Franz Xaver

Dear anthroponomists, please can we figure out which of the six different pages Franz Xaver, Francis Xavier, Xaver, Xavier, Xavier (name) and Javier (name) should be combined? For example, at the moment if you got to Franz Xaver you get a list of people with those forenames, but no explanation that they're all named after Francis Xavier. —Blotwell 02:53, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

I agree that this is an issue that this project needs to confront. Does anyone have any suggestions for how we should merge various name pages. Remember 19:48, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

OK, here goes:

Francis Xavier redirects to St. Francis Xavier, an article about the person, which is fine.

Xavier (name) and Javier (name) overlap. Merge and redirect as Xavier (name), because more of the content is about Xavier than Javier.

Cut the list of people named Xavier from Xavier, and paste into the merged article Xavier (name). Make Xavier a pure disambiguation page.

Merge and redirect Xaver to Franz Xaver for the reason stated in it.

An article I was working on, Fitzmorris, was just tagged for speedy deletion. I gave a response for keeping the surname article on its Talk page, but I'd appreciate other voices in support of keeping the article. Please make those comments on the Fitzmorris Talk page. Fitzname naming convention

Is there a policy statement on Fitzname article naming?

• I've created a few surname articles with the suffix lower case (for example, Fitzduncan, Fitzhugh, Fitzmaurice, Fitzmorris, Fitzstephen).
• I believe the better spelling would be with the suffix as a captial letter (for example, FitzGerald).
• Note, no space between prefix/suffix, and no hyphen (though we should include "Fitzname", "Fitz Name", "fitz Name", "Fitz-Name" people within the article proper).

"Use common names" is a principle that would apply here. As long as the great majority of people spell these names with the suffix in lower case, we should do likewise (even if doing so may not be strictly correct). -- Visviva (talk) 08:04, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Kaveh (given name)

It appears that "Kaveh" could be represented as a given name either as a subsection of Kaveh or as an article Kaveh (name). I did not want to create the article or add the section myself, but wanted to bring it to your attention as I ran across it. Additional article category added

I have created Category:Non-article Anthroponymy pages, which accommodates articles that have been talk-page tagged with {{WikiProject Anthroponymy | class = NA | importance = (any) }}. The typical content would be redirects, though I see that one wikiproject category page has been so tagged. Eighth 'top' importance article

When I took a look at Williams (surname), I found that it had not been banner-tagged nor assessed. I have assessed it as start-top, bringing the top count to 8 and the start-top count to 2. I wonder, though, whether William (name) and Williams (surname) should be merged and a list page prepared for biography link content .. or perhaps a category for biographies as the list could eventually be mightily long. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 16:59, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Ian

Could one of you take a look at Ian. It looks like a surname page that we might want to add/split off a dab page. Not sure. Someone just trimmed it significantly. . . (John User:Jwy talk) 06:42, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

The content removed by the IP-anon has been restored (not by me). "Ian" appears to be one of those rare short words that is used as a human name exclusively. I would suggest that precedent be bent in this case so that the creation of a disambiguation page is not done; i.e. let's leave the human names and fictional names together. If non-name uses of Ian or IAN emerge or are found, a dab page can be created thereafter and all the fictional Ians could be offloaded to that new page. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 11:10, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

DYK? candidate

Taylor and Taylor (surname) were listed as "Articles needing attention" on our project page; I did those edits 2/2/2008. That led me to Taylor (name) (now Taylor sept), an article about a Scottish clan branch and its namebearer, (namebearer split out into Donald Cameron ('Taillear Dubh na Tuaighe'). I didn't put the Anthroponymy template on Donald's Talk page, but I think it might belong as it shows the evolution of a nickname into a surname. Any comments? The Donald article is also a 2/3/2008 selfnom for "DYK?". Any feedback about that would also be appreciated. Thanks. Rosiestep (talk) 22:05, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Anyone interested in extracting out the name description info at Herzog (a necessary dab page) to an appropriate name article? Well, I did, and then CorenBot slapped me upside the edit window for stealing someone else's copy. Now I can't see the alleged source, due to corporate web-choking, but the ref is on my talk page. The outcome of the FAR and FARC were to downgrade the article from FAR to B-Class.
