Well, I thought that Cait Sith's job was to be a fortune teller. Like when he first meets Cloud.

Technically, yeah, but I stole the notes from the UK FFVII guide. I'll fix it — Cuahl 8 July 2005 23:47 (UTC)

You can't use quotes around a word unless your actually quoting something. Either find a quote and cite it, use a term that is more appropriate for an encyclopedia entry, or change this to a statement such as "sometimes referred to as wacky"

Scottish Accent

[edit]

I'm gonna reword the accent thing. Cait Sith has always had an "odd" dialect and accent in the Japanese games, including FFVII. They simply didn't translate it in the original FFVII localization, same with Reno's speech pattern (~zutto). The reason an Irish accent was chosen was two fold; he has an accent in the Japanese version, and he's based on a Celtic myth. WtW-Suzaku 01:34, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

His accent was Scottish not Irish, there is some confusion between but words like "gob" and "lassie" are clearly Scotish.Gavin Scott 19:40, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

An entity of himself?

[edit]

I was just curious if Cait Sith is actually a self consious robot and, to some degree, seperate from Reeve? Well, I know at several points in the game Reeve appears to be literally talking through Cait, but before Cait sacrifices his body to get the Black Materia he says something like "Please don't forget me even if a new Cait Sith comes along". This statement seems to show that Cait Sith is, in himself, an individual and is self aware. I also noticed that in Advent Children, Reeve and Cait Sith sound nothing alike and I don't see any reason Reeve would need to change his voice after everyone knows Cait is supposed to be Reeve. So, does this mean that Reeve only gives orders to Cait and takes manual control only when nesessary?

•I believe that Cait Sith does have some form of AI atleast enough to function without Reeve in control of him the entire time. But Reeve is the puppetmaster so to speak, and yes he does talk through Cait Sith several times. But the way the game lays it out he does have some for of AI. J-Axe

From what I understand, Reeve actually has a special ability known as "Inspire", which allows him to give life to inanimate objects. The many different Cait Siths (there have been a few) are all robots that gain sentience after Reeve "Inspires" them. However, because they are robots, he can take manual control of them if need be. I'm pretty sure this is the case, but I can't remember where the source was, so I'll leave it be for now. WtW-Suzaku 01:34, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This "inspire" is interesting, I shall do some research. Gavin Scott 23:54, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think he has some Intelligence and Sentience.
Reeve - "Sorry to keep you waiting!! It's Me!!"
Cait - "I'll handle the rest!"
Cait - "Right or wrong, I'm still the same 'ol me."
Cait - "Thanks for believing in me."
Cait - "She said 'be strong'. I feel so happy."
Cait - "Owwww."
Reeve - "What happened?"
Cait - "I can still move more."
He says the next sentence after he 'realized' that the temple didn't crush him immediately.
Cait - "I can protect the Planet too! I'm kinda embarrassed..." *I guess breaking the lie of Cait not being a robot to some degree in the following sentences.
Kinda deep for a video game and I hope nobody steals this concept. Anyway, prior to sacrificing himself, and after realizing it, Cait/Reeve at odd times says: "Don't forget about me."
On the other hand, below is from another site.
"Dirge of Cerberus provides several details on how Cait Sith operates and what methods Reeve uses to control him. In one scene, Cait Sith is seen mimicking Reeve's own motions, indicating that Reeve uses a form of motion-sensing control. However, in another scene, Cait Sith is seen moving on his own, alongside Reeve. This implies that Cait Sith has his own AI and Reeve himself doesn't need to control him manually. It is evident that Cait Sith is operable with varying levels of autonomy and that Reeve is not required to operate him manually. It is also evident that each subsequent Cait Sith retains at least some memory data from the previous incarnations, as a replacement Cait Sith ("Number Seven") is able to play back data recorded by "Number Six."
In factuality, the only way for an organisms to 'feel' pain, whether it be mechanical or physical, would be the advent of amino acids. Electrical charges could be sent to our neurons or something but without the neurotranmitters (aminio-acids), I highly doubt we'd be able to 'feel', so I also suppose this is all here say. In this land of FFVII anything was possible, so Cait Sith might have felt his sacrifice and lack of aknowledgement Reeve or himself chose, but in our world Cait wouldn't have been able too. Nevertheless, before God and as an honest man I tell you that FFVII has to be the most moving story I've ever encountered in other games, or in other (fictional) movies for that matter. Amadeus is something thats more moving to me, but he was real. I really respect the person who made both concepts of Aeris and Cait Sith to be able to grasp it enought to portray it. Very deep individual I believe.InternetHero 23:48, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wow man... that was deep, what you said nearly left me speechless... - Xer

Ya, me 2. I was thinking though that since Aeris liked Zack b4 Cloud that maybe she based her love for him with Zack in mind, so even though Could likes Aeris for her 'Ancientness', Tifa could have been just as good as an ancient as Aeris. Nevertheless shes a human I wouldn't let Tifa be alone if I was Cloud.InternetHero 23:48, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reeve's Voice

[edit]

Should there be a credit put somewhere on the article for Reeve's voice actor? User:J-Axe

Not Always Aeris....

[edit]

depending on how you have responded to the other characters,i think you can(i havent played this game in almost 5 years) have cait sith say something other that Aeris and Cloud are a perfect match, same way you can have Tifa or Barret go on the golden saucer date with Cloud.its just down to the way you interact with them.shouldnt this be mentioned?Pikajedi3 15:36, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Moves?

[edit]

As i am hungry for info, what do Cait Sith use in battles? It is not verified here.

In Final Fantasy VII Cait Sith's weapon is a megaphone. However it is the stuffed mogs hands which hit the enemy during battle.

IPA Pronunciation

[edit]

I feel that it would help to have an IPA-style pronunciation of CS's name, for sake of saying it in the way the Japanese name is trying to. Also, if a reader is not wel-versed in reading Romanji, they might be apt to say "Keht Shee", rather than "Kate Shee", as I'm guessing is close to the Japanese pronunciation. Unfortunately, I'm not exactly familiar with IPA, so someone here would have to yoink it to the page. Cait SithCait Sith (Final Fantasy) – A simple capitalization change is not enough to differentiate this fictional character from the mythological creature, especially when various places use capital letters for the mythological creature's name, like this blog and this blog. The primary topic should be the mythological being per longterm significance. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 18:15, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Another note - Cait Sith (Final Fantasy) appears to have been the main place for this article before a new one was started here. An immediate history merge is in order after the move is complete. Or perhaps only the page's 2024 edits can be moved. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 18:21, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There is already a headnote for any similarly named article. Still, I'm not sure about using a dash. Tintor2 (talk) 20:36, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

*Oppose The mythological creature's name is spelled specifically different, even in the blogs you link to. The cat-sìth article itself doesn't list Cait Sith as an alternative spelling for the name. Googling "Cait Sith" predominantly turns up the Final Fantasy character, with the Cat-sith wikipedia article only appearing because *this* used to be a redirect to there (which would be a case of circular logic). Even publication work from Square themselves states the name is based off cat-sìth. It'd be hard to even argue this is a Japanese adaptation of that name in that context.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 18:27, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
