Cyberoam security certifications

This happened too fast. Today morning I received a speedy deletion tag on Cyberoam Security certifications which alleged that the page was promotional. I tried to contest the tag by adding this.{{hangon}} I was open to constructive suggestions in the user talk page and would have edited the whole article but before I could react, the article was speedily deleted by the user http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Fastily. I request that I be allowed to rewrite this article. It is not promotional in intent. It's just a training and certification page which has substantial presence in Google. There are several other pages on wikipedia that have similar contents to the one that has been deleted. Check this page to verify a complete list Professional_certification_(computer_technology)

Please note the Cyberoam Security certifications page is no different from Juniper_Networks_Technical_Certification_Program, Zend_Certified_Engineer and other certification pages. They all revolve around certification courses that are fairly popular on Google. None of them are as famous as the one that has been deleted. I want a way to rewrite the deleted article again if there is a concern of unnecessary promotion. It can be trimmed down. --

Please undelete this article and provide me the old copy. -Tech editor007 (talk) 13:38, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

You may work on improving the article's assertion of notability at its new location, but please contact Fastily (talk · contribs), the administrator who deleted the page, again before moving it back to the article space. Please see the criteria for speedy deletion and the relevant notability guidelines - articles that are not in compliance will be deleted. This article was promotional in tone, though, and as such unchanged for weeks already. --Tikiwont (talk) 16:20, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Grechishken, Pavel

This is a page for a Russian artist who died in 2008. He was a master landscape painter who received national and international recognition for his work. There were at least two books of his paintings published, in Russian. All of the material about him is in Russian, hence some of the difficulty making a page in English. I have, however, been able to cite two books, one specifically about his paintings, and another about Russian painters in India, in which he is mentioned. There is a third book that will be referenced when I am able to obtain the information. This artist devoted his life to his paintings, and his paintings are great works. He should not be excluded from Wikipedia because of my inexperience as a Wikipedia article author. I was, and will continue to work to improve the article, the language, the references and by adding images of his paintings. The main thing I'd like to stress is that this was an artist who dedicated his life to art and to painting, mostly, the beauty of his country. I'm sure he deserves a Wikipedia page as much as any professional athlete. -Nicholasbee (talk) 15:17, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Not done You have the wrong page. You can either rewrite there article in a non-promotional manner or seek deletion review. This page is only for non-controversial requests. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 16:31, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Broadway (band)

This is an upcoming band from Florida that is signed to an independent record label, Uprising Records. There is no reason they should not have a wikipedia page, and i have all the information and sources available to write one up for them. If there was no specific reason for them not to have one, I would like to be permitted to make a page for them, which then could be edited by anyone in the future, but there are many less known bands that have pages so I don't see why not. -The.blinding.light (talk) 17:01, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

Not done While the article was technically deleted on author request in last instance, its deletion and salting reflected the trend of this deletion debate. You should begin by presenting evidence of how the band now meets WP:MUSIC to the deleting administrator, User:Skier Dude, who may help you further. If you cannot come to terms, consider Wikipedia:Deletion review. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 18:11, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

attana

Attana is a pioneering biotech tools company, being the first to successfully develop a tool using the Quartz Crystal Microbalance technology in real-time kinetic studies of molecular interactions. During 2010 it also became the first company in the world to develop a biosensor capable of kinetic interaction studies of living cells and cell membranes. Furthermore, Attana is the only company referenced under the article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quartz_crystal_microbalance demonstrating the company's importance within the Quartz Crystal Microbalance field. -Samfost (talk) 08:36, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

  •  Not done Article was deleted as a copyright violation, and was the 5th speedy deletion over 4 years. All of what you say may be true, but you require third party reliable sources (and that means other than the company's own site), and most importantly, it cannot be a near-verbatim copy of information from the company's website. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 09:07, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
  • OK, is there anyway of reinstating the article so it may be revised to suit WP requirements? We have tried creating a new page but now get a copyright infringement notice. Attana has been cited in well over 50 scientific publications so and is referenced to in several other WP articles.
What is your relationship to the company? (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 09:19, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
I co-founded the company in 2002 and worked there until 2008.

Rule 34

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Rule_34_%28Internet_meme%29

There will be a novel published in the next year, with "Rule 34" as the title.

