Why is the {{TV production}} navbox not showing as collapsed at the bottom of changing room, despite the above diff? — BillHPike (talk, contribs) 00:09, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@BillHPike: The template was ignoring the "state" parameter. I have fixed it. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:06, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Birthday question

[edit]

how do i put my self on jan 22 birthdays Abshalumov (talk) 01:37, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Abshalumov. Do not even try. You are not a notable person. Cullen328 (talk) 01:42, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
but i tried to be famous because i had a friend and my history is actually notable because i made my teachers in school happy and i was thinking to put my self on Wikipedia for a reason because i want to become notable because i became very proud of myself so renew my land mark with mead famous people born on jan 22 on my birthday and the notable productions that i own like friend I, friendsII, friendIII, and the one with edrick the only one single production i have is the perfecinal hug on march 15 2019. and i am very notable because my father told me to do a youtube channel but i refers to be famous on wikipedia i tried to be proud of my self. thank you Abshalumov (talk) 01:53, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Abshalumov, you are not a notable person, and you will not be allowed to try to promote yourself on Wikipedia. Please stop now or you will be blocked. Cullen328 (talk) 02:32, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Abshalumov: When we say that someone is "notable" on Wikipedia, we mean that independent, reliable sources of information (things like books and newspapers) have written a significant amount about them (this page gives a brief summary of the requirement). Even a lot of "famous" people aren't considered notable. You should also consider that having a Wikipedia article about yourself is not always a good thing.
My advice would be to focus on your personal pursuits, and maybe in the future if people write about you someone will create a Wikipedia article.

Just as the article Potassium, it is written by the following: Potassium is the chemical element with the symbol K and atomic number 19 (from Neo-Latin kalium).

[edit]

Make change to keep it natural like other elements. As title said, we must change as Potassium is a chemical element with the symbol K and atomic number 19 (from Neo-Latin kalium). 2001:EE0:4BC9:8D30:60A9:1F9F:C86:DCAF (talk) 11:28, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there. You should probably take this to the article's talk page and make an edit request there, as the article Potassium is semi-protected. 🛧Midori No Sora♪🛪 ( ☁=☁=✈) 11:35, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would like you to change them quickly. I have no privileges to edit. 2001:EE0:4BC9:8D30:60A9:1F9F:C86:DCAF (talk) 11:41, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have to time to leave a message request on the talk page. I'm sorry. 2001:EE0:4BC9:8D30:60A9:1F9F:C86:DCAF (talk) 11:44, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Keep it as noted below: Potassium is a chemical element with the symbol K (from Neo-Latin kalium) and atomic number 19. 2001:EE0:4BC9:8D30:60A9:1F9F:C86:DCAF (talk) 11:45, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just hope someone prompt that. 2001:EE0:4BC9:8D30:60A9:1F9F:C86:DCAF (talk) 11:48, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Excuse me, but what exactly are you trying to request here? I don't see any errors on the article heading and nothing looks wrong. 🛧Midori No Sora♪🛪 ( ☁=☁=✈) 11:55, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You should check the article Potassium versus Sodium as an evidence. 2001:EE0:4BC9:8D30:60A9:1F9F:C86:DCAF (talk) 12:07, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Midori No Sora: The IP wants "Potassium is the chemical element ..." changed to "Potassium is a chemical element ...". Deor (talk) 12:18, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Deor Ah, that section. Sorry didn't see it. Anyways, I don't have much interest about this topic so I'm not sure if this should be changed to the IP address's request or not. 🛧Midori No Sora♪🛪 ( ☁=☁=✈) 12:33, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This appears to be related to a previous topic from October 28. From what I can gather, the request is to change the first sentence from "...is the chemical element..." to "...is a chemical element...". To be honest, I don't know why the IP-address editor (editors? I'm guessing they are the same person but I can't be sure) is (are?) requesting this though. Anon126 (notify me of responses! / talk / contribs) 12:19, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I want it to be kept balanced among others. 2001:EE0:4BC9:8D30:60A9:1F9F:C86:DCAF (talk) 13:36, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think 'a chemical element' would be the best option to use. 2001:EE0:4BC9:8D30:60A9:1F9F:C86:DCAF (talk) 13:54, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
IP editor. Potassium is a specific member of a group (the elements), so in English the definite article, "the" is the most appropriate word. If any changes were warranted, they would be to sodium etc. which use "a", the indefinite article. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:10, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
.... and I've made that change to sodium. Our usage in the WP:LEAD of articles on the elements of the periodic table has a mixture of "a" and "the". I will attempt to gain consensus at WT:WikiProject Elements to use "the". You may comment there if you wish. Thanks for pointing out the inconsistency. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:22, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Then discuss it on the talk pages or at a relevant WikiProject like Wikipedia:WikiProject Elements. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 14:57, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Narresh22, you haven't published the article and is still a draft. I've also restored the AFC submission template which was deleted. There, please click the Resubmit button. A reviewer will get to it eventually but it will take a few days or possibly months. 🛧Midori No Sora♪🛪 ( ☁=☁=✈) 12:27, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Удаленная статья

[edit]

Добрый день, хотелось бы узнать конкретную причину удаления статьи компании "Краснодарский парень". https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Краснодарский_парень Krasnodarskyu paren (talk) 12:49, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Krasnodarskyu paren. This is the Help Desk for English Wikipedia. If you have any questions about English Wikipedia, you can ask them here but it would make it much easier for someone to help you if you ask them in English. If, on the other hand, you have questions about Russian Wikipedia, you should ask them at Russian Wikipedia. -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:55, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Vimal Nair Suresh update of the articles? Narresh22 (talk) 14:56, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Narresh22 You made some substantial additions to the draft and re-submitted it. It will in due course be reviewed again: there is currently a large backlog of drafts awaiting review. Please be patient. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:40, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Immediate publication

