Additional dissertation on Dollfuss
I would like to get a copy of the following dissertation on Engelbert Dollfuss for the Spanish Wikipedia article on him I am currently expanding:
Thank you in advance!--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 10:14, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Rowanwindwhistler, this 1958 dissertation has not been digitized, so you'll likely need to either order a print copy or visit Georgetown or Brigham Young. Marking this thread as Stuck unless someone can do some magic czar 03:05, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hmmm, pity. I will try the first option and see what the cost may be. Thank you for trying to locate it anyhow.--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 05:59, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Rowanwindwhistler, I haven't done this myself, but I remember hearing somewhere that when an older dissertation is ordered, the printing company digitizes the dissertation at the same time and puts it online (which is to say that it isn't cost-effective to digitize an older dissertation unless someone pays for it)—not sure, though czar 00:13, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

- Last time I asked the Spanish National Library for one they brought a paper copy all the way from some US university to Spain but it is rather cumbersome. You have to pay for the shipping and then you cannot borrow it, you have read it in the library premises, which happens to be rather far away from home. We will see, I may decide to forget about this one and limit myself to the sources I have at hand. Thank you all the same for looking it up.--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 09:56, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Kent James/Nick Name
The new article Kent James is currently in a poorly referenced state and makes no strong claim of notability under either WP:NMUSIC or WP:NACTOR — so technically it's AFDable. However, there is a potential alternative to deletion here: the subject was formerly known by the pseudonym "Nick Name", under which he fronted a band called "Nick Name and the Normals" who had an independent documentary film made about them in 2004. The problem, however, is that because the band broke up over a decade ago, I'm not finding strong sourcing on Google to determine whether converting this into an article about either the band or the film is a viable alternative or not — and in terms of more specialized login databases, I only have access to ProQuest's Canadian media databases (but not to any of its American ones), newspapers.com and EBSCOhost. None of which assisted at all, so shifting the article's focus doesn't look promising at this point, but I still wanted to ask if somebody could run a check on Nick Name and the Normals in other databases (Highbeam? Other ProQuest databases that I don't have access to?) before I officially list this for AFD. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 19:46, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

- @LouisAragon: Amazon's "Look inside" feature includes the 22 page index. The bulk of the book is 169 pages of lists of governors by province. "Surprise Me!" shows 80-90% of the M to Z portion of those lists. Signing in to an amazon.com account may show more. If you need scans of four or five other specific pages, I can supply them. Otherwise you'll probably need to borrow or buy the book. Worldbruce (talk) 05:10, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

Or, do you perhaps have free access to the pages that I can't get for free (see the above link provided by Worldbruce)? Just wondering. @Worldbruce:, thanks a lot once again man. I might need a few more pages later on, but I'll leave you message whenever, as you proposed. If that's still ok with you, of course. For now, the pages I can get myself through the way you link are more than to write a lot of content already. Bests - LouisAragon (talk) 22:53, 11 June 2016 (UTC)
- @LouisAragon: mostly the Amazon book look inside contains front cover, copyright, table of contents, first pages, index and back cover only. We both never will read more than the other. But if you need some pages as copy from this book, I can get them for you otherwise. Doc Taxon (talk)

Your Computer (homecomputer magazine 80s)
Hi, I need to check a review published in the UK computer magazine Your Computer from november 1983 for the Spectravideo SV-318 homecomputer article in German Wikipedia. All other issues of that magazine are available online at archive.org but not this particular issue :o( Unfortunately I don't have page numbers. Any help where to find the mag online or a copy of the review would be highly appreciated. --Knurrikowski (talk) 08:44, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
- Hi @Knurrikowski: No real solutions for UK computer magazine Your Computer from November 1983 Volume 3 Number 11 but a few ideas:
- First, I'm inferring volume/number from this image of the cover from the UK centre for computing history; you could check if they have a research service available to get scans.
- Alas, I double-checked the archive.org listings for Your Computer and agree this issue is missing; you could email Jason Scott (archive.org staffer who has a personal interest in microcomputer history) to see if they do have a copy waiting to be scanned.
- It appears that ISSN is 0263-0885 and using the OCLC number, 465364609, you can see a list of libraries that have *some* holdings of this magazine.
- The British Library runs an on-demand service and that would be a pretty sure way to get a copy.
- Ulrich's claims that there are two abstracting & indexing services: Construction Research and Innovation (Active) (Print) and Guidelines (Ceased) (Print). That sounds suspicious to me and these are both in print, so I think getting the page number without a copy in front of you or an author's name is going to be difficult.
- I'd suggest posting at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games and possibly reaching out to folks at the World of Spectrum site.
- Good luck & I hope you get ahold of it! Jodi.a.schneider (talk) 16:26, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

