Hi Yonina, I noticed that you deleted my revisions to this page asking me to cite sources. So therefore I will cite sources as best as I can. Just realize that information of other people, such as Rabbi CPS's children, wife, etc. are not referenced, but is common knowledge. So too, you deleted the entire section, at least leave Rabbi CPS's son Rav Simcha and his son-in-law Rav Altusky, both of whom learned under Rabbi CPS and were employed in the Yeshiva. Why do you need references for this common knowledge.

I also noticed you have been working on this page since March 2012. Aside from the fact that all I was doing was translating that which already appears on the Hebrew Wikipedia (which you can check by clicking עברית in the right margin), I work for Rabbi Mordechai Levine, a Rosh Kollel in Jerusalem, and student of Rabbi CPS for over 30 years, and has published a book which took over 10 years to complete of Rabbi CPS's Shiurim. All of these students are well known and many continue to work for the Yeshiva at the present time and it is easy to verify. However, I will gladly add references to the existence of these people.

Please help me keep the information up, rather than just deleting like it was spam or propaganda. Thank you

OK, I'll try to move it to the Torah Ore page. Thanks BetzalelGersten (talk) 21:36, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

The only problem is that there is no Torah Ore page. If there was one I would move it there, but I don't have the ability to create a Torah Ore page. Can we leave it here on the Chaim Pinchas Scheinberg page until a Torah Ore page is created and then we can move it at that point. Since Torah Ore equals Rabbi Pinchas Scheinberg (unlike other Yeshivas which have multiple Rosh Yeshivas over time - Rabbi CPS lived to 101 and he basically was Torah Ore until his passing). Thanks for your help

Talkback

Hello, Yoninah. You have new messages at Template:Did you know nominations/Chicken in the Rough.
Message added 23:30, 6 June 2015 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Thanks for performing the initial review. The hook was pulled, so I have provided an ALT1 there, if you're interested in checking it out. North America1000 23:30, 6 June 2015 (UTC)

Yoninah, I wasn't sure whether you'd seen the question here as to whether the copyedits you requested were sufficient for you. Given recent grammatical issues with others of this nominator's articles, one of which was pulled from prep just today, it probably merits a close check. Thanks. Request for Assistance

User:Yoninah, I'm in need of your assistance. Hopefully, you can be impartial and see through all that has been happening here. There is a WP article entitled Az-Zakariyya that I tried to make revisions to, by adding the current Israeli data about the village (now a Jewish Moshav, but formerly an Arab village). The author of that article (an Arab) disagreed that I add any current status about the village (such as current population stats, photographs, etc.) and so I desisted from doing so. See history of page. Since there was a second article written about the same Moshav (namely, Zekharia, this time written by a Jew but much shorter in scope), I decided to work on his article and to bring it up to par by enhancing it and carrying over some of the information found in the other article, but improving it and deleting derogatory statements about Israel. Now, the same (Arab) editor is deleting my edits on Zekharia. I have brought this matter to your attention since you are an experienced editor, with many years of experience. If you wish to know the complete matter and what has so far transpired between me and the other editor, you may wish to see the Talk page on Az-Zakariyya, under the section: "Merge." I would hope that you can help solve our dispute, but more importantly, that the editor in question does not continue to disrupt my editing, just as I would not disrupt another person's editing.Davidbena (talk) 02:08, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi -- I wonder if you may have the wherewithal and time to help me, as I've just noticed from a recent DYK that you presented that your facility with finding sources in Hebrew print newspapers is significant. Hi Yoninah,

I appreciate the absolute need to avoid copyvio issues and thank you for bringing these to my attention. However, just a couple of points regarding your copyedits.

  1. I changed "was visiting" to "was at", which you then changed to "was positioned". He was, in fact, not positioned there, he was visiting. I've re-edited. Sewell (1919), quoting the OC's letter, says: 'He had gone across two fields from where we are in underground shelters, to the shelters of the 5th Lincolns, to make some arrangements with their Adjutant.'
  2. "University College, Oxford" should be written as such, hence the use of the semi-colon to enumerate items in a list, and to avoid confusion that might arise from there being a comma between University College and Oxford, and immediately after.

