Crash Bandicoot Series Characters Template

It would be really nice if there was a template for the characters of the Crash Bandicoot series, much like the Sonic or Mario characters have their own. Cat's Tuxedo Saturday June 10, 2006 10:02 PM

MAAC Football Conference

La Salle University Duquesne University Iona College Marist College St. Peter's College

Someone please craete this. Athletically, this is one of the last conferences not to have a template. A similar template to this one would be the Atlantic-10 Football Conference

Already created, possibly by the requestor, as Template:MAAC Football Conference. --CBD 16:44, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Rugby Union - Six Nations

Hi,

For the Six Nations could we have a template, similar to the one found on the Tri Nations Series page? Just links to any/all championship pages plus teams involved etc.

Thanks, tomburnell 11:15, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Hmm, maybe we should wait until the rest of the tournament pages are created. Right there is just 05 and 06 on the template, which looks kind of weird. The French wiki has all the tournaments, so copying a pasting them over here, with a few language tweaks here and there shouldnt be too hard. Cvene64 12:11, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I went looking for the other tournament pages, but found none, so I went ahead and just added the ones that already existed. I can't speak french so we will need someone else to do it. (Or we could use a translator I guess)--SomeStranger(t|c) 13:39, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Ah, cheers for that. I'd tried a couple of variations but clearly hadn't hit upon the right one to find it. I'd already created the 2007 article earlier in the day and have, as a start, just find&replaced the French from the 2004 page. Cheers tho! tomburnell 16:28, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
I cant really speak much French either, but the tables and results are all much the same. I might go do some now. Cvene64 23:53, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Scary

I'd like to see a large template that warns people that the article has images or other thngs that may frighten people, this could go on articles like Harlequin Type Ichtyosis, which has as scary image of a person on it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.165.46.77 (talkcontribs)

Inappropriate Content Templates

Wikipedia is not censored, but it would be ideal to warn readers with templates that say things such as:

"This article contains profane language, and might not be appropriate for readers under the age of 18."

and:

"This article contains explicit images, and might not be appropriate for readers under the age of 18."

The templates could be red, to be more noticable. --Gray Porpoise 18:33, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

  • I am not sure if something like this already exists. If nothing does then I need an image suggestion (the image to place in the template). Thanks.--SomeStranger(t|c) 22:48, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
  • Here are images I made. They are far from professional, but if the templates will be made, you may edit the images to your liking:

File:Profanitywarning.JPG (for profanity) File:Imagewarning.JPG (for images; the odd box is supposed to represent pixellation)

Infobox Polish Navy

Could someone please change the logic on Template:Infobox Polish Navy so the work "surfaced" does not appear as a row sub header, unless the submerged value is provided as well? Should be done for Displacement and Speed. See the templates talk page for reasoning. Thanks.--J Clear 20:57, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Is there a template to flag articles with an excessive amount of red links for clean-up? I think I remember seeing one somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. Is it possible to add a template for this? Thanks. smileydude66 03:36, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Is this {{redlinks}} what you were looking for?--J Clear 23:46, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
Yes, that's exactly what I'm looking for! Thanks, J Clear! Very much appreciated! smileydude66 04:37, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
First encountered that over on List of Victory ships, where a few hundred ships w/o articles were all listed as red links. sed took care of that. Easy enough to convert them back to links as the articles are written.--J Clear 12:09, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Tales of Symphonia

I'd like to request a template that would link together articles related to the videogame Tales of Symphonia. There are a number of articles built around the subject, but they are scattered haphazardly in links. One trying to find information on various subjects would be forced to either search individually or search for links within independent articles.

Here are some of the articles that would be linked together: Lloyd Irving Mithos Yggdrasill Cruxis Kratos Aurion Eternal Sword Desians Kharlan War Martel Sylvarant Tethe'alla And there are more still. Having one common template to link these together would be, I feel, very beneficial.

Is Category:Tales of Symphonia characters not sufficient somehow? If you make sure all of the characters in in the category (by adding [[Category:Tales of Symphonia characters]]) at the bottom, they will all be in this category. -- Rick Block (talk) 03:02, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Be aware of talk page

I would like to have a template which read more or less the following:

This article has been the subject of extensive discussions concerning its wording. Please consult the talk page before performing any substantial changes to this article.

