aren't sure what something means, there's this thing called Google on the internet, you should check it out. When the dispute argument changes from certainty that Juice WRLD is a songwriter for other artist[6] into "well the source says this exactly"[7] when proven wrong, you might have a fanboy. ChicagoWikiEditor (talk) 20:13, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I googled "fanboy"; I didn't see the phrase "potentially bias editor" anywhere as a result, though. Not sure what "proven wrong" means in this context either. But fortunately, there is an RfC that I encourage you to take part in. I'm sure you will be more civil in the future and accept the result of that RfC like a gentleman. Cheers. JimKaatFan (talk) 20:34, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@JimKaatFan: Read the shift in tone/position of your own edit summaries. I linked them for you. Maybe that will help you to understand the context. ChicagoWikiEditor (talk) 21:05, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ChicagoWikiEditor Please read the results of the RfC below and understand why you were wrong from the start, wrong in every comment, and wrong at the end. Cheers. JimKaatFan (talk) 15:59, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@JimKaatFan: This is the most bizarre response timing I've ever received. Sorry that you don't have absolutely anything better to do and/or anyone to talk to so close to the new year and soon after Christmas. Nothing has changed regardless of a handful of other opinions which I acknowledged months ago. Nothing I said was "wrong", there are quite literally people who said they see no difference in the terms and the strict association of singer-songwriter to folk music is absolutely boneheaded, not worth further acknowledgment. Hopefully you fell better soon, this RFC means nothing to me but that you get to have your way. I don't really care. Cheers. ChicagoWikiEditor (talk) 23:00, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How should the first line of the article refer to the artist?

  • Choice A: "Jarad Anthony Higgins ... was an American rapper, singer, and songwriter from Chicago, Illinois"
  • Choice B: "Jarad Anthony Higgins ... was an American rapper and singer-songwriter from Chicago, Illinois"

Please indicate your choice and reasoning below. JimKaatFan (talk) 14:54, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

[edit]
  • A - As @FMSky: already pointed out, the singer-songwriter "category is built on the folk-acoustic tradition", and I find this a sound argument. Also, there are many sources that refer to Higgins as a songwriter, or a "rapper and songwriter", and some of those have been added to the article. It's the best way to describe him, as the sources do it. JimKaatFan (talk) 14:59, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • A, anything other than that doesnt make sense. Like, why not "rapper-songwriter"? does he only write the songs that have singing in it? --FMSky (talk) 15:01, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • A. "Singer-songwriter" has another very different meaning. Binksternet (talk) 15:24, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • A The common meaning of Singer-songwriter is something different. North8000 (talk) 16:44, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • B As mentioned in the above section, it is a categorization difference. I see that it was mentioned by @Binksternet: and @North8000: that the common meaning is "very different"? Care to elaborate? What is that based on? Certainly not how the articles are majorly written. Songwriter and singer-songwriter is ALMOST entirely interchangeable in meaning. Which is why I don't see how this has become such a controversial edit. Even being a section under the songwriters article titled "Multi-tasking songwriters" which states "Many singers also write songs for themselves, and as such, they are usually referred to as singer-songwriters." Seems you are all just noticing the opening sentence and just running with that. Lazily just associating singer-songwriter with folk music or instrument play despite folk music being practically if not completely a discontinued genre, and it being mentioned "this role has transmuted through different eras of popular music" in the very next sentence of that article.
Moreover, I don't know why "rapper" is constantly being mentioned by @FMSky: in his idea of what is such a sound argument (despite it being absolutely random). There was no discussion of excluding it from the article. Songwriter is always present in the artist infobox, whether they are a rapper or singer. Which all over Wikipedia the infobox has acted as a secondary for this and even other things. The entire dispute is that songwriter is a different categorizing label for opening the article. There are notable music composers who do not sing (songwriters), there are composers who write and perform their own music and also have writing credits exclusively for other artist (singer comma songwriter e.g The-Dream, R. Kelly, Kevin McCall etc.)), and then there's composers who write or co-write the lyrics for themself on songs performed (singer-songwriter). I notice none of you really have much to say. With @JimKaatFan: just sticking with "well the source says this precisely" despite this not being a source dispute. He is being described the same as "the source" either way. ChicagoWikiEditor (talk) 20:06, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
My opinion remains the same. But but regarding your post, the basis for your argument seems to be a new definition that I've not heard anywhere. Specifically you are saying that "singer and songwriter" is not suitable or / insufficient because that term means that they do not perform music that they wrote. North8000 (talk) 20:44, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It is quite literally backed by the article, maybe there is a comprehension difference, or maybe it is such an expansive article that you are choosing to focus on only specific text of it which you feel nulls everything else (as JimKaatFan) does. Either way, certainly not creating definitions. Also I am specifically saying that songwriter is it's own label. Just as singer. I have no idea how you interpreted your version ChicagoWikiEditor (talk) 20:59, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, what you said to me (twice) was that I "have no idea what I'm talking about". I'm making the same point as the other 3 editors that agree with me here. I'm glad to see you have softened your tone when speaking to North8000 (talk), but I still feel an apology in is order for how you've talked to me and FMSky in the past. JimKaatFan (talk) 21:07, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ChicagoWikiEditor, It's much simpler than that. My comment was based on your 20:06, 1 August 2021 post. Your 20:59 1 August post discussed other things without addressing my point, which is fine but that's what it was. North8000 (talk) 21:12, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@North8000: I'm not understanding this. I'm not seeing your talking point which I've allegedly missed. You said that these categorizations have very different meanings, I requested you elaborate. I then stated in response to your second discussion post from the top, that your interpretation is incorrect--> Specifically you are saying that "singer and songwriter" is not suitable or / insufficient because that term means that they do not perform music that they wrote<--. That is not what I said at all. The songwriter article and label factually has more range than singer-songwriter. I actually just realized that singer, a label so set on being correct for use is a redirect. Which is more logically a reason for singer-songwriter to be used and why there is a section of the songwriter article where singer-songwriter is contained in it and briefly explain (as mentioned twice above). As my intended final talking point of this discussion, there are many standalone songwriters who do not compose or perform their own music, which is why these are separate articles to begin with. ChicagoWikiEditor (talk) 22:40, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As a way to start clarifying my point I'll ask you a question: What is wrong with calling them a "singer and songwriter"? North8000 (talk) 22:53, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@North8000: (In the case of Juice WRLD, because I've already pointed out a few articles where singer and songwriter is more appropriate, if you read) Because with it, what would be the purpose of a singer-songwriters article? It is definitely not "because folk music". Trying to imply that folk musicians are the only singer-songwriters, I can't even begin to wrap my mind around how anyone could believe such a silly concept, but well this is the internet. Since every RFC editor is dead-set on reading nothing but the first sentence of the article before making their choice and without even slightly an open mind, there really is no point in furthering the discussion. ChicagoWikiEditor (talk) 21:33, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The (attempted) exchange I was having with you is just a sidebar and I think that I a;ready made my central point regarding that. But to re-iterate I think that an implicit argument of yours is " "singer and songwriter" means that they do not perform their work, and only "singer-songwriter" means that they perform their own work and therefore "singer and songwriter" is wrong." I disagree with that argument. It is founded on saying that "singer and songwriter" means that they do not perform their own work, a statement which IMO is wrong and unsourced and unsourcable. Sincerely, North8000 (talk) 00:45, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@JimKaatFan: No. You insisted Juice WRLD wrote songs for other artist, and when confronted with facts you changed your direction (see above section, referenced many times). You were wrong. Simple ChicagoWikiEditor (talk) 22:40, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of template