So I've made a couple of changes. I hope that's ok. FunkyCanute (talk) 10:08, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

The quote is from Borschke, as is the comment "especially lethal in children.", although Sperati and others have said the same. Children were known to be particularly at risk due to their smaller airways. I had put the citation at the end of the first ¶ under "Work on intubation", since Borschke also clarifies what usually led to death in children. Have removed the mention of "especially in children" regarding trachs post-operative in the ¶ following, as the phrase now sounds redundant. Mannanan51 (talk) 02:17, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

Nicholas Salvador was cleared of murder, but still detained for killing Palmira Silva. I think there's a grey area about what exactly to call this article (maybe the legal case [presumably] R. v Salvador, but that is obscure), but calling it a murder when that charge was specifically cleared could breach WP:BLP. DYK

Hey Yoninah, you do a lot of really good work on DYK and I for one do appreciate it. But after that hook we just discussed, (I guess when I pop up on a board, the lurkers notice...) I'm now hearing some complaints - from multiple sources not connected to that article - that you are getting a little over-fussy and over-pushy about hooks. I'm sure you mean well, and we do have to have quality control, but you seem to be ruffling feathers that normally don't get too ruffled. You do know that a lead section of an article doesn't require a source if there is a source within the article body text, correct? The experienced editors with dozens if not hundreds of DYKs do know how to do this; it's OK to suggest they need an ALT1 hook or something (we all get into "in-universe" style when we write sometimes) but I think you might want to phrase things a bit more gently and with a lot of good faith. It's much better to say something like, "Can you tell me which footnotes source the hook?" rather than saying "the hook is unsourced." Does that difference make sense? There is such a backlog at DYK and so often I go to make a prep set and see the queues are empty, there is just a disconnect. Montanabw(talk) 17:32, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for your note

I appreciate the nice words and the good faith behind it. I am aware that I'm ruffling feathers with some editors by insisting on the rules. While I used to fix up problems rather than mention them, it takes so much time to build a prep set that I've been noting down the problems instead, and that is alienating some users. I will try to be friendlier in my posts, but I feel many people would rather I just IAR and leave them alone.

Regarding the hook on which you commented, I think it was a matter of broken telephone more than anything else in my, Gerda's, and your posts. If you read the thread, I said that I couldn't find inline cites for "early opera" or "20th century opera". She asked me (jokingly, but I didn't get it) whether she also has to source "Baroque" in the lead, and I said no. She suggested another hook but expressed displeasure with it. I suggested another hook, she nixed it, and then she suggested another hook, which I approved. I don't see where I ruffled her feathers, unless she is saying something between the lines that I don't get. You came in with a comment to get on with it, which would have happened with or without your input.

IMO, hook quality has really declined. People seem to be writing any old hook just to get exposure on the main page. DYK's reputation is bad enough without bad hooks, too. I often suggest hookier hooks, but many nominators dig in their heels and only want what they want. I admit, I'm getting a little burned out here. Yoninah (talk) 18:39, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Moved and answered... I'm not speaking for Gerda, as she is a pro, but I do think you did miss her humor, yes. On the one hand, while "early opera" is clearly a term of art, it could be something to ask about (perhaps with an acknowledgement that you are not the expert that the editor is, so can they explain ... <wink>) but on the other hand do think that "20th century opera" is something more than adequately sourced if there is a date beginning 19xx anywhere-when we have on our reviewing hat, w can do a little analysis ourselves, and it is OK to generalize.
But, as for the line between people who don't have the hang of DYK versus those who don't want to be edited versus IAR people who do poor work, it is important to notice the difference. Editors who write good articles may not be pros at DYK - it's two different skill sets - and I'm hearing words like "toxic atmosphere" getting tossed around. I know that I'm personally getting gunshy about making prep sets for fear someone else will carp at me for "allowing" a boring hook or something, or that I didn't do a full second review, running every source through dup detector of something ... we don't want to get so subjective that we have no submissions other than for cricket players from Sri Lanka... Montanabw(talk) 18:52, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments on my edits to the article about Dr. Meiselman. I disagree with your assertion that some of my edits violate the neutrality policy and have reinserted for now the ones that I believe clearly do not. User:Boruch Ber Kutotzky 23:42, 16 August 2015 (UTC)

Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

DYKs for Women in Red

Hi Yoninah. I thought I would bring this up on your talk page. You suggested having a mentoring or nominating system for DYKs on articles created under Women in Red. There are several issues here:

  • First, many of the DYKs seem to me to be more closely associated with the other projects covering women. Maybe it would be more effective to step up coordination with each of those projects. Furthermore, in some areas, such as women in architecture, the DYKs are also listed under the individual projects (e.g. Wikipedia:Architecture). It is therefore not clear to me if DYK coordination should be on WiR or in connection with the other projects or both of these.
  • Second, thanks in particular to the editathons and Megalibrarygirl's lists of missing articles under Women in Red, we have an increasing number of new participants in our work. In my opinion, we need to ensure that they are not put off by offensive templates or even article deletion. So you are absolutely right: an effective system of mentoring needs to be developed, not just for DYKs but for new articles in general.