The rationale is the article Euro which has had a longer discussion of wether one should write 5 euro or 5 euros. A consensus seems to have been established, but every so often someone comes in and changes all occurences of euro into euros. I would like a template to warn them not to be too bold about editing an article which has had extensive discussions before reaching consensus. The templates {{disputed*}} could be used, but they are meant for talk pages, and this template should go on the main page. The article is not really in any factual dispute, as a consensus seems to have been reached. The template should not discourage boldness either, just make sure that no substantial changes are made before the talk page is consulted. Bfg 16:51, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

In general, people add statements like yours as comments, so that they are only visible when editing the article. You could add the following to the beginning of the article:
<!--XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX-->
<!--XXX                                           XXX-->
<!--XXX This article has been the subject of XXX-->
<!--XXX extensive discussions concerning its XXX-->
<!--XXX wording. Please consult the talk page XXX-->
<!--XXX before performing any substantial XXX-->
<!--XXX changes to this article. Thank you. XXX-->
<!--XXX                                           XXX-->
<!--XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX-->
and that text would only show up when someone goes to edit the page. — Reinyday, 01:26, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
I think that such a warning simply would not be enough, given most edits in such a big article is done on the subheading level.
What we could need might be a template that was only visible on the edit page, but would be visible for all editing. Would that be feasible? Bfg 14:46, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Trademark template

I was looking for a treademark template to add to a page BitTorrent to indicate that the name BitTorrent is a trademark. It seems to me that a template that puts a small box indicating that the word/phrase given as a paramater is a trademark (or registered trademark) would be usefull on many pages. Trapper 18:06, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Does the trademark symbol (®) not suffice? You can copy and paste the unicode character, or input it using the HTML code &reg;. -- Rick Block (talk) 04:36, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
Of course, if it's not a registered trademark, just use ™ Nil Einne 01:09, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
I think the Manual of Style discourages trademark symbols, anyway. -Amarkov blahedits 01:14, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Evolving technology??

Or something similar. See Blu-ray Disc which at the moment is using the "current event" template at Template:Current; however this is not the purpose of that template, and there does not seem to be an appropriate one available. The purpose of a new template would be to replace Template:Future product once the product was released, but still rapidly evoloving. --Notmicro 02:14, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

You might want to bring this up at Portal:Technology (or its talk page). There doesn't seem to be a category for emerging technologies (although there is an article Emerging technologies). The template itself is a fairly trivial matter (copy and paste the current events template). -- Rick Block (talk) 04:30, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Request for Nightclub template

Hi. For the past 2 hours I have been looking up for a template that could fit my article. The article is about a nightclub. So, I have been looking at other nightclubs, to copy the source template, just to find out this was in vane. The closest possible template was the "Infobox:Company", but still there was more information needed, such as Dj residents, Type of Music, Dress Code, Open Days, Owner, and so on. And because I saw other nightclubs enlisted aswell, maybe this can benefit the article by showing more information.

I came across with a couple of London-based clubs, Fabric ([1]) and Astoria ([2]), both which have a "UK Music Venue" template, which I couldn't seem to modify and which I couldn't found elsewhere but in their source.

Such information in a Nightclub Template should be well acepted by the articles in need of this.

Information needed (and if possible organized in groups such as "venue, licensing, and business" in the uk music venue template): Company name, company logo, compnay type, foundation, industry, homepage, resident djs, music, owner, spaces, layout, & capacity.

Thank you very much.

The UK Music Venue template is at Template:Uk music venue (if you edit any of the articles that use it and scroll way down to the bottom of the page, you'll see links to all the templates used on the article). If you could make a table that looks pretty much like what you want, it would help somebody create a template for you. -- Rick Block (talk) 04:43, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

HTML Template for Reference Section

I would like the HTML template so that I may add a reference. My reference is Frank, Leonard R. (June 2006). Electroshock Quotationary. Retrieved July 23, 2006, from The Coalition for the Abolition of Electroshock in Texas Web site: http://www.endofshock.com (Wolfdeck 05:48, 24 July 2006 (UTC)Wolfdeck)

I tried using the {{and = and | by copying other references but it was not sufficiently accurate and I was sent to the sandbox, which doesn't help as I don't know the HTML and in the sandbox have nothing to copy from.

