Reverted Mithraism changes
[edit]Is there a reason why you reverted my changes to the Mithraism article?
I note that the user 'Wetman' reverted my change to the Mithras article to restore the AD/BC that he had edited out, and posted an insult on the talk page for that IP address (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:84.66.148.69). I don't profess to know much about Wikipedia (I do know rather a lot about Mithras), or how this should be handled, but must I endure this? He appears to be imposing his own POV on a lot of religion-related articles. Is there any moderation of this sort of activity? 84.65.221.121 21:48, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Hideyoshi's invasions of Korea
[edit]While it's good to be enthusiastic about improving the encyclopedia, your threat of changing the title of the "Hideyoshi's invasions of Korea" article to your preferred title "by any means" is not acceptable behavior here. Should you follow through on your threat, you will be blocked from participating on WIkipedia. Trying to force your opinion on others by threatening to engage in such tactics is not compatible with the official policies to assume good faith and to be civil. Please continue to make a concerted effort to resolve any disputes in a civil manner, especially as it seems that most of the other editors working on the article have begun coming around to a consensus. Civility
[edit]It is important to keep a cool head, especially when responding to comments against you or your edits. Personal attacks and disruptive comments only escalate a situation; please keep calm and remember that action can be taken against other parties if necessary. Attacking another user back can only satisfy trolls or anger contributors and leads to general bad feeling. Please try to remain civil with your comments. Thanks! Try not to accuse others of "conspiracy," and have please remember the good faith policy. Also, it would be nice to avoid leaving misleading comments, like "consensus has not been reached" when you are in a superminority. —LactoseTIT 17:16, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
I don't mean conspiracy that way, and if you really advocate civility, don't readily give out warnings like that. And from my point of view, consensus hasn't been reached. (Wikimachine 17:21, 4 September 2006 (UTC))
- If you don't mean words "that way," then don't use them in an ambiguous manner. In any case, read Wikipedia:Consensus for the definition of consensus in use at Wikipedia. —LactoseTIT 18:04, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Why I support Hideyoshi's invasions
[edit](Response to your message on my talk page.) First, please don't forget that Korea was invaded and many, many were killed in the invasions. I know the image is unpleasant, but it's important to remember it the way it happened (as much as we can--so much history from that time is permanently lost). Second, Hideyoshi deserves the largest share of blame (or credit, I suppose) for the invasions. I think this is why most books do actually refer to it this way, and this is why most know it by this name. You can't have the heroes without having the troubles. On the surface, you might think people are arguing for a Japanese point of view title, but in reality they are actually painting the picture of what happened--and they are not trying to avoid saying that it was an outright invasion by Hideyoshi. When you actually have people admitting this is the most common name of the event, I don't see why you are trying to obscure the title. All too often (rightly or wrongly) Japanese are accused of whitewashing the truth with pretty words, but this time it seems we are doing it for them. Part of what makes me proud of Korean history is how people overcame the obstacles to become, for the most part, a respectable nation today. Komdori 13:56, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- I left a response to your latest comments on my talk page. By the way, sorry for the flurry of PUI images--I was trying to clean up an article I found and realized they were tagged kind of in an odd way. Komdori 14:38, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Can you ask him to clarify what he means? He said, "If it's up to me, I have to copyright to those pics I offered," which might mean he _wants_ to copyright them. I think he might have made a typo, though, and means wants to release the copyright. Also, someone added another picture to this page (a good one), so if he refuses it's not a big deal. Komdori 13:30, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
- I have put another pictures of the water clock. I'd rather delete this picture. (Wikimachine 16:13, 13 September 2006 (UTC))
- The other picture... He clearly said that he intends to have no copyright, but is not sure if pictures of displays in a museum are copyrighted. So he said, if it's up to him, he would consider those copyrighted by the museum (pictures taken by himself), which is untrue.
- Komdori, those pictures are results of my hard work in searching the web. They can't be posted easily without copyright violations.

Oriental
[edit]I'm not sure if I'm responding properly to you but here goes. (My reply follows your messages.)
Hi, this is Wikimachine. I saw your recent edits to the Oriental article, and even though your arguments were good, I suggest that you try to combine your additions to the existing paragraph instead of creating a separate paragraph of contradiction. Thanks for your efforts! (Wikimachine 04:34, 25 October 2006 (UTC))
Again, at the Oriental article, you put something I would consider nonsense, such as stuffs about American universities, how Asians take pride, etc. (Wikimachine 01:14, 2 November 2006 (UTC))
Please discuss before you edit. Your English is awkward & some of them are just complete nonsense. You don't put any reference to your claims. (Wikimachine 17:12, 2 November 2006 (UTC))
It is your opinion that my English is awkard and it is your opinion that some of what I say is complete nonsense. I respect and value your opinion. By the same token, you should be aware that others find your English awkward find some of what you have posted to be complete nonsense. For example, where do you support your claim about making English "the world's first culturally neutral language"? Even if you did support this claim, don't you think this argument belongs somewhere under "politically correct"?
In the forum, I think we can agree that it's important to stick to the facts. It's also important on unresolved issues to acknowledge both sides of an argument. I agree that many people think that Oriental is a derogatory term. But it's equally important to explain that many people do not think Oriental is a derogatory term. This is a question that cannot be settled between us. Admittedly, I am a wiki-newbie, so I'm willing to follow your lead, but I'm not going to stand for the dismissal of the opposing viewpoint. By the same token, I will not stand by while you post blatant bias. The headline "Objects not people" is an example of blatant and unsupported bias posing as a headline of some sort. There is no rationale provided for this opinion posing as a headline. The bottom line is I'm happy to follow your lead, but I will not let you post wrong-headed opinions in what is intended to be a fact-based neutral POV reference.

In the mean time, please help me with the formatting if you have the time. I appreciate the welcome and the help!

[edit]Please take a look at Demographics of South Korea. I've been trying to add content from the U.S. Library of Congress Country studies, public domain content. I thought you were supposed to add reputable content, even if you didn't know Wikipedia formatting rules, so that others could improve it. Instead, one editor keeps just deleting it, changing his reasons every time. First, he thought it was copyright violation. It wasn't. Then he complained that it wasn't wikilinked. I added wikilinks. Now he says it's irrelevant, even though it's all demographics content directly from the demographics section of the country study. I don't know what his problem is. Welcome to the Military history WikiProject!
[edit]Hi, and welcome to the Military history WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to military history.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated very frequently. You can watchlist it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including {{WPMILHIST Announcements}} there.
- Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- We've developed a number of guidelines for article structure and content, template use, categorization, and other issues that you may find useful.
- The project's monthly newsletter will normally be delivered as a link, but several other formats are available.
There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—and wherever—you'd like:
- Additional reviewers for the military history peer review and A-Class review processes are always needed!

