Portal:Civil Rights Movement

The deletion was made under G7 as the portal had only one significant contributor. The deletion was disputed by Winged Blades of Godric, but this dispute was removed with the comment that "G7s cannot be contested by anyone other than the creator(s) of the content". I'm not aware of any such rule, and I think given that this was controversial it should be restored and debated fully at XfD if necessary. I also think the portal had good and useful content, so should be retained. The deleting admin, Fastily has given permission for it to be restored or listed here as well. Thanks  — Amakuru (talk) 08:49, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Strongly Oppose as out of process - I still request that this be deleted as per WP:G7. I have the full right to ask that my contributions be removed if no other editor has changed them in any substantial way (in this case, literally no editors other than myself). I've been here for over a decade and this is the first time I've seen a valid G7 contested, especially when there has been only one contributor to the content, and especially in the portal/project space instead of the mainspace. I didn't put all this (*volunteered*) effort forward so I would have to deal with constant headaches caused by a band of users. I created the portal, no one added or edited any of it (including the sub-pages), and now I feel that I wish that I never had. If this stays with the ridiculous name change, then I'm simply finished with this site. Period. Coffee // have a ☕️ // beans // 09:01, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
I'm not sure if this is the right place for all this - Coffee, for the record, and to perhaps quell any false notions people may have, could you briefly explain why you wanted the page deleted? - TNT 09:20, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
Because I am the sole author and decided to work on other more pressing projects for now. I do indeed not like the name change that was being done, but that's a fight for another day (and that talk page, which includes that discussion is still public) as it seems our standards for consensus have changed drastically. Like I said, this stays, I go. Because there's no reason to continue to have a daily headache about something no one had even thought to create, when I can simply use my energy elsewhere until I feel motivated to recreate this portal in a manner that will benefit everyone. If that isn't a valid enough reason for a G7 request, then you better believe I will spend my time finding and listing the thousands of "bad" G7 deletions that are done every year, and post them here so we can all discuss each one in truly intense detail. Coffee // have a ☕️ // beans // 09:51, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
  • Support, we don't own our contributions once made, and G7 is for clear and incontrovertible situations only. Fish+Karate 10:57, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
    • Requesting a G7 does not imply ownership. As to your second point, that is not written in the policy at all so it is therefore moot here. The only requirement for a G7 deletion is as follows: If requested in good faith and provided that the only substantial content of the page was added by its author. This request is not done out of frustration, nor out of bad faith, but merely a refocusing of my efforts for the time being. Simply because you wish to see personal stress or a potential punishment? of some kind come my way, is not a good enough reason to try to stop me from requesting a G7. And were it any other editor, it would be just the same. Coffee // have a ☕️ // beans // 11:16, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
  • Support - Per Fish and Karate.Coffee's tagging is an example of behavior of extremal ownership to such extents, that once he realised that the MRV isn't going his way, and the page will be moved, to a non-favorite title, he choose to dispense the entire setup , in what could be easily cited as an example at WP:POINT.A deletion would be in contrary to our collaborative spirit and a bowing down to Coffee's under-handed tactics. ~ Winged BladesGodric 11:06, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
  • Oppose Coffee and I are members of the WikiProject Civil Rights Movement. Amakuru, Fish+Karate, Winged Blades, Serial Number 54129 are not members. Coffee created the portal and performed most, if not all, the work to maintain the Portal. Coffee has decided to nolonger participate in the maintenance of the portal. I won't participate in the maintenance of the portal. Coffee and I have a demonstrated history of working on CRM related content. If Amakuru, Fish+Karate, Winged Blades, or Serial Number 54129 have a history of working on CRM related articles, then please share it. Otherwise, I am inclined to believe none of you will participate in a continuous effort to maintain or improve the portal. If you don't intend to actively participate on the project, then why seek to restore a portal that will be neglected by its membership? Mitchumch (talk) 12:11, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
Personalises the issues —SerialNumber54129 paranoia /cheap shit room 13:04, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
The issue is the portal will need to be continuously maintained and improved. I don't know what your edit history is regarding CRM related content. If you don't contribute to the CRM space, then it is a legitimate question as to whether you will contribute to the continuous maintenance and improvement of the portal. A portal that is ignored by its membership won't serve the article topic nor Wikipedia well. Mitchumch (talk) 13:16, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
Coffee Do you have any objections to this request? Mitchumch (talk) 13:25, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
  •  Done, I have restored it under my own name, if that will alleviate Coffee's concerns. There are enough people who want to maintain this to make it viable. I hope this solution respects the original G7 while allowing those interested to continue it. So please don't un-delete Coffee's contributions. Note, I will not be maintaining this portal. If it goes stagnant, I will delete it again. ~Anachronist (talk) 15:17, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
@Anachronist: unfortunately there's a WP:RUD issue with this approach. The restored material needs to be attributed to those that originally wrote it. Honestly, I can't see why everyone is treading on eggshells over this. We should just restore the page with its full history, move it to the lowercase version as per the completed RM, and get on with our lives. I've never known so much drama around the following of simple Wikipedia procedures.  — Amakuru (talk) 15:45, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
@Anachronist: I agree with Amakuru that this solution is problematic. You cannot use content that someone else created, whether in whole or in part, and repost it “under your own name” – that’s a violation of the attribution requirement of CC BY-SA, as noted in WP:RUD. We should either completely rewrite the portal from scratch, attribute the material to Coffee, or leave the material deleted. Mz7 (talk) 17:23, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
Then we simply create an attribution statement on the talk page. That will satisfy WP:RUD. ~Anachronist (talk) 05:57, 7 April 2018 (UTC)
Right, but you can start to see how this is now a roundabout equivalent to just undeleting the whole page. If we’re unsure of how CSD policy applies here, maybe we should start a policy discussion at WP:AN or WT:CSD. Mz7 (talk) 12:05, 7 April 2018 (UTC)

