Vijender Kumar
Hello my friend! The final result of afd on Vijender Kumar was "keep". We need to work on getting the image back now. I am reading the rule positions on WP and will get back to you soon. Educationtemple (talk) 10:35, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
- @Educationtemple: That's nice to hear. :) Hope someone can help you with the licensing better than I did. w.carter-Talk 10:41, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
Thanks dear! I am not in favor of simply following the previous editors advise, since I believe that he was not right on the reasoning. We do not need additional email from the person in image is the image is already released under CC license. In my view, the license in place (on the source) is "CC BY 4.0", if it was "CC BY SA 4.0" then it could have been OK. If the editor would have given me this reason, I could have agreed with him, since I know the difference between CC BY 4.0 and CC BY SA 4.0 but he gave some other reason which was not valid. Hello!
Hi! I am back from Wikibreak (better say block)!
How are you?
My exams were fine. A bit lengthy!
Math was really tricky and was discussed even in the Parliament!
Well it is my time now to enjoy editing Wikipedia aGain!
aGastya ✉ let's talk about it :) 18:11, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
- Hello again! Congratulations on your exams! So, as a "reward" you get to spend some time here editing. ;) I'm fine thank you. A bit busy in real life right now and not as much time as I would like to have for the WP, but you will see me around. All the best, w.carter-Talk 20:08, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
Dark deeds
<Sith apprentice mode>Master, given our recent success in expanding the Gotland article, should we not use our dark powers to influence the 'Did you know' section?</Sith apprentice mode> Ceannlann gorm (talk) 00:20, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
<Sith apprentice mode>A possible draft my Master; Did you know......That, after a gap of eight years, Sweden has decided to reestablish a garrison on Gotland, restoring a permanent military presence that prior to 2005 had remained in place in one form or another for nearly 200 years?</Sith apprentice mode> Ceannlann gorm (talk) 08:50, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
- You enthusiasm is commendable My Young Apprentice, unfortunately our powers are no match for the DYK side of the Wikipedia. The only time an article is featured in the DYK section is if it is new, expanded more than 5 times during the last 7 days or been made a GA or FA. The criteria is here. It is no where near new, writing 5 times that amount of text in one week is a no-no since we would risk bloating the article. Taking it to GA requires an enormous amount of work (and I am already working on three GA nominations right now) + waiting in line for a review where the waiting time is approx. two months right now.
- BUT, if you are interested in military history, would like to add more to the subject regarding the military presence on Gotland and would like the new facts front and center on the main page, we can do it the sneaky way:
- Most big articles about places have other "help articles" connected to them. If you look at some other big/great articles like for example Dublin, you will see that at the top of many sections there are lines like Main article: History of Dublin or Main article: Economy of Dublin. You/we could create such an article for "Military in Gotland" and that article would be new and therefore ok to nominate for a DYK. There is a similar article called Military in Vatican City. The best way to do this is to create a draft called Draft:Military in Gotland where you can write and I can help you tweak and Wikify the text in peace and quiet without any risk of speedy deletion or anything and take as long as we like to make it ready for the main and a DYK. When it is done, it can be moved to the main and nominated for DYK. This way we are not bound by timeline for new articles or anything.
- This new article can include the same material as in the Gotland but should not just be copy-pasted, that is regarded as lazy and frowned upon. Some of the text can also be moved from the Gotland-article to the new one and a summary left there once the new article is accepted. It must also be expanded with new facts and material, new details, pictures etc. To make a DYK it must have a minimum of 1,500 characters of pure text (that does not include refs, headings, pictures, etc.). The section is already at some 2,000 characters, so no problems with that I think. The DYK reviewers are also very picky about everything being referenced. No wonder though, hey it's the Main Page! :)
- So, a lot of rules and dos and don'ts. Are you interested in this? (Time and cats allowing) It is a challenge, but I will help you if you want to do this. Right now I have a rather limited amount of time for the WP, but it is doable. w.carter-Talk 11:25, 15 March 2015 (UTC)

