Restoration

[edit]

CAn someone please restore this page, it was requested by Roblox corporation board. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vendetta The Great (talkcontribs) 22:23, 1 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:Vendetta The Great Please read the WP:COI links I put on your userpage. If you have any connection with the company, please read those and follow how to disclosure your connection (additionally, paid editors must disclose to edit here.)
Regarding these two bio articles, the WP:consensus (linked to above) was to delete this one (redirect to the game). It should not be restored, as that is against consensus. Creating a new one, with sources, may be easiest via WP:AfC. The other one Erik Cassel is in a similar state but without a deletion consensus. It just fails our basic requirements of notability WP:GNG. Requests by Roblox may be better handled as COI edit requests, again following disclosure. Widefox; talk 23:00, 1 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Heya widefox can you check if david is still going on the builderman account? thanks -Kai 66.99.48.162 (talk) 20:31, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Why are we approving pages when told to by organizations? Since when have we ever done that? We have our own policies on whether or not pages of notable people are approved, irrespective of a company's opinion or wishes. We operate on transparency and accuracy not the wishes of businesses.
Can you please clarify? Averageeuropean (talk) 08:29, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This article has been approved by ROBLOX Board of directors sine 4-20-2017 at 4:20 PM PST and needs to be restored JimROBLOX (talk) 11:29, 22 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@JimROBLOX: Hey Jim. The article has been redirected due to lack of notability, meaning there isn't enough evidence to prove that this person is worthy of having an article. Notability is proved using reliable sources written by third-party websites that have been vetted by the community to be reliable. I understand that as a newcomer this may be a bit confusing, but I suggest you take a look at this discussion that took place back in 2009. Consensus that the subject was non-notable and should be merged into the article for ROBLOX formed in that discussion. What the board of directors at Roblox think about the article doesn't play a part, sorry. If you've got any questions, feel free to reply or ping me using {{ping|Anarchyte}}. Change the headshot picture to something like this: <img src="http://pioneersummit.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Dave_Baszucki_Photo-1.png" width="500px" alt="David Baszucki"/> I feel like it needs a change because the current one is in black and white. Can someone add david.baszucki to his roblox usernames? He is more active on david.baszucki and it is a rare name on roblox considering it has a dot in it, which is not available and under 50 users have dots.

Proposed trims to page

[edit]

Hi. My name is Samantha and I work for David Baszucki's employer, Roblox. I'd like to request some improvements to the page while following Wikipedia's rules for conflict of interest. My thinking was to suggest some trims of promotional or poorly-sourced content first, then see what can be added with better sources. Here are a few trims I'd like to suggest:

Proposed Trims
(1) Trim: "In a 2020 blog post after the murder of George Floyd, Baszucki expressed his support for the Black Lives Matter movement, expressing dismay at the large amounts of racial inequality in the United States.[30]"
Rationale: WP:UNDUE. The cited source is a brief blurb. This blog post is not something Baszucki is known for or a substantial part of his life.
(2) Trim: The entire "Awards and recognition" section
Rationale: WP:UNDUE and promotional. These awards are mostly just David being included in large lists of executives and are not major events in his life or something he is known for.
(3) Trim: "Baszucki spoke at the 2018 Disrupt - San Francisco conference.[21] In 2020, Baszucki funded a study on the effect of hydroxychloroquine on COVID-19, which showed no evidence of it preventing or treating the virus.[22]...One of the organization's first projects was the Baszucki Brain Research Fund, which partnered with the Milken Institute to launch a program that provides $2 million in research grants to support research into bipolar disorder treatment options.[24]
Rationale: UNDUE and RS. The content is cited to a press release, a brief mention, and a routine announcement of speakers at an event. None of these represent major events in his life or something he is known for. Listing every philanthropic endeavor, every event he speaks at, or every project he funds would go on for miles.
(4) Trim: "In a December 2016 interview with VentureBeat, Baszucki said, “We believe we’re starting to see a network effect. Retention is getting higher as more people come to play with their friends and have a better chance of finding their friends.”[16] Baszucki believes that Roblox is ushering in a new “human co-experience” category that will become larger than gaming. In a September 2018 interview with Forbes, Baszucki said, "Right when we started, we imagined a new category of people doing things together. A category that involved friends, like social networking; a category that involved immersive 3-D, like gaming; a category that involved cool content, like a media company; and finally a category that had unlimited creation, like a building toy.”[17]"(completed by FormalDude)
Rationale: Extremely promotional and editorialized. MOS:QUOTE discourages such extensive use of editorialized quoted material.

