[edit]02:00:09, 30 July 2020 review of submission by Ronster007
[edit]- Ronster007 (talk · contribs)
Hi I have been working on writing an article called Ron Shlien but it keeps getting deleted. I reduced the page content to the bare minimum but it still got deleted within 10 minutes. The content seems to be neutral and well sourced. One reviewer suggested that I try again while another warned me that if I try again I will get the page blocked. I like Wikipedia but I feel like it is an uphill battle. Please help Ronster007 Ronster007 (talk) 02:00, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
Ronster007, the articles you write are considered promotional and will be speedy deleted under WP:G11. Please read WP:PROMO. Eternal Shadow Talk 02:58, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Ronster007: some advice from me for an eventual next attempt:
- First, review our guideline on notability, our policy on Verifiability, and our general notability guideline (GNG). Consider whether your subject clearly meets the standards listed there. Also, check if the topic is already covered, perhaps under a different spelling or in a section of an article about a wider topic. You will waste a lot of time, if you create a new article, and then find that the encyclopedia already has an article about that.
- Second, read how to create Your First Article and referencing for beginners and again consider if you want to go ahead.
- Third, If you have any connection or affiliation with the subject, disclose it in accordance with our guideline on Conflict of interest. If you have been or expect to be paid for making edits, or are making them as part of your job, disclose this according to the strict rules of the Paid-contribution disclosure. This is absolutely required; omitting it can result in you being blocked from further editing.
- Fourth, gather sources. You want independent, professionally published, reliable sources with each discussing the subject in some detail. If you can't find several such sources, stop; an article will not be created! Sources do NOT need to be online, or in English, although it is helpful if at least some are. The "independent" part is vital. Wikipedia does not consider as independent sources such as press releases, or news stories based on press releases, or anything published by the subject itself or an affiliate of the subject. Strictly local coverage is also not preferred. Regional or national newspapers or magazines, books published by mainstream publishers (not self-published), or scholarly journals are usually good. So are online equivalents of these. (Additional sources may verify particular statements but not discuss the subject in detail. But those significant detailed sources are needed first.)
- Fifth, use the article wizard to create a draft under the articles for creation project. This is always a good idea for an inexperienced editor, but in the case of an editor with a conflict of interest it is essential.
- Sixth, use the sources gathered before (and other sources you may find along the way) to write the article. Cite all significant statements to sources. Do not express opinions or judgements, unless they are explicitly attributed to named people or entities, preferably in a direct quotation, and cited to a source. Do not use puffery or marketing-speak. Provide page numbers, dates, authors and titles for sources to the extent these are available. A title is always needed. Submit the draft when you think it is ready for review. Be prepared to wait a while for a review (several weeks or more).
- Seventh, when (well perhaps if) your draft is declined, pay attention to the comments of the reviewer, and correct the draft and resubmit it. During this whole process, if you face any unresolvable editing hurdles, or cannot comprehend any editing issue, feel free to post a request at the Teahouse or the help desk and ask the regulars. Repeat this until the draft passes review.
Congratulations, you have now created a valid Wikipedia article. Victor Schmidt mobil (talk) 05:48, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

223.225.253.4 (talk) 04:27, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
- Hello 223.225.253.4. I see a bunch of problems in your draft:
- it was Copied and pasted from a website. Please never copy stuff onto Wikipedia. Even if we could resolve the copyright stuff, texts written for other websites are nearly never written in an acceptable way.
- It uses highely promotional language, but Wikipedia doesnt want to be used to promote or "spread the word" about somebody. Wikipedia articles should maintain a neutral point of view.
- It has not a single source saying where the information comes from. Wikipedia is mainly interested in what other people have written in reliable independent sources with some coverage.
- This submission appears to be an autobiography. Please note that autobiographys are strongely discouraged.
- It currently uses the first person singular to describe the person. Wkipedia articles should be kept third-person only.
- Because of these problems, this draft has been rejected, which means that the reviewers arent intending on reviewing it again. Because of the copyright stuff, I had to tag it for speedy deletion. Please read WP:YFA before starting a new attempt. Victor Schmidt mobil (talk) 05:46, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Hello,
Could you please tell me why isn't the person I am writing about considered notable and what do I need to provide to prove they are?
Thank you, Andrija

Matt (talk) 14:35, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
I developed this article in my sandbox and decided to publish it, even though I'm in the midst of adding documentation and links to support the document. When I went through the process to publish, I accidentally left one choice as to HOW to publish wrong -- so that apparently the article published to "User:James_Hiliary_Higdon" instead of just "James_Hilliary_Higdon".
I realized my error when I saw the name for the page. I then tried to reverse or revert that publication, but I could not find how to do so. So I then published it to the correct name by getting rid of the selection "User" and made it "Article". That then created the re-direction problem. I tried but could not find any way to unwind this -- so I published with the shortened name "James_H_Higdon". That worked, but this morning I find it's been removed.
How can I get it published, as it is now?
- @Matthewobrien: You don't. This draft currently has exactly zero reliable sources and therefore fails Wikipedia's Verifyability-Policy (amongst WP:NPERSON). It therefore cannot be published in the current state. As for the redirect/duplication mess:
- Draft:James H. Higdon Sr. stays where it is, reason explained above.
- User:Matthewobrien/sandbox has been blanked by me and is waiting for the next project. You can read Help:Your first article for guidance.
- User:James Hilary Higdon Sr. is a duplicate of Draft:James H. Higdon Sr. and will soon be removed as such. Please work on the draft.
- James Hilary Higdon Sr., a redirect going to User:James Hilary Higdon Sr. will be removed along with User:James Hilary Higdon Sr..
- You should focus your work onto Draft:James H. Higdon Sr. to bring it to an acceptable state. Happy Editing! Victor Schmidt mobil (talk) 14:53, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
15:30:19, 30 July 2020 review of draft by Gohlanblack

I am requesting help because I'm trying to publish an article without many external sources. Since the Great Lakes Cosmology Workshop is a cosmology conference, this isn't something that's going to be in major news sources. There are several links to university articles that discuss it, which are reliable sources. This Wikipedia page was made by an attendee (William Black) and one of the founders (Gus Evrard). Since it's a semi-regular conference that's been attended by hundreds—and will be attended by hundreds in the future—it's an article worth hosting on Wikipedia.
Gohlanblack (talk) 15:30, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
- Gohlanblack In order to demonstrate notability, you need to provide multiple references to in-depth articles written about The Great Lakes Cosmology Workshop in unrelated, independent journals, magazines, books or online. If there are no sources then we can’t have an article about them. Theroadislong (talk) 15:41, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Hello, I recreated the draft and wrote the draft with references relevant to the article. Gary Davis also has another Wikipedia page in which he is listed as the director for film Zen (2007 film). That Wikipedia page was approved and he is the director of the film.

- Preciousmommy, I don’t see notability or sourcing in this draft. It’s poorly written as well. Please fix this. Eternal Shadow Talk 19:35, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

- User:Fady Nabil Ibrahim - What is the question? Are you asking why the draft was declined, why the draft was rejected, or why the draft has been nominated for deletion? The draft does not make a credible claim of significance. Robert McClenon (talk) 20:27, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
