Christian Happi moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Christian Happi, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:27, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I am Diannaa and I am a Wikipedia administrator. Prose you find online is almost always copyright, and cannot be copied here; it's against the copyright policy of this website to do so. All prose must be written in your own words. The Wikipedia copyright policy and its application are complex matters, and you should not edit any more until you have taken the time to read and understand our copyright policy. There's a simplified version of our copyright rules at Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright. Further copyright issues will result in you being blocked from editing. — Diannaa (talk) 15:56, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Ibilola Amao, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Speedy deletion nomination of Yinka Ogunde

Hello Zend2020,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Yinka Ogunde for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Thank you for the notification be kind to look at the article as it has been improved. Also the issues raised of conflict of interest I have prove of none, an exchange of correspondence ie email where contributor requests photo and more information and is asked as why contributor wants to put up a profile all that if required can be brought. Then the question of neutrality evidence backing up everything mentioned is gotten from external sources. Contributor takes issues raised seriously and almost personal as an attack on credibility and is willing to be part off discussion to thrash it out.Thank you--Zend2020 (talk) 04:49, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Control copyright icon Hello Zend2020! While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. All other images must be made available under a free and open license that allows commercial and derivative reuse to be used on Wikipedia.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Asartea Talk | Contribs 09:16, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Politanvm. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to Lagos Bus Rapid Transit System seemed less than neutral and has been removed. If you think this was a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. POLITANVM talk 03:24, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How so less than neutral? .--Zend2020 (talk) 04:16, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
These edits specifically read like marketing/promotion rather than an encyclopedia. Also, some of the text was copied directly from the source, which may be a copyright violation (see WP:COPYVIO). There’s also no need to describe the concept of BRT in-depth on that page, because readers can visit bus rapid transit to learn more. POLITANVM talk 13:45, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Zend2020, please also remember to use references instead of external links (see Help:Referencing for beginners) POLITANVM talk 03:55, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Why so please? ie preference of references over external links
There are a lot of reasons inline citations are better than unlabeled external links. A few would be:
  1. It automatically populates the reference section at the end of the article
  2. References can easily be reused throughout the article
  3. It lets the reader see what the reference is without having to visit the external website
  4. External links are generally discouraged in the body of an article (See WP:ELPOINTS)
  5. And several more, but that’s just off the top of my head.
Thankfully, with the Visual Editor, it’s very easy to convert an external link to a reference. By clicking the “Cite” button, you can enter the URL and automatically generate a reference (see tutorial). I see you’ve used references a few times (in this edit), but let me know if you have any other questions. Best, POLITANVM talk 13:45, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I publishedit along with everything in my sandbox including those I was not done with . It can be verifed you'll notice there is no flow and continuity and for want of words its nonsense with different topics that is because I had no intention to publish . I did not know how to undo the action so it was assumed to be an article though I reached for help .You can check logs to verify it,I also reached explaining to the user who tagged it my predicament and what to do to reverse.

