Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Wilhelmina Will! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot notifying you on behalf of the the unreferenced biographies team that 1 of the articles that you created is currently tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 317 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Why?
[edit]Are you linking species pages to the genus? This makes it very hard to see if a species still needs a page. Could I ask you to please not do this for moths and butterflies at least? This would really disrupt my working process. I would also ask you to get some kind of consensus for this at the Wikiproject Tree of Life, because I think most would be opposed to this. Ruigeroeland (talk) 17:15, 25 September 2010 (UTC)
- Hmm yes, I noticed that, but he only does that for articles with little to no info that are already there. I am not a supporter of that either, but it was part of a cleanup operation he was doing (there where 100s of articles just saying "species X belongs to genus Y" without any further info whatsoever). I would rather have them deleted than redirected to be honest. Anyway, thanks for leaving the Lepidoptera alone. Ruigeroeland (talk) 12:43, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

Endemism versus native flora
[edit]Hi. You recently created a nice article on Zephyranthes puertoricensis, then listed the plant in List of endemic flora of Puerto Rico. However, your article states that the plant is "known from Puerto Rico, the West Indies, and northern South America," as it appears to be from one of the references cited. The itis link included in the list article appears to be a circular reference to the article you wrote? Probably this plant's endemism should be cleared up with another source first, before adding the plant to the list of Puerto Rican endemics, so I removed it for now. --Kleopatra (talk) 16:17, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
I also removed Ilex urbaniana for the same reason, its article says it is native to Puerto Rico, Hispanolia, and one of the British Virgin Islands. There might be a list of Caribbean endemics where this one can be added. --Kleopatra (talk) 16:36, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
- Good method for finding useful articles, though, from a list of endemic plants. If you create more, let me know, and I will do some editing, as I am interesting in paleo-Caribbean floras and don't mind editing the articles on extant plants of the area. --Kleopatra (talk) 05:37, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Colombia, oceans
[edit]Wilhelmina Will, I stumbled across a bunch of the taxonomic articles you've recently created. I just wanted to give you a heads up about a couple typographic errors you've been making. The nation in South America is Colombia, not Columbia (two "o"s, no "u"). Also, the "O" in Atlantic Ocean and Pacific Ocean should be capitalized and the whole name of the ocean should be wikilinked, e.g. Atlantic Ocean, not Atlantic ocean. Thanks. [edit]Hello Wilhelmina! Thanks for helping out with the Gracillariidae species! One thing though: could you check the brackets for the genus authority? Please leave them as they are on the source site. There is a difference between for instance "(Meyrick, 1908)" and "Meyrick, 1908". The first version with brackets indicates that the species was originally described in another genus, while the latter means it was described in the genus it is in today. Cheers and keep it up! GOCE Drive – Final push
[edit]Greetings GOCE Backlog elimination drive participant, We are now coming up to the last few days of the drive, the last for 2010. Currently, it looks like we will achieve our target for reducing the backlog by 10%, however, we still have huge numbers for 2009. We have 55 participants in this drive. If everyone just clears 2 articles each, we will reduce the backlog by a further 110 articles. If everyone can just do 3 articles, we will hit 165. If you have yet to work on any articles and have rollover words, remember that you do need to copyedit at least a couple of articles in this drive for your previous rollover to be valid for the next drive. There are many very small articles that will take less than 5-10 minutes to copyedit. Use CatScan to find them. Let's all concentrate our firepower on the first three months of 2009 as we approach the end of this final drive for the year. Thank you once again for participating, and see you at the finish line! – SMasters (talk) 04:03, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the new fossil snail articles!
[edit]Hello Wilhelmina Will! I just wanted to thank you for the two new fossil snail articles you created. Well done! I will add taxoboxes, although they will be done the way that living snail experts do them, paleontologists often do the taxonomy a little differently. Anyway, I wonder if you have a special interest in fossil snails? Just in case, I am giving you this invitation to join WikiProject Gastropods. It's a very informal group but check us out anyway. Best wishes to you and thanks again, Invertzoo (talk) 14:03, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Another project
[edit]I'm going to try and finish the Opostegidae family next. You might be interested in working from a source I found? Its a work describing all Neotropical Opostegidae and is located here, see: http://si-pddr.si.edu/dspace/bitstream/10088/7184/1/SCTZ-0625-Lo_res.pdf. FYI: I started some time ago and finished up to page 81. I will be trying to find sources on the remaining species. There should be a total of about 200. We have just over 50 now, so should be finished pretty quickly (in comparison with previous projects) :) Ruigeroeland (talk) 16:11, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Re:Micropterigidae

specified; the {{italictitle}} template is not necessary. Cheers, Intelligentsium 00:46, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Re:Next
[edit]Hi Wilhelmina.. Great work! I worked through all of them and added the range, synonyms, etc. if they were not there yet. You could start adding species using http://nepticuloidea.info. If you do could you please add the range and if present also the foodplant? Saves me the trouble of having to add them later.. The genus Stigmella is done by the way, I added all missing species found on that site to our article and made the species pages, same for Opostegoides. All other genera need checking against the site. If you find species that are missing on wikipedia, could you also add them to the genus? Anyway.. only do it if you feel like it, if not I will pick it up later..! Ruigeroeland (talk) 14:43, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
- I checked all Nepticulidae genera and added most of the missing species, the only ones still missing are on my sandbox page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ruigeroeland/Sandbox, feel free to work from that page if you want. I will do a check on the Opostegidae species tomorrow, but I think we will have most of them covered. Cheers! Ruigeroeland (talk) 16:25, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
- Just to let you know, both these families are done! I have no sources for complete families at the moment, so I will just go on as usual, adding species I find info on. You might be interested in helping out making articles from this list, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Rocket000/Lepidoptera. It is a list of pictures on commons that do not have articles on wikipedia. I picked out most of the moths already though, so most are butterflies. If you do make some, funet is a great source for finding synonyms and subspecies for butterflies. Cheers Ruigeroeland (talk) 19:00, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

