Category talk:Home computer games
Changing this category to be a subcategory of PC games.
[edit]I have edited this category so that it is now listed as a subcategory of Category:PC games, rather than Category:Video games by platform. I feel that home computers are a distinct sub-set of personal computers, as suggested by the hatnote on the Home computer article and also in its listing in Template:Computer sizes. The hatnote reads: The article Home computer "is primarily about a certain class of Personal computers from the late 1970s to mid-1980s. See home server and home automation or desktop computer for other uses of a computer in a home".
Hopefully this change will make it easier to decide where to put games for systems that are considered home computers but are also commonly known as PCs. Before the change, the system subcategory had to be placed in both this category and Category:Video games by platform, for example Category:FM Towns games appeared in both (while Category:Apple II games did not appear in any subsection of Category:PC games).
I recognize that there may be some confusion as to what is classed as a home computer, and therefore I have added an explanatory note at the start of the category (the content of the note is mainly based on the hatnote of the Home computer article, and the Catexp on the Category:PC games page). It is possible that other editors might disagree with the move, but I decided to be bold and make the change as there was no guarantee of editors replying to a post on the talk page. Hopefully if any discussion is needed, it can now happen here. Communal t (talk) 16:14, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