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Misato Katsuragi.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Misato Katsuragi.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fritz S. (Talk) 20:19, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Battle of Chingshanli
[edit]Battle of Chingshanli article keeps on being editted by this one Japanese Wikipedian Nanshu and uses Japanese sources for his infomation claiming its a farce and under-rates Japanese KIA/WIA and the end of the article is this: "This means that the only source that was said to support the Korean victory was a fiction." also looking at his edit history he is obviously very biased against China and VERY biased Against Koreans don't know if you can help anything but any help would be appreciated.
Also on Tsushima Island under Sovereignty claims by South Korea
"The Japanese government did not make any official responses to the city council's claim ,because its claim was very stupid. I need Information for editing guideline
[edit]There is a user called User:Opp2 in Talk:Dokdo. He seems to be bias, and many editors in Wikipedia notice the issue. He claims that he will "delete the description about Japanese contradiction and terra nullius for NPOV and clearing the fabrication if no one can confirm a Japanese government's original source." I don't think this is a good idea, and I am afraid that Dokdo article will be edited in a wrong biased way, especially without coordination between editors. So I told him several times that he is bias and he doesn't simply have enough witness to simply support his argument. He is being really tough to protect himself against criticism from a lot of opposing editors. He demands for wikipedia editing guideline. The quote by this user: "Do you say that the lie and POV have to leave at Wikipedia? Is that written in the guideline? Please teach where of the guideline to be being written."

Tsushima Island
[edit]Hi Wikimachine.
Thanks for your message. The first revert I made was a mistake on my part - I was still getting to grips with using VP and reverted the edits to Tsushima Island instead of another article. I then tried to revert my own edits (as the 1st rv ws a mistake) and reverted to your edits instead of the IP Address whose edits I reverted. I hope that makes sense!
- And then 2nd rv removed this reference "<ref name="donga">[http://www.donga.com/fbin/output?f=j_s&n=200407220321 donga.com]</ref>". Was the ref outdated or inexistent? The IP Address before removed this - the edit history said: http://www.donga.com/fbin/output?f=j_s&n=200407220321 donga.com Information on ancient Tushima is not being written on this page
- <ref name="wikimedia">[http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Historical_maps_of_Korea Wikimedia Commons category on Historical maps of Korea]</ref> - The IP Address user removed this stating: There is no information in this link at all. Please add information in the map
- Your 2nd rv added "However, because South Korean tourist's manners were bad, the Tushima assembly decided to make manners of fishing a law.<ref>県対馬海区漁業調整委員会 - 対馬でまき餌制限へ 韓国人客の法令抵触対策 [http://www.nagasaki-np.co.jp/kiji/20061228/05.shtml]</ref>"
- Was this addition intentional? I think I removed it because it was out of context (tourism =/= manners of fishing), and also POV (does not provide defense for the subject of this criticism).
- This was my mistake. This appears to have been removed again.
Please accept my apologies for the unnecessary confusion I caused.
Yours, Matthuxtable 12:15, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Image:HSR350x
[edit]I have seen image HSR350x.JPG, it is well done. Nevertheless, isn't better to post up the real photo of it? (because in articles like Shinkansen, Eurostar, KTX,TGV all have the photographs for each of the trains)
- Do you think Graphic Design of this train must be removed or replaced?--Jamesshin92 06:52, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Please, tell me the way to take down the image. --Jamesshin92 07:04, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
I want to draw through the computer based on the real image (not traced), is that part of copyright vio? --Jamesshin92 07:12, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
That CG is based on multiples of images, I examined through websites. I sourced each image I examined. So, it is an overal picture. The way I said "there is no specific images" I meant like copying or tracing.--Jamesshin92 07:46, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
I made a link to your talk page from this image, for people who would want to discuss about this image. Is that okay for you? --Jamesshin92 07:54, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Please Archive!
[edit]Hello could you please archive the discussion page on Dokdo? It's becoming too difficult to read because of Opp2's constant blabberings;; Thanks! --DandanxD 16:03, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
Hello, Wikimachine. I'm sure you know a lot of people are sort of watching but not reading Opp's lectures anymore at the Dokdo page. It's great that you are trying your best to be nice to him, but please don't encourage his crusade and original research. When and if he provides proper secondary sources (in English, please!), other editors can judge the verifiability and reliablity of his sources. It doesn't make sense to me to add his obscure and controversial claims first, without any proper citations. I've never seen people put in new strange claims together with a "citation needed" tag. As far as I've seen, those tags are added when some pre-existing sentence is not too controversial but not obvious either, and has already been long-standing in an article. In the Dokdo case, it would make more sense to try to keep the discussion about citations in the talk page, until other editors agree that Opp's claim has been properly referenced. Thanks. Revert warning
[edit]Please do not engage in edit wars over wording and content on the Japan-Korea relations. You are very close to violating the three revert rule. Please discuss any changes you wish to make on the talk page, especially if the changes may be controversial. You may also try following the steps for resolving disputes as they are very useful in resolving disputes between editors working in good faith. Even Though this happened a while ago
[edit]Why did you edit the Wikiproject To-Do List? What was wrong with it in the first place? Oh and as it is Peace Corps is the worst form of Cultural Imperialism By using the United States Congress we should repeal DADT and thus saving the world from Nuclear Genocide :P
- OMG, OMG OMG!!! DADT!!! I HATE THAT AFF!!!!
- No, Peace Corps can see the reversal of power relations - that is, if Peace Corps has that much potential to expand cultural imperialism, it has that much potential to reverse that relations. And I have plenty of cards talking about how the volunteers are not willing to teach but explore and learn together. That way, no cultural imperialism!
Anyways, Visviva said that the todo list was outdated & I wanted a much smaller To-do list. I was going to make the to-do list like that of WikiProject Japan.
The real problem arose when Good friend100 suggested categorizing the to-do list into those of corresponding working groups.
It's really impossible to do categorization that way. So, after a few edits at the to-do list (to make it look like one) I gave up. For example, military history & history... uh... where's the line? And housekeeping group gets all the messed up articles - which are pretty much the entire Korea-related articles. It's too confusing. I can't redo the todo list by myself. And I was consumed away by the Dokdo article's current maelstrom. (Wikimachine 03:56, 22 January 2007 (UTC))

[edit]Hi Wikimachine, thanks for letting me know about the type of mediation which you want to prefer. Please response on the Mediation page and it would be preferrable if you put your type of mediation on the mediation page itself again. Regarding your comments about the sock-puppets, I just want to say one thing, Mediation is not vote. If somebody want to say some thing (s)he could say it him(her)self, there is no need of seperate account to say. It does not matter, if they are sock-puppets. Sockpuppetry case
[edit]Wikimachine,I was so impressed by your claim I am using Sockpuppetry to support the chinese side in Goguryeo. It is completely insulting to classify others as the same person just because they hold the same opinion. From the time when I first editing in Wiki,I tried to respect any different view from anyone.I had never attacked any users personnaly.Maybe you are trying to infuriate me by such behavior, and I wont go mad for it,and will let you play to the end.--Ksyrie 05:01, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

- You konw when I see the Sockpuppetry case I was so astonished.I can understand your way if you had experienced such case. But sometimes, the accusation is too superficial. And furthemore, the Sockpuppetry is no good. It's wiki, where is a place to provide verifiable sources, the numbers of same voices doesn't help.--Ksyrie 05:29, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Block
[edit]You've been blocked for 48 hours for disruptive editing and for threatening to encourage a wheel war. --Nlu (talk) 00:31, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Unblock request via e-mail
[edit]Hi. This is user Wikimachine blocked by admin Nlu for "Disruption and taunting" @ IP address 69.245.43.115 (I think there's another one, but the admin blocked both).
