[edit]Order of the Double Dragon
[edit]someone keeps removing Consul General Thomas Adamson.. the original details were lost and I would have to now research this again and find the information to add it back to wikipedia.. someone removed it purposely I am sure.. the slander against this surname is well documented.. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.181.245.59 (talk) 03:12, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- That name appears to have first been added in 2012 with this edit. As far as I can see it has never been sourced. If I've missed it you can use the page history to recover deleted information from any previous version. Otherwise, to be included two things need to happen: a) Thomas Adamson needs to have his own article written, as we normally only include notable people in lists like this, and the current link is to a disambiguation page that doesn't mention this particular Adamson; and b) his a link to his article needs to be added with a citation that verifies his having this decoration. I have no idea what you mean about slander about the Adamson name. Rojomoke (talk) 04:06, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
so the New York Times doesn't count ? ... No wonder people talk about you guys rewriting history.
Where is the credential upload link?
[edit]Can anyone please point out the credential upload link. Also can anyone explain what credentials are needed for which task? CuratorGuy (talk) 06:35, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- @CuratorGuy: If you are asking about editing Wikipedia, no credentials are needed for editing Wikipedia: Almost anyone can edit most articles. There are a few pages you can't edit until your account is four days old and you have made 10 edits. Is that the kind of thing you wanted to know? —teb728 t c 06:53, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

New International School
[edit]Dear Sir / Madam,
We are a new international school in Banting, Selangor, Malaysia, and I attempted to add us to a few relevant lists but after a couple, it says it appears that I'm spamming and I may be blacklisted if I persist.
Could you please tell me whether this is appropriate or inappropriate (spamming) behaviour on Wikipedia? The first link I posted may be seen here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_schools_in_Kuala_Lumpur#International_Schools - under "Victoria International School".
Thanks so much for your prompt reply to info at victoria.edu.my. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:E68:4425:4DF4:7DB7:F4F6:DE93:551A (talk) 08:51, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- Wikipedia may not be used for Promotion of any kind (whether commercial, charitable, educational or anything else). Wikipedia is only interested in topics which have already been written about, in some depth, by people unconnected with the topic, published in reliable places. Wikipedia is not interested in what anybody (or any organisation), or their friends, relative, employees or associates say about them: it is only interested in what people unconnected with a subject have already published about the subject. --ColinFine (talk) 10:32, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
Javad Marandi
[edit]Hello, my name is Bennett Golder, and I work at PR agency Weber Shandwick on behalf of Javad Marandi. I've been working for a few weeks to get some factual inaccuracies removed from his page and have previously reached out via his Talk Page, the BLP Noticeboard, and I've contacted the OTRS. The OTRS directed me to the Help page and suggested that I make a request here. I thought this was largely for Wikipedia usage queries, but the OTRS volunteer advised me that a larger group of volunteers staff this page and it could be a useful resource. Specifically the edits I am requesting are:
1. After legal action, the Guardian Media Group has decided to remove articles in the Guardian/Observer which are citations 4 and 6 on Javad's Wikipedia entry. Owing to the fact that these articles have been removed and the publisher refuses to stand by their content, I do not believe they constitute verifiable third-party sources and in the interest of honest and accuracy, references to these citations should be removed from his page. You can see the removed article here: http://www.theguardian.com/news/2016/apr/09/tory-donor-was-trusted-middleman-for-oil-firm-involved-in-bribes-inquiry.
2. Additionally, Director Magazine has made corrections to their article about business in Azerbaijan to accurately reflect Javad's business interests. Specifically, he is not an owner of Pasha Construction (the 'construction company' mentioned in his Wikipedia article), but rather he is an adviser. Additionally Chinar is actually a restaurant in Baku, and Javad Marandi does not own it. We feel this sentence should be altered to more accurately reflect the content within the cited article: "Marandi owns a company in Azerbaijan called Chinar, the country's "largest distribution business" and a construction company.[3]" A more accurate statement would be: "Marandi owns the country's largest distribution business and is an adviser to a construction firm." The Director Magazine article is citation 3 on Javad's Wikipedia page and you can find it here: http://www.director.co.uk/9071-doing-business-in-azerbaijan/. If you look through the article, you’ll see what nowhere does it corroborate the information contained within Javad Marandi’s Wikipedia page.
I hope you'll agree that these edits are merely trying to correct misinformation and are not embellishing or editorialising - which is obviously in Javad's interest but also in the interest of the Wikipedia community. Owing to my conflict of interest, I'm unable to make these edits myself and therefore reaching out to the community of Wikipedia editors to help. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch here for via my Talk page. Thanks! Btgolder (talk) 10:20, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- I see that the requesting party has posted a request on Talk:Javad Marandi. I would like to thank the requesting party for complying with Wikipedia's conflict of interest rules by not making the edits themselves. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:22, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- I would also like to thank Javad Marandi himself, for employing a competent and honest agent to act for him. Maproom (talk) 16:35, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you very much Robert McClenon and Maproom - very kind of you to say! If either of you (or any editors you know) might be willing to look into this, I'd be very grateful. I think you'll find once you look into it that the requests are pretty uncontroversial - we're simply asking to remove references to an article that the publisher has removed from the web and that a sentence accurately reflects the information contained within the third-party source that is referencing. I've posted on his Talk Page, the BLP Noticeboard and emailed the OTRS so far, but no luck. Btgolder (talk) 08:54, 18 May 2016 (UTC)

