Move of ScotRail to Scotrail (1997 to 2004)
User:RGloucester has moved ScotRail to ScotRail (1997-2004) and First ScotRail to ScotRail (2004-present) without discussion. In the first case, the proposed change had been discussion with no agreement to change. This should really have been discussed at here before the change. The first article covered the whole period from the creation of the ScotRail by BR, and it is now split. This first article now refers to history prior to privatisation, although is titled as though it covers the period after franchising only. --Stewart (talk | edits) 22:13, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
From Talk:ScotRail (1997-2004)
I moved to this page because this branding is defunct, and the current ScotRail service should take precedent. That service is no longer branded as "First ScotRail" but as just plain ScotRail. RGloucester (talk) 21:10, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- Disagree this article covers the whole history of the ScotRail name, from initial branding by British Rail. The article was perfected correct aswas - see discussion above. --Stewart (talk | edits) 22:06, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- This article does not talk about British Rail. It talks about the franchise operated by National Express (see infobox). ScotRail under British Rail is covered by Regional Railways. 188.74.96.196 (talk) 22:14, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- Most of section 1 (Fleet) refers to BR
- When ScotRail was created by BR, services were operated by a variety of diesel locomotives and coaching stock together with diesel and electric multiple units. Prior to the introduction of Class 158 DMUs by British Rail and later Class 170 DMUs by National Express, services were operated by slam-door stock such as the Class 101 DMUs.
- Section 2.1 is titled BR.
- Nearly half the article covers the BR days. This has been referred to WP:TIS and a rail-related admin for consideration --Stewart (talk | edits) 22:22, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- Even if that is so, it has always clearly stated in the infobox and the intro that it operated from 1997-2004. I did not add that. Hence, the title is correct. The fleet bits, as they are, should be modified. I assumed that those pieces in fleet were used because they represent what became the National Express franchise fleet... 188.74.96.196 (talk) 22:26, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- The two articles are now a total mess, NX referred to in the First article and vice versa. We should wait until RGloucester and the admin I have consulted come back on this one. In the meantime this discussion should be moved to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Transport in Scotland#Move of ScotRail to Scotrail (1997 to 2004) for a consensus. --Stewart (talk | edits) 22:35, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- Restored status quo ante regarding names; move protected for 1 week but I'll lift that should TIS so desire. --Redrose64 (talk) 22:46, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
Found part of the issue this evening, when I discovered that there was a redirect to ScotRail from ScotRail (National Express). There is now a dedicated article to the period of the NX franchise at the article. My belief is that ScotRail should cover the whole period of the brand, pointing out to the various franchisees: past (NX), present (First) and future (???). This is what the ScotRail article did, although is was a bit mixed up between NX and First franchises. This will allow future franchisees to have their own article, and the brand as now controlled by the Scottish Government, under the guise of Transport Scotland will show a continuous story through from Chris Green's creation in the 1980s. --Stewart (talk | edits) 16:55, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Dunfermline railway station
Is Dunfermline railway station an article or a disambiguation page? It seems to be stuck somewhere in between. I think that it should either be written up as an article (with refs as appropriate), or brought in line with MOS:DAB. I don't mind which. --Redrose64 (talk) 11:41, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
Stranraer railway station
An anon IP has been added Stranraer to the {{Scottish railway stations}}. Following previous discussion at Template talk:Scottish railway stations, I removed it and left edit comment, I have now left a link to "please discuss" on the talk page. Once again it has been reverted without explanation. I have this time reverted using Twinkle, identifying it as vandalism and left a message on the anon IP web page. Can someone please review this? --Stewart (talk | edits) 21:39, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
- Usage figures are around the 50,000 mark, compared to the others which are mostly above 1 million (Perth and Glasgow Prestwick Airport are each less than a million, but still manage over 750,000). Other stations of more than 1 million passengers are excluded (Falkirk High, Motherwell and Paisley Gilmour Street are just three I've pulled off the top of my head). Stranraer is not major. --Redrose64 (talk) 21:48, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
- It's the terminus for a fairly important route, owing to the ongoing Belfast ferry connection. I'd include it. Andy Dingley (talk) 16:43, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
- Not any more, the ferry now goes from Cairnryan. Stranraer is the nearest station to the ferry terminal, but it would probably be quicker just to get a bus from Ayr to Cairnryan. --Vclaw (talk) 20:52, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