The block evolved out of a dispute on talk page of the article Goguryeo, in which Chinese POV editors and Korean POV editors wrangled over whether or not to put Chinese viewpoint on the country, mainly derived from the Northeast Project. I filed a sock puppetry case on user Ksyrie (later Nlu changed suspected sock puppet to Assault11) & did some serious research into all of the accused' history & possible IP addresses.
However, I found some missing links that blocked me from getting a final conclusion. Therefore, to clarify those missing links, I asked the accused to provide me their IP addresses.
And then, Assault11 replied, "Wow....stupid" questions like this? If anything, it would be in your utmost interest to NOT further reduce your stature by succumbing to non sequiturs." I had always suspected Assault11 to be sock puppet, & the fact that he was protesting this badly further strengthened my preconception.
I replied, "I don't know why you'd react that way, unless you were really a sock puppet & really unwilling to tell me your IP address. I already know, but I want to find out who's lying. Why, is this against the rules?"
Then admin Nlu said that "unless you were really a sock puppet" was inappropraite & would necessitate a ban in future cases. Since his reasoning sounded absurd & perhaps out of this frustration that he might have had against me for effectively rebutting all of his arguments in the dispute. So, I requested Nlu to get other admins to voice their opinion on the issue.
The entire deal was that Nlu wasn't going to categorize my comment as a personal attack until midst of the debate, which had already defined what Nlu had to go for (which is personal attack) in order to respond effectively.
In midst of the debate I posted this not to Nlu, "At the same time, I'd like all others -Ksyrie, Yeahsoo, Time of flight, and Assault11, to reply to my request." Then Nlu posted "Stricken as improper; do it again and a block will result." I had clarified in debate that a discussion was 2-sided & required both consent of the demanding and demanded in order for the results of the discussion to occur. Nlu had not replied to that, & I wasn't saying "unless you're a sock puppet" this time. I was merely asking for their IP adderss & I had already clarified that asking for someone's IP address is not harmful (which Nlu failed to reply to). Nlu's mode of discussion disturbed me b/c he was constantly ignoring my explanations & continuously asserted his threat to block if I asked for IP address again. This seemed more like a personal matter now, in which Nlu was going to place his position over mine as an authority - which I realized I had to contest in order to balance the debate.
So, I contested Nlu's right as an admin to block me with a 3-pyramid logic, which he simply ignored & to which he replied "Whatever. Again, do it again you will be blocked."
I just knew that Nlu didn't have any right as an admin to say "whatever, do it again you'll be blocked." At the same time, I knew that at some point in the discourse I had to clarify the extent of my rights as a Wikipedia user and limit of Nlu's powers granted as an admin. Therefore, I used this chance, and said "Whatever? Not again... Try, and I'll talk to another admin to unblock me.".
Nlu replied "Your invitation is accepted. You have been blocked for 48 hours. Do it again after your block expires, and the block will be one week". Thus the innocent was blocked...
Here are the problems.
1) "Try" was in context in which I would ask the users for their IP address with the personal attack of them possibly being sock puppets. a) That would be a case only when I repeat "unless you're a sock puppet", but if I were simply to ask for their IP address without personal attack, the block would be invalid.
2) "another admin" was in context in which Nlu had failed to bring opinions of other admins to the table & in which I was sure that other admins would agree with me.
3) Your invitation? I have a question about that. Just exactly what did I do to satisfy the 2 conditions mentioned above (1 & 2)? I reserve full right to contest the powers of a user as an admin in case of abuse.
Thanks. (~~~~)
Personally, I can see how your comment appeared that you were challenging Nlu to block you with the claim that you could find someone else to unblock. I'm not judging, I am just letting you know that the wording wasn't clear. From my experience, Nlu is a trustworthy admin so I won't unblock, nor will I deny you an unblock. I will let another admin look this over. IrishGuy talk 07:32, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- For the context in which these statements occurred, see Wikipedia:Suspected_sock_puppets/Assault11. --Nlu (talk) 13:10, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot for understanding. When the discussion itself was on the subject of whether Nlu had the right to block me or not, & when I felt that the admin was using his/her power to mute my reasonings, of course I would have to say something that challenges Nlu as an admin. (Wikimachine 14:07, 21 March 2007 (UTC))
- Nlu did warn you three times, and you continued to push it. It was inappropriate to demand the IP address of another editor. You don't have any particular right to that information. Nor was it appropriate to try and use that demand to prove your suspicion (i.e. since the editor refused to give you his/her IP, that must mean he/she is guilty of something). IrishGuy talk 16:00, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- Please don't make me the aggressor here. I didn't continue to push for "unless you are a sock puppet". Nlu simply ignored by reasonings.
- I reasoned to him that yes I'm not entitled to people's IP address -however, it's up to the people whom I ask to provide their IP adderss or not, not Nlu. This was the point I was getting at.
- You see admin Irishguy, I am going to be treated as a human being and no more. If I see that somebody's threatening me with such things as IP block & at the same time ignoring my posts - simply denying my rights to discuss the matter with the admin, I'm going to protest. (Wikimachine 16:46, 21 March 2007 (UTC))
- Nlu did warn you three times, and you continued to push it. It was inappropriate to demand the IP address of another editor. You don't have any particular right to that information. IrishGuy talk 16:00, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- Furthermore, the block was based on misunderstanding. I didn't ask them the 3rd time (only 2nd, which Nlu had crossed out & gave me 2nd warning), and "try" like "go ahead" was in a context when I would defiantly ask 3rd time & Nlu would block me. That didn't mean that I was going to risk a block by asking 3rd time, right?