Hello,
I would like ot note an inaccuracy in the article on The World's 50 Best Restaurants (The World's 50 Best Restaurants), it started from Restaurant Magazine but is now produced in its own capacity. If you could please adjust the copy to reflect this, that would be great.
Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.240.51.100 (talk) 11:27, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- Hello, IP user. If you have a published reference for this information, you are welcome to edit the article yourself. Alternatively, the best place to make the comment is the article's talk page, Talk:The World's 50 Best Restaurants. --ColinFine (talk) 14:47, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
Portal 2000s is facing a major problem
[edit]Hello. I would like to point out that the 2000s portal isn't displaying properly, and I can't fix it. It's not easy to access the portal with it displaying inncorectly. Could some help out? Thanks. Redolta (talk) 13:04, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- This diff appears to be the last one that displayed correctly. I'd revert back to that one and go on from there. --Jayron32 14:55, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- @Redolta: It displayed properly for me some times and not others. I tracked it down to Portal:2000s/DYK/Footer which is only used when the randomly selected DYK exists like Portal:2000s/DYK/3. I fixed some incomplete table code [1] and now it works for me each time. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:03, 18 May 2016 (UTC)

They specialize in knowledge questions and will try to answer any question in the universe (except how to use Wikipedia, since that is what this Help Desk is for). Just follow the link and ask away. You could always try searching Wikipedia for an article related to the topic you want to know more about. I hope this helps.— crh 23 (Talk) 17:56, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

Wiki Ed - unable to connect
[edit]Hello, I am unable to connect to Wiki Education. I am getting a DNS not found message and so are my students. I have tried the course enrollment link and the basic link. I am on a PC and tried both Chrome and IE. Because my student reported this from a remote location and I was able to recreate the problem, I suspect the site is down. Can anyone confirm that or give me any further advice? Thanks, BethJaneToren (talk) 17:02, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- https://wikiedu.org/ is working. Is that the "Wiki Education" you want to connect to? Maproom (talk) 17:17, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
This is working now. Something was down and all is well. Thanks for you response tho! Best, Beth BethJaneToren (talk) 21:26, 24 May 2016 (UTC)
changing the article name
[edit]Hi. Sagar S is an Indian music composer. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sagar_S_(Kannada_music_director) This is the link to the page. Sagar S (music director) was how it was named earlier. But now it has been changed to Sagar S (Kannada music director). Kannada is an Indian language. Now, the issue is Sagar S has worked in more than 5 Indian languages. Calling him a Kannada music director doesn't seem right in anyway. When checked, there are absolutely no other articles in this name (a reason given when the article's name was changed). So can the page be changed to either Sagar S (Indian music director) or Sagar S (music director). How can that be done? Prakashlyrics (talk) 17:08, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- I thought this was discussed weeks ago and it was determined that it should be at simply Sagar S because no disambiguation is needed. Dismas|(talk) 17:11, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- Moved from WT:HD — crh 23 (Talk) 17:54, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
@ Dismas and crh 23
Thanks a lot. So that means, it will be Sagar S only and No Kannada music director or Indian music director will be added? So how would the change happen? Do I need to do something about it or you would handle it?
Prakashlyrics (talk) 18:49, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- Sagar S already exists as a re-direct. Eagleash (talk) 19:13, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- @Eagleash: Thanks a lot. I am sorry for being a trouble. I have another question. When you open the page, it still says 'Kannada Music Director' in brackets which I feel is not right. Would that be removed? Is there something that could be done to remove that or just replace that with 'Indian Music Director'? Prakashlyrics (talk) 19:20, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- The fact that a re-direct already exists makes it slightly more complicated when it comes to moving (changing the name) the page to that name. It can require Admin. assistance but I believe it is possible without. But I'm not sufficiently au fait with the procedure or I would have moved it when this was last discussed. Eagleash (talk) 19:25, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- @Eagleash and Prakashlyrics: The redirect has a non trivial (more than one line) page history, so it does indeed require an admin to delete (see WP:MOR). I have tagged it for speedy deletion with {{db-move}}, so an admin should delete it and move the page soon — crh 23 (Talk) 20:03, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- @Crh23:. Thanks. Eagleash (talk) 20:08, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- Now that Sagar S was deleted, I've moved it to that location. For your edification, the place to request these types of moves is WP:RM. Dismas|(talk) 23:30, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

Stitching edit histories
[edit]I wanted to move Crawford Educational Complex to its current name, Will C. Crawford High School. However it's occupied by this edit history. The edit history of "Crawford Educational Complex" is also long. Should these two have their edit histories merged? And if so how do I do it? WhisperToMe (talk) 20:32, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- @WhisperToMe: a good way to do it is to use requested moves. If you are sure the move would be uncontroversial, list it as a technical request. It is possible that you could get the target page deleted under G6, but I am not certain as it has a looks like it was merged into the new article. It has a substantial history, some of which may be acting as attribution for the new page. — crh 23 (Talk) 09:54, 18 May 2016 (UTC)
- I will deal with it. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:07, 18 May 2016 (UTC)
- "Will C. Crawford High School" was merged to "Crawford Educational Complex" in 2013 without attribution. The page histories were overlapping before the merge and would be a mess on the same page. I moved "Will C. Crawford High School" to Crawford High School (San Diego) to preserve the page history separately, and then moved Crawford Educational Complex to Will C. Crawford High School. For attribution I noted the 2013 merge in an edit summary [2], and on the talk page [3] with {{Merged-from}}. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:34, 18 May 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you so much :) WhisperToMe (talk) 11:22, 18 May 2016 (UTC)