There are a couple of other pages that need to be undeleted as well:

They should also be moved to wherever the main Portal winds up - there's currently a misspelling in the title. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 15:50, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Reuse Wasted Areas of Donghae Nambu Line

Actually I made a page that 'Reuse Wasted Areas of Donghae Nambu Line'. But someone deleted this articles for duplicates an existing topic 'Donghae Nambu Line'. But it's not true. 'Donghae Nambu Line' doesn't include the topic about 'Reuse Wasted Areas of Donghae Nambu Line'. And also It's not duplication. 'Reuse Wasted Areas of Donghae Nambu Line' is one of a work of Busan city, South Korea. Totally different with 'Donghae Nambu Line'. 'Donghae Nambu Line' is made by KORAIL (Korean Railroad). So I made a article 'Reuse Wasted Areas of Donghae Nambu Line'. But It's already deleted. So I want to restore my writing. So I ask here. Thanks to read my bad writing. ^^ —Genie.P (talk) 06:16, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

You could add your content to the Donghae Nambu Line, as although it is a slightly different topic, is would be a subtopic. Or you can try to persuade user:RHaworth who deleted it. Because it is an A10 case you should ask the person who deleted it. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 08:04, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

  • Not done – this Requests for Undeletion process is only for articles that were deleted uncontroversially, and does not apply to articles deleted after a deletion discussion. Since the article you are here about was deleted after a discussion took place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Toptal (2nd nomination), it cannot be undeleted through this process. However, if you believe that the outcome of the discussion did not reflect the consensus of the participants, or that significant new information has come to light since the article was deleted, you may contact the administrator who closed the discussion, user MBisanz (talk · contribs). After you do so, if your concerns are not addressed and you still seek undeletion, a request may be made at deletion review. Hut 8.5 17:52, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

This article was deleted back in 2006 after being WP:PRODed. If this is the same Aaron Zebley referenced in this source and this source then I think the article should be undeleted and revived. Aaron was Robert Mueller's chief of staff at the FBI, followed Mueller to Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, and then followed Mueller again as part of the Special Counsel investigation (2017-present). I posted a message to the deleting admin's talk page, but I think they may be inactive considering how long ago this page was deleted. — - PaulT+/C 16:02, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

There's so little in the deleted article, and it's so badly written, that I'd suggest just starting it from scratch, instead of restoring what was there. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 16:05, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
I'm sure it needs a lot of work, it was successfully PRODed after all! Sometimes it is good to see old versions of a page even if they are extremely out of date. It would also be helpful to have a starting point even if it isn't very useful. At the very least the old history would be restored once the article is recreated, right? - PaulT+/C 16:11, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