- And as for any implication that you can derive from the discussion, please rethink. You can clearly see that I was arguing on a completely objective, debate-like basis. You can't read my posts with a human voice. Think of it as an automated program response. (Wikimachine 16:51, 21 March 2007 (UTC))
- Finally, it seems that you're looking at the discussion as a whole pie. However, analyze it as a time line. Once Nlu had clarified that demanding IP address w/ implication that whoever that does not provide his/her IP address = sock puppet, I never brought up "unless you're sock puppet" again. (Wikimachine 16:56, 21 March 2007 (UTC))
- Thanks a lot! I check my talk page about every 5 hours... Yay! Wikipedia's whole lot scarier than I thought. Now that I'm free to do something I don't know what to do. (Wikimachine 21:36, 21 March 2007 (UTC))

[edit]I don't know how Wikipedia's policy works, so I just thought informing you on possible sockpuppets of Assault11 would be best. I think I know who this individual is. He trolls in internet forums using sockpuppets making similar attacks on Korea, particularly with regards to Goguryeo. I believe Ksyrie and Yeashoo are unrelated. I believe these to be Assault11's sockpuppets:

And as looking at things, I doubt a consensus can be reached at Goguryeo. As long as Assault11 et al's claims are given any serious considerations, consensus will be impossible. Cydevil 07:23, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Reply: As I've said, I'm not so familiar with Wikipedia policies, so I'm not the best to intervene in these matters. As for other matters concerned, I think we need some place where we can build some consensus ourselves. I've suggested a community at Daum. Any thoughts? Cydevil 12:17, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Archive?
[edit]I was wondering if you could archive part of the talkpage at Talk:Comfort women? It's 415 kilobytes long... eeeee, and I'd probably break it if I tried. Cheers, oncamera(t) 18:43, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- Just wait. I've got to turn off computer now. Wait. Thanks? (Wikimachine 18:44, 26 March 2007 (UTC))
- Oh, whenever you have time is fine. I should thank you? Thanks, oncamera(t) 18:46, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- No, I had this thought that only admins could archive & you had mistaken me as an admin. That's why I put a question mark at the end. I'm really sorry. (Wikimachine 20:31, 26 March 2007 (UTC))
- Oh, I think admins are a little too busy to be archiving pages and I figured you would know how to do it... just because. Haha, anyway, thanks again, oncamera(t) 20:46, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Jue song hab ni da.
[edit]Sorry Wikimachine. The page for the Wikipedia: Association of International Wikipedians was finally deleted. :( I guess my effort was for nothing. Anyways, there will be another chance and I will do a better job next time. I think the administrators wanted to delete it cause it was too poor in quality. Next time, I will elaborate and extend the page. For now, let's just forget about AINW. Your logo is not gone, fortunately. So, no great losses were caused. :)
- You said that you liked animes. I prefer mangas instead. They contain more stories and has better art (it's just my opinion). I don't like love hina anymore. Yes, it is true that it has ecchi in it, and that is one of the reasons why I don't like love hina anymore. The one that I currently like, or my favorite, is negima (mahou sensei negima, magic teacher negima, magister magi negima, 마법 선생 네기마, 魔法 先生 耐氣魔). It contains beautiful art (only the manga) and the story line is awesome, especially the part with the action/magic. It's from the same author of love hina (rabu hina, 러브 in 러브). After refreshing from the stress (seems like you were in some trouble too), lets start a fresh new life in Wikipedia (all languages) again! Ahn neung until we meet again! Orthodoxy 15:12, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I still regret that I let the admins delete AINW. It had 5 members before the last second it was deleted. :( Don't watch the anime for negima. It sucks. It might seem like one of those one guy with 50 billion girls, but it is really an action/magic story. Just go through the first 2~3 volumes, then the story line will get very interesting. I bet that you will regret later for not reading this. I 100% guarantee that you will enjoy it. This might be a random question, but are you a student (high, mid, elemen, but not college)? I am sorry if this was impolite. I was just curious. As you have already guessed, I am a middle schooler. Orthodoxy 20:56, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
You specified in your revert summary that you are doing this (ie. reverting) because I did not respond to your claim on my talk page stating: "I don't think a wiki is usable [...] as a source". What kind of response do you expect to this? If you think that wikis are unreliable then what are you doing here at Wikipedia? Perhaps making it unreliable too by removing relevant information.
Anyway, the fan problem is very real and I have a first-hand experience with this as a user of several ThinkPads. If you, for some unclear reason, are not satisfied with the two sources I've given, feel free to find one that is better-suited to your expectations. But it just so happens that the two most-informative independent sources for information about ThinkPads are a wiki and a forum. And I don't see a problem with Wikipedia referencing information from another, well-established wiki. Do you? Piotras 19:12, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- You are removing true, relevant information from the article. And this is wrong, no matter what rationale you give to support your POV. The rules you are quoting are abstract and good for all usual encyclopedia topics but impossible to satisfy in such articles, because there are hardly any books or scientific journal articles about ThinkPads.
- There's even a user-contributed application to control the fan [1], the whole story is really not a hallucination. Now if you don't question that the story is true, an example of productive behaviour would be to find a better source for Wikipedia citation. Why don't you do that? Piotras 18:29, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, you're wrong again. I don't have any "sock puppets". You can report your suspicions wherever you feel like; I am not afraid because I'm innocent. On the contrary, I challenge you to do it, because now it looks as if you are letting a caught criminal loose because of your benevolence and this is really insulting to me as I haven't done anything wrong. So, report me now, waste everyone's time again, like you're wasting mine now. I only hope when I am cleared of this ridiculous accusation, you will have the guts to apologise. Anyway, it's getting pathetic, off-topic and unproductive and as Karnesky (possibly my another sockpuppet, too?) has proposed a version that will probably stay, the case is closed for me. BTW Is there a Wikipedia policy against unfounded accusations? Piotras 23:55, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

elaborate and formal letter?
[edit]Hi. I saw you listed on WP:ABUSE as a contacter who can write elaborate and formal letters. I have been tracking a problematic case of vandalism from a dynamic IP address located in Thailand. I have done all of the investigation and am more than willing to write the letter, but I don't know what to say! I was wondering if you had a sample letter or an old one you have written that you would be willing to forward to me. In case your curious, this page lays out their particular modus operandi. Regarding your imflammatory remark on User talk:76.202.59.116
[edit]Please assume good faith in your dealings with other editors, which you did not on User talk:76.202.59.116. Please stop being uncivil to your fellow editors; instead, assume that they are here to improve Wikipedia. Thank you.
- You are making some awfully big assumptions about someone you've never met. I'm not sure why you can't find a way to be civil here. The reason that your template was deleted was that I was cleaning up unrelated vandalsim on the Virigina Tech page. The information about the shooter being Koren had not yet made it to the local news, and it appeared to be non-sequitar. If you don't belive me, take a gander at my contribution history for that evening.
- As you can see, I have not re-reverted this. I would have apologized for the error had you simply said "Not sure if you're aware, but the shooter was Korean... that's the connection." Instead though, you decided to blow your top and take it personnally. You assumed that I was being "rude" and targeting you. Your subsequent replies reaffirm the fact that you don't seem to know how to interact with other people here.