Thank you in advance for any impartial volunteers that consider my proposed trims. If/when some of the promotional content is trimmed, I'll also look for anything missing that could be added with better-quality sources. If there is anything I can do to be of assistance, please don't hesitate to ask. Best regards. Sspielman1 (talk) 21:10, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Sspielman1: I have removed the following quote from part 4 of your request:

In a September 2018 interview with Forbes, Baszucki said, "Right when we started, we imagined a new category of people doing things together. A category that involved friends, like social networking; a category that involved immersive 3-D, like gaming; a category that involved cool content, like a media company; and finally a category that had unlimited creation, like a building toy."

I will probably leave the rest of your request to other reviewers. ––FormalDude talk 21:13, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

 Done the rest. * Pppery * it has begun... 15:17, 13 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Pppery: Thanks so much for reviewing the trims I suggested! Do you have a minute to look at a few more suggested tweaks?
Proposed tweaks

Originally released for Macintosh computers, Interactive Physics went on to win multiple awards.[1][2] As a follow-up to Interactive Physics, Knowledge Revolution launched the mechanical design software Working Model in the early 1990s.[3] <-- These citations either do not mention Baszucki, do not say what they are cited for, and/or are just press release reposts.

Baszucki owns a roughly 13% stake in the Roblox Corporation, the company that owns Roblox, a stake estimated to be worth roughly $4.2 billion $470 million as of 2020.[4] <-- Correcting to what the cited source says for the value of Baszucki's stake (rather than the value of the entire company). He intends to use said he would donate any net proceeds future compensation he earns from Roblox's listing on the New York Stock Exchange to for philanthropic purposes.[5] <-- Copyediting tense issue and correcting "proceeds" to "future compensation".

Baszucki lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife and novelist, Jan Ellison, and their four children.[6]

After these I'll start working off-wiki to see what quality source material can be added after so much has been cut. Sspielman1 (talk) 20:07, 17 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Last round of requested tweaks

[edit]

I looked at the available source material in independent media for anything to add, but didn't find much substantial that was missing from the current page. I think the current page is basically complete and much better than the prior promotional version. However, there are a few things I wanted to suggest be added or tweaked:

  • Suggest adding an External Links or Further Reading section as follows:
External Links or Further Reading
  • Baszucki, David (February 15, 2022). "The CEO of Roblox on Scaling Community-Sourced Innovation". Harvard Business Review.
  • Adams, Susan (June 10, 2016). "Why The Creator Of Roblox Thinks His Gaming Platform Will Top Minecraft". Forbes.
  • Suggest adding some things to the "Early life and education" section
Early life and Education

Baszucki was born on January 20, 1963 in Canada.[7] He grew up in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. As a child, he was interested in dirt bikes, go-karts, and science fiction.[8] He attended Eden Prairie High School in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, where he was the captain of his high school TV quiz team.[7] He later went on to host his own talk radio show for KSCO Radio Santa Cruz from February to July 2003.[9][10]

Baszucki studied engineering and computer science at Stanford University.[11] While there, he did a summer internship at General Motors where he worked in a lab focused on controlling car engines with software.[8] He graduated in 1985 as a General Motors Scholar in electrical engineering.[12]

  • Suggest adding that he started the Baszucki Brain Research Fund (second sentence under Other Activities would be a good place for it): "Baszucki and his wife also started the Baszucki Brain Research Fund to provide grants to bipolar research programs.[13]"
  • Suggest consolidating the "Knowledge Revolution" and "MSC Software and investing" sections by deleting "==MSC Software and investing==" as these two sections are really about his activity at the same company.
  • Suggest adding to the end of the first paragraph of the "Knowledge Revolution" section "to schools and a 3D engineering simulation program it licensed to businesses.[8]" as currently the page awkwardly only describes one side of the business that was for schools.
  • The page has a lot of citations to columns that are opinion. These citations are either unnecessary or there are better sources available. I can improve the citations if editors feel that is an "uncontroversial edit" I can do on my own

Pinging @Pppery: who has helped me in the past. Thanks again for all of your help already-provided. Sspielman1 (talk) 23:20, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Done all except the external links addition (no objection to it, just would prefer another editor make the call as to whether those belong since responding to COI requests is not an area I'm generally involved in) and the "Knowledge Revolution" section (it's not clear exactly what you want changed; doing what you suggested would produce In the late 1980s, Baszucki, together with his brother Greg Baszucki, founded the company Knowledge Revolution and developed and distributed a simulation called "Interactive Physics", which was designed as an educational supplement that would allow the creation of 2D physics experiments to schools and a 3D engineering simulation program it licensed to businesses, which is both a run-on sentence and hard to read. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:57, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