Bug? (2)
Why do I see only one "GA" symbol on the right hand side on this page. Is this a bug these days? Even on your Talk page as well as @Philg88: talk page, I see only one symbol, which is not true. Educationtemple (talk) 15:23, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
- I saw that too. I think it might be a bug with the template. I tend to wait a while and see if it corrects itself. If it's still there in a couple of days, I report it to the Village pump, technical. This is not a very vital feature, so probably not priorytized by the techies. w.carter-Talk 15:30, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
- Seems like there are some changes ongoing in the template, which are being worked on by those who know about the arcane nature of such stuff. Me? I haven't a clue what's wrong with it. Philg88 ♦talk 15:55, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
Lets wait. Educationtemple (talk) 16:08, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
- For those of you who are interested, the
|icon_nr=
that sorts the icons is now deemed obsolete and a new code that sorts icons alphabetically is said to be sort of working (but really is not). There is some bickering going on about whether this is such a good idea. w.carter-Talk 01:20, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
Yep. Bring out the popcorn and grab a good front row seat. This should be fun to watch. :) Btw guys, Ceannlann gorm is the latest addition to our little band of irregulars. He's a newbie, so no biting. w.carter-Talk 19:14, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
- Hello there! On a related note, I've been noticing a few template related glitches in the last few hours that could be related to this. We may end up having too good a front row seat. Ceannlann gorm (talk) 00:09, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
Sort of fixed
@Educationtemple:@Philg88: Since the "new improved" system for topicons sort them alphabetically, there is only room for one "topicon" of each name in the top row. So it you have done more than one GA/FA, only one will show since they are all named the same. This little dilemma does not seem to be solved any time soon, so I made a hack combining things from the old Wikitable in its simplest form and a bit of Picture tutorial. This allows for the little darlings to be aligned horizontally or vertical, left, right or center, however you want them, wherever you want them. You can see an example of this on my user page. Hope this helps, w.carter-Talk 13:07, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
- If you want any help with fixing this, just give me a 'ping'. w.carter-Talk 13:21, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Small Request
Hello,
You always have been very kind to me that is why asking a request
You might have seen my user page, it is very similar to yours. I want to add a small blue fade in the background(where the text is present). Do you know how can I do it?
Thank You!Komchi✉☆ 10:07, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
- Not exactly sure what you mean. If you mean something fading from blue to white like the pic here, I don't think there is a Wikicode for that. You have to use a background pic for that, but I don't think that is possible since you already have a pic there. If you want the whole area in a light blue (or another color), you add
background:#F0F8FF;
(No spaces!) to your code. The<div style="padding: 20px; width: 1000px; background: ; border: 5px solid #8888aa; text-align: justify; font-family: Times New Roman, sans-serif; font-size: 125%;">
. The Wikicode is not made for too many layers of pics and text. - This is as far as my knowledge of page design goes. Maybe you can ask at some section of the Village Pump or Graphics Lab, some of the techies there might know more. Best, w.carter-Talk 10:43, 5 April 2015 (UTC)

Hello my Friend
Hello Dear! How are you? My last paper is on this weekend (Saturday)! I must be comparatively OK after that. Just came back from Delhi after a long 4 days trip!! Also see the array of things on the top of my user page. It looks cool Educationtemple (talk) 10:41, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
- Hi my friend, four days in Delhi, that sound exhausting! :) I saw that you figured out how to get your little icons on your page. Nice! As I recall, that was how you wanted them in the first place. I have been busy at my ordinary work as usual and on the WP I am helping some newbies to get their first articles accepted. Some require a bit of work others not. I helped getting this to main yesterday. Best, w.carter-Talk 16:58, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick review of my very first article
Glad to have learned yesterday of your quick review and revisions of my article on Harley Gaber. Many thanks. I am eager to learn from this experience, so I'm reviewing the changes with care. If I have particular questions, can I come back to you for answers? Morees68 (talk) 17:21, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
- Hello Morees68! :) It was a pleasure helping you out with that article. Not often a newbie presents such good material. We look forward to more articles from you. You are always very welcome here with any sort of questions. Guiding new editors has sort of become my specialty here. Before an article goes into the main it usually goes through the hands of several editors, we help each other to look for things we might have missed, so even if you think you have done everything right, call on me anyhow for a check. There are also editors who specialize in copy editing if you for some reason want a real pro to take a look. Also, to set the record straight, I did not review and accept the article. That was done by EoRdE6 who is a reviewer. They also did some editing. I just made the first fixes so that it would be ok to accept.
- On another note, since the article is brand new, would you mind if I nominated it for a place in the Did you know... section of the main page? This can be done with articles that are no older than seven days. If accepted, a link to it will be on the most prestigious page of the WP for 12 hours. I will of course keep you updated about this. Best, w.carter-Talk 18:11, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
Well, well, I'm delighted to give the okay for you to nominate it for that DYK position on the main page. I've been smiling since I saw the news of your accepting the submission so quickly, especially after the warning that it could take a week. Morees68 (talk) 18:47, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
- That is what can happen when you write good articles. The DYK is now done. You can follow what happens at Template:Did you know nominations/Harley Gaber. I have suggested a so called "hook" for the article. You can alter it if you like or suggest a new one for the DYK-editor to ponder. (I can guide you in that or you can read about DYK's at WP:DYK and look at the present Main Page.) The nomination page is also mirrored at the article's talk page. Otherwise we can only wait and see. If it gets accepted, we will be notified. When an article is nominated, it is also brought to the attention of the rest of the WP community, so other editors will come by and make more improvements to it. I have also prepped it somewhat for the DYK since the hook must be referenced. Keep smiling! w.carter-Talk 19:16, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
- Who accepted it? Not that I'm bothered, W.carter probably put in more work than me... Good job once again, and good luck with the DYK! EoRdE6(Come Talk to Me!) 19:12, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
- But, but, but ... I did say that the deed was yours. See: "Also, to set the record straight, I did not review and accept the article. That was done by EoRdE6 who is a reviewer." Look a bit further up. Or am I completely confused?? w.carter-Talk 19:20, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