- Really... please... read through WP:Assume good faith and WP:No personal attacks and m:Don't be a dick. There's a reason that they are there.--76.202.59.116 19:16, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
- If you hadn't noticed, we aren't having an argument over content. You are getting all mad over an edit that you feel was malicious (rude), and I'm telling you to chill out and not assume everyone's out to get you.
- And, for the record, your timeline's a bit off bud... I (incorrectly) removed the template, you threw a little temper tantrum on the talk page, and THEN I told you to be civil. I have not re-reverted this back.
- The reason that I was editing as an anon is because I was cleaning up vandalism at the time. I do have an account and have contributed to a number of pages. I figure if a vandal is going to vandalize a talk page in retaliation, it might as well be an anon talk page.--76.202.59.116 19:30, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
- I can see that we aren't getting anywhere here. I'll break this down into little bite sized chunks for you:
- I did not delete your tag because I was trying to be rude. YOU are the one that assumed that. I was removing it because, at the time, it didn't seem to belong. My edit was made in good faith (as I've been trying to get you to understand).
- After you lambasted me for deleting your tag, I learned (not through you) that the shooter was Korean, and so I did not remove it another time. YOU are the one that is assuming that I have deleted it multiple times under a diffent userIDs. I'm afraid that this assumption just plain isn't true.
- I am not arguing over whether the tag should be there. I never was. I have a problem with the way you are choosing to talk to me. As I can see in your talk page, you've had the same problem with other people that you've interacted with on Wikipedia. Even when you are right, it doesn't give you right to act uncivilly.
- I can see that you haven't taken me up on my offer to look at my contrib history for that evening. Perhaps if you did, you'd rethink your assumptions about me. I spent the better part of an hour chasing down folks who were in the process of vandalising multiple pages at a time (including Virginia Tech Massacre). I guess that'll teach me to help people out, huh?
- I've explained why I do not log on with my userID, and I will continue to do things as I have done them in this respect. I appreciate your suggestion, but it's been filed appropriately.--76.202.59.116 00:52, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
- I can see that we aren't getting anywhere here. I'll break this down into little bite sized chunks for you:
- To answer your question, these comments were not particularly appreciated:
- "If it's not our business, sir, we'll make it our business." (uncivil)
- "It was very rude of you to remove the template." (doesn't assume good faith)
- "Sheer arrogance. " (personal attack)
- "I really don't like anon. IP addresses telling me what to do."
- "Ah, arrogance re-affirmed." (personal attack)
- "Uh-huh, keep making leeways out" (doesn't assume good faith)
- And, yes, I did invite you to take a look at my contrib history:
- "If you don't belive me, take a gander at my contribution history for that evening."
- As I have said before, had you originally said "There is a connection to Korea... the shooter was a Korean citizen...," I probably would have apoligized for the error and left it at that. That's the best way work these things out - in a civil way, assuming that everyone else is acting in good faith (until you are proven otherwise). That is why I encouraged you to read those articles.--76.202.59.116 03:15, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Please read before accusing
[edit]You mentioned in an edit summary that I only rv, not discuss. However, I might draw your attention to a diff here where I mentioned the reason for the change, where I agree with several other editors on the page. Perhaps you missed this? In any event, if you did see this and posted anyway, saying I don't discuss is misleading at best. --Cheers, Komdori 23:31, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
- I read the comment on my talk page, but it's not really correct. This is not a chat service. You said I didn't respond to the comment you left after my change, but it was less than 10 minutes. Leave a good 24 hours (or more) before saying someone doesn't respond. Anyway, I understand how tensions run high, though, especially on an article like this, so no big deal.

Respectful
[edit]Wikimachine,
I just wanted to leave you a note thanking you for being (generally) respectful and overall civil so far. This talk page has exploded with discussion, and I'm happy to see that no one involved has even thought about instigating a move/edit war. I regret a bit we're on opposing sides of where the name goes (although I'd like to think we have the same overall intent in heart. I'd hate to see the name flipped over to Takeshima someday based on similar reason to what's going on there, things change, google morphs slowly, and such). I hope we're firmly on the same side of an argument sometime, no one will stand a chance :P
If you ever see me say something you think is out of line or a low blow, tell me on my talk page and I'll probably just remove it. (I don't think anything like this happened so far, and probably won't, just in case.)
Thanks again for keeping a level head. --Cheers, Komdori 15:46, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- I just saw the comment you left on my talk page; maybe I wasn't clear enough--I wasn't asking you to be more respectful, you've overall been great so far! (Plus didn't I read somewhere you bench like 300 pounds or something? I don't go around telling people like that to respect me more, no matter if they're a lot younger or not!) (heheh, j/k) :P --Cheers, Komdori 15:54, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
Anti-Korean
[edit]Wikimachine,
I felt I was droning on too much on the sockpuppet page, but wanted to mention something to you. One reason I hit a bunch of the Korean pages in terms of content and pictures, and was (and am) strict on insisting on references, etc., was because I think that it's better to have a Korean do these edits than someone else. I think it is more discouraging and hurts more when certain other people come along and tag the pictures/hit up for citations, etc. It might make some editors get discouraged and stop contributing all together. I don't focus only on Korean pages, but I am more interested in general in those topics than others (you seem to say I am more interested in Japan than Korea on the sockpuppet page, but in reality I think I demonstrate a trend toward Korea with things like editing heavily in both Japan-Korea and China-Korea disputes).
One problem, though, that I realised. The more I did this, I realised the task is very big, there are very many pictures and very many uncited things, and many "opinions" that need to be fixed. I wound up editing so much this way that I guess you (and others) have not seen this as necessarily being with good intention. While no one is saying I'm doing anything wrong, they seem to think there is an anti-Korean person doing this, which is the whole thing I was trying to avoid.
It's easier to find things that are wrong than things that are right, so I would be happy to join in a WikiProject if there is one that has some areas that need work for Korean pages. If you have some suggestions to this end, please let me know. I am from around Daegu, so most I know is from around there, but I really know a lot of general stuff, too, and would be happy to share.
And I want to say I think there is nothing personal on the sock puppet page, I am not happy you filed it, and it is not correct, but I believe it is not personal. --Cheers, Komdori 20:45, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Hi
[edit]Yep, I'm semi-active again. Been a little busy; starting up a freelance translation practice along with my day job, plus there was a rather long and disaster-filled trip to the US in there somewhere. Thanks for noticing. Hope things are going well with you. Cheers, -- Visviva 17:26, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
This survey is likely to generate a lot of very heated debate. As I said there are hundreds of kilobytes of data in the archives, if people start to copy chunks of it back then this page will rapidly get too big. If one person copies back a section (not just a small paragraph) then there will be no justification in stopping others doing the same thing. --Philip Baird Shearer 19:31, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
Hi!