It was claimed to be a copy of https://www.science.org.au/fellowship/fellows/biographical-memoirs/charles-william-shoppee-1904-1994 and thus a copyright infringement. It was tagged by user:Diannaa as a copyright violation, when I checked with the Earwig's Copyvio Detector, it came back with (I think) about 50% matching data. The option was to remove the matching data or delete. The article was quite small, to remove 50% would have made it worthless. I'll email the last version. Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:53, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
Email received. Thank you, Pdfpdf (talk) 09:20, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
It looks like the first sentence is copyvio-free and it would make a minimal stub, but apart from that the text looks like a close paraphrase of the source cited, apart from another bit which is identified as a quotation. Hut 8.5 07:06, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
Now that I can see it, perhaps the paraphrasing is a little too close. Obviously the names of the positions, the universities, the awards and the molecules are going to be identical to the source, but it shouldn't be hard to change the phrasing etc. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 09:20, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

  • You'll need to talk to the deleting admin, if you don't get a response or you aren't happy with the response then you can use deletion review. I suspect that the fact that a large number of edits to the page were made by User:Qifahs17, a block-evading sockpuppet, has something to do with the reason for deletion. Ack. I didn't see the preceding cmt. However I don't think we should delete an article created by an editor who is not blocked because someone who is made significant edits. I have reverted to the last pre-socking version. -Ad Orientem (talk) 22:17, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
As far as I can make out from the messy editing history this isn't a valid G5: the content was written in draft space by Das osmnezz, Qifahs17 moved it to mainspace in a cut-and-paste move, and then Ad Orientem then did the move properly (deleting Qifahs17's version). Since Das osmnezz isn't banned from creating draft articles, Qifahs17 didn't write the original text and the draft was moved to mainspace by Ad Orientem (who isn't banned from anything) I don't see how G5 applies, although I can certainly see how the deleting admin may have got confused. Hodge Decision

I am in the process of creating this article for a school project through wikiedu —Leidelar78 (talk) 15:35, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

Note: Surely you jest! No page's ever existed under that title (or any reasonable permutation of it) in any reasonable namespace! Are you sure that the page's title is correct? I see no evidence such a page has ever existed (if a page once existed on a given title, the page's deletion log will be displayed). This page is for requesting the un-deletion of a page, not for asking if it's kosher to make a page at that title; if there is indeed a deleted page you will need to provide the exact title (capitalisation and all; titles are case-sensitive) of the page you wish undeleted. —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 01:58, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
Bizarrely enough, an "article" by that name did exist; but all it consisted of, was a "bibliography" which in turn consisted of a single footnote to a Daily Kos item. Leidelar: create and use a sandbox until you've actually got some content. --Orange Mike | Talk 03:18, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
Under what title? I didn't see any deletion logs under any valid permutation of the title, including adding a "The" to the beginning of it and lowercasing "decision". —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 09:33, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
Talk:Hodge Decision and Draft Talk:Hodge Decision. --Orange Mike | Talk 23:42, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
That would explain why I didn't find them; I didn't think to look at the talk pages (though in my defence, such pages are generally deleted if attached to a nonexistent article/draft). —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 00:24, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Draft:About MERRITHEW

I, MERRITHEW, request the undeletion of this draft or Articles for creation submission deleted under CSD G13. Please restore the page as I intend to work on it. MERRITHEW (talk) 13:59, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

Not done This was one of several advertisements for your company which you have unsuccessfully tried to get into Wikipedia. Please have the decency to wait until somebody without a paid connection to this company decides to create an article about it. (And by the way: your failure to disclose your connection to the company was a violation of our Terms of Service.) --Orange Mike | Talk 05:36, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Doug Imbruce

The inventor and entrepreneur is notable, having won over a dozen "highest level" awards in the tech community (Webby's, Apple's "Best of", Time Magazine's "Best Startup CEOs", Business Insider's "Top 100 inventors in Silicon Valley", etc.) - all easily identifiable via a simple web search - and created technology still in use by major corporations including Yahoo! and Apple, with dozens of patent filings and notable sources within online search results and printed materials. He was a pioneer of automating the creation of video from data, as demonstrated via many cited news sources, and awarded patents. Deletion of the page seems unwarranted. The inventor remains a sought after expert, and reference materials on him are helpful to the technology community at large. He has authored articles in major publications including, but not limited to, Newsweek (on page one of his search results), and his inventions have featured prominently inside the pages of MIT technology review, the NY Times, and more. —65.204.33.38 (talk) 23:05, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

I have some doubts about duplication with the company article, but as a prod it can be restored., and I have done so. AfD optional DGG ( talk ) 06:25, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