@Bbb23: :Could you be kind to explain how you arrived at your conclusion for the ban and also the speed of the block which i discovered is not within Wikipedia policy as you gave me no room for a right to respond --Zend2020 (talk) 02:33, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, your unblock request is a reflection of your edits. Your English skills are just not good enough to edit Wikipedia. Wikipedia requires competence to edit, and that means sufficient language skills, including syntax and punctuation. In some of your edits, your English is so bad that the meaning of what you're trying to say is lost. With other edits, other users would have to follow you around and correct all your edits. I started undoing your recent edits and became tired of examining them because each, to different degrees, was grammatically problematic.
Your first edit was on October 3, 2020. Since then, you have made 485 live edits (385 to mainspace) and 157 deleted ones. Many of the articles you've created have been deleted. One had to have many edits deleted for copyright infringement and was deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cynthia Mosunmola Umoru. Another was deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Orode Doherty, and the promotional nature of the article was noted by the participants. Yinka Ogunde was deleted per WP:G11. I deleted Kaduna International Film Festival per WP:A3. I deleted your sandbox per WP:G11.
Draft:Edobong Enobong Akpabio is an example of a draft that has not been deleted. The first part of it (about Akpabio) is promotional ("She has developed the knowledge, interest and passion, over the past 30 years, in human resources management, business consulting, entrepreneurship and the zeal to help entrepreneurs grow their business successfully."). The further below after excrutiating resume detail, you switch to another person completely, even though I believe you have a separate draft about the other person.
Sope Willams Elegbe is an article you created that has somehow survived deletion. Despite others working on it, it is still a very poor quality article. It has your usual English errors. Much of it is unsourced. It has embedded links in the body. Parts of it are promotional in tone. You added an image to the article, that was removed as a copyright violation.
In sum, even without any malicious intent, I don't believe you are an asset to this project, which is why I blocked you. BTW, warnings are not required.--Bbb23 (talk) 12:45, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Bbb23:: I am a bit lost here as per that my English skills found wanting being my first language , I used it in learning through school and passed Cambridge exams. I also have an undergraduate degree validated by the University of Cambridge. It seems all my edits on this project (Wikipedia) are considered deplorable I have however ,edited on other projects like WikiVoyage where I made mistakes on format i was duly corrected and directed on how to edit there which i complied and got an award (a compass)for my work. I am relatively new here, not one year old and the likelihood of some confusion is expected in a new environment till it is mastered . 8 out of 10 people editing for the first time will probably have experienced same. I start by addressing the articles mentioned in the order you have stated them. Orode Doherty was deleted because it was termed as not notable which i did not contend as little or nothing could be found to support the content except primary links. This could be because supporting citations or references could not be traced may be because web pages and news may have been brought down as it was a long time a go. Mosunmola Umoru which I just discovered was deleted, was in contention of deletion because they felt she was not notable which i thought had been resolved because I explained why i feel she passed the test I explained saying she is female, a large scale farmer who had impacted communities and lives with agriculture.Won awards distinguished herself as a first in many categories. No mention of copyright, except when i was told of substantial similarity to content from a site I cited and it was removed and I, told to improve. Yinka Ogunde was deleted because they found article promotional and it did not have enough secondary citations .The content I put is what I researched online and just as reviewer said my tone was unacceptable. Then Edobong Enobong Akpabio and everything that came with that if you investigated it you will discover was an error from my sandbox as I was trying to push Olori Olokun to mainspace and mistakenly pushed everything in my sandbox .It was tagged and i explained it was an error that how would I undo it, I reached for help on how to undo which nobody responded to . Sope Willams Elegbe somehow survived deletion using your words for the simple reason that when it was tagged and improvements I should make pointed out or was at a risk of been deleted i did what was instructed .The picture I obtained necessary permission from the Prof and she wrote the required mail which i can produce as i was bcc when it was sent to Commons so frankly i am surprised that it is said in violation of copyright . The picture was removed because it was the wrong format a thumbnail according to tag i saw as against an image link which I corrected .Sope Willams Elegbe had credible sources which included Google Scholar. What you are seeing were the articles that were underdeveloped in my Sandbox that i published in error when trying to move Ori olokun to mainspace not real articles you could cross check to verify All these done in WikiGap contest to bridge the gap on visibility for women , deletions confirming the issue raised on why articles of women are given extra scrutiny for notability as against men even when there is enough to support the article. Volunteering is a great thing and paying forward heartwarming , I have done on this are with my resources as internet is expensive here ,losing sleep most of the time with a good conscience (most of the i edit in the middle of the night eg it was at 1 a.m our time) because i love what Wikipedia stands for If that is your final decision okay do have a great day.