[edit]Hello Wikimachine. I noticed that you draw pictures of copyrighted images. I was wondering, since I've been editing the Shen Kuo article (up for Featured Article Status), if you would be so gracious as to redraw an image of him from this wiki link: Shen Kua.jpg. It is not proven to be public domain, and if you could spend some time in the next month you could be so kind as to redraw his image. No other free image of him exists online, and his article looks awkward in the lead with an infobox without his picture! Thanks so much.--PericlesofAthens 02:31, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
- Awesome, dude! I owe you one.--PericlesofAthens 07:35, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
My edits to Japanese invasions of Korea (1592-1598)
[edit]Hi
I found the mistake of Japanese general's name.
Matsuura -> Matsura [2] Sagara Yoriyasu -> Sagara Yorifusa [3] ITo Yubei -> Ito Suketaka [4]
so I edited it. I wish you could understand hiragana.
- Since you seem very familiar with it, perhaps you could. We treat articles individually. If I propose a change there and they say "look at the Dokdo page" then neither can be changed. It doesn't work that way. --Cheers, Komdori 21:11, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Komdori
[edit]I have a little suspicion that Kodori is actually a Japanese acting as a Korean, because, he says exactly what Japanese users would say, and have very little loyalty towards Korea but Japan. I know that it is immportant to be neutral, but he is too pro-Japanese. I hate to feel it this way, but, I have a great suspicion that Komdori is Japanese. Also, wife do not normally say "Komdori" to her husband.
If he is a Japanese User:
He named his user a Korean name to trick.
He pretends that he is an american just to act like as if he is neutral..
If he is not:
He must moved to USA when he was young.
He must not have any Korean education.
He had some American and Japanese influence while he was at USA.
He must not know his identity.
I hope you take this seriously. --Kingj123 21:42, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
FACTORS CREATING SUSPICION
LEAN TOWARDS JAPANESE POV AND TRY AS MUCH AS HE CAN TO OPPOSE MANY KOREAN VIEWS OF DOKDO WHICH IS UNUSUAL FOR KOREANS BORNED IN KOREA WITH KOREAN EDUCATION.
HE WRITE LIKE A TYPICAL JAPANESE WRITER IN ENGLISH.
KOMDORI OR ANY OTHER DOMESTIC NAMES ARE NOT NORMALLY USED BY WIVES WHEN CALLING THEIR HUSBANDS.
HE DOES NOT TELL THE KOREAN NICKNAME FOR HIS WIFE, BUT IT MEANS SMILE IN ENGLISH.
HE DOES NOT RESPOND WHEN I ASKED HIM TO SPEAK IN KOREAN.
GENERALLY, MARRIED COUPLES DO NOT CALL EACHOTHER NICKNAMES.
NICKNAMES ARE EASY TO MAKE UP BY SIMPLY USING A TRANSLATOR.
HE HAD A CONVERSATION WITH ME DURING BUSINESS HOURS, THIS INDICATES THAT HE IS NOT EMPOLYED ALTHOUGH HE IS MARRIED.
FROM THIS, I BELIEVE THAT KOMDORI IS NOT MARRIED EITHER.
I NO LONGER HAVE APPOLOGY FOR KODORI BECAUSE:
ALTHOUGH I ASKED HIM TO PROVE HIMSELF SEVERAL TIMES, HE DOES NOT.
IF HE IS INDEED A JAPANESE PRETENDING TO BE A KOREAN:
HE TRIES TO PRETEND THAT HE IS KOREAN BY PUTTING THE KOREAN NAME AS HIS USER NAME.
HE ACTS LIKE AN AMERICAN, PRETEND TO BE NEUTRAL BUT SUPPORTING JAPAN IN REALITY.
HE CONTRIBUTES TO SOME OF THE KOREAN ARTICLES TO PROTECT HIMSELF FROM BEING SUSPECTED.
KEEP IN MIND: HIS MAIN CONCERN IS DOKDO, NOTHING ELSE.
Kingj123 03:22, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- Kingj, what difference does it make to Komdori's contributions whether s/he is Korean, Japanese and/or American? (NB I'm not saying Komdori is not Korean.) There is no place for ethnic “loyalty” here, and it should certainly not be brought into any arguments. I'm tired of Korean and other nationalism in Wikipedia. Wikipeditor 14:58, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
I would take this one step further and say Komdori and Parceboy are working hand and hand to harrass anyone who shows even the slightest tendancy to be pro-Korean. If you look at my talk page as well as Komdori's and Parceboy's it's clear with the accusations Parceboy was making against me were harrassment. Komdori defended Parceboy both on a talk page and in an admin complaint I filed (which I really wonder how he found out about that). Both of their shit stink to high heaven. Shen Kuo image
[edit]Hi Wikimachine, how's it going. So, how's that Shen Kuo drawing coming along? It doesn't have to be too elaborate or grandiose, like DaVinci's Mona Lisa or anything (lol). Take your time, but at the same time, realize that it's been up for FAC status for a while, and it would be good to get that image in as soon as possible (preferably within the next 4 or 5 days).--PericlesofAthens 00:19, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
- Another question: are you planning on adding color to his image? That would be cool.--PericlesofAthens 00:21, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
- Dude, Wikimachine, you are awesome. Words do not describe how cool you are at this moment. Your drawing is amazing (love the shading). You are the best thing since sliced bread and the reclining sofa. You sir, are just a notch below the deity known as the almighty Chuck Norris in my view. From a mere insect who does not deserve even a punch in the face from you, as it would be too kind, I grant you ten thousand 'thank yous'.--PericlesofAthens 01:28, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
CO2 car
[edit]Just wanted to say that I saw the picture of your wooden CO2 dragster. I made one just like it when I was in middle school, several years ago. It brought back memories of cutting, filing, and sanding a wood block into a dragster. (Mine won the class race, by the way) Parsecboy 02:30, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
Re. Invalid votes
[edit]Hello. I did not determine an exact percentage in order to decide whether or not there was consensus in this proposal. Still, the meat/sockpuppet accusations against the Dokdo side are real and a big concern. I doubt that the article will be moved back, but feel free to present information about meat/sockpuppeting on the Liancourt Rocks side. Regards, Húsönd 17:58, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- The article was not "moved that easily to Liancourt Rocks". It took me some time to review my closure after several users complained. I analyzed their arguments and evidence, and after carefully perusing the discussion I found it adequate to overturn my decision. That is why I doubt the article will be moved back, I find it hard that me or any other admin reviewing this will deem it reasonable to overturn yet again. Regards, Húsönd 19:37, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not going through the whole thing again, sorry. I have reviewed the proposal and came to a conclusion. It is you who may pinpoint new evidence, not me who must provide a detailed essay about my decision making. :-/ This was a tough case, and no solution would prevent me from getting complaints. The current name is, above all, the best WP:NPOV solution and I may in fact evoke that policy as a solid justification for my last decision. Húsönd 19:51, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- You are free to contact any admin for a second opinion. Check the history on WP:RM in order to find admins who often close the debates there. Húsönd 22:08, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Archives
[edit]The archiving of debates on page moves when they have been as acrimonious is quite common. It draws a line under the debate. You will notice that I did the same when it appeared that the debate had gone the other way.([5] Move to archive 10]move to archive 11) If you copy large chunks of the old debate onto the current talk page I will delete it again. I would direct you to what Husond wrote above in the section #Re. Invalid votes --Philip Baird Shearer 23:23, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
As a response to the comments you left on my talk page: You aren't trying to present evidence on the meatpuppet/sockpuppet on the Liancourt Rocks side, you're trying to fiddle with every little bit about the poll in general. Even if the Liancourt Rocks people were in the minority, they could still win because their arguments were based on policy, and their votes had valid rationales. Try to move forward and if you still want, try building a consensus for a new name in the future. As Philip said, perhaps you'd have more luck putting support behind a compromise version. —LactoseTIT 23:26, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- I am trying to present a data. Personal analysis first, and then statistical analysis. (Wikimachine 23:27, 29 May 2007 (UTC))
- This is precisely why the RM conditions were changed so that it isn't by a set numerical percentage (although we did meet that, too). These long drawn out battles really don't matter, the rationales do. —LactoseTIT 23:30, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- There should be no difference in performing the data analysis on my user page & at the talk page. If you don't mind at what I am doing, there should be no disruption. The admin suggested that I do it, and I will do it.
