Congrats
[edit]Hi Fang. Congratulations on hitting 400 in the drive! It's been quite a slog. I hope there's not overtime if we tie, as I'm looking forward to focusing on something besides wikifying for a while. Cheers, Gobonobo T C 22:15, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
- Hey Gobonobo, worthy competitor! I'm also looking forward to doing something other than wikifying. Or, at least, just being more casual about it. Cheers, Fang Aili talk 22:19, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
Nice catch! Though it's definitely in the Arizona State Board of Charter Schools record, its listed location in FB (33rd Ave and Thomas) has no First Institutional Baptist Church, and the ASBCS record disappears into the mist. It's not in the ADE record either. Raymie (t • c) 19:34, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks! Thanks for the backup research, too. --Fang Aili talk 19:37, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
- Arizona high school research is what I specialize in, though that article was not of my creation. It's been about six months of this being my main WP specialty. Arizona now has the highest completion rate for high schools in the US based off of the WP:MEA lists (and I have lists with more future school articles to keep building). Raymie (t • c) 00:19, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
- Good for you re: completion rate! By the way, I've wikified a lot of school articles lately, so if you notice that I'm doing anything wrong (like formatting, templates, or whatever) please do let me know. --Fang Aili talk 02:28, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

What 'cleanup' do you think is needed exactly? It's a well-sourced stub with everything properly formatted as far as I can see.--Michig (talk) 08:34, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Bashir Harb article
[edit]I just want to know why my article has been deleted. He is the owner of one of the most influential trade printers in Canada according to PrintAction Magazine. He also installed the first web press at in Toronto. I can edit it if it sounded like an advertisement. Thanks Emmyray123 (talk) 15:38, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Emmyray123, it was deleted under criteria A7, "No indication of importance". Being a small business owner doesn't equal importance, unfortunately. See also Wikipedia:Notability (people). Please let me know if you have further questions. --Fang Aili talk 20:24, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
Do you mind taking a look at the above article and telling me what is warranted? mauchoeagle (c) 02:58, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm... almost looks like it was copy/pasted from.. Wikipedia(?). She's most likely a notable person, so no summary deletion. Requires a pile of cleanup tags, that's for sure. What do you think? --Fang Aili talk 20:33, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
- I have tagged it appropriately but do you mind taking another look to ensure that none of the tags were unnecessary. Also can you take a look at Tracy gaffney. mauchoeagle (c) 20:43, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
- The tags look fine. Tracy gaffney looks like vandalism to me. Speedy deleted appropriately. --Fang Aili talk 20:49, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

Seriously? None of the "references" evidence any shred of notability. The article just says the company exists - a clear A7. – ukexpat (talk) 13:36, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
- I generally don't speedy delete articles that aren't quite new, and in this case at least 3 editors in good standing edited the article in the past. That was enough of an indicator to me that the article may be worth saving. There's nothing lost in waiting 7 days for a prod to go through. --Fang Aili talk 20:09, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
- I don't mean to pick a fight with you, but I think this company is actually notable. I'm editing the article now. --Fang Aili talk 21:03, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
File:MI-icon.gif needs authorship information.
[edit]The media file you uploaded as File:MI-icon.gif appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.
It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.
Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided),authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).
If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which:{{subst:usernameexpand|Fang Aili}} will produce an appropriate expansion,

Hello dear Fang Aili: Maybe it would be possible for you to provide me with a copy of the deleted entry (Yehoshua Ya'akov) - which you removed on May 17th, as it deed not meet the criteria to a verifiable outside published source/reference? Unfortunately I did not save a copy of my post and did my editing on the screen directly. In the meantime I would like to add the references. If you have a copy of the deleted page then please send it to my e-mail which is hannah.porat@gmail.com. Alexander Merkurjev page
[edit]Hi, On 4 July 2007 you deleted the page Alexander Merkurjev, which is a pity because he is probably one of the top 10 mathematicians of the 20th (and 21st) century and certainely notable. (E.g. he won the Alexander-Humboldt award, was an invited speaker at the International congress of math. etc., also he does have a wiki-entry in the German wikipedia) Probably the entry was poorly written (I haven't seen it), but I would like to recreate it. Do you still have the deleted article?

Technology/starships of Babylon 5
[edit]I recall you saying you were working on a "List of starships of Babylon 5" article—or something to that effect—and wondered if I might take a look and help out. I actually have already slapped together a few things in my userspace, but there's a lot of contradictory or unclear information in some of these articles, and not being a Babylon 5 geek, I'm at a loss sometimes to tell what to keep and what to throw out. If you give me a shout, maybe we can throw a few things together and come up with something that would combine the unref'ed stubs and make Wikipedia proud. — Chromancer talk/cont 06:06, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Erica, I understand you are a figure skating enthusiast. Are you still active in those types of articles? Jcflnj (talk) 13:39, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hey! Well, yes, but my general WP activity has been very low lately. What did you have in mind? --Fang Aili talk 22:53, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
You originally gave the U.S. Figure Skating article a quality rating of "Start". I have been working on the article recently and was wondering if you might revisit the article and reevaluate the rating, possibly to C or B. I know I could do this myself, but I understand it is usually considered bad form to rate an article that one is working on. Thank you. Jcflnj (talk) 23:02, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

MSU Interview
[edit]Dear Fang Aili,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 19:17, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the review. I'll reply to issues shortly. As you mention it is your first, I think you did a pretty good job, but you forgot about one minor yet important issue: notifying the nominator (me). If I haven't check WP:POLAND Article Alerts, I could've missed the fact that the review was started, hold or not. Note that even if a page is watchlisted, there is no guarantee it will be noticed (I for example have over 3k items on my watchlist); further, transclusion is done by a bot, and I have the "ignore bot edits" option checked for my checklist. What I am getting at here, simply, is "for your future reviews, notify the nominators on their talk page". Just a learning tip. Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity
[edit]Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Naarah is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Naarah until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Ignatzmice•talk 13:06, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I’m contacting you because you are a participant in WikiProject Dance. Myself and another editor, User:Mwacha are interested in developing some notability guidelines on WikiProject Dance for dancers, dance critics, performers, and other genre articles as there is no such thing at the moment comparable to what I have heard other editors use for Visual Arts, IE “if they are collected in a major museum, then they are considered notable.” There are of course exceptions to this standard but it is nice to have a rule of thumb to help with AfD, and other moderated discussions. We hope to start this discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Dance under Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Dance#Notability Guidelines.OR drohowa (talk) 18:45, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Extended confirmed protection
[edit]Hello, Fang Aili. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.
Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.
In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
- Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
- A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:47, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins
[edit]Hello,
Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers
[edit]Hi Fang Aili.
A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.
It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.
If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

WikiProject Wikify: Current Backlog Reduction Plan
[edit]Hey, I noticed you marked yourself as a member of WikiProject Wikify and you are currently listed as active. I was wondering if you would be able to assist with our current backlog reduction plan. While traditional drives are more structured month-long sprints by WikiProject Wikify members, there is currently lacking activity within the project and in order to significantly reduce the incredible backlog, members are encouraged to review all articles marked with the Underlinked Template Message - {{underlinked}} - a list of which can be found here - to analyze the worthiness of the template message on the given article. Articles that have nothing to link or are have had wikilinks sufficiently added should have the template removed to clear the backlog and make it easier for editors to find articles in genuine need of wikification. This can be done by any editor; however, all editors should consider joining if they haven't done so already. Thank you!

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)
[edit]ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:AychaSawa1.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:AychaSawa1.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}

The article Yellow Dog Plains has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Invitation to participate in a research
[edit]Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,
