Adding reference to Wikipedia articles

[edit]
Just follow the steps as shown, and fill in the details

Hello Xooxwiki! Please do not forget to add references from reliable sources for the content you add to Wikipedia. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. Adding well-formatted references is easy.

  1. While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which says "cite". Click on it.
  2. Then click on "templates".
  3. Choose the most appropriate template and then fill all relevant details. You can start with the field (e.g. URL) that has a magnifying glass icon and then click the magnifying glass to automatically populate the fields for you.

This will add a well-formatted reference, which will allow other people to see where you got your information from. You can read more about this at Help:Edit toolbar, or watch this video: File:RefTools.ogv. Thanks and regards. —DBigXray 07:52, 26 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Priority Pickup

[edit]

Hello Xooxwiki,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Priority Pickup for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. TheLongTone (talk) 12:27, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, Time crystals

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Time crystals. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Space-time crystal. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Space-time crystal – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. TheDragonFire (talk) 09:31, 9 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Abhinandan Varthaman requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". @DBigXray: Thanks. Do you think it warrants a separate page instead of being redirected to the larger page about the India-Pak standoff? Xooxwiki (talk) 17:51, 28 February 2019 (UTC)XooXWiki .[reply]

I do, not strongly but yes I do. WBG doesn't yet, hence he redirected. I think the best thing will be to wait and see --DBigXray 17:58, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
upon further thoughts, I have reverted the redirect and the article is back. You can post your comments about notability in the relevant thread on the talk page. --DBigXray 05:04, 2 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Do not add non notable spouse and children, respect the BLP privacy

[edit]

I have removed non notable spouse and children information from the Infobox and body see discussion on Talk:Carmen_Duncan#Name_of_Children_in_article_body and do not add it back again. regards. --DBigXray 06:17, 3 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you @DBigXray: - Noted. However, as I understand it, it is not a violation to mention the marital status and whether or not the subject has children. It is only the mention of names that is prohibited. Am I right in that understanding? IIRC, the names of children were not mentioned while the name of the spouse was mentioned. That was however properly sourced and is also perhaps notable because she was a retired IAF fighter herself. In any case, I don't mind it either way. This is purely for my own understanding.Xooxwiki (talk) 07:02, 3 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for understanding. If you read the last comment by admin User:Espresso Addict, in the above thread, she quotes the existing rules on this. Regarding the Pilot's article, his wife is a non notable person. So there is absolutely no need for wikipedia to quote her name. Abhinandan is married to a retired IAF officer is enough biographical information we should be giving in his BIO. If his wife had her own wikipedia article, then it would have made sense to include her name. Adding her name has no benefit other than a trivia. and there are severe privacy concerns about naming non notable persons on Wikipedia. IMHO the Pilot himself would not have liked that his wife and children information is coming out on Wiki, it is possible that naming them may bring harm to them from anti social elements. I understand that Indian Media in their media frenzy are reporting these things, but it is not expected from Wikipedia to repeat and copy everything from this media frenzy. Accordingly I have removed the name of his wife but left the part of the line that says he is married to a retired officer. "the number of children" again has absolutely no benefit and is just a piece of trivia. Hence I removed that as well. --DBigXray 08:22, 3 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