- And I am not trying to contest some sort of numeric percentage, but trying to attack the rationale of meat puppetry. (Wikimachine 23:32, 29 May 2007 (UTC))
- Ah, if that's all it is then you can stop now if it makes your life easier. In the end, the closing admin chose to stand on NPOV as the main reason, and cited meatpuppetry/sockpuppetry as somewhat of a sidenote. If anything, the mass violations caused him to look at the situation more. As for the data, link to it, but if you try to clutter up the talk page with an endless discussion, don't be surprised if people will try to move on. As far as I know, no one went to such great lengths last time around, they were patient, built a new consensus, and the article moved. —LactoseTIT 23:35, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

- When the opposing party has clearly indicated that he will revert my future edits, I see my response as very moderate & controlled. (Wikimachine 23:28, 29 May 2007 (UTC))
I have not said I will revert your edits. Indeed if you look at the talk page, you will see that I was careful to put back the two new paragraphs you had added to the talk page that I accidentally deleted when deleting the old debate that had been cut and pasted from an archive. What I said above was "If you copy large chunks of the old debate onto the current talk page I will delete it again" --Philip Baird Shearer 23:37, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- But the data analysis began just today, Philip. Just a few hours ago. Your act of archival made it "old". But it's new. (Wikimachine 23:40, 29 May 2007 (UTC))
I agree that Philip should not be archiving stuff from today, however... he has a point that you're generating way too much content there. You should create a subpage for analysis, and post results and examples (not the complete analysis) on the main talk page. Flooding the page is not good form. Georgewilliamherbert 00:55, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
hi
[edit]Dear Wikimachine,
I would recommend that you use a subpage, either within your own userspace or as Talk:Liancourt Rocks/Poll analysis (or whatever). There may not be any reason you can't use the talkpage itself, but at this point it's not likely to accomplish much. Posting further arguments there today (or tomorrow) will only lead to people shouting at each other; once nerves have settled and tempers have cooled somewhat, it may be possible to revisit the issue in a sensible way. So IMO it's probably better to accumulate and organize the data as you see fit, and then link to it from the talk page once it's ready. But you are of course free to do whatever seems best to you. Cheers, -- Visviva 03:42, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- I don't get why posting such data will lead to people shouting at each other, but what I don't like is Philip using archive to shut out disagreeable opinions. And especially his (Lactose's) condescending attitude (was it something like "calm down") as if I'm a very irritable child - I don't like it. But I'll give in. (Wikimachine 14:28, 30 May 2007 (UTC))
Hi Wikimachine
[edit]Hey dude. Once again, great job on the Shen Kuo pic.
I don't know if this is asking way too much, but I was thinking recently...and realized it would look awesome if there was a pic in the Career and Later Life section of Shen Kuo mounted on a horse as a military general while commanding Song Dynasty forces in the campaign against the Tanguts. I know I rushed you a bit before with the lead pic, but this is different. This is something that can take a while and something that a lot of effort can be poured into to make the drawing or painting look superb. If you don't feel like you're up to the task, I would be very grateful if you could point me into the direction of another Wikipedia artist who would not mind creating images for articles. Otherwise, we can talk about how to approach making such a drawn image from scratch. Thanks!--PericlesofAthens 04:44, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hi again Wikimachine. Here is a pic, as you requested; it's a statue of a Song Dynasty general (right below a Ming Dynasty one). You won't believe this, but the previous page of that history forum has paintings of Chinese soldiers in their uniforms for every single dynasty except the Song! Well, looking at them all, you might also get some further ideas.
- I think it would be good to have Shen Kuo mounted on his horse holding a jian (<-- picture in article), the Chinese double-edged swords that were symbolic of nobility (while the one-edged sword, the Dao (sword), was used by common soldiers). The view of the pic could be looking slightly upwards at Shen Kuo from either the right or left, with possibly one or two soldiers in the foreground view (standing next to Shen's horse).
- However, instead of a picture of Shen Kuo on his horse, there could easily be a picture of Shen Kuo strolling along the top of a Chinese defensive-fort wall, looking over the perimeter with his military advisors and guards (and instead of holding a sword, he could be viewing a map in his hands). In any case, feel free to be creative!--PericlesofAthens 17:12, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- Also, for further reference on costumes, look at Yue Fei's article.--PericlesofAthens 17:15, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- This Ming era tomb guardian pic might give you some ideas.--PericlesofAthens 17:28, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- Also, for further reference on costumes, look at Yue Fei's article.--PericlesofAthens 17:15, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- Well, Shen Kuo was a 50 year old man when he was entrusted with the command of the campaign, not 70 or 80. I would give him at least light armor (of the Lamellar armour metal type, of course).--PericlesofAthens 17:42, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- So, which scenario is more appealing to you? Shen Kuo mounted on a horse? Standing on top of a castle wall? Or something else that's even better?--PericlesofAthens 18:02, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- So have you chosen a scenario yet that you like the most? Are you going to do the one with Shen on the horse? Or...?--PericlesofAthens 21:03, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- Cool, I must have accidentally skipped over one of your responses while reading my talk page, and not realized that you had chosen the wall pic. I hope you haven't painted much of it yet, because I don't think you'd find too many rice paddies up in Yan'an in Shaanxi province, northern China. Maybe some wheat and millet. Lol.--PericlesofAthens 08:52, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hey wiki, I'm drunk right now, and helping my buddy sort problems out with his wife, but I'll take a small second to butt in and say No, Shaanxi is friggin dry, dude. There are mountains, but really the Tanguts lived in an area that was a drier landscape than southern or even central China. It's more desertous than anything, think deserts and flat plains and desert cliffs (although southern Shaanxi province has some normal wooded parts like the rest of central China). Anyways, there's some stupid drama I have to attend to right now. My buddy's marriage is a little shaky at the moment, and it's time to for me to get the hell off of my computer. Peace!--PericlesofAthens 08:44, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- Haha, no I'm fine, I was drunk last night though. Yeah man, if you're looking for good pics on what I'm talking about, this site should help. There's some good pics of Northern Shaanxi there. Once again, thanks for all the help.--PericlesofAthens 17:30, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
re:barnstar
[edit]thank you for the barnstar and good luck with wikipedia.