Modern source for the population of Londinium
I am looking for "Londinium and Beyond: Essays on Roman London and Its Hinterland", John Clark (ed), 2008, the chapter titled "The Population of Roman London" by Williams, T; Swain, H., to get current expert estimates for the population of Londinium. I've tried searching for the chapter itself (since the book is mostly a collection of conference papers) but without luck. --Tiptoethrutheminefield (talk) 17:18, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
- @Tiptoethrutheminefield: No real answers, but some directions:
- People can check nearby library holdings in WorldCat; this looks like a special research report of the Council for British Archaeology so I'm not surprised you can't find the chapter itself; UCL has the abstract only (no full-text) publicly available in its repository. First author Tim Williams might be willing to give a copy by email, or the population quote you are looking for; and we find the full citation formatted thus: Williams, T., Swain, H. (2008). The population of Roman London. In Clark, J., Cotton, J., Hall, J., Sherris, R., Swain, H. (Eds.), Londinium and beyond. Essays on Roman London and its hinterland for Harvey Sheldon. (pp. 33-40). York: Council for British Archaeology.
- At King's College London, there is a module (=AmE course) on Roman London; likely you know the rest of the (older) bibliography there. But perhaps the instructor would be willing to give the figure you need...

- @Tiptoethrutheminefield: Are you still looking for this chapter? Doc Taxon (talk) 07:54, 27 May 2016 (UTC)
- @Doc Taxon: Yes I am, or at least the article is, since Londinium still does not have data on the current accepted estimates for the population. There is an editor on the Londinium article, Dr.K, who insists on using the older and now invalid population estimates you still find reproduced in general non-academic sources, so a modern specialist source is needed. I don't currently have a working Wikipedia-linked email account (have lost its password). Tiptoethrutheminefield (talk) 15:16, 28 May 2016 (UTC)

Syrett's "The Royal Navy in European Waters During the American Revolutionary War"
Does anyone have access to a copy of David Syrett's "The Royal Navy in European Waters During the American Revolutionary War"? Specifically I'm in need to discover what the "G" reference means.
- @Dustuiop: Reference G is specified in the Notes (which I found searching in the Amazon preview for note G). G refers to Sir John Fortescue, ed., The Correspondence of King George the Third from 1760 to December 1783 (London, 1972).
- If you still need the book itself, the OCLC number can help people look it up in WorldCat: OCLC 38024028.

On Being Hawaiian
I need helping finding citation information for "On Being Hawaiian", a book/essay which was printed four different time. These are my attempts at listing the ones I could find online either on worldcat.org or elsewhere. What was the third edition? And was the 1964 print shorter than the other prints because it was called an essay (although it is understandable that there could be a long essay); I don't trust the worldcat.org information since they even got the publisher wrong (it was the Honolulu Star-Bulletin not Topgallant who published the first edition)?
- Holt, John Dominis (1964). On Being Hawaiian (1st ed.). Honolulu: Honolulu Star-Bulletin. OCLC 222391884.

- There was apparently a 1976 print that seems to be basically the second edition, but two years later. See WorldCat entry. Perhaps there was a small third print and this is it? I'm finding no other records anywhere of anything between the 2nd and 4th prints. ~ Rob13Talk 18:32, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

My university has some through JSTOR, but not many; lots of them are in the more obscure JSTOR databases that most universities won't have. My university has most of these in book form, though. I'm sending three your way now. Two will be scanned out of storage in a couple days. I'll scan five myself at the library on Monday. The only one I can't currently access is the second bullet point, so if anyone wants to grab that one, feel free. If it's not done in ~2 weeks, ping me. ToC for A Study of Cahamana Inscriptions of Rajasthan
Does anyone have access to the table of contents of this book?
- Anita Sudan (1989). A study of the Cahamana inscriptions of Rajasthan. Research. OCLC 20754525.
I've been trying to get hold of this book to improve Chahamanas of Shakambhari, but it is out-of-stock on online shopping sites such as Amazon and Flipkart. If I can see the table of contents (the list of inscriptions), I can at least look for the descriptions of these inscriptions in alternative sources. utcursch | talk 04:18, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Utcursch: If someone could get hold of the ToC, would it help if you could then request pages based on the table of contents? I can request this book out of storage, but whether you want additional scans after the ToC will affect how I request access to this book (either via scans or a copy of the book itself). ~ Rob13Talk 05:25, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
- @BU Rob13: Thanks for responding. At this point, I don't really know which page in the book contains what. So, yes, it'd help if I am able to request some additional pages based on the table of contents.
- What I need is a list of inscriptions issued by the Chahamana kings, including find-spot, the reigning king, and the year of issue (e.g. "Anvalda pillar inscription of Someśvara V. @. 1234"). Once I have this list, I can find more details about those inscriptions from other sources that I've access to (unfortunately, those sources do not contain a systematic list of all the available inscriptions).
- Google Book snippets suggest that such lists of inscriptions are available on pages 252-253 and 312-? (Bibliography section) of the book. utcursch | talk 14:39, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