I'm not sure what you're asking, but have you seen Wikipedia:Citation templates? This page lists a variety of citation templates that already exist and shows how to use them. -- Rick Block (talk) 15:29, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Derry City F.C.

I would like a template to be created to show the current squad and squad numbers of Derry City F.C. with appropriate links to the Wikipedia entries of the players. The player names and numbers can be found in the Derry City F.C. main entry. The requested style is similar to the templates found on most professional footballers' pages such as {{Manchester United F.C. squad}}. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnfullerton (talkcontribs)

I've created one, see Template:Derry City F.C. squad. -- Rick Block (talk) 15:53, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Would it be possible to update the following template http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Derry_City_F.C._squad with a number of changes. Could you please include a full stop after the C in the Derry City F.C. title. Also, could you remove No. 6 Eamon Doherty from the template as he no longer plays for the club. Shaun Holmes who is not numbered in the template plays with No. 22 and could you please include Manager: Stephen Kenny in the template. Thanks.

The requested changes have already been made or are not needed. The change in the manager is no longer needed since Stephen Kenny manages a different club now. Mike Dillon 05:43, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Template:As of

Given that the use of As of is considered a violation of standards (but is used due to lack of a good alternative), I was fiddling with using a template. However, I keep running into dead-ends. My current solution is workable, but has the cost of a blank space. Please see my page for the sample, see Template:As of for what I have so far, and Wikipedia_talk:As_of to see the discussion about As of. --Scott McNay 06:30, 30 July 2006 (UTC).

Update: I made a category, which seems to be the best solution so far. Changing the category name to something like "To be reviewed in" or "Needs review in" might be a good idea also, as in "To be reviewed in 2007" or "Needs review in 2007". --Scott McNay 07:12, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

I suggest discussion about this continue at Wikipedia_talk:As_of, rather than here. -- Rick Block (talk) 15:33, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Template for emergency medical conditions

It would be useful to have a template that refers people to their local emergency phone number based on IP geography: in the US, it would say "call 911 immediately", in Australia, it would say "call 000 immediately". At present, pages either have to bifurcate (a bad idea in an emergency), pick one, or omit the instruction entirely. Although wikipedia is obviously not a good reference for emergency medical problems, many emergency conditions (e.g., stroke, heart attack) come with confusion, so a victim might end up consulting wikipedia anyway. A template that refers users to their local emergency phone number is the best way to fight this.

Because of proxies and other technical limitations, it might be better to say "call xxx or your local emergency phone number immediately". This in turn could link to a page listing emergency numbers for various countries. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vectro (talkcontribs)

Templates don't have access to the IP address of the viewer, so this is not currently possible. We could create a template that includes a link to Emergency telephone number which lists such numbers by country. -- Rick Block (talk) 03:39, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps, then a template which reads "Dial 911, 112, 999, or your local emergency telephone number immediately." Vectro 16:45, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Captain Beefheart

Is there another one that's close (perhaps template:Frank Zappa)? If so, you can just copy and paste it, or ask it's creator (which you can find from its history) to make a Captain Beefheart version. Minor Edits

There is a template directed toward users who overuse the "minor edit" checkbox (Template:minor), but I have not seen one for users who mark minor edits as major. Could one be created? --Gray Porpoise 01:43, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

To be called something like template:useminor and say something like the following? -- Rick Block (talk)
Please remember to mark your edits as minor when they are (see Wikipedia:Minor edit). "The rule of thumb is that an edit of a page that is spelling corrections, formatting, and minor rearranging of text should be flagged as a 'minor edit'."
Yes, just like that. --Gray Porpoise 10:57, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
I've copied this discussion to Wikipedia talk:Template messages/User talk namespace#Template for suggesting use of "minor" edits. Creating the template would be no problem, I'm just curious if anyone might have some objection. -- Rick Block (talk) 15:48, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

CSD

Hi, I'd like to see a template that lets new users know (similar to the one for AfD's) that the article they just created is about to be speedy deleted, and to tag it with {{hangon}} if they wish to contest the deletion. It should have space for a reason (nnbio, vandalism, empty) etc. Thanks! --Deon555|talk|e 08:57, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

