Requesting re-evaluation
[edit]@Link20XX: I request a re-evaluation in regards to this article's importance to WP:ANIME. The topic itself is seems to be crucial to anime as a whole and even makes a huge part of its subculture. lullabying (talk) 03:24, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
- I just did a copy-paste. Will up the importance to mid. Link20XX (talk) 03:26, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you, but I would argue at the very least it should be high, just like 2.5D musical was. It's a sub-article of a core topic (Japanese pop music) that focuses primarily on the history of anime theme songs. There are several magazines and even concerts dedicated to the anime song genre, as well as record labels and musicians who exclusively produce and release such music. lullabying (talk) 03:31, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
- If you feel that strongly about it, go ahead and do it yourself. I don't mind. Link20XX (talk) 04:02, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
- I will go ahead and do so. Thank you. lullabying (talk) 04:05, 22 March 2022 (UTC)

- ... that anime song themes originally included the titles and characters of the show until after the 1970s?
5x expanded by Lullabying (talk). Self-nominated at 03:28, 25 March 2022 (UTC).
- The article is long enough, free of copyright issues, and was nominated within seven days of its fivefold expansion. The hook is interesting and reliably sourced. Good to go.--NØ 12:46, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Lullabying and MaranoFan: I'm struggling to find where this hook is present in the article. Can someone quote where this appears? Thanks. Z1720 (talk) 17:36, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- Hmm, a bit embarrassing that I missed this. Waiting for Lullabying and then I'll reaffirm the tick.--NØ 17:47, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- It's under the "1970-1980" section: While anime theme songs originally used the name and settings from the series of which they were based, this led to the lyrics of anime songs being centered on the characters' thoughts and feelings for more universal appeal and allowing for context outside of the original animated work. lullabying (talk) 03:19, 9 April 2022 (UTC)
- I'm going to suggest an ALT below that might fit better with the article text:
- ALT1 ... that by the 1970s, the lyrics of anime songs centered on the characters' thoughts and feelings?
- @Lullabying and MaranoFan: I could not find text in the article that said the themes anime song lyrics changed in the 1980s, so I think mentioning "until after the 1970s" might not work in this hook. Thoughts on ALT1? Z1720 (talk) 14:54, 9 April 2022 (UTC)
- The article talks about this in the 1970s section and the changes it went through during this time. lullabying (talk) 19:16, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Z1720: how're ya feeling about this one? theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/they) 08:13, 13 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Lullabying: The article does not explicitly say what the hook is saying. The quote from the article that Lullabying cites above does not mention a change that happened after the 1970s where anime songs were no longer focused on the titles or the characters. I still have concerns about the hook and either a new hook should be proposed or more explicit language outlining these changes should be added to the article. Z1720 (talk) 17:08, 13 April 2022 (UTC)
- no consensus for a hook yet; another one would be helpful theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/they) 02:31, 17 April 2022 (UTC)
- How about using the same source; ALT1: "... that anime song themes initially included the titles and characters of the show?" lullabying (talk) 21:05, 17 April 2022 (UTC)
- I think "used to" would be better, but I'll ping Z1720. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/they) 21:53, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
- I agree with leeky, as the article does not speak about titles and characters being included in the theme songs in the 1950s. Used to might also be problamatic as it implies that characters and titles don't appear in theme songs anymore, which is also not accurate. Here are some ALT suggestions below:
- ALT2: ... that in the 1970s, anime song lyrics often centered on the characters' thoughts and feelings?
- @Lullabying and MaranoFan: Thoughts? Z1720 (talk) 00:10, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

- ALT2 implies that lyrics being centered on characters' thoughts and feelings were common but this is not true. The original source states that using titles and characters were common in the 1970s but lyrics focusing on thoughts and feelings were starting to become popular. The original article does also suggest that lyrics specifically mentioning character names and titles are no longer common in place of lyrics about feelings and thoughts as they are much more easy for non-anime fans to relate to. lullabying (talk) 20:58, 23 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Lullabying: can you suggest an ALT that would be in line with the sources? Z1720 (talk) 18:55, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
- ALT3: ... that in the 1970s, anime song lyrics centered on the characters' thoughts and feelings appealed to a wider audience? lullabying (talk) 01:56, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
- I'm fine with the above. The source for the hook is in a non-English language so I will AGF that the hook is verified. @MaranoFan: are you OK with the above hook, and if do can you re-add the tick so that promoters know this is ready? Z1720 (talk) 13:29, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
- I am going to re-add the tick since this fact is obviously there in the article and all of the previous conditions are still met.--NØ 13:36, 1 May 2022 (UTC)

Localizations of anime songs
[edit]I guess a section about usage of anime song in Western regions and localizations of original Japanese-languaged songs would be an interesting addition to the article. I mean until the early 2000s several anime productions received original English-languaged songs or the Japanese original theme song was localized into English language. This article is what I found regarding the topic. --Goroth (talk) 17:27, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- Honey's Anime is not a reliable source due to not having an editorial board. I think a few sentences could be mentioned but not a whole section as it overall is not notable. lullabying (talk) 01:44, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
