Category talk:Cooperative video games
Category scope
[edit]I don't understand one thing. Is this category only for arcade games? If not, why not? In other words, why are computer games included here? can't they be covered by multi-player game categories? I suggest that we use this only for arcade games. Does that make sense? --Steve, Sm8900 13:18, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- RE: Category Scope
- Historically, Co-op can be defined as a (slightly tweaked) version of the singleplayer gamemode that can be played with several additional collaborating players. Multiplayer is a much broader term that can be applied to every single type of gameplay that involves two or more players, even if it divides the participants into opposing factions. Deathmatch, co-op, capture the flag, and so forth are all multiplayer gametypes that have little in common among themselves. The problem is that nothing is strictly defined, the borders are often blurred, and massive multiplayer online games add a great level of complexity to this whole discussion. Nevertheless, I strongly disagree with removing PC titles from the list. One good reason for this is that most PC games on that list actually use the term "Co-op Play" in their gameplay selection menus.
- Ok, I understand. thanks. --Steve, Sm8900 (talk) 18:36, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Sortable List
[edit]EDIT: The list has been moved to List of cooperative video games
Errors
[edit]I haven't checked the list extensively, but there are at least three games listed which do not support any form of cooperative gameplay:
Lylat Wars
Super Smash Bros.
Super Smash Bros. Melee
All of these games support modes that look like cooperative play, but your "partner" is AI controlled, not controlled by another player. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.94.148.46 (talk) 19:47, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Re: Errors
[edit]I took a quick look at these titles: both Wikipedia's and Gamespot's Game Details entries say the opposite. It was mentioned in a Super Smash Bros. Melee review that the AI would take over if there weren't enough human players to fill the whole team. I'll try to re-check this later on, as I get to those titles' entries in the table.
