Malaysian Radio articles

Hello Zunaid!

Thank you very much for your welcome and tips. I notice you made some changes to the Malaysian Radio articles I started, many thanks for that and please bear with me while I get used to the ways of editing and adding around Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hafiziaz (talkcontribs)

Thank you again. :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hafiziaz (talkcontribs)

DyslexicEditor

You've been following me around. I made a typo and wikipedia is lagging. I'm trying to make refers to the article about Robin Hood Men in Tights movie because the search feature is having trouble finding articles. DyslexicEditor 14:52, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

  • Sorry, I immediately thought you were like most wikipedians I've seen. But wikipedia's lag declined and so I could load the page and see you didn't follow around all my contributions, just those. Yeah, I lost the page I wanted to make the refers to due to a windows clipboard problem and I know it must look really messed in the recent changes page. DyslexicEditor 14:58, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

Metaphysics

Greetings, could you explain why you tagged a page I was working on as having possible copyright violations? The page is now User:David Pierce/Metaphysics, because somebody else noticed that it was wrongly placed under David Pierce. Was there some other problem? Please respond at User talk:David Pierce/Metaphysics.

Captain Proton

Hi. you've added a vandalism warning on my talk page. the thing is, you've sent it the wrong guy; please see my talk page. -- Captain Proton 15:10, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

Use Talk:Alex McDowell to explain your reasons or remove the tag. Have a nice day. +MATIA 13:51, 24 November 2005 (UTC)

  • According to that notice you have added in too many articles, you are supposed to comment the adding of the speedy-del-tag at the relevant talk page. +MATIA 14:24, 24 November 2005 (UTC)

I removed the speedy delete tags from the minor characters from the novels of Robert Jordan. Being a minor character is not a category for speedy deletion (See WP:CSD). You shoud iether merge them somewhere and change them to redirects, or take them to AFD. --GraemeL (talk) 14:05, 24 November 2005 (UTC)

If they were real people they'd be db-bio'd in a jiffy. I'll suggest some sort of merge/listing with the creator of these articles. Alternatively, can one do a blanket nomination for all these character articles on AFD? Zunaid 14:10, 24 November 2005 (UTC)
I don't disagree, they just don't fit within CSD policy. Submitting multiple articles in a single AFD is somewhat complicated, so be careful. The process is this:
  1. On the 1st article, do {{subst:afd}}
  2. Click on the red link to take you to the AFD page for the article and do {{subst:afd2 | pg=PageName | text=Reason why the page should be deleted}} ~~~~
  3. On the rest of the articles, do {{subst:afd}} and save, then edit the result and change the link to point to the page created in step 2.
  4. Edit the page created in step 2 to include links to all of the articles that you are including.
  5. Add the entry to todays AFD page with {{subst:afd3 | pg=PageName}} as usual.

A stub will not be a fully fleshed out article. It might be better to give the thing a chance rather than moving it in haste. I feel no motivation now to continue with any contributions to bicycle subjects. Metarhyme 12:26, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

  • Wheelbuilding involves a lot of discrete parts. After stubs for the parts are filled out it might be appropriate to put it all in a larger article, or it might not. You stepped on something that had just sprouted. No more bike outta me.

I'm wondering why you edited out the content I added to the Mazda RX-8 article. User:Fazul

Pyramid non-discussion

Well done. You got your way, regardless of revisions that were made to bring it into line as part of a process. Enjoy your once again imbalanced website, won't you, and never let the aim of neutrality get in the way of your version of NPOV.--Genesis 13:12, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

that you couldn't edit it, partly because you were unaware of the subject matter, is a matter of your ability as an editor, rather than just the quality of the article. I am an editor. It's not that hard. Yes it needed work. Very few articles on these pages don't. That it wasn't done within a week was first because i was spending most of what little time I had to work on it defending its right to exist. Second, I had started to bring it into line, but i quit the effort when it became perfectly clear that further development and revision of the page wasn't about to change its doomed destiny. I had tried, had begun adding citation and removed the areas which suggested author's opinion, but it didn't matter. When you started to make random statements about dating rock and how that didn't make sense, it only served to compound the decision, once again in the face of the facts. You made argument on points on which you were outright incorrect, and your assertions were eroneously taken as fact.
I should make this clear. This isn't a personal vendetta against you. This is a matter against those who don't know a subject choosing to make sweeping editorial judgements. Where text is inpenetrable it can be rephrased and reworked; for this a lay person's eye is often key. Making judgements on the validity of the content, however, is something that the lay person should avoid. This is why there should be a 'warning' period before a deletion period, to give ample time to bring the article up to scratch. I'm unlikely to waste my time again, so it is unlikely that the article will ever be written; the voice of the alternative theories is defeated. Personally, I think that's a shame. --Genesis 09:53, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

AfD DEBATE

If you want to contact me regarding an AfD debate I have taken part in, or that you want to inform me about, please leave a message here.

hi, there is an organized campaign to save the above self-promotional vanity games-club page from deletion.... i'm wondering if you'd be willing to take a look and voice your opinion? normally i wouldnt care but (a) i hate organized campaigns from groups of users (especially when they have vested interests but dont declare them) and (b) when challenged about it, they suggested i try it myself! so here i am.... cheers! Could perhaps consider Werdna648's point and change your vote to redirect to the list of filename extensions. - Mgm|(talk) 09:30, 22 December 2005 (UTC)

