The Case of the Missing Hit moved to draftspace
An article you recently created, The Case of the Missing Hit, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. John B123 (talk) 08:44, 27 March 2020 (UTC)
Hi, sorry. I thought it was a draft! I didn't intend to submit it yet. Thanks for catching it, John. 10:43, 27 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Claudio Silveira Silva, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Church, Soriano and Cardona (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Message From A Mitchie-ite
Hi there! Name's Finn, and as you may have already noticed, I did a chunk of editing to the page you made, the one about the Machine Educable Noughts and Crosses Engine.
I'm writing partly because I realise my changes and edit summaries may have come across quite harsh. Looking at your talk page and such, you seem like a cool dude/dudette (I mean only cool people such as ourselves love programming and philosophy. Though I'm afraid I've never been partial to macaroons...), so I don't want you to think I did it out of spite. In fact, realistically, I'm a new user, so my edits probably have a lot of problems too.
Here's the deal: I'd appreciate it if you read through my edits, and gave your thoughts about them, and about general changes the page needs. Because if there's one thing we can both agree on, it's that MENACE is friggin' awesome and deserves a page of its own. So it'd be great if you could revisit the thing, because while I am determined to get the thing ready and published, I'm a WikiNoob!

- Wowza, FinnberlyRobin! Those were some really useful edits you made, you moved from WikiNoob very quickly! I really appreciate the edits, you've made great strides in making the page better. Found a few sources that we could add, as that was the issue it was sent back with:
Again, I really appreciate what you've done for the page, and am glad that someone else agrees that MENACE is awesome enough for its own page. Great work. (Also, I got the Linux Cowsay reference :) ) WikiMacaroons (talk) 10:16, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
- What a speedy reply! I'm glad you like the edits, and I'll be sure to check out those sources. One thing definitely needed after my edits is new pictures, so I'll try to find some good diagrams and whatnot.
And you get the cowsay reference!

- Yeah, FinnberlyRobin I threw together those visual aids in photoshop in about five minutes. It'd be great if you could get some new ones. We gonna get this page out, just you wait! WikiMacaroons (talk) 12:07, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
I found a very good website: http://www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/futuregames.php#menace It has what looks to be an original picture of MENACE, but I can't find any info or license or anything. There's a bunch of diagrams though. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FinnberlyRobin (talk • contribs) 12:14, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
- I'm not super well-versed in the rules of fair use on commons FinnberlyRobin, which is why I made my own graphics, but it would be great if you could get something of actual quality . Thanks, WikiMacaroons (talk) 16:34, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
- Am I overusing this emoji? WikiMacaroons (talk) 16:37, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
- Nah, it's a good one. I'm more of an emoticon person myself (^ ^) FinnberlyRobin (talk) 09:47, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
Another thing that I think would help: An entire section at the end called "Legacy" or something like that, with a sub-section on modern recreations of MENACE (physically and virtually), and maybe another sub-section about how it influenced the field - though of course we'd need a source or two for that! FinnberlyRobin (talk) 10:20, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
- Do you think there's enough of those to garner a section? If so, go ahead :)! WikiMacaroons (talk) 10:22, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
- Actually, you know what, FinnberlyRobin, that would prove the notability of MENACE! Great idea! WikiMacaroons (talk) 10:26, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
- Got a good quote already (from here):
- "From the initially random weight-like optimisation, to the way the system is rewarded or punished in specific areas of the model, it is interesting to think about how the principal of MENACE aligns with that of a modern neural network. MENACE introduced the idea of machine-human interactions via gaming, thus revealing the possibilities involved in evaluating various learning algorithms in a new environment. This experiment enabled the field of AI to have a much clearer way to test out many machine learning theories in question." FinnberlyRobin (talk) 10:34, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
- I'd like to see the New Page Reviewers look at that quote and say that MENACE isn't notable! WikiMacaroons (talk) 10:38, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
- Also a few things:
- I'm loving your edit summaries
- It's good you managed to get that picture
- I think we should get rid of the cites to that blog, as those aren't considered good sources in WP:CITE.