I suggest you take interest in other quieter subjects. Dokdo or Goguryeo might have you pulling your hair out in frustration. =)
But, it wouldnt be a bad idea editing on controversial articles. Probably the best we could do is make Korea or its related articles as a featured article, if you ever want to get attention from english speakers that it isn't a third world country.
And most english speakers probably do not think Korea as stupid from what I see from my peers and teachers and their attutide, which is pretty good towards Korea (some don't even know about Korea hahaha)
I probably will come back later, I'm working for my final exams which are coming in 2 weeks. have fun and good luck and don't let anybody make you angry. Good friend100 02:44, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Shen Kuo for WM Commons
[edit]Hi again Wikimachine. I am curious, do you have a Wikimedia Commons account? If so, that would be cool if you could upload the Shen Kuo image (Shen Kuo.JPG) to Wikimedia Commons so that other wiki language sites of the Shen Kuo article can use the same image (upgrading from the earlier crappy one). All you would have to do is specify that it's your own work, and that's pretty much it!
Take care, and good luck with that oil painting! I'm sure it will be fantastic.--PericlesofAthens 20:12, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hm. I'm pretty sure you're supposed to make a new page, but I could be wrong! Let me find who to consult about this.--PericlesofAthens 22:06, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hey Wikimachine. There's some message up on your image for Shen Kuo.JPG about it being deleted soon, although I don't know exactly why. Go check that out and try to sort that problem out with an administrator, because I don't know why your picture should be deleted! There's no reason for that.--PericlesofAthens 02:40, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Kibun Hwa and Nunchi
[edit]I was going to use: http://newsletter.kf.or.kr/english/contents.asp?vol=58&lang=English&no=639 as the main source If Korean Paralanguage doesn't fit, how about an article like Honne_and_tatemae for the title? So kibun, hwa and Nunchi. Each culture has it's own descriptors for basic principles of the language. American English tries to emphasize accommodation and individualism. I want to combine them because they aren't independent of each other, but are part of a larger idea of Korean communication and often interact. --Hitsuji Kinno 22:59, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
Anime and Manga
[edit]I did my High School Senior Thesis on it. I encourage you to watch things that are more old school as well. That way when you say, yeah I know Galaxy Express 999 and Maetel.. people will be impressed. You seem to like Shounen, so here's a rough list of relatively unknown, but historic anime.
- Any thing Matsumoto Leiji If you haven't watch Yamoto, then you've basically devoided yourself of American Sci-fi references too. - Tezuka--particularly the *original* Tesuwan Atomu (the first mech ever) and Jungle Tatei. - I somewhat recommend Akira Toriyama's older work like Dr. Slump for mechanics. - Imagawa's work... you can't go wrong. - Miyazaki's work. - And even though it's not anime, you *have* to rent Kurozawa if you want to understand all those samurai fights. Seven Samurai, if not Rashomon. - Ruroni Kenshin is a good anime in general. - And because I'm a brat that likes to prove that anime is not all sex and violence, though you may dislike it, Hime-chan no Ribbon. It's cute, it's shoujo. It's magical girl. It's good for that brat at the convention circuit that thinks that anime is all sex and violence. At least I'm not subjecting your to Magical Magician Marybell (My argument that not all anime is meant for teenagers) or making you watch Peach Girl (No magic or mech.) - Heat Guy J is brilliant. Escaflowne too. (But then I have a thing for that director/character designer combo) - Also check out Crunchyroll, they tend to be gaming anime heavy, but it has lots of titles. The previous list is more encouragement to look into older unknown anime so you can say you are a guru. Just because it doesn't have computer graphics, doesn't make it bad... in fact you'll be amazed what they can do without computers. --Hitsuji Kinno 18:05, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
Oh, one more thing
[edit]I have to say, Wikimachine, you have done an incredible job on the Imjin War. Great article, and I like your painting of the Joseon era soldier. Very cool.--PericlesofAthens 19:03, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

History of Manchuria
[edit]Wikimachine, i wont adopt a cautious CPOV, because at first i'm a French-Korean and i love Korean-related things (history, culture etc...) i'm fighting against exagerated POV regardless their nationality (CPOV,KPOV, JPOV etc...). Oh boy
[edit]It is of no surprise to me that the Goguryeo article is still a tattered war zone. I don't want to start a war on the talk page or anything, but I think I might end up provoking some hostilities from the Chinese users about what I think of Manchuria's history.
I've read much of what has already been posted. I think you guys have pretty much exhausted the Korean and Chinese history records and definitions of place names to the point where my comments would have little substance or sway on people's minds that are already made up. Honestly I'm sick and tired of reading the claims of various users there that Goguryeo was a distinctive part of Chinese history, not Korean, simply because Manchuria is part of the PRC today, and was part of several past Chinese empires such as the Qing. But are we to say that the Xianbei were Chinese? That the Khitans were Chinese? That the Jurchens/Manchus were Chinese? Following the logic of "the Chinese were there at one point before and controlled it, it is therefore undeniably Chinese", I could simply apply that to Russia and Japan --> "The Japanese conquered it at one point, so therefore, by default it is Japanese". OR --> "The Russians controlled much of it at one point, therefore Goguryeo is a Russian kingdom". Silly.
I think people are ignoring the fact that Manchuria is and has been a melting pot of many different cultures. Although it is part of the People's Republic of China today, there are many non-Chinese who live there, and hold distinctly separate cultures. Geographically, yes, Manchuria is part of Northeast China. However, I find it funny that Chinese use this as a means to say Goguryeo was "Chinese" (very simplistic reasoning there), when they forget the fact that half of its kingdom consisted of what is today North Korea, that the language spoken by the people of Goguryeo is anything but Chinese, and that they were hostile and were put on the defensive to both the Sui and Tang dynasties. Goguryeo might have been heavily sinicized, but so were Silla and Baekje. I don't hear any Chinese claiming that the latter two were Chinese kingdoms simply because they were influenced to a large extent by Chinese culture.--PericlesofAthens 14:38, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
