These editors have volunteered to help to keep the checkuser requests page organized and the process running smoothly. The clerks help to correct mis-formatted requests, and archive completed requests. The clerks do not have access to privileged information.

Clerk team

[edit]

The following users are currently providing assistance. They are listed here for ease of contact and coordination with the checkusers.

Active clerks

[edit]

Away

[edit]

Clerks who are on a known period of temporary absence (eg., wikibreak).

Comments

[edit]
  • Please add your name to the list above if you wish to help out regularly, and remove yourself if/when you do not intend to contribute further. It is hoped that the law of supply and demand will avoid both a small, overworked clerk corps and a large, bored one. Users may periodically be removed, if they make no edits in the "RFCU namespace" for some time; this hopefully will produce no hard feelings, and you are entirely welcome to add your name back, if you return to clerking. If you are on a wikibreak and do not wish to be removed, you are free to move your entry on the team list above to "away."
  • Clerks should be users who are in relatively good standing within the community, and are experienced with Wikipedia. Clerks should have a good working knowledge of Wikipedia policy, especially in the area of sockpuppets and the situations where checkuser is important. Clerks are asked to keep the this page and its talk page on their watchlist to be kept informed of procedural changes and requests from the checkusers.
  • Trust between the clerks and the checkusers is essential: clerks who persistently make problematic comments on requests or otherwise violate decorum may be asked by the checkusers to cease contributing here. Be aware that this position is rather dull and carries no particular prestige; status-seeking will not be looked upon kindly.

Guide

[edit]

A guide to clerk activities can be found at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Procedures. This provides an overview of what clerks should do, shouldn't do, as well as examples of how to go about it. Editors interested in clerking should thoroughly review, and familiarise themselves with, the contents of that page, and be under no confusion as to this process' operations before commencing clerk duties.

If you have any queries whatsoever, you may raise them at Wikipedia talk:Requests for checkuser, or directly to an active clerk (list, above). It is better to ask questions now, than to make mistakes later!

Inter-clerk discussion

[edit]

The Clerks previously held a noticeboard (the "Clerks' Noticeboard"). This was depreciated, in favour of having all RfCU-related discussion held on Wikipedia talk:Requests for checkuser, and the Noticeboard no longer exists. If you require assistance on a checkuser matter, or have a query for the (other) clerks, please post at WT:RFCU.

IRC channel

[edit]

There is an IRC channel #wikipedia-en-checkuser-clerks for coordination among clerks and between clerks and checkusers, though it is asked that clerks do the majority of their communication on-wiki for the purpose of transparency. If you would like to use the IRC channel, please ask AGK or Tiptoety for an invite exception and auto-voice.

Historical note

[edit]

Prior to the present clerking system being implemented, a team of appointed clerks performed these functions. A table of editors who served as clerks under the old system is kept for historical interests at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Clerks/Table. The current system is now on a voluntary, non-appointed basis.