Mass disaster
I sent all those bogus biographies in afd today. Hope other editors will not kill me for this! The biographies, that survive in afd discussions, and the remaining one in the list, I shall improve to GA. Is @Philg88: listening? sorry..! reading to me? - OK Teacher Ji. I did not know this! There are many things that I did not know. For example, I did not know until the age of 8 or 9 that it is engine that take a bus forward. I used to think that poor driver pull all passenger by rotating a wheel from one corner of bus! I did not know anything about sex until I was in 11th class. And I did not know until very recently (2006) that water can be pumped on the front glass of a car just by pressing a button from inside the car. I owned a car for about 3-4 months by that time, but no one told this to me. Educationtemple (talk) 18:20, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

- @Educationtemple:Thanks for notifying me, but I don't have enough knowledge about notable Indian people to contribute to the discussion. Once you have weeded out the non-notable I can help you with the articles of the rest though. Also, you left good notes to the new user on your page, but it is also good to leave links to pages where they can read the facts to support your claims. You can use the notes and links that I have gathered on my user page if you want. They are under "Things for helping newbies" and they are formatted in such a way that you don't need to open the editing window, just copy and paste directly from the page. - Thank Dear. I thought of leaving the links, but then I realized that he is a naive user (may be the singer himself) and he wont read, neither understand this. One thing is sure, that the singer is notable (news clippings), and I have personally listened to his songs just now, he really sings very well, one of the top quality voice, fine singer, will reach to heights. If the article survive, I can help him to improve the article. Educationtemple (talk) 08:41, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

