CfD nomination of Category:Hindu worship

I have nominated Category:Hindu worship (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) for renaming to Category:Hindu liturgy, rites, and worship services (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs). Just wondering..

How come Wikistalking is protected against creation? I see that it was used as a cross-namespace redirect a few times, but it seems like it could be a useful article about stalking on wiki-based sites if written properly. OlEnglish (talk) 23:50, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of LocalSettings.php

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article LocalSettings.php, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

LocalSettings seems to be only used by MediaWiki (see also google search).

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. What's up with that block? We don't do blocks for self-requests. Toddst1 (talk) 00:34, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

If someone comes to me and nicely ask if they they can be blocked, I've got no issue with it. Some users may find it hard to go relax when they can edit. What's the harm here? — xaosflux Talk 01:21, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Admins should use thier own judgement on requests like this. If honoring it doesn't hurt anyone and helps out a long time editor, then why not. I know at one time or another there was some rule somewhere that we shouldn't give self-requested blocks, but rules at wikipedia change alot. Using ones own judgement and rationale at times like this is fine. There was nothing wrong with your block, Xaosflux--Duk 22:14, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, as there are no other notes, and A Man In Black has not replied to why he reversed me, I'm reinstating. If this user really needs this to cool off, let him. If he is 'disruptive' after retuning, normal blocks can be applied. — xaosflux Talk 00:46, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Filter 46

It is slower because it searches "old_wikitext", the entire text of the page. Prodego talk 03:47, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

That's what I was commenting on--perhaps too much there---note, the "edit" I made was to the COMMENT only--there must have been some sort of edit conflict that caused my version to change the condition. — xaosflux Talk 03:55, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
My change reduced its average runtime to 2.4ms, see Special:AbuseFilter/46. Let me know if this is sufficent. —— nixeagleemail me 04:01, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
Its up to 5.5ms, still better then 12ms. There are other filters worse now ;) Ping me if you find any that need fixing. —— nixeagleemail me 04:08, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Hello!

I just thought I'd introduce myself, as a fellow member of the BAG at the very least. I must say that though I have not been around very long, I was slightly thrown to see your name on a BRFA. "Who is this guy?" I thought to myself - and hence how I ended up here, wasting the time of a Wikipedian much more experienced than me. Anyhow, pleased to meet you! - Jarry1250 (t, c) 14:39, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Your deletion of my editnotice loader

You deleted my talkpage editnotice loader: log

Then you edited my talkpage editnotice so your change wouldn't be so visible: diff

And unlucky for me you did it when I was on a wikibreak, thus I did not see it in my watchlist. You just wasted a lot of my time since it took me some debugging to figure out why my editnotices didn't work as they should any longer.

I'm an admin and I'm one of the template programmers that have tried to give the rest of you a user-friendly well working editnotice system. Many of the templates used to manage editnotices were created and are still maintained by me.

Next time you think about deleting or editing a user's editnotices or other user subpages, don't. And if you do it anyway, the least you can do is to leave a message at their talk page telling what you have done. They might not be there the same week to see it in their watchlists.

--David Göthberg (talk) 18:11, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

enot response

David, Apologies for any inconvenience I caused you, yes I should have at least left you a talk page notice; I was never trying to hide anything, was just cleaning up what appeared to be test pages in the Mediawiki: space. Now that you've brought it up though, if these pages exist soley for your own benefit, can you find a way to make them work using the User/Editnotice convention? If all users used personal editnotices in the Mediawiki: namesapce, it could get rather unmanageable. Thank you, — xaosflux Talk 12:37, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Ehm no? That loader is not there "solely for my own benefit". I run that "personal" editnotice loader so I can test and develop loader functionality that will benefit all of you. I prefer to test things in my user space before I deploy them site wide.
And no worries: When we have updated the central loaders then almost all editnotices will be loaded from template and user space. Then only the central loaders and some test loaders like mine will remain in MediaWiki space. Thus minimizing the strain on the "message cache" in the rendering servers.

Re: Uh what?