I assume you mean like Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace#Deletion notifications? It should be no problem to create template:CSDWarning and template:CSDNote. Whether they'll be regularly used is perhaps another matter. CSD is really intended for articles admins are permitted to delete on sight, so there's no guarantee any such article will be tagged before it's deleted. Perhaps CSD should be changed so it does not apply to "good faith" articles from new users. -- Rick Block (talk) 16:14, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Please see Wikipedia talk:Criteria for speedy deletion#Warning new users about speedy deletes. -- Rick Block (talk) 15:56, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Actor Template

HI, my first time doing an article (I couldn't find another name to best describe it) and I sort of need a template to put in the following information:

  • A photo of the actor (centered)
  • The date and location of the author's birth
  • Occupation.
  • Gender
  • His most notable works.

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Seraphim Alchemist (talkcontribs)

There are a variety of templates that already exist for this. If you look at an existing article for a similar actor, there will almost certainly already be such a template used in the article. To reuse an existing template, just copy and paste the reference (from another article) and correct the content for the new article. For example, template:Infobox Celebrity is used in the article on Harrison Ford. If you let me know what article you're working on I'm sure we can find a template that will work. -- Rick Block (talk) 15:55, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Sandbox templates

I think it would be useful if a template message (with a name along the lines of template:off-sandbox) was created that reads:

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. While you are free to make test edits in the sandbox, please do not post copyrighted, offensive, slanderous, or libelous content in it. This kind of content is not necessary for testing.

Another template, named something like template:sandbox-head, could read:

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. You may make test edits in the sandbox, but please leave the sandbox heading alone.

--Gray Porpoise 22:51, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Why are these needed? These messages can be posted on the sandbox, and if they are deleted, reverting the page is no harder than re-entering the template. --Dgies 05:45, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Talk discussion template

One template that I think would be useful is something one would add when discussing on user pages. For example, if I and User:Bob were having a conversation, he would first leave a message on my talk page. As courtesy, when I respond, I post the response at his talk page (so he gets the "new messages" warning). However, when I post the comments on Bob's talk page, I could insert a template that would read: "This discussion originated at User talk:CrazyInSane", to allow for easy access to the rest of the conversation. What does everyone think?. — `CRAZY`(IN)`SANE` 18:59, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

Might just want to post a message like Please see my reply at User Talk:CrazyInSane#MessageSubject, that way you keep the conversation in a single thread. --Dgies 17:52, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
A somewhat related conversation - using a bot to post both sides of the conversation - can be found at Wikipedia:Bot requests#MessageBot. John Broughton | Talk 02:48, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Template for talk page notifications (a copy at the bottom)

I need a way to automatically place a template or a text notice both at the top and at the bottom of my talk page. If I simply copy the template/text to the bottom, it moves away with each new message as using + to add new section is a common method.
If this could be done with CSS or HTML tags, I'd like to have a template which automates the task. --Dmitry (talkcontibs ) 12:46, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

OK, it seems like <div style="bottom: -13px;position: absolute;"> ... </div> is a start, although I'd like it much more if existing text was flowing around my notification, instead of being behind it... --Dmitry (talkcontibs ) 14:14, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Saskatchewan template request

I'm requesting a template be created to replace the code at Aberdeen No. 373, Saskatchewan, Aberdeen, Saskatchewan, Blucher No. 343, Saskatchewan, Lost River No. 313, Saskatchewan, and various other Saskatchewan articles. Apparently this table is supposed to show which communities lie to the N/S/E/W of the community in question (though I do not know why this is relevant; as far as I know no other state/province pages contain templates like this). I don't know much about Saskatchewan so I don't know why such tables even exist. I've asked on the talk pages, but without much success. But as long as they do exist, we might as well have a pretty template, instead of a bunch of unwieldy code. --Fang Aili talk 14:28, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Converting the HTML to a wiki table seemed like a request within my skill level, so I built a template called Template:Saskatchewan rural municipalities navbox and updated a couple of the "rural municipalities". Arundel77 03:26, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

ActiveDiscuss and Controversial templates

I would like to see 2 templates created for placement at the top of an article that would be similar to the existing templates ActiveDiscuss and Controversial (currently only for talk page). They might be called ActiveDiscuss2 and Controversial2. This is the current ActiveDiscuss template:

{{ActiveDiscuss}}

This is the change or addition that I would like to see:

This article or section is currently being developed or reviewed.
Some statements may be disputed, incorrect, biased or otherwise objectionable.
Please read talk page discussion and discuss before making substantial changes.