It will be by the noted SF author Charles Stross. By banning "rule 34" you are censoring book-publication, which is contrary to Wikipedia's remit, as I understand it. Please refer to: http://www.antipope.org/charlie/blog-static/2010/09/incidentally-2.html

Not done. See WP:Notability (books)#Not yet published books. If the book is published and becomes notable enough to have a Wikipedia article, there will be nothing to stop creation of an article called "Rule 34 (novel)" or similar. JohnCD (talk) 10:09, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Globus family of brands

While I understand that some Wikipedia editors do not want companies listed in Wikipedia because they think it's advertising, when a company lists more than 10 third-party references in the form of unbiased articles to support an article, it's unacceptable that an article is deleted. Furthermore, if the Globus family of brands was deleted, I could come up with a list of 1,000 or more companies that should also be deleted. I will continue to contest this until it's fairly and properly handled. -Melaniegravdal (talk) 12:32, 15 September 2010 (UTC)Melaniegravdal (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.

Not done - this article has not been restored because it does not appear to meet our guidelines for inclusion of articles concerning companies. In general, Wikipedia considers a topic to be notable if there exist multiple reliable sources of information on the topic, external to the subject itself. Articles concerning companies will be deleted on sight if they are considered to be unambiguous advertising or promotion, or if they do not contain a credible assertion of the significance of the subject. Avalon Waterways

This Wikipedia article was up for more than a month and edited by several sources. It did not contain any advertising and instead, only sourced and referenced approximately 10 third-party editorial articles including USA Today, Travel+Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler, Travel Weekly, etc.. I understand some Wikipedia editor's insistence to keep companies off the site but unfortunately, deleting Avalon Waterways and not many of the company's competitors - or the rest of the companies on the site, for that matter - is unfair and was improperly handled. -Melaniegravdal (talk) 12:35, 15 September 2010 (UTC)Melaniegravdal (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.

Sterling Jewelers

reasoning -198.70.201.220 (talk) 17:57, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

The administrator who deleted this page claimed it was for G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion. Although there may have been spots on the page which should not have been there, and may have been somewhat promotional in language, there was also much of the history of this 100-year old company.

The page should not have been deleted via speedy deletion, but could have been nominated for deletion discussion. Also, flags could have been placed to point out which parts of the page fell under the G11 opinion, but certainly the whole page should not have been deleted.

I found one that was speedy deleted back in May at Sterling Jewelers, but that is all I can offer up.- McMatter (talk)/(contrib) 22:13, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
Sterling Jewelers, Inc., is the parent corporation of both Kay Jewelers and Jared The Galleria of Jewelry in the US (as well as a number of regional chains), and their corporate offices are located in Akron, Ohio. I had read the page on Wikipedia several times, latest being late 2009, and it had been there for some time. When the page was deleted, all discussions and history were also summarily deleted. Checking archive.org did not find anything, as they don't appear to archive Wikipedia's contents, just the front page. People I have discussed this with have suggested it may be vandalism, (since instead of being edited or flagged, or even submitted for deletion discussion, it was speedy deleted), but I have no way of having any real evidence of that. 03:03, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
Looking at the edit history of that article, it looks like an anon placed multiple {{db-spam}} tags throughout the article. A legitimate editor came through and it looks like they removed one of them, but it must have still been in the speedy category because of the other speedy tags therein, and it was thus deleted. The article did have an {{advert}} tag on it as well, which can be analyzed later, but I think the G11 is something that can legitimately be contested here. --Kinu t/c 03:38, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for agreeing with me. I appreciate your fast response. This is why I love Wikipedia! 00:27, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

Two_Knotty_Boys

As a frequent user of Wikipedia, I believe the article on the "Two_Knotty_Boys" had merit to remain on the site. I believe the person who deleted it did so due to personal or moral bias. The "Two Knotty Boys" are known internationally for their demonstrations and classes on sexually related materials including how-to books on Japanese Shibari or rope bondage. The material they have presented in their books and classes has provided valuable safety & creative guidance on the subject. The article also listed general information on rope bondage techniques and practices tastefully and without showing lewd (US Federal definition) content. Having attended seminars of theirs and as the owner of several of their books, their article was relevant and of more than mere regional interest.

As previously noted, I believe who-ever deleted this article did so without good reason but due to a personal or religious agenda. Given that, I ask that their article be restored.