On this Comment!! It is so funny that people seek grace on the basis of gender, region, nationality etc rather than doing home work to search and add sources for the claims to improve the article. Could you please comment on this my friend? Educationtemple (talk) 13:34, 14 April 2015 (UTC)
- Ok, calm down. I have left a comment at the AfD, you get excited far too easily my friend. ;) w.carter-Talk 14:04, 14 April 2015 (UTC)
- Great comment!! I have no words! You should have been born here in India to convey this message to all Indians (males as well as females)!! Another similar article created by same user is going to be as "keep" without a single reliable source in place, simply because many editors just seems to have ignored the need of a reliable source for such a powerful subject, who was selected by handful of Indian Scientists to be included on WP (read statement in one of the comment by creator!!) Educationtemple (talk) 14:11, 14 April 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks, glad you like it. I must admit that it is easier for me to be objective about Indian scientists since I can't tell from their name whether they are men or women. Same way as you had no idea that Walborg Thorsell was a female professor when you suggested that the article should be created.
- All this said, the problem that I mentioned, that very few men write about notable women, making sources about them scarce, is something that the WP has inherited from history and it still goes on in most of the world. The only way we can fight it is to keep digging all the harder for these articles. I don't think changing the rules of the WP is the answer, it would be very hard to know where to draw the line. w.carter-Talk 14:28, 14 April 2015 (UTC)
Sorry to bother you...
But I'm afraid I blundered a bit with regards as to a redirect. I had misread the incident in question as being a runway overrurn, rather than a runway excursion incident (I've now created a correctly titled redirect). I was going to list the incorrectly titled redirect for deletion at RFD, but since there is a backlog there, I was wondering is there another way to quickly remove the errant redirect? I'm not sure if you can use Speedy deletion with a redirect page. By the way, the reason why the redirects point towards the Accidents and incidents section on the Hiroshima Airport page is that I hadn't realised at the time that a separate article on the accident had already been created. Ceannlann gorm (talk) 12:38, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
EDIT: Updated target page of 'proper' redirect. Ceannlann gorm (talk) 12:43, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
- Not sure I can follow all the ins and outs of this, but if you accidentally have created a page (article or redirect does not matter) you can just paste {{Db-g7}} on the page and be done with it. (G7. Author requests deletion) Any time you create a page, you are the author. Also, keep in mind for further articles that accidents always seems to attract editors to create articles about them within hours. ;) Hope this helps, I'll be AFK for the rest of the day now, back tonight, w.carter-Talk 12:53, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
Very Important discussion that may lead a statutes for Indian FNAS, FIAS, FNAAS, FISCA, FINAS
My Dear Friend - Some important discussions are ongoing here on these afds 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Please join the discussion and opine, since this will create a precedent for other such Indian articles on WP existing now, and created in future. Please dont miss out! Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 14:46, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
- @Educationtemple: I'm sorry, but I do not know anything about the finer points of these discussions, I haven't even got a clue what all these abbreviations means. These things are better left to editors with some knowledge about the Indian science community. Getting involved in this would require a huge amount of studying, something I don't have time for now. And even if I did read up on it, chances are I would misunderstand things anyhow. Good luck though, and remember to keep your temper, don't be too hasty and let things take the time needed. You started all this, so it's up to you to keep things civil as moderator in the discussions. Best, w.carter-Talk 15:06, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
- I am really scared since I started this! I will try to be nice and good. But I only wish that rules should be equal for all, and decisions on articles should not go by like/dislike, gender, lobbying, general fame about the subject amongst few wikipedians etc. Why the rules should be different for different articles of same level. One FNA is tagged for notability, however, another FNA is given a 'keep' since he is a FNA. This does not sounds very healthy to me. And yes, I posted this message to you just for such advise that you have given to me - I know your are like the Earth....really balanced! It is only Earth that can tolerate and take care of all sort of imbalanced stones, falling rocks, impatience volcano and so on Educationtemple (talk) 15:18, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

- @Educationtemple: They seem to be ok so far, but the tiniest thing can ignite a debate here. A good thing too keep in mind when dealing with many Wikipedians is that logic very seldom plays a major role in discussions. Editors here are human and therefore swayed by emotions and other things than rules and regulations. So be humble when you find yourself in a situation where logic cannot win. The community will always have its way. Do not take anything personally! I heard a quote long ago that may apply to this situation: "A democracy is not built on rules and regulations, it is built on the opinions of those who show up and let their voices be heard." All the best, w.carter-Talk 15:30, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
- The day I feel, my philosophy is not for WP, I will take volunteer Retirement from wiki. I am taught that law is blind, the way the love is blind. But Law goes by rules and love by emotions! But the day, when love leads to any civil dispute, that are handled by Law and Love too then fall under the purview of Law. Educationtemple (talk) 15:41, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

It is very good that you have principles, but just as important to know what you are up against and what you can expect so you are prepared. w.carter-Talk 15:55, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
- I think I concluded it appropriately at my end. Philg88 also joined and commented. Educationtemple (talk) 17:49, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Jean Abraham Grill
Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Jean Abraham Grill you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Iselilja -- Iselilja (talk) 10:01, 19 April 2015 (UTC)
A possible DYK Review
I am participating in Wikicup but very behind schedule for various reasons, so I need more points before April 28. I therefore wondered if it would be possible for you to review a DYK article of mine relatively quickly, Template:Did you know nominations/Christopher Hornsrud. Just say no, if you don't like it or are too occupied with other things. Iselilja (talk) 19:42, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
- Of course I would be happy to help you. I have never reviewed a DYK before, but I have nominated and got some myself, and there is always a first time for everything (as with you and GA reviews) :). I am just finishing a new lead for the Grill guy and then I'll be right on it. Cheers, w.carter-Talk 19:47, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
- @Iselilja:While reading through the article I found some things that I copy edited. Some were clearly mixed up typos or something, like in the lead you wrote that he was Prime Minister during three weeks from January to February, but in the text you wrote that he was appointed by the King on 27 February and that he resigned on 23 February (???). I checked the Norwegian WP and the Regjeringen.no where it clearly says that the dates should be 28 January and 15 February. I hope you don't mind that I corrected that. - WOW!!! Thanks Anna!!! - w.carter-Talk 07:58, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
- Of course, I know that no individual could do so much so quickly. You obviously have elves or minions or something. (In case you didn't know, a "minion" is a small variety of Allium cepa.) :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:05, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
- @Anna Frodesiak: Well, we do have the di sma under jordi here. :) Otherwise the real secret is in stocking energy drinks, cookies, pizza and coffee on the way back from the museum. (It also helps if you are a bit crazy/obsessed/"silver-struck") And you bet I'm bleary-eyed this morning ... but very happy. w.carter-Talk 08:20, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