Keep up the good work! WikiMacaroons (talk) 10:49, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
Why thank you! Edit summaries are my new art-form of choice I guess... Also, do you mean Chalkdust (http://chalkdustmagazine.com/features/menace-machine-educable-noughts-crosses-engine/)? FinnberlyRobin (talk) 10:55, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
Wait, no, of course you don't, it's a magazine! Do you mean mscroggs? FinnberlyRobin (talk) 10:56, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
And oh boy, I think I just stumbled upon the mother of all sources! Huzzah! FinnberlyRobin (talk) 11:04, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
You genius! Huzzah! (Also yeah, Mscroggs) WikiMacaroons (talk) 11:14, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
Right, FinnberlyRobin! No more sitting around! Let's figure out the Legacy section and use of that ^ source! :) WikiMacaroons (talk) 12:49, 23 May 2020 (UTC)
FinnberlyRobin? You there? WikiMacaroons (talk) 10:15, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
- I am! My apologies for the delay. And yes, let's get this done! FinnberlyRobin (talk) 09:24, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
Uh-oh. I read more of that source written by Michie. In it he refers to MENACE as the Matchbox Educable Noughts and Crosses Engine! I've seen that spelling before, but I assumed it was a mistake. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FinnberlyRobin (talk • contribs) 09:36, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
- @FinnberlyRobin Wuh-oh. I've seen it both ways. Let's find out which one is more used and that put like in the first paragraph:
Machine Educable Noughts and Crosses Engine, otherwise known as the Matchbox Educable Noughts and Crosses Engine... blah blah. Good to have you back! WikiMacaroons (talk) 09:39, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
- Great to be back! That's a good idea, and we could then make a redirect as well. Though, if Michie himself named it with Matchbox instead of Machine, should the page itself not be renamed, and his own naming mentioned first? FinnberlyRobin (talk) 10:26, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
- @FinnberlyRobin Hmm, maybe we'd want what the man himself said. If you observe the following chart, you'll see that I looked at the first 7 sources I could find, and they favoured Matchbox. I have moved the page to Matchbox, refer to that link from now on. WikiMacaroons (talk) 11:54, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
- Oh also, unfortunately your picture was taken down off Wikimedia Commons for the reason of "No license since 2020-05-21". Sorry. WikiMacaroons (talk) 11:59, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
- Great stuff! I don't know how redirects work, and if they're supposed to be made after publication, but we should remember to make one for Machine and one for MENACE. It's kind of fascinating that that change occurred, actually. I wonder when someone first called it that.
- And yeah, an admin told me about that. It was pretty much inevitable, since I could not for the life of me find a source for that photograph who gave any info on it at all, never-mind a license. FinnberlyRobin (talk) 12:05, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
- I try not to fool around with photographs, as I can't be bothered to read all the fair use stuff. Also, FinnberlyRobin, I'll start on that "Legacy" section now. WikiMacaroons (talk) 08:25, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
- Oh, you already started it. Well, I'll continue it. WikiMacaroons (talk) 08:28, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
- Good oh! FinnberlyRobin (talk) 11:23, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
- Btw, FinnberlyRobin, after we've done the Legacy section and improved the references and inline citations, should we resubmit it for review? PS sorry I haven't furthered it yet, I've been busy. WikiMacaroons (talk) 10:53, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
- Good oh! FinnberlyRobin (talk) 11:23, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
- Ok, FinnberlyRobin! I added a ton of reliable citations and references! If you could give it a once-over looksee, to see if it's fit for re-submission, that would be great, thanks. WikiMacaroons (talk) 08:16, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
- FinnberlyRobin? I'm ready for your go-ahead! WikiMacaroons (talk) 09:54, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
- Man, I need to stop nagging you. Sorry... WikiMacaroons (talk) 09:54, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
- No no, you're fine! It's my fault, sorry, the whole thing completely escaped my mind, what with all the changing regulations and what not; you were quite right to nag. I'll look at the new changes now. FinnberlyRobin (talk) 13:22, 25 June 2020 (UTC)
- That's a lot of changes! And good ones too.
I've had a lot less experience with Wikipedia, so I'm not sure I should be the one to call whether its ready for re-submission or not. However, my best guess is that it is, as it's certainly come a long way. We've got plenty of references now, and, I think, plenty of obvious reasons why the subject is deserving of its own page. So I suppose I'd say yes, it's about done! FinnberlyRobin (talk) 13:32, 25 June 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, FinnberlyRobin! Away it goes! WikiMacaroons (talk) 14:15, 25 June 2020 (UTC)
- Huzzah, FinnberlyRobin! Matchbox Educable Noughts And Crosses Engine has been approved! Hooorayyyy! Thank you for all your hard work improving it, I wouldn't have finished it if it weren't for you. WikiMacaroons (talk) 09:11, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
- Huzzah indeed! Thanks you for all you've done as well: Had your original draft not existed, I most certainly wouldn't have known where to begin with my own, and there wouldn't be a page for it now. And, those last edits you did got the page looking really proper. It's been fun doing this with you User:WikiMacaroons! FinnberlyRobin (talk) 07:52, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
Red links
Hi, red links are not faults to be corrected. See WP:RED: "Do not remove red links unless you are certain that Wikipedia should not have an article on the subject". Since all species are notable, there should (eventually) be articles on all of them, so red links to species should not be removed. Peter coxhead (talk) 20:59, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Canadian Athletes
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Category:Canadian Athletes requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2013_January_18#Category:Canadian_athletes. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
