Copyrighted images on userboxes

A non-free image was recently removed from one or more of your userboxes. Please be advised that Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Wikipedia policy does not allow templates (which includes userboxes) or user pages to contain any copyrighted content not under a free license; so, for example, claims under "fair use" are explicitly rejected. This clause is to be interpreted strictly and without exception, for legal reasons. You can research Wikipedia's non-free content policy for more details.

I hope this does not discourage you from creating more userboxes; your contributions to Wikipedia are greatly appreciated. For images and other media that are freely available for use in userpages and userboxes, check out Wikimedia Commons. Thank you. - Marchjuly (talk) 02:41, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I used to think that any image from commons could be used. Now read the other restrictions in the detail. Sorry for the harm done. Fixed all the boxes but chelsea. thank you for informing me! aGastya ✉ let’s talk about it :) 04:35, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Talkback

Hello, Acagastya. You have new messages at User talk:Yunshui/How not to get unblocked.
Message added 08:53, 26 February 2015 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Yunshui  08:53, 26 February 2015 (UTC) Ah, I see what you mean about being told not to create talkpages (above). W.Carter is referring to archived pages - once a page is archived (which is usually pretty obvious, either from the different colour scheme, from the notice at the top saying "this page is archived" or from the word Archive in the page title - you shouldn't add to it (and that generally includes adding to the talkpage). However, unarchived pages, like user essays, are fair game for talkpage creation. Yunshui  08:56, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of userbox page

had added an image of fair use license unknowingly but i want to get it deleted: link is this aGastya ✉ let’s talk about it :) 04:34, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No worries; it's gone. For future reference, if you want a page in your own userspace deleted (i.e. any page starting with "User:Acagastya..."), you can edit the page and add the code {{db-u1}} or {{db-user}} - this will tag the page with the appropriate speedy deletion template, which will in turn draw an administrator to delete it for you. Yunshui  11:36, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much! aGastya ✉ let’s talk about it :) 04:34, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Psst! My friend, remember that you have to sign all of your post, even those on your own talk page with the four ~~~~. This is because all posts have to be time stamped, and that happens with the signing. Otherwise, a bit later when you have your very own archiving thing, the Bot that handles that will not know when the post was made and cannot archive it correctly. w.carter-Talk 12:11, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A bowl of strawberries for you!

Hey! You said something on your user page I liked. Have some strawberries. It was something I have written on my user page too and I completely agree. DangerousJXD (talk) 03:39, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Oh thank you! I just completed one of my English textbooks for the final exam and opened Wikipedia: You have a message. and it is very boring if i don't have a message but the same time i feared and recalled if the last edits were not part of vandalism! I was scared and at last it was a surprised! Well let me guess: the 3rd or the 4th one is similar? (please let me know) aGastya ✉ let’s talk about it :) 04:33, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It was the part about religion. It's refreshing to me to see or hear someone say "I'm not religious". DangerousJXD (talk) 06:46, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Updating stats

Hi, I just have a few notes for updating statistics.

  1. No live updates are allowed as per Wikipedia:WikiProject Football consensus, so wait until matches has ended before adding and updating stats.
  2. Do not update just goals update everything (including appearance).
  3. No need to leave notes if you do what written above.

Please think about this. Thank you. QED237 (talk) 20:58, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Okay: i did because there was the substitution. now won't do it again:but 1 problem. caps! one of the players' caps and goals were not updated since last 2 games. So where should i refer for caps? (I refer goal.com for goal count but they do stats per season!)
thanks!
aGastya  ✉ let’s talk about it  :) 03:41, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I always try and refer to the career stats section in the article when updating an infobox since infobox is summary of the article. The career stats section often have a source (at least it should have) with all caps and goals and a row for totals, and that league total should match the infobox (league only in infoboxes). What source (or sources) used in the career stats section can change. If goal.com only lists current season then maybe an other source is better (and as I said source often exists at career stats section). If you dont understand what I wrote (dont live in english speaking country) or have more questions, let me know and I will try and answer. QED237 (talk) 11:24, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't live in an English speaking country (INDIA) but it is common here and i understand what you say!
Well are you from any European country or where native language isn't English?
No offence but i need help in language (it may sound crazy) but just let me know: I will explain you further!
Thanks! aGastya  ✉ let’s talk about it  :) 11:30, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I live in Europe and had English as "second language" at school so I know English pretty good, I am just bad at writing sometimes. QED237 (talk) 11:33, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Okay: I want to know that are teahouses for any other languages too? I want to get answers for the Hindi version of Wikipedia and here in English teahouse the hosts are not familiar with it :(
Waiting for an answer since morning still didn't recive answer there! aGastya  ✉ let’s talk about it  :) 11:37, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I am sorry but I dont know that much about Teahouses, I have never read or asked any questions there and I have only been active on English wikipedia. QED237 (talk) 16:52, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No problem Qed237, finally got my answer.
Are you a munchen fan?
well hope you won't mind my mistake of updating those stats live and i promise i won't do it aGain.
Let's be friends
aGastya  ✉ let’s talk about it  :) 17:22, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am happy that you got your answer, sometimes things can take some time but you will get your answer with some patiences. About Munchen, it is not my favourite but I like them, they are good. I dont mind your mistake at all, I did the same before someone told me not to do it, no harm done at all. Of course we can be "friends" on wikipedia, I have nothing bad to say about you, I believe you are a good editor. QED237 (talk) 18:20, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Griffin (The Invisible Man), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Monocane. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi, My name is Michael Bell. I am an actor/voice animator.
I noticed that although I was on of the principal actors on the 1965 Soap Opera Morning Star, I am not credited Wikipedia. Wondering why? Thanks,