The Ibis
Can anyone source for me the additional detail I need to make this citation transparent:
- "Unknown Title". The Ibis. British Ornithologists' Union: 422. 1887.
That is, the source is a journal and I believe the cite is to a collection of articles, so I would hope someone could look at page 422 (I am using a detail I can see in Google snippet view from it), and then tell me name of the article it comes from, all author names, and the date, volume and issue no. of The Ibis it originally appeared in.
- @Fuhghettaboutit: p. 422 is from: Wray, Richard B. (October 1887). "On the Structure of the Barbs, Barbules, and Barbicels of a Typical Pennaceous Feather". The Ibis. 29 (4): 420–423. Wiley has it but a free version of the journal is held on the Internet Archive. The volumes are bundled together in groups of six, so that explains why IA has it as Fifth Series Number XX --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 01:19, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
- @MrLinkinPark333: Thank you! Much better to have the cite's link provide full access to the source, and I may use that source in other ways in this monumental project I've taken on. Thanks again--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 13:43, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
Verification of alleged fake star name in celestial atlas
Title: "Atlas coeli Skalnaté Pleso II.: Katalog 1950.0"
Author: Antonín Bečvář
Publishing: Přírodovědecké Vydavatelstrí
Year: 1951
Page: 286
A rather common vandalism act consists in adding fake names to star articles in the Wikipedia (more information here). I have found a probable fake name for Delta Aquilae, "Denebokab" or "Deneb Okab", about which there is no reliable source prior to its addition in the mentioned Wikipedia article. Most probably, if not vandalism, the alleged fake name is due to a confusion with Epsilon Aquilae and Zeta Aquilae which are both named similarly ("Deneb el Okab", having reliable sources both).
However, upon my "citation needed" request, a user has recently added a citation, in theory reliable, but very difficult to verify. Therefore I ask for collaboration to check this name. I am almost sure the name such name is not in any book (also because such a name is nonsense: "deneb okab" means "tail of the eagle", an this star is not the tail but the chest of the eagle).
Here is an English version of the same book, although it is not the edition added as source in the article. --Eynar Oxartum (talk) 16:42, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Eynar: The book is available on GBooks. If you can't access it, I can send a PDF of the page. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 02:02, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Eynar and Lithopsian: The Google Books snippet view doesn't help because the book hasn't been indexed for searching (perhaps because it's almost entirely tables of numbers). The cited page number is also incorrect. The citing editor may have mistakenly entered the number of pages the book has (286 is the last numbered page), rather than the page number that supports the statement.

- It doesn't have a doi. Cosmetics & Toiletries is a trade journal. Full text isn't available online for it as far back as 1986, so you'd be looking for a library with a paper copy, ISSN 0361-4387. --Worldbruce (talk) 22:30, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

San Rafael Daily Independent Journal from 1964
San Rafael Daily Independent Journal, Sept. 18, 1964. Article is titled, "The House's Theme is Vertical", I don't have a page number. The issue I need is behind a paywall at this url: https://newspaperarchive.com/us/california/san-rafael/san-rafael-daily-independent-journal/1964/09-18/
Need this to try to evaluate the notability of a person who is the subject of a draft article: Draft:Violeta Autumn. Much thanks! KDS4444 (talk) 01:36, 10 February 2017 (UTC)
- I believe John M Baker has access there? ~ Rob13Talk 01:54, 10 February 2017 (UTC)
- KDS4444, it's page 64. I don't have access, but the OCR text (freely available) at the bottom of the page includes Autumn. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 02:36, 10 February 2017 (UTC)
- BlackcurrantTea: Thanks a load for your efforts! Hm... It seems I am able to navigate to the section of pages that should have 64, but the count goes from 63 to 65! WTF?? But never mind that, I can see from your link above that it does exist and that in theory someone can view it. I tried to read page 64 by clicking on it. It opens up in a slightly larger (but still illegible) version at the top of the page and I am told to "Click to view larger image" which requires me to "activate my membership" (with a credit card). I am not seeing any other way around this: they clearly want someone with an account to login before they will show me any page. Thoughts?? KDS4444 (talk) 03:20, 10 February 2017 (UTC)
- KDS4444, how odd. Try this Google cache: [6]. I got to it by searching for "san rafael"+house+"theme is vertical". BlackcurrantTea (talk) 03:38, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

