WIGI Idea Lab project

[edit]

Oye, I am working on WIGI: Wikipedia Gender Index (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IdeaLab/WIGI:_Wikipedia_Gender_Index) and I hereby want to invite to the group. I think the group needs more volunteers too, so I think it is a good time to work upon that. It is funded project and 9 month project with many other people such as User:Piotrus, User:QEDK and more. Well I am just here to tell, it is your choice to come in :D Komchi 17:09, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Aand btw you might use your sandbox page for your editing stuff, I mean just a suggestion. Komchi 17:12, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I would love to join, but I have AIPMT a few days later, so will not join at the moment. But what is this: You are a typo team member. Don't forget! Since I am habitual to find these errors, I found it here. Sorry: Please don't take me in a wrong way.
aGastya  ✉ Dicere Aliquid :) 17:34, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I don't have empty sandbox. So I use my other language Wikipedias' Sandbox. But when trying the templates, it is difficult to have interwikilink: though I know how to. Still after creating the template, I check if it is working or not. Here, I have created 3 templates. Better say modified 3 templates.aGastya  ✉ Dicere Aliquid :) 17:37, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You also made a mistake see the spelling of 'And' you have written it 'Aand', plus my bad too. :P Komchi 17:38, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's all right if you do not want to join I was just inviting you.

Yeah by the way this is a project which is funded by wikimedia, we will create websites and wikilinks to make a project on the topic Komchi 17:44, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate the guidance and well developed starting page. I'm still getting used to how Wiki uses talk and user pages as well as notifications to enable conversations. It's much more than I expected. You're not supposed to delete messages on your user or talk or both pages?

cheers, Mpicanco (talk) 06:41, 6 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Mpicanco: are you asking or telling?
aGastya  ✉ Dicere Aliquid :) 07:35, 6 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm asking.. though I see there is a sort of workaround if you're able to archive them or something, somehow, as you seem to have done? What if I wanted to go back and correct my last statement to a clearer question, is that permitted with certain documentation?

I wouldn't be telling you such a thing... obviously you'd have a better idea than me! Mpicanco (talk) 01:31, 13 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Quick question

[edit]

Is your username "Acagastya" or "aGastya"? —DangerousJXD (talk) 04:28, 7 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry mate, I was not here. I had an exam to attend. Well answer to the quick question is: Acagastya.
aGastya  ✉ Dicere Aliquid :) 09:27, 7 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Now, the lengthy answer:
  • The URL of my userpages and sub-pages have Acagastya in it.
  • On my user page; though it might look horrible in mobile view, I have mentioned about my username: My name is not Acagastya. And please do not pronounce it like that. The first A is for my name, C for my dad's name and the remaining is Agastya. So my name is aGastya and read my username as A-C-AGASTYA..

Well, why did you ask about this?

Cool. I asked because I didn't know whether I was pinging you correctly. —DangerousJXD (talk) 03:04, 8 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. But you were doing it correctly!

Tip of the moment...
Please read department instructions

Some pages are active departments with their own set of instructions. It may be tempting to skip reading them and go straight to making edits or leaving messages. But this just clutters those pages and creates unnecessary steps for the volunteers of those departments. This happens a lot at the Help desk, the Wikipedia:Reference desk, and at Articles for creation. For example, many users ask general knowledge questions at the Help Desk rather than at the Reference Desk, because they didn't read the instructions at the top of the page. If you visit those pages, please take the time and read the instructions before making use of those helpful departments.

Okay! Now I know how does it actually function. So what is the use?

Please block me permanently. I wish to contribute no longer to Wikipedia. Being called remedial academia because I tried to stop a vandal, trying to convert him into a good editor! Enough. I can't take it anymore. I just want to leave this place, and surrender my account. I had some happy moments at Wikipedia, when I discovered amazing templates, altering them. Learning the markup as I used to do in my computer classes. I loved to remove typos. I enjoyed every moment knowing that I am sharing knowledge. But sometimes, respect also matters.

Page delete request

[edit]

IP 117.217.114.218 has asked to delete some of my sub pages. I declare the edit was made by me. I wish to delete those subpages. I even want to delete all of my archives.