Userbox

@Andrybak sorry to reply here for the query you asked at teahouse since i am blocked. The answer is oh yes it is not good to edit somebody else's userbox. But i remember when i created an userbox for Chelsea fans, i used a fair use image: which i wasn't supposed to use. See this and how it was modified to this by a fellow user Marchjuly. You can edit those if it violates the rules of image usage.

Once, i created my own userbox but didn't use it properly and it looked like this. Another user RHaworth fixed it by modifying the code to this.
I advice you to copy the code, modify according to your idea on your sandbox or any suitable area. Then message the user and show them how you modified and later it is up to them!
Okay? Hope it helps.

@Andrybak, If the user is friendly or consider you as a friend won't mind it and take it as a Good Faith and won't get mad if you make it a mistake but first just let them know what you are up to!

Updating stats

@QED237 see this. Here it is updated in between match and another thing. Suarez scored 2 goals. And the second one isn't updated. As i am blocked for personal reasons i can't edit but check if this info is added. And thus @Juanmartinlavagna shold also not make live updates!
that's it
aGastya  ✉ let’s talk about it  :) 13:03, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Okay i see it has been updated. But Pique's goal has not been updated! aGastya  ✉ let’s talk about it  :) 13:23, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

For some reason the notification did not work, but know I see what you have written and I will look at it. QED237 (talk) 14:16, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Saying that Piques' goal hasn't updated @Qed237
aGastya  ✉ let’s talk about it  :) 15:15, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I know what you mean, I just did not recieve the notification. QED237 (talk) 15:28, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@W.carter, Multiple links must not be there. But should it be there for example in a page, a person A is related to B. And thus [[B]] is used. But the person B has also has a quotation for A. So under the quote, again [[B]] must be there?
account blocked so can't ask doubts in teahouse
aGastya  ✉ let’s talk about it  :) 16:20, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I'm sorry, but I do not know what you mean. What multiple links? And I must say that your way of asking to be blocked to be able to get on with your studies and then summon other users to your talk page instead, is like cheating big time. You were supposed to take some time off from the WP, right? ;) Best, w.carter-Talk 16:33, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Too much of studies and then i require a break. In my break, i see WP and find some corrections and typos. I note them in notebook to rectify it. And if i feel something that should me corrected then i do it here.
Multiple links: I meant that linking to the same wikipage by creating link to the same word. Is that okay? that is the query
aGastya  ✉ let’s talk about it  :) 16:49, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, you mean linking the same word more than once within the same article. The "link just one time" is a recommendation, not a law. If there is an obvious advantage for the reader who reads the article, then the same link can be repeated. It is often the case than a link is done both in the infobox and in the article for this reason. Always, always and always think about that articles are written for readers, an "audience", and not for other Wikipedians. Best, w.carter-Talk 17:37, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

And what about some unwanted links for example: The village is known for its coconut and palm trees having links for coconut and palm trees which is (i think)unnecessary
aGastya  ✉ let’s talk about it  :) 18:02, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Links should only be made for words that are uncommon and not in everyday language. At least that is how it is here on the English Wikipedia. So in this case I think it would be unnecessary to link "palm trees" and "coconuts" are so-so, maybe linkable in some circumstances, but probably not. You can read all about it at the Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Linking. I remember seeing a page here, a sort of humorous list, where you can nominate editors who have made the most silly and useless links during a month, but I can't remember where it was. You could get nominated there if you linked words like water or window. Something like the Wikipedia:Village stocks. A good tip if you seach for an answer is to write WP:Whatever you are looking for in the searchbox up in the right corner. You will be surprised how many things you can find out that way. For example: try writing WP:Links and see what pops up (such as almost everything I wrote here...). Btw, please 'ping' me if you need an answer, I can't go checking the WP all the time. w.carter-Talk 18:33, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