[edit]

Two editors, User:DannyMusicEditor and myself, have removed Template:Infobox event from the article. User:TheXuitts has reverted the edit four times. The template "should be used to specify one-off events, usually at the top of an article". In this case, the template is in the body of the article. Typically, this template would used if the entire article was about his death (which it isn't). The input of others would be appreciated. Magnolia677 (talk) 10:15, 17 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I would also like to note that my edit was reverted with the response that it was exemplary at another music BLP. I also think that box should be removed, but this isn't about hers in particular. I think it's possible this is a systematic problem that needs fixed. I think it should be something that is used if an article would be created about Juice's death. For example, see Murder of XXXTentacion. dannymusiceditor oops 15:27, 17 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I apologized and said it wouldn’t happen again TheXuitts (talk) 19:37, 17 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@TheXuitts: Would you mind reverting your edit to the article? Thanks. 20:07, 17 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please correct Background Information: Resting Place

[edit]

Juice Wrld is NOT buried at Homewood Memorial Gardens cemetery. Please update the "Background Information: Resting Place" notation. I am an employee at the cemetery and we turn away people on a weekly basis who are looking to visit the grave. Contact general manager Darren Keener at (708) 798-0055 to confirm. Is there a good reason not to remove this claim from the article? It's 5 weeks later. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:12, 23 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Ragerr (talk) 04:19, 11 January 2022 (UTC) Please capitalize "WRLD" as that is how "Juice WRLD" should be written. That is a little disrespectful to Jared and his fans. So please fix this mistake.[reply]

Too Soon...

[edit]

I am new to Wikipedia but I think that there should be a page about Juice WRLD's EP Too Soon... I have no idea how to make a Wikipedia page so I am just making a suggestion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ObieJuanKenobi55 (talkcontribs) 20:51, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The linked that is currently attached to reference Juice Wrld#cite note-134 leads to an error on the website, so it needs to be replaced with the link which is: https://www.altpress.com/news/juice-wrlds-team-staged-an-intervention-for-rehab-days-before-his-death/ ChonchiGamer (talk) 22:38, 13 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Why didn't Juice WRLD's relatives never stopped him consuming drugs? Was there any conflict between them? 41.222.180.163 (talk) 09:56, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I was reading the page and noticed in the relative section under his picture it said Young Dolph but where is his mother, Carmella Wallace? I just want that changed because it is disrespectful to his mother who had such a great son that died too soon. Mista Fleck 01 (talk) 23:50, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
