This topic comprises the Sega Genesis, its two add ons, the list of games for all three, and its other related articles. The topic was previously brought up in the Featured Topic Questions for views on its completeness. It was Sega's most successful console, we're coming up on its 25th Anniversary in August, and a movie about its war with the Super NES is reported to be in production by Sony Pictures. Thanks to all who take the time to review the topic.--SexyKick02:35, 13 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Comment - SexyKick, I really wished you'd have waited until I had Sega CD through FAC; I've almost got it lined up and ready to go. That being said, it's already at GA and everything else is pretty intact, so I wouldn't object to this nomination running. Red Phoenixlet's talk...03:18, 13 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I would not include them as they are not about the system per se (i.e. peripherals, add-ons, and other forms of hardware), but this is not my party. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 06:53, 13 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This is part of what was covered in the Featured Topic Questions. Adding those topics equates to NES / SNES / Xbox topics having to include Mario or Master Chief / Halo. It was decided this didn't make sense. I concur with Crisco, and to answer Tezero, I feel it's safe to say that idea was abandoned.--SexyKick15:31, 13 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm implying nothing here because I was not even consulted directly before this FTC was initiated. Honestly, I would have preferred to wait a little longer, and Sonic is still a future project of mine. Red Phoenixlet's talk...17:55, 13 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I personally think Sonic the Hedgehog should go in. It was the killer app that made the Genesis successful, and was (eventually) bundled with the system. Its importance is too great to be ignored here. Ritchie333(talk)(cont)08:02, 13 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Neutral I think a topic on Wii should include the game that was bundled with, so if Sonic got bundled with this console, it should also be included. Since it was not included from the start, I don't see it a notable reason to oppose the topic without Sonic, but I think some people would give a stronger support with the character. The problem with including an article on the game is that, we would then have to include the rest of the games, as the scope of the topic has expanded. The article on the character, as said by another editor in the Questions, veers far enough away from the topic, that it becomes off topic. I felt like the question about Sonic included yes/no was behind us since that was a largely covered aspect of bringing this to the Featured Topic Questions, and ProjectVideoGames first - and certainly the majority of editors who weighed in seemed against its inclusion as it leaves the core topic.--SexyKick22:54, 13 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Support It looks like everything is covered appropriately, including all the hardware and software peripherals, all the games as a whole, ect. Personally, I don't think Sonic should be covered, even if he is a flagship character for the console. Characters and individual games just don't fit into this topic. Comment Specific games shouldn't be included at all, regardless if they were launch titles, characters from the franchise is a bit trickier, but in the case of a console I don't think need to be included. For completeness I suggest that Sega v. Accolade be included as this court case was linked specifically to this console, it's also a Featured Article so this wouldn't hamper the course of completeness in any way. I'd also be tempted to include Videogame Rating Council in the topic as well, due to it was the classification system used specifically for the games appearing on this console and its peripheries (as well as the handheld from the same generation). Opinions? --Lightlowemon (talk) 09:23, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
When we brought this up at Video Games GamePro64 and PresN told us that Sega v. Accolade seemed out of the scope, and VRC does somewhat compare to that. Since right now we have the Overview article, Add-ons and hardware, lists of Software, and the Services for the system, the category these two you have suggested would wind up in something like "Politics surrounding the system". Which is why I think GamePro64 and PresN were against their inclusion.--SexyKick15:53, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Closed with a consensus to promote to Featured Topic. If any issues on has on it being promoted as it is, one can take it for an FTRC. - GamerPro6418:07, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
