The goal of this page is to provide a complete list of all significant roller coasters covered by the Roller Coaster Database (RCDB), listed by their ID number as it appears on the external website. This number is found in the URL of each coaster's RCDB page.

For example, Kingda Ka's RCDB page is www.rcdb.com/2832.htm, so its RCDB ID is 2832.

Each entry should be a link to the full title of the article for that coaster (e.g. [[Gemini (roller coaster)]]), even if the article name it points to doesn't yet exist or isn't properly titled.
Every entry should also meet at least one of following two requirements:

  1. The coaster is notable enough to have its own article, satisfying the general notability guideline as defined at WP:Notability.
  2. The coaster fails the notability guideline but has received coverage in reliable sources (other than RCDB). It is a significant aspect of an amusement park and appears in the park's Wikipedia article with at least one non-RCDB reference (two or more sources preferred).

If an entry fails both, then it should not be added to the list. Only being listed in a chart at an amusement park article may not be enough to justify its inclusion here. If this becomes a question or an entry is challenged by another editor, consider expanding the target article first with more details (backed by sources). This will help justify adding it to the list. For help determining the proper title of a page, see the WikiProject's Article Naming Standards.

Redirects

Entries that fail the notability guideline requirements listed at WP:GNG won't have an article created, but if they have received coverage in reliable sources and are added to an amusement park article, then a redirect for the coaster name should be created. See WP:Redirect for more information on how to do this. On the redirect page that's created, add a category for the year a coaster opened (and/or closed) if known. Click the following examples to see how this is done:

This redirect points to an article section that lightly covers the roller coaster. It fails #1 above but satisfies #2, so a redirect exists. The opening and closing years are categorized on the redirect page. If you navigate to the category Category:Roller coasters introduced in 1987, you'll see the coaster's name listed in italics. This means it's a redirect and doesn't have a standalone article.
This redirect points to an article, which is titled with the updated name of the coaster. When a coaster is renamed and/or relocated, a redirect that represents the old name/location should exist. This allows for proper categorization of the old name, including categories like the opening year. The redirect in this example places Flashback in italics at Category:Roller coasters introduced in 1989.

How to add coasters to the list

  1. Start by going to the URL of the next item in the list. The URL format you should type in your browser is http://www.rcdb.com/(number).htm where (number) is the RCDB ID of a coaster.
    • For example, if the last item on the list is 3243, you would go to http://www.rcdb.com/3244.htm to look up and investigate the next coaster.
  2. Determine if the roller coaster found in the RCDB link meets one of the requirements described in the introduction above. If it does, then it should have an article or redirect, and you should continue to the next step. If it doesn't, then stop here and do not add to the list below; if it's already in the list, remove it.
  3. In another browser tab or window, go to RCDB.com and search for the name of the coaster you were directed to in step 1. Do not neglect this step, it is very important to determine the correct title!.
    • If executing the search on RCDB takes you directly to the coaster page discovered in step 1, then there is only one known coaster by that name. The correct title of the article would be "Coaster Name" or "Coaster Name (roller coaster)" – which one depends on whether the name is unique or ambiguous. See WP:WikiProject Amusement Parks/Standards#Article Naming for more details.
    • If the search shows you a results page listing multiple coasters with the same name, the proper article title will be in the format "Coaster name (Park name)".
      • IMPORTANT: if the roller coasters listed in the search results are identical installations of the same coaster design at different parks (such as Batman: The Ride), then the title should be "Coaster Name" or "Coaster Name (roller coaster)" as above. As the article is created and expanded, it should be written to cover all identical installations of that coaster design at each park. There should NOT be a separate article for each installation in most cases, since the amount of coverage in reliable sources will be more limited (some exceptions could apply).
  4. Once you determine the proper title, add it to the list. DO NOT use a piped link! You should be linking to the full title of that coaster's article or redirect, even if the redirect itself takes readers to a different page with a different title. See the section above for help with redirects.

Note: This is not an arbitrary list of roller coasters assigned a random number. The number of each roller coaster entry references its placement at RCDB, so some numbers will be skipped if they fail the guidelines above. Please read them before updating this list.