unblock|reason=Hello I am appealing my blocked account because I have read all the reasons stated in the policies highlighted and still at a loss of any the stated for the block applied .The articles that are used to support the reason why I am/was blogged have been tagged for deletion or not published with the reasons clearly stated corrections given and applied the logs confirm this.I respond to all flags and apply the necessary correction also reverting to the person to examine it if it is in order. This is because I am new here and likely to make mistakes which will be corrected by more experienced users. No deletion has been contested except that Mosunmola which I was told when under contention , I will be notified and could contribute in the process. This never happened I just discovered it was deleted in September. There is that Akpabio and everything that followed which when investigated was an error of publishing my sandbox in the bid to move a particular article Ori Olokun I had completed to main space after it was moved to draftspace by an administrator ,I tried to move it to mainspace a task I messed up. Unfortunately, published all the content of the sandbox. The sandbox is a space where I thought drafts are made as a result had unfinished articles so i imported directly from LinkedIn or articles online ,the error which seems to have brought a myriad of issues and questions to my competence to write ,edit on an encyclopedia and even my English competency .Dear Admins be kind to review my appeal for an unblock. All stated above is open to review, investigation from logs on Wikipedia ,as well as my reaching out to the admin who tagged the unintentional publishing of unfinished articles in my sandbox on how to undo the error.I am willing to go through AFC for all my upcoming articles in the next six months Thank you

I have been blocked by User:Bbb23 the draft is one of the reasons why that is why I cannot reply on your talk page .I mistakenly published the content of my sandbox ,in trying to move an article to mainspace unfortunately the published everything and I have tried to explain this but to no avail. Campaigns Product Update #2

[edit]

Hello Campaigns Product Newsletter subscribers! We are excited to share our updates:

  • Request for Feedback: We have shared our project principles, wireframes for the desktop version, and open questions for you about the team’s event registration project. See the latest status updates here.
Wireframes are design tools that imagine the future interface of the software. We haven’t built anything yet. We need your feedback on these designs so that we can make better product decisions. You can give feedback on the talk page regarding the design and features of the wireframes. We would love to hear your comments to help us establish the next necessary steps for the project.
Please share with us your feedback!
  • Presentations: The Campaign Product team participated in WikiArabia 2021 and WikiConference North America 2021 to give a brief introduction on how the team works. Senior Program Strategist Alex Stinson gave an overview about campaigns and how we can scale the organizing experience within the Movement. Senior Product Manager Ilana Fried gave an introduction about the Product Team and the project wireframes of the first campaign software solution: the on-wiki registration tool. View the recorded presentation here.
  • Team update: We have hired our first team engineer, JCarvalho and our campaign organizing fellow, IBrazal. Newsletter updates will be done by IBrazal and she will be coordinating with you! We hope to have the rest of the engineering team onboard soon! For those of who missed the last Campaign Office Hour, you may watch the recording to know more about the Campaign Product Team.

What is next?

Testers Needed! We will be partnering with YUX, a design research agency, to learn how our team can improve the experience of Wikimedia campaign organizers and participants in Africa. For this reason, we are looking for community members who are willing to be part of the rapid testing sessions. Preferably, we want organizers and editors who have worked in an African context. If you would like to participate in testing, please email ibrazal-ctr@wikimedia.org.
Upcoming Conferences. Wiki Indaba 2021. This year, the conference will be held virtually on November 5-7, 2021 with the theme "Rethink + Reset : Visions of the future". unblock|reason=I am appealing to be unblocked, because I have realised that the reasons for which the block happened. I was initially unaware of the highlighted issues, so I put up an argument and was extremely frustrated, missing the points raised in the process. I have shared this problem with other community members, who have helped me understand the errors and what I should have done better and strive at improving. I have carefully examined the situation and I can see that some of my articles indeed do not follow Wikipedia’s manual of style, so I need to be more careful. In light of this, if I am unblocked, I would create my articles through the articles for review process. I would also be more careful about my syntax and remember to apply my punctuations properly. I will also edit, when I am not tired as I read my replies and found a lot of spelling mistakes which I found very embarrassing .With those kind of errors ,its very difficult to convince anyone that I have appropriate English skills and it seemed/seems to be a trend . I also owe User:Bbb23 an apology to for unnecessary long winding inaccurate argument from a frustrated and angry individual. Thank you for bringing my many errors to my attention to improve my editing skill. I have repented and realised my terrible mistakes and will be more careful .Thank you--Zend2020 (talk) 02:15, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Campaigns Product Update #3

[edit]

Hello Campaigns Product Newsletter subscribers!