DYK for Gillellus inescatus
[edit]On 28 December 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Gillellus inescatus, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the tropical marine fish Gillellus inescatus possesses an esca similar to that of an anglerfish, which might be used for luring prey and attracting mates? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Hello, happy new year and welcome to the 2011 WikiCup! Your submissions' page can be found here and instructions of how to update the page can be found here and on the submissions' page itself. From the submissions' page, a bot will update the main scoresheet. Our rules have been very slightly updated from last year; the full rules can be found here. I found a good source you might consider using, http://www.cate-sphingidae.org/ It is way better than funet. I will use this one from now on. If we want to do it properly, we should check the lists of species in the genera articles against this site before making the actual species article I guess. New Years Message for WikiProject United States
[edit]With the first of what I hope will be monthly newsletters I again want to welcome you to the project and hope that as we all work together through the year we can expand the project, create missing articles and generally improve the pedia thought mutual cooperation and support. Now that we have a project and a solid pool of willing members I wanted to strike while the iron is hot and solicite help in doing a few things that I believe is a good next step in solidifiing the project. I have outlined a few suggestions where you can help with on the projects talk page. This includes but is not limited too updating Portal:United States, assessing the remaining US related articles that haven't been assessed, eliminating the Unrefernced BLP's and others. If you have other suggestions or are interested in doing other things feel free. I just wanted to offer a few suggestions were additional help is needed. [edit]Thanks so much Willhelmina Will for the new articles on species in the marine genus Cerithiopsis. Our coverage of marine micromollusks certainly needs expanding, and you are helping significantly. A lot of people don't realize how interesting and even beautiful micromollusks are. Actually, a lot of people don't know that micromollusks even exist at all, because they don't notice the shells of these very small creatures when they are strolling down the beach! And if you show micromollusk shells to most people, they are very surprised to learn that these are indeed adult shells, not juveniles of a larger species. Anyway, thanks again. GOCE drive news
[edit] Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 backlog elimination drive
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! The drive is halfway over, so here are some mid-drive stats.
So far, 43 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 25 have participated. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now.
We have eliminated two months from the backlog – January and February 2009. One of our goals is to eliminate as many months as possible from the 2009 backlog. Please help us reduce the size of this part of the backlog if you haven't already. Another goal is to reduce the entire backlog by 10%, or by 515 articles. Currently, we have eliminated 375 articles from the queue, so if each participant copy edits four more articles, we will reach that goal. Thank you for participating in the January 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success! Your drive coordinators –S Masters (talk), Diannaa (Talk), The UtahraptorTalk to me, and Tea with toast (Talk) |

Do you think you could give me an idea of what direction the page should go? A link to a page that you think is a good example would be helpful. Thanks! Nihola (talk) 20:41, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

WikiCup 2011 January newsletter
[edit]We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. Signups are now closed, and we have 129 listed competitors, 64 of whom will make it to round two. Congratulations to The Bushranger (submissions), who, at the time of writing, has a comfortable lead with 228 points, followed by Hurricanehink (submissions), with 144 points. Four others have over 100 points. Congratulations also go to Yellow Evan (submissions), who scored the first points in the competition, claiming for Talk:Hurricane King/GA1, Miyagawa (submissions), who scored the first non-review points in the competition, claiming for Dognapping, and Jarry1250 (submissions) who was the first in the competition to use our new "multiplier" mechanic (explanation), claiming for Grigory Potemkin, a subject covered on numerous Wikipedias. Thanks must also go to Jarry1250 for dealing with all bot work- without you, the competition wouldn't be happening!
A running total of claims can be seen here. However, numerous competitors are yet to score at all- please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. The number of points that will be needed to reach round two is not clear- everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! - Hi Wilhelmina, You have been credited with a 10K article – Asura Cryin', but I see that the {{copyedit}} tag is still there. If you can complete the full copyedit by 19 February and remove the tag, we will award you with the 10K barnstar. Please drop a note on my talk page when you have finished the article or if you have any questions. Thanks! – SMasters (talk) 11:42, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

You deserve this.
[edit]Here is something soft and cuddly for signing my guestbook. I will only give out a barnstar to the first user to sign (that was Finalius) but this will still make you happy. Enjoy!
The Master of Mayhem has given you a kitten! Kittens promote WikiLove and hopefully this one has made your day better. Kittens must be fed three times a day and will be your faithful companion forever! Spread the WikiLove by giving someone else a kitten, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend.
Spread the goodness of kittens by adding {{subst:Kitten}} to someone's talk page with a friendly message, or kittynap their kitten with {{subst:Kittynap}}
- My, what a surprise! Now I'll always have a little companion while I'm on Wikipedia. Thanks! Wilhelmina Will (talk) 13:12, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
About all the nice Cerithiopsis articles
[edit]Hi Wilhelmina Will. I wanted to ask you a very big favor. I am currently very busy in RL, so I don't have the time to do this, but if you look at the first few Cerithiopsis articles you made, you will see I fixed them up a little bit like this: [1]. I did that up to up to Cerithiopsis apicina. What I did was I enlarged the intro, made it a bit clearer, and in the taxobox I made the author names into red links or blue links using their full names by referring to list of malacologists.
If you could possibly bear to contemplate all that fiddly work, maybe you would consider fixing up the other very nice Cerithiopsis articles you made? If not, I totally understand. Either way we totally appreciate your hard work! Best, Invertzoo (talk) 01:26, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
