Yeah I don't get it out of all the articles I've seen that are said to be "baised" this one seems like the most prominent yet it is simply said to need a "cleanup". lol and :S
Needs to be brought down and started from scratch
[edit]Unbeliveable. This article is the worst one I've ever seen in Wikipedia. Tried to fix it, but none of the content makes sense. The mods are all "scheduled" and there is nothing concrete in that article. I think it should be deleted and rebuilt from the ground up.Dread Specter 04:34, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

poorly written

- As far as I remember, the first level had the player break into some hospital like facility to retrieve some samples and find out what happened to some of the protagonists friends. Of course the facility was not what it was on the surface and the player had to find a way through a bunch of underground laboratories which were researching the respawn generator technology.
- The second level had you rescue some friends from a warehouse and the third was another rescue mission.
- The player had to rescue a friend from an asylum (which started them without weapons), had to cross through an old subway line (which was rather linear) in another level, there was a night market level (which was rather open), one level had the player retrieve a code from a grathius outpost in the middle of a city and another level which had the player fight through the empty pipes and waterways of a dam under construction. The final level had the player fight their way up a skyscraper and ended with a boss fight on the roof top.
- Overall, the story could be summed up as: The protagonist tries to find out what happened to some of their friends, who were taken by grathius. They save their friends and rescue other people imprisoned by grathius. Stealing the respawn generator technology and using it for themselves, they form a movement against grathius. Subduing multiple grathius facilities, the player finally attacks the headquarter of grathius, where they confront the big bad.

no mention of bomb rats?
[edit]Devastation had one weapon which was rather innovative for its time (not many games would enable the player to directly control another entity at this time): player controlled bomb rats - literally, rodents carrying explosives controlled from the perspective of the rodent. The player character would bob a rat on the head to activate their electonics and set them down before the perspective changed to the view of the rat and control was transferred to the rat. Turning around, one could get a look at the model of the player from a rather low angle. Being entities of small size, one could squeeze through small holes, take some shortcuts a player was usually unable to take and give enemies a nasty surprise. Upon running into enemies, said bad guys would sqeal in fear for a bit before stomping on the rat. Bomb rats were usefull to take out the enemy respawn generators without running into tight groups of freshly respawned enemies.