Hmm.. what do you want me to reply with? The person's still running a proxy on 217 (on port 80), but has apparently closed it. Thanks for the unblock. =) (rpl on mine) --slakrtalk / 19:12, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

It means that someone was running a proxy on 217.125.18.169, port 8080, and when the bot connected to my server through that proxy, the public IP that connected to my server to service that request was 80.58.205.54; as a result, while the open proxy is on 217.125.18.169, the ip that would be visible to wikipedia's servers is 80.58.205.54, thus 80 was blocked instead of 217. --slakrtalk / 04:37, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

GA Sweeps invitation

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are listed as a GA reviewer. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! Jonathan Shapiro

Back in December 2007 you deleted Jonathan Shapiro for CSD#A7 Notability. However, I believe he is notable based upon the four articles that wikilink to him alone Special:WhatLinksHere/Jonathan Shapiro (I'm refering to the computer expert -- there is probably another article to be written for the writer too). Could you consider restoring it.

If the article is too bad to just be allowed to gain details just by being left as a stub (if it was one) you can usify it to me. Mark Hurd (talk) 08:15, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Now User:Wizzy has moved a third Jonathan Shapiro (Zapiro) over it. I assume it is now lost. Mark Hurd (talk) 10:40, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
In case it is not, I have moved disambiguated all the references to the computer expert to Jonathan Shapiro (programmer) Mark Hurd (talk) 10:54, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Notification of the upcoming Wikimedia relicensing

In case you are not aware, the Free Software Foundation has added terms to the GFDL 1.3 allowing the relicensing of certain content under the CC-BY-SA 3.0, and the community has approved with 75.8% in favor that this permission be used to dual-license all Wikimedia wikis under both licenses. On June 15, 2009, this change will take effect. This note is to let you know that {{WikimediaNoLicensing}} does not affect the relicensing of your contributions in this manner, as you cannot deny the terms of the GFDL. If you have any comments, please join the discusion at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#NoMultiLicense template. Anomie 16:56, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Bryan Mark Rigg

Why is he not notable:
a. The author of two best sellers translated to many languages.
b. Google result for exact search gives over 10,000 entries. First 100 all relevant and different, including podcasts, speeches, TV interviews, and scientific articles and blogs relating to this man.
b. Name used by both sides of one of the major controversies of our time: New Antisemitism, and Revisionism. (I found the name while looking something up on David Irving's site!) and strongly connected to the holocaust.
c. His personal story of research is truly remarkable.
d. His personal history is extremely unusual. A catholic from a southern state of the US happens to be on a trip to Germany, sees a theater show that gets him interested on a topic, meets a stranger who opens the topic and turns it into a lifetime research goal, and finally to discover that he personally is a Jew, who then goes to Israel and volunteers for its army!
e. His name is first under wikipedia Rigg surname but instead of pointing to Wikipedia it points out to www.bryanrigg.com
So would you consider putting the article back up? Or was it badly written? Should I write it anew and propose it? Will be happy to hear your opinion. -- פשוט pashute ♫ (talk) 13:18, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
Oh - and he his is the writer of a disputed recent biography on the leader of the a large Jewish sect: Chabad. So his name is sure to stay high on the list political, historic and religious dispute. --פשוט pashute ♫ (talk) 13:23, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

RTV Studio B

On 28 May 2008 you deleted RTV Studio B because the article did not indicate the significance and importance of the subject. I have collected a number of sources which seem to me to indicate that this radio and television broadcaster does have sufficient significance and importance to justify it having an article in Wikipedia. I was therefore intending to write such an article, but, after reading "If you are recreating a page similar to the previously deleted page, or are unsure, please first contact the deleting administrator using the information provided below.", I was unsure. So, I thought it best to contact you before proceeding, and I would be grateful for a response to guide me in deciding whether to write such an article or not. Aradia or the gospel of the witches

I think the article on Wicca would be a lot better if it at least mentioned Leland, and his compilation Aradia. Although its in dispute among some follows of this faith, it contains the Charge of the Goddess, which in most circles is an important document. PLease review this, and I mention this at the end of the article so at least its there. Many people will come away not know Pre-Gardener Wicca. Just a thought! And I HOPE a a Wiccan was involved in writing this!

Blessed Be!

If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from Nettrom (talk), SuggestBot's caretaker.

P.S. You received these suggestions because your name was listed on the SuggestBot request page. If this was in error, sorry about the confusion. -- SuggestBot (talk) 05:41, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
