Ternary numeral system, Quaternary numeral system, Quinary, Octal, Duodecimal, and possibly Vigesimal and Hexadecimal 5 should be removed from this list; there are many more important mathematics topics which could be added instead. - Media Access Control (MAC) addresses use hexadecimal, and it is also used to represent numbers stored in a CPU's registers and main memory, as well as for debugging computer programs. Microcontrollers use hexadecimal to easen data handling, too. HTML color codes ubiquitously also use it (already mentioned). - Obviously hexadecimal (and all of the rest of these) are a topics worth having some wikipedia article about. Hexadecimal encoding in particular is often used by computers as a more visually compact representation for binary numbers (or more generally, arbitrary data). It's just not a "vital" part of mathematics worth being in a list of the most important articles on Wikipedia. –jacobolus (t) 05:08, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- The system that transposes the visible spectrum into a numerical code is very vital regardless of whether it is vital from a math perspective.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 06:58, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hexadecimal-based encoding for 8 bit/channel RGB colors are a specific (mediocre) way of encoding a computer's internal representation of certain colors to be displayed on a technologically limited RGB display. They are not a "system that transposes the visible spectrum into a numerical code". This is of course worth describing, at RGB color model § Numeric representations. It's not really evidence that hexadecimal – as a number system – is of "vital" importance to anything. –jacobolus (t) 04:01, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
- I don't think it's that mediocre, if it was, other systems would be more universally used (these are intelligent programmers that developed and applied them). In fact, a larger system then would be too small [ "data-wise" ] to be used to represent different colors, so hexadecimal is right in between a compact form to represent bytes, and one that is still large enough (also, for character length and memory storage thereof, that is also easy to check); which is why it is preferred. Higher art that requires more detailed distinguishing color schemes might benefit from a larger base, however for everyday life, hexadecimal is very much sufficient. Hexadecimal as a level 5 Vital article is appropriate in terms of its applications in other areas as would be, say, the state of California to the Geography of the United States (level 4 Vital), but also to Economy of the U.S., and the World, especially in terms of innovative exports to other places that gain from Californian products and innovations. Radlrb (talk) 16:00, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
- In other words, Applied mathematics being a domain of Mathematics, these uses for hexadecimal [ including all collectively mentioned previously Radlrb (talk) 16:48, 9 January 2024 (UTC) ] therefore fall under mathematical applications for this specific number base. Radlrb (talk) 16:05, 9 January 2024 (UTC)

- Support removal but not swap. Given that Rhineura floridana is restricted mostly to Florida whereas members of Amphisbaenidae are spread out among Africa, South America, and the Caribbean, I'm not sure why we would only feature the Florida worm over Amphisbaenidae or an example species from Amphisbaenidae. I am going to nominate all of his proposals, will not give rationales at every single entry but please for research of these terms, productive feedbacks and substantive discussions (no dispurtive !votes like "no rationale given etc.", "we are under quota" etc. but many comments in discussions and substantive discussions)

Remove: Low Vitality Topics In Chemistry
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
There are approximately 1 bazillion chemical substances, most of which are rarely encountered and unimportant outside of a handful of niche applications. Worse still, many of these substances are chemically distinct but effectively interchangeable (e.g. sodium and potassium salts tend to be equally soluble and usually behave the same in solution). The following stand out to me as being worth removing:
Remove Tetraoxygen
An utterly insignificant allotrope of oxygen – it took nearly a century to confirm that it even exists (and it only does so for a few microseconds). Briefly mentioned in Oxygen 3, which is more than sufficient.

I think something Ediacaran related should be added, probably Ediacaran biota. I know Ediacaran is already on here but I think something else should be added because it's the period that contains the first known animals on Earth, which imo is pretty important for understanding the history of life, and the Ediacaran article I think doesn't go into the topic well enough on its own.