  • Voting delete, makes people think you are opposed to keeping the material at all, and thus oppose a merge. Please explicitly mention it in your vote if you're not opposed to merging so the closing admin can take it into account. - Mgm|(talk) 09:45, 22 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed you voted to on the abovementioned article. Initialy I wanted to keep it, but when I compared it to Nigritude ultramarine and Seraphim proudleduck it seems obvious that all theese articles are repating the same info:

  • It's a search contest
  • It has begin/end dates
  • It has a prize
  • It uses a unique phrase that is not used before

I'd like to urge you to change your vote to Redirect to SEO Contest where I have created already made a copy of the article. This way they dont have "their own article" but they are mentioned in the encyclopedia. Seems like a compromise to me. Right now w/ all the Delete, Keep, And Redirect votes it will be hard to reach a compromise. This user has left wikipedia 22:14, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi, you've tagged this article to be speedied. I understand your concerns, but he does seem to be a recording artist of some note (perhaps not in a field you're familiar with and certainly not one I know much about). This would seem to indicate a level of notability. Perhaps you'd reconsider the tag and tag it for cleanup instead? James James 13:34, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Actually, I've cleaned the article into a reasonable stub and canned the tag myself.

Also I can't see any suggestion on User talk:Secfan that you discussed deleting this article with the editor who created it. Secfan is an editor in good faith and it's extremely discourteous to tag an article he's created for speedying without notifying him or making any attempt to discuss it. Unless an article is absolute garbage created by an anon, can I suggest that you approach the creator (and anyone else who has done serious work on it) to let them know that you've decided it should be deleted? James James 13:45, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi Zunaid, you've marked Teenage wildlife forum for deletion - Verifiable third-party sources that demonstrate its notability have now been added to the External links section.

Fegchanges 02:35, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

On-camera talent on notable television network, IMDB listing of about a dozen roles in notable films. So obviously meets notability criteria that debate shouldn't be necessary. Applying the "professor test" (which isn't a real Wikipedia policy or guideline) is usually a circular argument; saying an article doesn't show the subject is more notable than anyone else with the same credentials avoids the argument that the credentials themselves assert/demonstrate notability. Monicasdude 15:49, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

If your only argument is the "vote" tally, you don't have an argument. AfD isn't a vote. It's a discussion. If you get agreement from some or all of those who were in favour of keeping that the article should be deleted, you're always free to renominate -- or wait a few weeks. Johnleemk | Talk 15:56, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Then we'll have to agree to disagree. If you feel really strongly, I suppose you could take it WP:DRV for third-party views, even though I don't really approve of using a "deletion review" page to review a decision to keep. Johnleemk | Talk 17:03, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Wheel of Time wiki

I realize you said not to try to profile you, so forgive me if this seems out of line, but I couldn't help noticing all of your cleanup efforts on WoT-related articles of late.

You may want to consider lending your expertise to A Wheel of Time wiki, in aid of the new project, and avoiding cruft here on WP. Thanks! nae'blis (talk) 18:58, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

Stubs are beginnings

On the Little Boxes entry, I plan to add more content that is quite tangential to Malvina Reynolds, with a series of places where it is referred to in pop culture, once my back pain alleviates and I can think clearly enough to write clearly enough. ArtsygeekArtsygeek 07:41, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

French Huguenot surnames of Afrikaans individuals.

Hi Zunaid-

I just read your message concerning the fact that I have recently added information in articles about the French Huguenot progenitors of a number of Afrikaans individuals. The point is no so much about the name itself but to point out the fact that the individuals in question are direct descendents of French Huguenots.

I think it is important to point out the origins of those Afrikaans names of French Huguenot origin as a number of them are not spelled in the original French manner. I have read the entire book in question (Ces Francais Qui Ont Fait L'Afrique Du Sud) which includes pages of information noting the first French Huguenot ancestors of the Afrikaners & the manner in which some of those names are spelled today ie: some acquired Dutch spelling. What I am really trying to do is to point out the fact that the people in question are direct descendents of French Huguenots & post the names of the ancestors. This is rather relevant.

The surnames of a great number of Afrikaans people goes back to an original French Huguenot ancestor who arrived in the Cape shortly after the Dutch. This is the main point. Pointing out the progenitor of the individual's name in the region is important especially when they are from such a distinct background & spoke a different language than the first settlers of the region. Most people in the west tend to erroneously presume that Afrikaans people are descended from just Dutch people while overlooking the fact that most are not due to the large numbers of French & German arrivals. Therefore I think it is relevant to include information pertaining to the progenitors of the French names (& perhaps German names though I am more knowledgeable on the French origins) of the Afrikaans surnames in the articles concerning the various individuals in question.

When reading up on Piet Joubert for example: I think it is relevant & important to mention the fact that he is a direct descendent of Pierre Joubert who was from Provence France. When reading up on Francois Pienaar (whose both names are French) I think it is relevant to mention the fact that his name is derived from Pinard & who his original French ancestor was. When reading up on anyone with the Viljoen name: I think it is rather important to mention that it is derived from Francois Villion who was the first French Huguenot ancestor to arrive at the Cape in 1671. When reading up on F W De Klerk I think it is important to mention the fact that his name is derived from Le Clerc. -which is common here in Quebec. I was inspired to contribute this information concerning these individuals in part from learning long ago that the famous American Revulotionary patriot Paul Revere was descended from a French Huguenot named Apollos Rivoire which is mentioned in the very article on him in this encyclopedia as a matter of fact.

Furthermore: considering that the Boer & Afrikaner people have a high percentage of French ancestry with numerous French first names as well as surnames: I thought that this interesting fact should be included in the articles of those who are the direct descendents of French Huguenots. I did not think that this was the least bit controversial.
