Welcome to the first issue of The Wikifier

Monday 10 January 2011

Wikipedia is the best thing ever. Anyone in the world can write anything they want about any subject, so you know you are getting the best possible information.” —Michael Scott

Since this is the first edition of The Wikifier and my first attempt to an "editorial" or something close to that, I must begin by saying thank you to everyone who gave so generously to our project; it's an enormous privilege and joy to be part of the project. I am so very pleased to introduce this first Issue of the "wikification" newsletter, which I hope will be a success.

Wikify, Wfy, WFY, wfy, Wiki-ise, Wiki-ize, Wikification, Wikifying, Wikiise, Wikiize, Wikipedify.... What does it mean? Well, paraphrasing and summarising the glossary of terms commonly used on Wikipedia, it means to format a page by using wiki markup. They are all things we all do in reality often without even realising, this includes to apply any form of wiki-markup for standard headings, page layout, text formatting, links and URLs, files, lists, tables, templates and more.

In this space, every two months, other editors will present informative and/or instructional editorials, meant to help you. I would like to remind you that the next 'Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive' will start in February. Are you ready? The last backlog elimination drive was a great success! Also, if you want to add yourself to our list of participants, please, visit this page. You may also try your luck! And remember, the "holy book", the main reference for each wikipedian is our Manual of Style. My advice is, if you are in doubt, then consult "the manual".

I would also like to say a big thank you to any and all who have been involved in pulling this newsletter together and I'm sure you'll join me in wishing them all the best for the future.

Don't be afraid to edit and be bold! Happy editing!
