Cassandra "Cassie" Lang is a fictional character portrayed by several different actresses in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) media franchise, based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Lang is portrayed by Abby Ryder Fortson in the first two films, Ant-Man, Ant-Man and the Wasp. She is portrayed by Emma Fuhrmann in Avengers: Endgame, and Kathryn Newton in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), and is the daughter of Maggie and Scott Lang. Her parents eventually divorce based on her father's criminal activity, and her mother forms a relationship with police officer Jim Paxton. When she finds out her father is Ant-Man, a superhero with access to size-altering technology, she fully supports him and longs to become his partner. After being trapped in the Quantum Realm, Scott returns to find that five years have passed after Thanos eliminated half of all life, though Cassie survived and grew up. After Scott helps save the world and restore the "blipped" individuals, Cassie works with Hank Pym and Hope van Dyne to build a quantum satellite as well as her own purple version of an "Ant-Man" suit. In the Quantum Realm, MODOK hacks her satellite and brings her family to the Quantum Realm, where she helps local rebels fight against the tyranny of the exiled Kang the Conqueror.
As of 2023[update], the character has appeared in four films: Ant-Man, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Avengers: Endgame and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
- Abby Ryder Fortson portrayed Lang in Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp.[1][2][3][4]
- Emma Fuhrmann portrayed Lang in Avengers: Endgame.[5]
- Kathryn Newton portrayed Lang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.[6][7]
In Ant-Man, Darren Cross takes Lang hostage to lure Scott Lang into fighting him. Scott overrides the regulator and shrinks to subatomic size to penetrate Cross' suit and sabotage it to shrink uncontrollably, seemingly killing Cross.
In the Quantumania, Lang is 18 years old and acquires a suit similar to her father's. She is scientifically inclined, and gains an interest in Pym's old notes and learning more about the science and technology from the Quantum Realm. Quantumania director Peyton Reed said that he wanted to further develop the relationship between Cassie and Scott, as it was central to the previous Ant-Man films.[8]
Lang is briefly referenced in an end-credits scene in The Marvels, with Kamala Khan attempting to recruit Kate Bishop to a "kid superheroes" team and noting that Ant-Man has a daughter.[9]