@Anna Frodesiak:Sorry to bother you, but there is something funny going on at the Template:Did you know nominations/Spillings Hoard (I'm doing a double DYK). The reviewer is saying that the museum article is not new enough. I nominated it the same day it was moved from draft to main. Have I missed something? Could you please take a look. Best, w.carter-Talk 23:53, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry to not have checked the move date. All sorted out. By the way, that silver treasure is mine! Keep yer mits off it! Mine, I say! It must have been nice to see. If not protected by thick glass, I'd be shoving handfuls of it into my bag and then run screaming out the door and into the hills. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:31, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
- I'll send you some bangles and bars! (It is truly magnificent!) w.carter-Talk 01:01, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
Thought I'd drop by and say hi
Hi Carter! I hope all's well with you! Thanks for the DYK reviews, it's nice to be reviewed by someone who is always nice, constructive and objective. :=) I also wanted to say I saw the wonderful work you did on Gotland Museum and Stockholm Palace - veeery nice, a pride for Wikipedia! Have a nice evening, Yakikaki (talk) 16:55, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
Always Miss WP Pride...!! Educationtemple (talk) 16:59, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
- Aawww.... you people... I'm new at the DYK-thing, I realized a bit too late that there was a QPQ system so I "owe" the WP some extra ones. I kind of like it though, gives me a chance to read good articles while doing some good. Think I'll do some more than just the QPQ. Cheers to both of you my friends, w.carter-Talk 17:41, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Jean Abraham Grill (2)
The article Jean Abraham Grill you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Jean Abraham Grill for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already been on the main page as an "In the news" or "Did you know" item, you can nominate it to appear in Did you know. - YAY!! Thanks! And thank you to all the editors who have contributed to the article and made it what is today. w.carter-Talk 20:24, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
- Congratulations! And thanks for the co-operation. You are excellent easy to work with. Is there anyone else who has contributed enough to the article to merit a GA credit? I didn't look into that, but you mentioned that another person wrote part of the draft. Hope I didn't tire you to much with the review; I go a bit back and forth as you can see. It can be quite a time sink to bring an article up to promoted level; with all the details that should be correct, both content and MOS. And thanks for the DYK review, that helped a lot; hopefully I will just squeak through to next round. Regards, Iselilja (talk) 20:37, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
- @Iselilja: Likewise. :) You were very clear and easy to work with, and GA reviews are never a straight line, they tend to go over the article again and again, as it should be. Please let me know/ask when you have other DYKs you want reviewed. The editor who helped me with the copy editing while the article was still in the Draft space for Grill (family) was Philg88 with this edit (he is very efficient!). Cheers, w.carter-Talk 20:56, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

Check
Hello W.carter. I have just completed a /doc page. Can you please check it and tell me how to improve?
aGastya ✉ Dicere Aliquid :) 19:54, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry aGastya, but this is way out of my area of expertise! ;) You have to ask one of the "Techies" at the Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) to take a look at it and see that everything is ok. Best, w.carter-Talk 20:00, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
- Okay, But at least you can check if my language is okay in it. Link
aGastya ✉ Dicere Aliquid :) 20:02, 26 April 2015 (UTC)- Thank you! I never knew that there were so many typos and other errors!

(edit conflict) :::@Acagastya: Done Lots of luck with you new archiving template! And while we are at the language department (for the future) If you write: "But at least you can check if my language is okay in it." That sounds like very rude nagging for an English ear. ;) I know that you mean: "Could you at least check if my language in it is okay." There are just small nuances, but they mean a lot when you read it. I know that you would never dream of being rude to someone, so I understand what you mean, but in case you write to a stranger. ;) All the best, w.carter-Talk 21:07, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
- Okay! Sorry for being rude! Will remember from now onwards!