WikkaWiki

The authors were never given an opportunity or notice about updating the article with primary resources. Numerous primary resources (mostly scholarly papers) have been published that refer to WikkaWiki. We would like the opportunity to update the page with these references just as other "notable" wiki pages have been given the same opportunity. —Brianko (talk) 03:14, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

Note: The page was deleted as a result of a deletion debate. Admins will not undelete pages that were deleted with discussion here; go to WP:Deletion review or contact the administrator that closed the deletion debate instead.
Also: what is your connection with the publishers of this program? You don't seem to edit articles about any other topic. --Orange Mike | Talk 03:27, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

I didn't see any debate in the talk section, just a decision by a single admin to remove the article. I'm the main developer on the project; I've been involved since early 2000's and currently host the project on github. You'll find that I've updated the page with updates on various occasions over the years. Brianko (talk) 03:36, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

Draft:Viewforth Church

Stephen Mbogo

There are sources on Google News (using the name "Steve Mbogo") that indicate that the person meets WP:GNG and WP:NBIO. The article and its talk page should therefore be undeleted, allowing for sources to be added to the article. —GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 01:21, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

  • @GeoffreyT2000: I think we may be looking at different people here, the deleted article described the subject as "a Kenyan development journalist and a regional security analyst". The Steve Mbogo who gets all the Google News hits is a "flamboyant politician" and businessman. Hut 8.5 06:41, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

My page was just deleted and I dont know why? I was making a wiki page for my school and I requested on someone's page who declined the request to make it a page on what I should change to fix it and I just logged back in and it has been deleted. Note: The page isn't deleted, therefore there's no reason to undelete it. Please follow the instructions on the deletion tag in order to contest (if a speedy deletion or prod/stickyprod) or argue against (if a deletion debate) deletion. The page was redirected, not deleted; all edits remain visible in the article history. Deletion zeroes out the revision history. —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 21:41, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
Oh, hey, I remember that! I think we redirected the page into the article about the school district. Jjjjjjdddddd (talk) 06:00, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
That is indeed the case. —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 07:48, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Kaseya

Company is one of just a few major players in the Remote Management & Monitoring software platforms for Managed Service Providers. I am a customer/user of their software products, and wanted to learn more about the company and surprise an article does not exist. I wish to establish a neutral viewpoint article about the company and their products. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bwave (talkcontribs) 15:49, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Not done – this Requests for Undeletion process is only for articles that were deleted uncontroversially, and does not apply to articles deleted after a deletion discussion. Since the article you are here about was deleted after a discussion took place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kaseya, it cannot be undeleted through this process. However, if you believe that the outcome of the discussion did not reflect the consensus of the participants, or that significant new information has come to light since the article was deleted, you may contact the administrator who closed the discussion, user MER-C (talk · contribs). After you do so, if your concerns are not addressed and you still seek undeletion, a request may be made at deletion review.

Fireman (Musician)

This deletion policy makes for a horrible experience! I will never contribute another minute of my time on wiki if my article is not returned for further editing. I don't have it saved anywhere, I am gradually writing the article at my pace and your just going to let someone delete it immediately?? It was not even close to finished! NOT EVEN CLOSE!! I doubt any research was done in your "SPEEDY" process, and it takes time to contribute good content. When all your work gets deleted by some lonely no life, it makes you want to go on a deleting rampage! If you give me more than a few days to figure out this mess of a failing website, and actually finish my article, I will eventually have all relevant information provided on the page. Thank You And Probably Goodbye}

  • Restoring to draft space.
@Mciverbrooks: I agree with the deleting editor that the article did not assert the significance or importance of Fireman. (I disagree on the claim that the article is pure promotion.) I also note that you had been working on it just a few minutes before the speedy deletion was applied, yet you did nothing in the next hour to address the pending deletion—no further edits, no talk page messages.
Under the circumstances, I am going to restore the article to Draft space for you to work on it. Look for it momentarily at Draft:Fireman (musician). —C.Fred (talk) 16:48, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
There is a reason the drafting process exists, and it's so that you can edit articles that are not yet ready for mainspace with less fear of it being deleted, which is why the page was just undeleted and moved to draft (see Draft:Fireman (musician)). Creating an article directly in mainspace is the best way to ensure that it is deleted if it is found wanting, since mainspace is indexed by search engines (drafts are not by design).
I would also suggest not insulting the administrators - this is an unpaid volunteer gig, and the personal attacks are utterly uncalled for. It'd be akin to cursing out a waiter at a restaurant because you botched your order. —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 16:54, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