[edit]

How can I get my article published immediately? Lammoy (talk) 16:24, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This has already been answered at The Teahouse, the answer is you can't, your draft is merely a list of sources. Theroadislong (talk) 16:41, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I wrote an article on the topic and submitted it yesterday along with my sources/references so, I am truly at a loss. Lammoy (talk) 16:57, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Lammoy In this edit you inadvertently removed some characters which normally close a hidden comment. That had the effect of losing all the body text. Another editor fixed it. However, the article is still a bit of a mess. It is arguably WP:TLDR and needs to be properly cited. See WP:REFB. Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:22, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Reference help requested. Anyone want to figure out what I am doing incorrectly with ref 1 in Chloropentammineplatinum chloride? (Please do not reformat completely because the robots do not understand that this ref is treated as a journal.) --Smokefoot (talk) 17:21, 29 October 2023 (UTC) Thanks, Smokefoot (talk) 17:21, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Smokefoot Should be {{cite book}}. I've fixed it. Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:24, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Safe disposal of Bang Snaps / "TNT Pop-Its"

[edit]

Hello! I wanted to ask if another Wikipedia contributor would be willing to honor a small request of mine. I am casually familiar with editing other wikimedia style platforms but...This specific topic feels too small to warrant me getting into editing the "real" Wikipedia properly, and the articles potentially relating to it are about topics that exist far outside my personal areas of knowledge.

The request: On appropriate pages, such as the articles for Bang Snaps and/or the base chemical compounds that Bang Snaps are made of, would someone mind finding a way to refer people to "safe storage and disposal" instructions? A link to another page is totally fine, but the goal is to help find "specific" instructions for an everyday, less chemically-knowledgeable person who wants to dispose of products that fit this description.

If useful, here are more details about the problem that prompted my request:

  1. I personally don't know "enough" about chemistry to know how I can find the right information to help myself (e.g. I know how to bake, but I didn't take the chemistry class offered to me in high school because it was optional).
  2. I want to understand how to store/dispose of these products safely, so that I can dispose of a few unopened boxes of "TNT Pop Its" (also known as Bang Snaps) that I bought from a grocery store earlier this year.
  3. I want to do this because I know that "TNT Pop-its" aka. Bang Snaps are considered "firework products" and I personally know "just enough" about firework products to know that you can accidentally endanger people, belongings, structures, etc if the firework products are not stored and/or disposed of "correctly."
  4. It took me a good 15 minutes of internet searching before I eventually found the wikipedia articles for "Bang Snaps" and "Silver fulminate." While reading these articles, I still didn't find the answer to my question, because neither one of these articles currently has "clearly labeled" information for "how plausibly safe" these substances are, or how a non-chemist person could go about safely storing/disposing of them.

Thanks again in advance. 50.47.228.205 (talk) 20:54, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, IP user. I'm afraid that such information would not be appropriate for Wikipedia: see WP:NOTHOWTO. I appreciate that your request is motivated by a concern for people's safety, but it comes under the same sort of area as WP:NOTCENSORED. ColinFine (talk) 22:08, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Enh. It's in-scope, if sourced and appropriately phrased - see, for example, Electric battery#Hazards and #Legislation and regulation, or Polychlorinated biphenyl#Methods of destruction. I didn't find any usable sources in a quick google, though. Maybe someone at WP:Reference desk/Science could do better.
Anyway, unless the boxes are a great deal larger than the 50-snap boxes I remember buying [mumble] years ago, it should've taken a good deal less than those 15 minutes of searching to just detonate them on the ground five or ten at a time and then sweep up the residual paper. —Cryptic 22:35, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there! You might want to ask your question at the article's talk page: Talk:Bang snaps. GoingBatty (talk) 23:00, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
According to Bang snaps, each one contains about 2 milligrams of silver fulminate and some "fine gravel" (my memory of them from 40 years ago says fine sand). I'd dispose of them as GoingBatty recommends. Maproom (talk) 07:40, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies — it was Cryptic who recommended a disposal method. Maproom (talk) 08:13, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

title capitolization

[edit]

hi. how do i chaage the title of my draft to add capitolization to a couple words? Chuckeholm (talk) 21:57, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The direct answer to your question is that you change the title of a page by using the MOVE function; but your account is too new to have access to that yet.
The operative answer is that there is no point in worrying about the correct title of a draft, because when you submit it for review, the accepting reviewer will sort out the correct title.
The answer to the question you didn't ask is that you are writing your draft Draft:Nixon's phoenix after nam BACKWARDS, which turns a challenging task (writing a Wikipedia article) into an almost impossible one. Your first article will tell you that you first find your reliable independent sources that will establish that the subject of the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability (if it doesn't you should give up at that stage); then you start writing a summary of what those sources say.
I suspect that what you have written so far is already to be found in one or more of our existing articles, but I haven't read it carefully, and I am not superfamiliar with the context. It is certainly not written in the dry, neutral tone required of an encyclopaedia article. ColinFine (talk) 22:19, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
thanks. i'll continue trudging on and hope thr reviewers sort the title out. Chuckeholm Chuckeholm (talk) 22:37, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Chuckeholm, you seem oddly intent on wasting more of your time, and you seem to hope that other people will waste their time on what you have done. If you want to write an essay about Nixon, please do so on some other website. -- Hoary (talk) 23:25, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is just a "life note", but the spelling of that word is "capitalization" (the state or act of whether something is a capital letter--outside the US it's typically spelled capitalisation). As far as I know, "capitolization" isn't a word, but I imagine if it was, it would mean something like "turning a normal building into a capitol building". This has little to do with your actual question but felt like a piece of advice worth giving nonetheless. - Purplewowies (talk) 14:00, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
