Talk:Emperor of the Fading Suns
Emperor of Rising Suns?
[edit]The update published on December 8 claims that another game (I assume) has been announced for 2020. I added a citation request since I could not find anywhere else this was mentioned. Unsure of motive but this feels like a false claim, especially since no citation was originally provided.
Installing on XP64 Hard to Find - Encylopedic Though?
[edit]You have to go through some odd steps to get this game to work on a 64-bit Windows system, but I've done it, and I can document it. Unfortunately, there's nowhere I can find, except my own head, where this information exists, or could exist, in any persistent manner. This leads me to Wikipedia, but I'm torn over whether such material is encyclopedic. Wikipedia is not a tech support site, but there is nowhere to link the information that is more appropriate and can be retained indefinitely. Thoughts? --208.41.98.142 12:52, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'd think it would not work here, but I wouldn't fight the info being preserved. Perhaps a link to a page that has these instructions, such as gamefaqs? Aristoi 17:31, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
A link to a site that has the solution would be best. Because its a DOS game though, all you need to get it to work is DOSBox or another decent DOS emulator though. I run it with DOSBox on Vista with no problem. Finfyd 07:59, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Finfyd
Regarding the style police comments, I agree that the format could use some tweaking. I might take a stab at it when I get some time. Finfyd 08:02, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Finfyd
- DearAristoi and Finfyd, I would support an extrental link to a page that has these instructions. Geraldshields11 (talk) 21:32, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
Edits
[edit]I've started to break the article into more manageable parts and will continue tomorrow.--Wilson 14:57, 19 February 2007 (UTC) ♦More progress, will need to rewrite some.--Wilson 16:05, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
It has been broken up but beyond that I don't know how to fix.--Wilson 14:38, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
- Nice job! I'd say making the tone a bit more formal and cutting some of the content down. A overview of the main parts would be sufficient for a next step. Aristoi 18:56, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thx. It's been cut down some, took out some of the more irrelevent details and fixed grammar besides that it might be ready for re-review.--Wilson 02:10, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
One of the links led to a warez side. I'm not a registered user so I imagine it'll revert, but hopefully someone else will catch it. It was the free-games-net link. 129.1.208.161 Alex 7:04, 11 April 2007.
- Are you refering to the home of the underdogs site? If so, whats the concensice on keeping it?--Wilson 02:24, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for adding the game to Wiki, it was such a great game that so many never got to know. In reference to Alex on the warez site, it is actually a site that lets people download games that arent able to be purchased any longer, it has no viruses, and does not share things that are still on the market, this is the only way short of getting lucky on a auction site or amazon.com of finding the game anymore, please do not make it out to be what it is not. Tried to change the tone to be more in line with wikipedia policy. Minor edits, word changes, etc. Removed the banner. Should we add a section on "critical reception"? I also recall the game had a terrible marketing campaign, will try to find a link. --Wilson (talk) 14:49, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Not sure about this part
[edit]"At any time when you are Regent you can declare yourself Emperor; however, once you do, you have to survive 10 turns while all the other houses try to eliminate you." After declaring emperor, there wasn't any special intervention though I was at war with all the houses. Also, although I played a single game so far, seemingly diplomacy (which seemed kinda flawed) couldn't assure the Regent position, while stealing the sceptors of Hazat was very easy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.118.183.1 (talk) 16:00, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
EFS Reality mod
[edit]I just want to point out that although the Reality mod sounds like a major improvement fluff-wise, the source used (Fading Suns RPG material) is set in post-Emperor War times. As such, the Known Worlds doesn't look like it used to at the start of the Emperor Wars (which in FS RPG is set to the year 4964), and many of the upgrades (like Agoras on every world, House Li Halan owning Rampart, House Decados owning Malignatius, etc.) reflects a post-Emperor Wars situation rather than a pre-EW one. Again, I believe the update sounds really cool, but it is (IMHO) worth noting that from a FS RPG perspective, the EFS:Reality game starts with the outcome of the war. Perhaps this is a new interstellar conflict exploding accross the Known Worlds? Like, EWII or something? :) Vithar Alderland (talk) 12:14, 29 May 2014 (UTC) (game developer for Fading Suns RPG).
- Thank you for the information Vithar Alderland . Maybe the article's text could reflet that but what would be used as a third-party source? Geraldshields11 (talk) 21:35, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- That's a good question, Geraldshields11. I don't have an answer to that. As far as I know there's no review or other source for the Emperor Wars mod that points this out. It is probably not a bid deal though? Vithar Alderland (talk) 21:44, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Dear Vithar Alderland, I think it would be acceptable to include a stable external link to the mod. The link would solve two things: 1) improve the usefulness of the encyclopedia, and 2) increase the number of readers drawn to the encyclopdia. However, the editors should be careful about adverts. I accessed this article because of that issue. Please discuss your thoughts. Thank you. Geraldshields11 (talk) 14:34, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hi again, Geraldshields11. I must admit that I am not well-versed in Wikipedia rules and regulations, but I think a link like that would be quite useful. If you possess such a link, then I cannot see a reason why you should not post it. Go for it :) Vithar Alderland (talk) 16:53, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