I wish to appeal the deletion of the "Two Knotty Boys" Wikipedia entry. I believe it is harder to quantify popularity in subjects of Kink because it is a special interest area that also deals with sensitivity of exposure to some individuals. As such, information is harder to find and can be restricted behind registration only access forums, websites, etc. These locations will not be indexed by Google, and knowledge is only available to people within these communities. Two Knotty Boys are well known within the bondage community and have made over 11 years of contributions back to it. They are celebrated as educations and advocates of open sharing of information within the BDSM scene. They give workshops through out the year, have been reviewed or mentioned by newspapers, including Playboy publications. -Binarynomad (talk) 16:22, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Tom is a prominent local politician who has received significant coverage from multiple newspapers. Also, while not a provincial politician, he is involved in several provincial initiatives, such as leading local opposition to current wind turbine regulations created by the McGuinty provincial government.  Not done Articles that briefly mention the candidate do not count as "significant coverage". Based on "failed candidates" alone, Wikipedia could have a million more articles about non-notable personnel. Having an article on Wikipedia does not immediately grant someone notability, so trying to get this article to stay with an impending municipal election is a little concerning. As a frequent user of Wikipedia, I believe the article on the "Two_Knotty_Boys" had merit to remain on the site. Apparently the reason that was given for the deletion was that they are only of local interest or not even that, which is simply not true. I live in Vienna, Austria, Europe and they (being from San Francisco) are well known here in the BDSM-scene for their books and information materials on rope bondage, and this is also the case in Germany and probably also in other European countries. - I'd say that indicates more than just "local interest" in their work. The wikipedia article on "Bondage_rigger" rightfully lists them among as notable bondage riggers. They are known internationally for their demonstrations and classes on sexually related materials including how-to books on Japanese Shibari or rope bondage. The material they have presented in their books and classes has provided valuable safety & creative guidance on the subject. The article was relevant and of more than mere regional interest. As a wiki-user/non-editor and academic, I came here looking for info on the case as it applies not only to Nancy Grace but to the broader picture of media influence, paparazzi, etc. etc. and was extremely surprised to find that the article's been deleted due to non-relevance! I simply don't see why/how it's determined that an item on Duckett isn't deemed noteworthy especially when random searches of other female suspected/accused murderers--many of whom have no historical impact or ties to other noteworthy personalities i.e. like Beverly Allitt, Bambi Bembenek, Celeste Beard just to name a few. But you could either ask at deletion review bringing there all independent references in which case I'd temporarily restore it, or I send it to you via mail for reuse at a time when the artist has been recognized.--Tikiwont (talk) 20:00, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Sharifuddin Khalifa is a well known phenomenon on the net who has been searched by millions. His ability to not only speak at the age of 12 months but to recite the Qur'an (in Arabic) without any education whatsoever is astounding. By the age of 5 he was able to speak 5 languages fluently, again without education. sysoon

is a [http://www.sysoon.com www.sysoon.com] notable website? -Mimamax (talk) 09:01, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

Sysoon I think Sysoon is like a FindAGrave.com - however its a specialized search engine for dead people only.

Its very helpful, and many wikipedians use it, to find an individual's birt/death date on a vital record worldwide. Sysoon helps contributors to find the information about the dead people. Its fast and easy.

Evidence of notability:

  • Sysoon Inc. won a well-known and independent award - WebAward 2010 (by Web Marketing Association) for sysoon.com for For Outstanding Achievement in Web Development - by WebAwards
  • Copywriting - Content is unique and sysoon have thousands of contributors worldwide and use only own data (not a duplicate content)
  • Press - There are more publication like in the Funeral Service Time
  • [http://www.sysoon.org/img/e-funerals-cover.png Cover Funral Service Times],
  • [http://www.sysoon.org/img/e-funerals-1a.png 1st page - see yelow section],
  • [http://www.sysoon.org/img/e-funerals-2a.png 2nd page - see yelow section],
Not done The deleting admin both endorsed their decision and sent you here, so this is kind of second opinion as this process is not really for overturning such decisions. As has as I see neither the award nor the article were present in the deleted article. From the website it seems that the WebAward is given to dozens of sites and screen shots form sysons own site are hardly usable. Not to mention that almost all sysoon external links seem to have been added by yourself. Wikipedia:External_links/Noticeboard#Sysoon seems to be the more important discussion for now. If you still disagree or come at any later point across more references for an article about Sysoon itself, it might be best to create a fresh userspace draft based exclusively on independent sources and bring that to deletion review. --Tikiwont (talk) 19:07, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

It's been a copyvio for months, and older versions are no better. Revisions since 2006 have been filled with trivia, spam, and material that reads like it was pulled off another website. A 2006 AfD for a stub of the article resulted in no consensus, but few sources have emerged since then and when I deleted it. Obviously, not a short-term issue, and vandalism wasn't the main issue at all. If someone wants to work on this, it would be much easier to just start over, because I see very little (essentially none, really) salvageable material currently. /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 02:00, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

669_Radio_Show

The radio show is a local staple that is quite popular, and many other single market entities exist including Radio Shows, Newscasters, and businesses which do not pertain regionally or nationally. It is believe that a rival radio show had issue with posting on the official website forums and may have come here to influence deletion. The page also is mentioned with Crispin Glover, WCSB, and Norton Furniture. The Wiki for 669 Radio Show had links to articles in multiple magazines and awards that the show was won and the host has also won. The reason for deletion was "single-market local radio program with no properly sourced notability" which is incorrect as many links to articles and magazines with published articles are a part of the page. If the page cannot be returned, the host of the radio show would like to be able to copy the information from it as some of the links he needed were on the Wiki page.