I realize that apart from you and Victuallers, there are several other editors (e.g. SusunW and Rosiestep) who also regularly monitor or review new biographies of women. Perhaps together we could draw up lists of new editors requiring support and new articles for DYK nomination. Personally, although I spend quite a bit of time reviewing and improving new articles and liaising with their creators, I am not keen in joining the DYK nominating process. On the rare occasions I have nominated in the past, I have been involved in an unnecessary amount of administration and adaptation taking up time which I could more usefully have spent on content creation and improvement. I would not, however, object to participating in recommendations (e.g. on WiR) of articles suitable for DYK nomination.

Finally, if we are going to pursue developments along these lines, I think it would be useful to review the main page for Women in Red. I find it difficult to manage changes and additions in the various sections which are controlled by icons rather than in the traditional format for WikiProjects. Even the addition of a section for DYKs was difficult as the Metrics (i.e. New articles) icon does not function and there is no section on Featured content. Worst of all, there is no table of contents at the top of the article. Anyway, I really like your proposal and think we should develop it further. How do you think we should go forward?--Ipigott (talk) 09:22, 14 October 2015 (UTC)

@Ipigott: IMO, it would be better to keep the conversation centralized at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women/Women in Red#Four women in one batch of DYKs where Yoninah started it so that others can participate in the convo and decision-making. This is difficult with fragmented talkpage posts, especially if/when we want to draw in the attention of other Wikiprojects (e.g. Wikipedia:Architecture). --Rosiestep (talk) 13:16, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
@Rosiestep: I've copied my comments over to the WiR talk page but I have also left them here because (a) they do not just concern Women in Red and (b) I have made several unanswered suggestions on the WiR talk page and elsewhere along similar lines. For me it is becoming increasingly confusing to have to monitor additions to WikiProjects Women, Women writers, Women artists, Women's history, Women scientists, etc., etc., not to speak of the other WikiProjects covering our areas of interest. And I have also suggested that perhaps Women's sport (which is included in the Alexbot daily updates) is perhaps outside our remit. Personally, I would like to support Women in Red more strongly but I think it needs to be revamped. We simply don't seem to get much support from Harej and Co. for taking things forward and I therefore wonder whether we could not do a better job ourselves.--Ipigott (talk) 15:15, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
@Ipigott: I see this as good news and bad news -- that there are conversations happening at a lot of projects regarding women's biographies and women's works. But I empathize with your point... it's hard to stay on top of it all and create articles at the same time. As far as Harej and Co., we aren't locked into that, and we can do it ourselves if we have consensus to do so. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:15, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
@Rosiestep: Perhaps we should first see if Harej comes back to us on this. I've left a message on his talk page. Together with SusunW and others we are hoping to put together a calendar of events and a series of support pages for editathons on various topics. I think it would be much easier to present these more vividly (with images, etc.) if we had more control over the main page. There is obviously ever wider support for Women in Red and we must make sure we can respond effectively to the needs of our contributors while attracting new interest from the Wikipedia community as a whole. At the moment I'm completely bogged down in Women in Architecture but perhaps we can still start a discussion on this.--Ipigott (talk) 14:24, 15 October 2015 (UTC)

Women in Religion

Hi Yoninah. I thought I should make sure you know that WikiProject Women in Red is planning to cover Women in Religion this December. As you have been such an active contributor to the role played by Jewish women in many different areas including religion, perhaps you can help us to extend our list of red links on the subject. I expect you will also be contributing to our coverage of Women in Science in November. You've been doing a great job on spreading interest in Wikipedia's coverage of women, in particularly by ensuring so many articles appear on DYK. Keep up the good work.--Ipigott (talk) 10:43, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

You're invited! Women in Red World Virtual Edit-a-thon on Women in Science

You are invited! Join us remotely!

World Virtual Edit-a-thon on Women in Science

  • Dates: 8 to 29 November 2015
  • Location: Worldwide/virtual/online event
  • Host/Facilitator: Women in Red (WiR) in collaboration with Women scientists: Did you know that only 15% of the biographies on Wikipedia are about women? WiR focuses on "content gender gap". If you'd like to help contribute articles on women and women's works, we warmly welcome you!
  • Sponsor: New York Academy of Sciences
  • Event details: This is a virtual edit-a-thon hosted by WiR in parallel with a "phyisical" event during the afternoon of Sunday, November 22 in New York City. It will allow all those keen to improve Wikipedia's coverage of women in science to participate. As the virtual edit-a-thon stretches over three weeks, new participants will be able to draw on the assistance of more experienced editors while creating, translating or improving articles on women who are (or have been) prominent in the field. All levels of Wikipedia editing experience are welcome.