We are excited to share our updates:

  • Proposal to create new namespaces: We have proposed to create two namespaces, which are “Event” and “Event talk.” This way, we can easily create an Event Center that pulls data from event pages. This Event Center may include tools to create event pages with registration support, a calendar of events, and event statistics, among other features. More importantly, the Event Center will highlight organizing as an essential part of the Wikimedia movement. Please give us feedback on Phabricator or Meta about our proposal to create two new namespaces.
  • Engineering updates: We are excited that we have finished hiring for our engineering team! Three engineers and an engineering manager have joined our team since our last update. In the last few months, they have conducted technical planning and launched the building phase of the project. They are now building the registration tool. You can see the updated team on meta.
  • Design updates: We conducted usability tests with a small group of testers for early feedback on the desktop wireframes. After collecting this feedback, we have developed a new version for desktop wireframes, which will be ready to share in the next few weeks. These desktop wireframes display the user flow of two experiences: one for organizers who want to add registration to their event pages, and another for participants who want to register for an event. Additionally, the design team is also currently working on the first version of mobile wireframes, which will be shared during the next office hour.
1. View the latest desktop wireframes in Figma for Campaign Organizer Prototype and Participant Registration Prototype.
2. Leave us some feedback on the desktop wireframes. Note that we haven’t posted the newest version of the desktop wireframes on the project page yet, but we will soon (and you can feel free to add feedback on any version you have seen).
  • Ambassador updates: Three product ambassadors for the Arabic, French and Swahili communities have now joined our team! They will help us collect feedback from Wikimedia communities about the project and understand the needs of organizers, through gathering first-hand information. These ambassadors are immersed as actual members of these communities, so they will also help us identify the needs of the organizers in our pilot communities. The ambassadors are: M. Bachounda for Arabic communities, Georges Fodouop for French communities, and Antoni Mtavangu for Swahili communities.

What is next?

Next Office Hour: We will be holding an office hour on March 31, 2022 at 15:00 UTC, which will be conducted via Zoom. We invite everyone to attend, and we really hope to see you! The focus will be on the Registration Tool. The team will also be providing community updates on the usability test findings and design highlights for the wireframes. We will also share our current Project timeline and answer any questions you may have. Join us and share your thoughts on these developments!
In a few months, we are expecting to have the early testable version of the tool. By then, the team will be doing the first round of general testing and gathering feedback. We are looking forward to adding more features on the tool such as communication support, potentially by the end of this year. If you know other organizers that might be interested in following these developments, please recommend that they subscribe to the newsletter. We want to receive as much feedback as we can.

Thank you!

Campaigns Product Update #4

[edit]

Hello Campaigns Product Newsletter subscribers!

We are excited to share our updates:

  • Event Registration v0
We have successfully launched Event Registration tool V0 on beta cluster and collected feedback from the first batch of testers. This tool is part of a more comprehensive organizing solution, the Event Center, which hopes to support movement organizers. Through this registration solution, organizers can collect useful data on campaign participants and their needs while respecting participant privacy.
Testing update. In our first round of feedback collection, testers were composed of different types of organizers around the movement with a language focus on Arabic, French, English, and Swahili communities. Most of the testers successfully created their test event registrations and signed up for a test event registration created by other organizers. Simple, easy to use, and aids in managing event participants were the common feedback we received from first-time users. In contrast, access and proper localization of the tool were the points for improvement identified. We are working on V1, which will include communication support and integration with the Programs and Event Dashboard. This will be released on Meta-Wiki soon. We hope to address accessibility during this launch and improve localization problems once the tool has been deployed in local wikiprojects.
The tool is still available for testing on the beta cluster. Feel free to leave feedback on our project talk page or this form.
  • Organizer Lab
Looking for a way to learn how to effectively organize around sustainability? Join the beta version of the Organizer Lab on WikiLearn to understand how to effectively organize a global campaign around sustainability and climate change! Applications are open from September 22 - October 19, 2022. The Organizer Lab will be a 9-week online learning experience from the end of October until mid December that prepares participants to obtain knowledge about the topics that they wish to create, a call to action for strategic knowledge gaps, as well as more generalized Wikimedia organizing and campaign/event design skills.
Read more about the program!