Please help get transport-related structures ready for the start of the Wiki Loves Monuments competition on 1st September
In September the UK is taking part for the first time in the international photography competition Wiki Loves Monuments. Participants will be invited to submit pictures of listed buildings of significant importance (category A), as recorded by Historic Scotland. The main external website for competitors can be found here, and you can leave a message there if you have queries about competing. Do please join in, and let people in your local area know of this excellent way in which both existing and new Wiki users can help improve the encyclopaedia by contributing photographs of local listed structures. What about organizing a local Wikimeet to attract new people?
In preparation for the start of the competition on 1st September there is still quite a lot of work to do, and we would like to ask for the help of members of this wikiproject. Your local and expert knowledge will be invaluable in ensuring that the lists of eligible buildings are up to date and correctly formatted. If you look at Listed buildings in the United Kingdom you will see how many structures are included. If you then follow the link to Listed buildings in Scotland, you can get to the detailed lists for your area. Alternatively have a look at the WLM planning table. Can you help to ensure that the lists for your area are up to date and well presented?
Some of the lists have been semi-automatically generated from data provided by Historic Scotland. These use pre formatted templates (eg NS header) which will make it much easier for competition participants to upload their photographs to Commons as an automated process. Please don't change the template structure, as we need to ensure that the templates are properly compatible with the WLM standards that are in use worldwide. The format will allow a bot automatically to collect the information and to put it into the international Monuments Database.
The data still needs the attention of local editors:
- The "title" may need wikilinking to a suitable article name (whether we currently have that article or not). If there are several buildings in one street all of the wikilinks point at an article about the street; however each entry has a separate line in the list.
- The "location" column looks and sorts better if just the parish or town is included (& wikilinked).
- The "date completed" column sometimes has eg "C19" for 19th century, and "C1850" for c. 1850 when the date is uncertain - these need to be corrected manually.
- The "grid ref & lat & long" (which is occasionally missing) may be given to 8 characters — only 6 (grid ref) or 5 (lat & long) are really needed.
- Clicking on the "list entry number" should take you to the data sheet for that entry on the Historic Scotland database which can be checked if needed for details.
- The image column should have a picture added if we already have a suitable image on Commons. (N.B. if you are going to be taking photos yourself for inclusion in the competition don't upload them until September)
- References may be added according to normal WP practice.
For further information, please see Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2013 in the United Kingdom.
If you have any queries, please post them not below but on the Organizers' help page on Commons.
Anything you can do to help improve these lists will be much appreciated. The final deadline for cleaning up is 31st August.

Leaflet for Wikiproject Transport in Scotland at Wikimania 2014
Hi all,
My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.
One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.
This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:
• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film
• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.
• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.
• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____
• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost
The deadline for submissions is 1st July 2014
For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to:

Commons uploads of interest from National Library of Scotland
Hi all,
Just wanted to flag up the content that has recently been uploaded to commons as part of the National Library of Scotland's collaboration with Wikimedia UK. Three batches totalling about 250 images have been released. The photos include images of the construction of the Forth Bridge, the Tay Bridge disaster, and early 19th century sketches of locations around Scotland from John Claude Nattes and James Fittler's Scotia Depicta.
Hopefully some of this content will be of interest or of use to this project!

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!
Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Haymarket station
I had put a note on the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Edinburgh page about Haymarket railway station recently been moved to Haymarket (Edinburgh) station on the basis that a tram stop is now located outside the station. A comment had been put on the article talk page a few days before the move was made. There are other Haymarket Stations elsewhere in the world. I wondered if anyone else had thoughts on the naming of this article? Drchriswilliams (talk) 21:35, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

A new newsletter directory is out!
A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:25, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.
If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none
parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.
Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.
Thanks. — Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 09:39, 15 March, 2009 (UTC)