Can you get it as a PDF or something similar that can be read? Please let me know. Thanks! KDS4444 (talk) 03:41, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

Katie talk show 5/30/2013
In one of the articles here on Wikipedia about a living person, Jacob Barnett, there is in the article and in the latest Afd for the same article listed a link for a Katie Couric talk show where she interviews the aforementioned person. In the article (as of today December 4th 2016) the link provided is this: katiecouric.com/ whereas the link in the Afd is given as this: katiecouric.com/2013/05/30/living-with-autism/
The latter link would suggest an air-date of May 30th 2013, and this seems to be confirmed by a listing of the show on www.tv.com: Katie Couric chats with 14-year-old genius The title of this specific show/segment could be: "The 14-Year-Old Living with Autism Who Could Win a Nobel Prize".
I have not been able to locate this show neither by following the links nor by searching the Katie Couric website or YouTube or Google for that matter.
Anyone capable of locating this specific show? --Oleryhlolsson (talk) 13:01, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

Sudan's Painful Road To Peace
Hi. I'm working on a destub for Josephine Apieu Jenaro Aken and I would like to know if she appears in:
- Arop Madut Arop (2006) Sudan's Painful Road To Peace: Founding and Development of SPLM/SPLA, ISBN 1-4196-1153-4.
I currently don't have access to a copy. If she is mentioned, could I request a scan of the pages that mention her? Thanks! --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 04:59, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
- It looks like she probably is not mentioned. It's searchable, to some degree, at Amazon, and a search for "Aken" (and each of her other names) produces nothing. In addition, the book's index is accessible via Amazon search, and she is not listed in the index. John M Baker (talk) 19:42, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
- I had a suspicion. I assume the same goes for her husband Dominic Dim Deng? --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 20:20, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

A brief notice in Engineering of 1932
For Reed water tube boiler, I would be very grateful for a copy of a brief notice in Engineering of the death of Joseph William Reed, the boiler's creator. It's available on Google Books, which reports the volume as being number 133 of 1932 and the page as 374, but I'm only seeing snippet view, so it might start on p. 373 or extend to p. 375. I would also be grateful for a copy of the volume's title page, or confirmation of the volume number and year. TIA. Nortonius (talk) 14:34, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Nortonius: Via search only on the Hathi Trust, I can confirm the snippet is only on p374, and is found in v133 of 1932 (published in the first half of the year, Jan-Jun). I don't have access beyond the Google Books snippet, though. ~ Rob13Talk 16:29, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
- That's a great help BU Rob13, thank you very much! I'll hold on in case anyone can get me a full copy though – GB won't let me see the whole thing, and for now what I can see is rather tantalising! Cheers. Nortonius (talk) 16:37, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

Battle of the boilers
For Reed water tube boiler, or indeed any related topic, I'd be very grateful for a full copy of "Battle of the boilers". It appeared in Journal of the American Society of Naval Engineers, volume 67, issue 1,[9] but according to that source it was reprinted there from The Engineer, where it first appeared on 16 & 23 July 1954, presumably in two parts. A copy from either source would be more than fine. TIA. Nortonius (talk) 13:39, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
- Another I haven't actually seen (incredibly slow connection, arrgh): Try 16 July and 23 July. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 00:12, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
- That's it, perfect! Thanks so much – again! Sorry you have such a slow connection, which makes it even kinder of you to bother... It looks like I must learn how to search Grace's properly: searches I've made have been frustratingly arduous so I've been put off. Maybe there's something I've missed. Thanks again. - @Zigzig20s: If your email address in preferences is provided by Yahoo, or "enable email from other users" is not checked, then try changing them and send again. Or you can create a one-time email address and ping me with it. --Worldbruce (talk) 14:34, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
- No, it's not a Yahoo address and I have enabled e-mails from other users.Zigzig20s (talk) 16:04, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Zigzig20s: I don't know what else to suggest. That's the only problem I've encountered in the past when communicating with requesters, but I'm not receiving email from you, and you're evidently not receiving email from me. --Worldbruce (talk) 16:56, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