Generally we won't deleted user talkapges (including archives) at the user's request (see WP:U1). You need to provide a good reason for deleting these pages, as they are part of Wikipedia's wider community process and contain multiple contributions by other editors. Unless there is some pressing reason such as the revelation of identifying personal information therein, these archived talkpage do not need to be deleted. Yunshui  10:09, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Yunshui: I wish to surrender the account and all of the sub-pages (excluding those which have templates and userboxes to be used by others in the rarest luck). But I think, this reason is not sufficient. Still, this page could be deleted. It has nobody elses' contributions.
aGastya  ✉ Dicere Aliquid :) 10:19, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And, You could cut the contents from 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th archive; paste it in first and then delete those blank pages.
aGastya  ✉ Dicere Aliquid :) 10:21, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Could do, but the content attribution would be a pain as it would require history merging all the pages - and it doesn't actually achieve anything. I've deleted the general archive page at your request. Would you like me to remove the deletable pages at Special:PrefixIndex/User:Acagastya/ as well (this would include your user scripts at User:Acagastya/common.js, I can leave those if you like)? Yunshui  10:24, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know much about history merging, but is it there for manual archives?
aGastya  ✉ Dicere Aliquid :) 10:28, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sub-pages to be deleted:

That's it.

A tag has been placed on File:John Layman Bangalore ComicCon 2017.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file licensed as "for non-commercial use only", "no derivative use", "for Wikipedia use only", or "used with permission"; and it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag and if necessary, a complete fair use rationale.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Sufficiently free licences

[edit]

You uploaded a couple of images under a CC-BY-ND 2.5 IN license. That dos not allow for derivatives and is not a sufficiently free license for use on the English Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags/Free licenses for some commonly used acceptable licenses. -- Whpq (talk) 19:27, 5 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Whpq: I am aware that I have released the media in a non-derivative license. You talk about "sufficiently free" while there are several other fair use images which could not be even readily re-used for example, football logo clubs on userpages, let alone outside the the circle where it concerns. This one permits reuse and as an encyclopedia, it is best to provide at least some form of media which can be reused anywhere. Speaking of which the license Wikipedia uses CC BY-SA is not relatively free as CC BY. So let's try to be helpful by at least providing better than a normal FU on the project.
acagastya 01:31, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Licenses that do not allow for derivatives aren't accepted on the English Wikipedia, just as they are not accepted at Commons. That's part of the image use policy. The only exception would be images being used as non-free content. -- Whpq (talk) 04:10, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Whpq: Why are you telling these things? A fair use media can have CC BY-ND license, and so those two pictures had. This makes no sense in not keeping those files as there are good reasons not to delete living people's FU photos and there is no explicit "no".
acagastya 08:23, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Those images did not have non-free usage claims and rationales. And even if they did, they would not meet all the non-free content criteria. The page you refer to for non-free images of living people is not the policy. -- Whpq (talk) 13:39, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Whpq: I am aware that it is not a policy page — there isn’t a policy page which says explicit no for FU photos of living person . Giving a FU rationale? It would be pointless considering it already provides option for endless reuse without modifications. Still if it is necessary, instead of speedy deletion nomination, you could have asked for rationale. And those photos a) helped building a “good encyclopaedic” (if you want to) and b) did not restrict reuse, even for commercial purposes. (Suddenly I remember the be bold policy which has been exploited here, and which I can exploit)
acagastya 13:56, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Quoted from Wikipedia:Non-free content - "Non-free content should not be used when a freely licensed file that serves the same purpose can reasonably be expected to be uploaded, as is the case for almost all portraits of living people." which is about as explicit as it can get. -- Whpq (talk) 14:19, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
From what it says, "...not be used when a freely licensed file that serves the same purpose can reasonably be expected to be uploaded". Until and unless there is a "free" alternative for those, it can be used.
acagastya 16:48, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That is not how it is interpreted. But if you want to persist, you can always contest the deletion with deleting admin and take this to deletion review. I'd be shocked if these images of living people were accepted under the non-free content guidelines. -- Whpq (talk) 17:46, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for creating the redirect for Tor (browser), which I have categorized as having predictable disambiguation. I noted, though, that its target was Tor Browser, which itself is a redirect.