What's Next:

  • Organizer User Rights. We are reaching out to a pool of administrators from Arabic, French and Swahili communities to collect feedback on what is the best way to define organizer user rights, what privileges to give to community organizers, and what are the limitations of these privileges. Feel free to reach out to our product ambassadors or send an email to ibrazal-ctr@wikimedia.org if you are interested to be part of these conversations.

Community Feedback:

"Participants have been always asking the organizers are asked by participants whether they are registered, now participants will just look directly if they are registered, Thank you for creating the system"
- French Organizer

“I think that the platform will facilitate the process of promoting events and searching for participants”
- Arabic Organizer

Thank you!

Campaigns Product Team Office Hour - December 2022

[edit]

Hello Campaigns Product Newsletter subscribers!

The Wikimedia Foundation Campaigns Team invites you to join our upcoming office hours. In each session, we will introduce V1 of Event Registration Tool, so you can begin using it for real events on Meta-wiki.

In V1, the following new features will be includedː

Wikimedians for Sustainable Development - December 2023 Newsletter

[edit]
This is our twenty-seventh newsletter, a sort of year-in-review for 2023.

Dear Wikimedians for Sustainable Development,

As we bid farewell to 2023, we reflect on a year that has been an uneven year for our user group. While the journey has been marked by some truly inspiring events, most of our efforts have been largely uncoordinated and the user group hasn't been the support it could have been. Yet, there's a glimmer of hope and a world of potential for 2024.

Highlights of 2023:

Newsletters Galore
We kicked off the year with zeal, sharing updates and inspiration through four newsletters. The number of things happening in the movement is astounding, but we need to rethink the format of the newsletter going into the next year.
Growing Strong
The Wikimedians for Sustainable Development family welcomed 33 new members in 2023. Your passion and dedication continue to inspire us, and we look forward to nurturing this community spirit in the year ahead.
Wikimania Talks
Our voices echoed far and wide at Wikimania, where several members of our community took the virtual stage to share insights and ideas about everything from Wikipedians-in-Residence's to open data. Your contributions showcased our commitment to sustainable development on a global scale.
Content Creation Magic
Throughout the year, our extended community demonstrated incredible dedication to expanding the knowledge base on Wikipedia. Countless hours were spent creating and curating content that aligns with our mission, contributing to a more sustainable digital ecosystem.
Campaigning hard
We saw a large variety of campaigns, from writing challenges to editathons. The willingness to experiment with new formats and partners, as well as learning from past efforts, shows great promise for the future.

Acknowledging Challenges:

While we celebrate these achievements, we acknowledge that 2023 presented its fair share of challenges. A lack of global coordination reminded us that the road to sustainable development is not always linear. However, it is precisely these challenges that fuel our determination to work together more cohesively in the coming year and proof that the user group is needed.

Hopeful Anticipation for 2024:

As we turn the page to 2024, let's carry forward the lessons learned and the successes celebrated. We are optimistic that, with renewed energy and a collective commitment, we will overcome obstacles and create an even more impactful and connected Wikimedians for Sustainable Development community.

Here's to a year of collaboration, growth, and making a lasting impact on the world through our shared passion for sustainability. Together, we can turn challenges into opportunities and pave the way for a brighter future.

Wishing you all a joyous holiday season and a Happy New Year!

Warm regards, User:Ainali, User:Daniel Mietchen

PS. We have started writing our yearly report, please add your activities to it.