Note that and discuss was added.

In addition please modify the Controversial template so that it is suitable for placement at the top of an article. The current Controversial template reads:

Peer review This is a controversial topic, which may be under dispute.
Please read this talk page and discuss substantial changes here before making them.
Make sure you supply full citations when adding information to highly controversial articles.

Please ignore the misplaced warning as I am putting the template here as an example.

I believe these two additional templates would reduce edit wars as people would need to discuss substantial changes before making them.

Who123 15:16, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
I don't think they're useful. If someone wants to discuss, existing templates direct them to the talk page. If they just want to make their change, the template can't stop them. --Dgies 05:42, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Project Needs Update

My suggestion is a template to be placed on Wikipedia-namespace pages that need updating (e.g. collaboration pages that are inactive, or RfAs open longer than they should be). What I specifically have in mind for the template's first usage is on Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations, which has multiple mottos that are over 7 days old, needing attention from an overseer. The template could look something like:

This project page needs to be updated.
Parts of this page have existed longer than {{{1}}}, and are in need of closure/archival.

Overseers or experienced contributors to this page: Please fix the page as necessary, and remove this template when done.

Illegal immigration to the United States

We need a template for "The Illegal alien debate in the United States". I tried to create one, but I'm just not an artist. I need someone with artistic talent. I'd like a template similar to the two on the Intelligent Design page. The picture selected needs to be really neutral as this is a politically charged issue and we don't want to show bias in any direction. Some of the links which can go in the template include, Illegal immigration to the United States Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution United States immigration debate Anchor baby H.R. 4437 2006 United States immigration reform protests S. 2611 Federation for American Immigration Reform National Council of La Raza La Raza Center for Immigration Studies and Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 There should be room for more articles as this subject seems to spawn articles like nobody's business. -Psychohistorian 19:53, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

I'm on it, but if you could specify a full list of links on my talk page that'd be great, for now though I'll just add what's here. It'll be colled (no quotes) "IIUS" - Illegal Immigration in the United States. --Daniel()Folsom T|C|U 16:15, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

To avoid people editing two pages about the same subject

I have made a template Template:Edit linked page not here, e.g.:- {{Edit linked page not here|Article that does not exist|Article that does not exist}}

Television films

Templates exist for both television series and films, but as far as I can tell, no template exists for television films, and neither of the other templates covers the information which is applicable to these. It could also be used for miniseries. I think a template should be made with the following fields:

  • bgcolor
  • name
  • image
  • image size
  • caption
  • format (e.g., genre)
  • runtime
  • creator
  • director
  • producer
  • writer
  • starring
  • music
  • opentheme
  • endtheme
  • country
  • language
  • network
  • first_aired
  • last_aired
  • num_episodes
  • website
  • imdb_id
  • tv_com_id
  • amg_id

Comment: Specifically, I mean an infobox template; I think that's clear, but I never actually stated it. -Shannernanner 09:12, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Went ahead and attempted to make it myself, so have moved the discussion to Proposed infoboxes. -Shannernanner 08:49, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
Created as {{Infobox Television Film}} by requester. Mike Dillon 15:45, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

TVR template

Hope I make myself clear.

I desire a template to go on my talk page, and, since I'm a novice at HTML stuff, I hope one of you guys would be kind enough to help.

Right - I'd prefer it if it were in exactly the same format as above (same box, same size etc), I'd like it to say 'This user is a TVR enthusiast' in the right-hand box like it does in the above, and use [this image] as the picture on the left, same size preferably.

Cheers in advance, Abarthaddict 18:09, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

user:Aeon1006 has a bunch of these as subpages, you might want to ask him about it (there's a chance that these are discouraged in template-space). I've created it as a subpage of your user page.
This user is a TVR enthusiast.
