Current status: Featured article
[edit]

I find that this article lacks accurate information in several areas, and thus I don't really think it is worthy of featured status. For example, a new Elder Scrolls project was basically confirmed when Bethesda announced that it bought the license to Fallout 3 (Todd was introduced as the person overseeing development of both Fallout 3 and the next Elder Scrolls title. Secondly, when discussing Release Dates, the first Official Announcement was 'Winter 05'. Also, the price of the Collectors Edition for the PC version was $59.99, not $69.99.

On another note, I find the content of the article badly done in places. It barely touches on Radiant AI, which is arguably the single greatest addition to the game done entirely by Bethesda itself. It also fails to touch upon the development of the TES Construction Set for Oblivion, which was the main project of the team for the first year or so of development. I think it is a well written article, but the simple factual errors and omissions make it fall short from Featured Status in my opinion.--Ratwar (talk) 04:52, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As regards your first paragraph, the sources used in the article conform to the details used in the article. If you wish to challenge them, please provide sources supporting your contentions. As regards your second paragraph, I do not currently have access to any sources which discuss "Radiant AI" in length. If you could direct me to them, we might move forward from this point with a fuller, richer discussion of the Radiant AI. Do you have any sources to develop your assertions regarding the Construction Set? It's a suggestion I'm not familiar with. Geuiwogbil (Talk) 01:24, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
For basic confirmation of the game: http://www.bethsoft.com/news/pressrelease_071204.htm ("Fallout 3 will be developed by Bethesda along with the next chapter of The Elder Scrolls, both under the direction of Todd Howard, executive producer of The Elder Scrolls.") - July 12, 2004. In fact, the original Oblivion page was started on July 12, 2004 probably due to this announcement.
As for the release date, I can't find an official source (my mistake), but I did find a source claiming that Game Informer gave the first Winter '05 date: http://www.oblivionportal.com/info/faq.php . Furthermore, wikipedia's own archive shows that rumors of a Q4 '05 release were alive as early as December '04: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Elder_Scrolls_IV:_Oblivion&direction=next&oldid=7608005
When talking about RAI, I'm just saying that it needs to be improved for this article to be comprehensive. I don't have any sources for that, but I feel it needs more significance in the article. I can't find a source about the TES Construction set, but I am very sure that most of the first year was spent on it (and thus mostly programmers were sent to work on it.
While writing this, I've had an additional thought about how funny it is that the article doesn't even mention Ken Rolston, the lead designer. --Ratwar (talk) 05:03, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The article didn't mention Ken Rolston because none of the major sources thought it relevant to note him when describing the game's development. I've added a brief note under the "Staff" section. I tweaked the discussion of release dates to conform to the information you've brought up. I found the Winter '05 figure: it's already in the article. I've moved a brief note of it to the "Release date" section. As regards RAI and TES, Wikipedia doesn't work on feelings or certainties; it works on Verifiable, Attributable, Reliable secondary sources, and follows their lead in all discussion. Please do find sources; I'm quite willing to make any additions or changes that can be reliably sourced. Thank you for your time. Geuiwogbil (Talk) 19:17, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup tag

[edit]

I added the {{cleanup}} tag per the essay, here. I think it's less of an issue in a development article than a regular article, but it's still annoying. SharkD (talk) 20:18, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That is an essay. It contains the advice and/or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors. It is not a policy or guideline, and editors are not obliged to follow it. There's nothing wrong with this article that really requires cleanup. If you feel that quotes are being overused, then by all means contribute to the article and make some changes yourself. I do not think that you should have placed a cleanup tag just because a particular appearance of an article annoys you personally. There is nothing in Wikipedia:Cleanup to support your personal viewpoint that the overuse of quotes requires cleanup, hence I have removed the tag. --Bardin (talk) 14:06, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article is out of date

[edit]

But i am not so good at writing articles so i will leave it to someone more cabaple so i added the tagThe Wise Vafhudr (talk) 12:23, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please explain what exactly is out of date so other editors know what need to be changed? --Bardin (talk) 12:29, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