Engineering again ...
For Error: {{HMS}} invalid control parameter: 0 (help), I'd be grateful as ever for sight of "Oil-Fuel Trials on H.M.S. Spiteful", in Engineering, volume 78, July–December 1904, p. 341, as listed in the index here: it's possible that this item continues on the next page. This journal seems particularly hard to track down online, anyone got any magic tricks? TIA. Nortonius (talk) 15:47, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Nortonius: It's very difficult to conduct a meaningful search without more detailed information about the journal, since the title is so generic. Do you have any other information about it at all? An editor name, publisher, place of publication? ~ Rob13Talk 19:34, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Nortonius: Actually, nevermind. I have a copy, please send an email to receive it. For future searches of this source, please provide the following information to aid the volunteer who fills the request. Place of publication: London. Publisher: Office for Advertisements and Publication. Date: 1866– . For dates up to 1922, also note that the Hathi Trust has full copies. ~ Rob13Talk 19:50, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
- Ah well done for getting those publication details! As you say, without them searching for "engineering" is virtually pointless...! All duly noted, I'll send an email right now. Cheers. Nortonius (talk) 19:54, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
- And received, huge thanks BU Rob13! Nortonius (talk) 00:06, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
Kepelino
I need the complete Foreword by Noelani Arista, Notes on the Text and Introduction sections and maybe the first chapter of this 2007 edition of this book. Beginning from page i (not 1) to page 10. Older edition do not have the detailed biographic forewords.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 00:31, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

--KAVEBEAR (talk) 00:31, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
- @KAVEBEAR: I have access, but do you know how many pages the sections before the first chapter will be? This is relevant to how I'm able to access the text. ~ Rob13Talk 01:45, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
- @BU Rob13: This http://catdir.loc.gov/catdir/toc/ecip0724/2007031494.html says page 8. So I need everything up to page 8. Thanks.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 03:22, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
- @KAVEBEAR: Sorry, not sure I was clear. I've got the start/end page numbers, it's just unclear how many pages are in between due to the Roman numeral page numbering. Do you happen to know? I would typically request that the library scan the pages for me and just send me the copy, given the facility this book is held in, but there is a limit to how much they're willing to scan. If the foreward and notes are long enough, I may have to instead request that they transfer the book to a facility I can access. Do you have a ballpark estimate of the total number of pages that would be covered by requesting i to 8? ~ Rob13Talk 04:25, 14 February 2017 (UTC)
- @BU Rob13: From what I can tell the Roman numerals end at xv. So it should be around fifteen pages for the foreword plus eight pages for a total of 23 pages. If that is too much the range can be shorten to iv to 8, since the Roman numerals before are table of content pages that I don't necessarily need. Thanks..--KAVEBEAR (talk) 04:49, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

The Memorial of Saint Helena
This should not require any scanning or borrowing of books but I am trying to track down the pages surrounding this image. The source claims it is in the first Italian edition of The Memorial of Saint Helena, Volume 1, 1842, by Emmanuel, Count de Las Cases (1766-1842) with drawings by Nicolas-Toussaint Charles. Problem is I've look through a lot of these vol 1 on archive.org and can't seem to find the image. Is there any online scans of the edition in question? --KAVEBEAR (talk) 04:55, 22 February 2017 (UTC)
- A google scan of the page is here. I hope this is useful. - Aa77zz (talk) 13:41, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

A few disserations
- "The Education of Randolph Bourne: The Political Genealogy of an American Intellectual" (specifically volume two, if separated) by Leslie Jane Vaughan, UC Berkeley, 1989
- "The anarchist movement in the nineteenth century : a social psychological study", Johns, 1946
- "An analysis of the adoption of propaganda by the deed by the nineteenth century anarchist movement", Sturges, 1976
Should be in PQ but let me know if not czar 03:43, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Czar: The citations are in ProQuest, but not the full text. I can request from interlibrary loan if you want. ~ Rob13Talk 05:14, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
- @BU Rob13, ah, really? Just to confirm—all three haven't been digitized? If so, I'm using more than a few pages so I'll put it on the back burner czar 05:20, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Czar: First one is digitized but requires a purchase to access, even with my institutional access ($38 for dissertations delivered by PDF). Second one isn't digitized/available for purchase at all through ProQuest, but a citation is there. Third one doesn't even have the citation in ProQuest. I can probably still access them all, and then I could scan portions of them for you. It would just take a bit for ILL to work out. ~ Rob13Talk 05:28, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
- @BU Rob13, bummer. Okay, best to hold off for now czar 05:35, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