Done – as a contested proposed deletion, the article has been restored upon request.. I will notify user Bearcat (talk · contribs), who PRODded it, in case he wishes to nominate it at Articles for deletion. I see no indication that rivals "came here to influence deletion" - the reason given for the PROD was "single-market local radio program with no properly sourced notability per WP:NMEDIA", and though the article has a large number of references, two out of three that I checked did not actually mention "669" at all. If you want to help the article, weed out irrelevant references and make sure there are enough that provide "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Interstate 90 Business

This page serves a valuable purpose as a disambiguation page. Interstate 90 Business exists in many cities and towns across the US. WikiProject U.S. Roads established the naming conventions and article standards for highway articles. The correct title format is Interstate X Business (City, State). Each location receives its own article (example: Interstate 90 Business (Post Falls, Idaho)). Interstate X Business is then used as the disabiguation page. The deletion log entry gives a reason "(db-r3)", which appears to reference CSD R-3. That provision relates to "redirects from implausible typos or misnomers" and clearly would not apply. Undeleting the page should fix this error with less work than recreating the page from scratch. -Sehome Bay (Leave a message) 01:04, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

The only content in the history there is #REDIRECT [[Interstate 90 in Montana]]. Just create a new disambig page with what you want to be there, there's no need to undelete the old redirect, especially since that's not anything like what you want to be there. Not at all, and please assume good faith. By themselves, the articles as written should have been deleted. However, with proper rewrite, and not trying to shoehorn info in as was done (i.e. Chinese names for Japanese places), both contain useful and Wikilike information which will be sifted and used in the seeds of Chinese placename etymologies and Japanese placename etymologies, as exist for Germany and North America and so on. Again, ouch and surprisingly beneath you. Have my requests/edits thus far bespoken that I use them frivolously?--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 09:57, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
Done. I wouldn't see any assumption of bad faith here, merely two issues and I've restored both articles for your consultation. User:Kintetsubuffalo/List of foreign place names in Japanese is a mere list of exonyms. I don't see how it can help for creating Japanese placename etymologies where I'd rather start from Japanese place names. Maybe you want to verify whether consensus with respect to lists of exonyms has changed (we have quite a lot), otherwise I'd ask you to mark it for deletion again. User:Kintetsubuffalo/List of Chinese exonyms for places in Japan seems to be more useful but you can see yourself what to do with it.--Tikiwont (talk) 08:22, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Massimo Osti

I don't understand why the article was tagged "G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion". Was present in wikipedia since one year with no discussion about his presumed promotion. The article has been linked from a press released the 3 of september for reference about Massimo Osti biography, but the wiki content hasn't been modified. Moreover, the wiki was the only "official" biography on Massimo Osti and we have no copy of the text anywhere, so would be really important to have the opportunity to restore it. thank you -Supahfly (talk) 16:01, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

Because it was a shameless piece of press-agent puffery, and had no legitimate sources for any of the extravagant claims and bragging it contained. Who is the "we" referred to when you say we have no copy of the text anywhere? --Orange Mike | Talk 16:13, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

"We" are the family of Massimo Osti and we worked hard to build his biography. I'm his son. I worked several month interviewing many people and putting together the pieces to trace his professional history. Everything I wrote is documented, but in most of the cases I've physical evidence (lables, garments, testimony from people worked with him) that is not possible to link to. I found few articles and blogs online to support what I wrote, and I linked them in the resources. If you think this is a "hameless piece of press-agent puffery", I would have been glad to receive a comment to the article to have the opportunity to improve it, instead to having it deleted with no explanation. I'm sorry, I'm not into wikipedia, but from what I understood, this is the spirit of the project. May I have a copy of the text please?

Then that's unfortunately conflict of interest, original research, and an unfortunate understanding of what Wikipedia is about. If you would like to use the article incubator, or make a request for someone to create it then that would be beneficial. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 09:05, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
