Sometimes, the visual editor required saving twice. That problem is now fixed. [2]
Changes this week
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 26 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 27 July. It will be on all wikis from 28 July (calendar).
It is now possible to mark all Notifications as read on Special:Notifications, by clicking on the cog icon. [3]
Wikipedia search will now detect the language of your search if 2 or fewer results are found. It will then show results from the matching language Wikipedia, if any relevant article exists. It will start to roll out in 5 languages. [4]
Meetings
You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 26 July at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
You can join the next meeting with the Architecture committee. The topic this week is "an extension that implements an authenticated key-value store". The meeting will be on 27 July at 21:00 (UTC). See how to join. [5]
Future changes
The current icon for Notifications "Notices" (in English "Notices") will be changed from a bubble-speech icon to a tray icon for consistency. [6]
You've been asked more than once to change your signature and you've decided to ignore it so let me make this clear as possible for you - You either remove all the shit from your signature and have a normal one like the rest of us .... or I'll drag you to ANI for disrupting the project and you'll probably be blocked, I'm damn sure Redrose64 has better things to do than having to go around removing your disruptive and quite frankly annoying signature so you either remove it or you'll end up blocked, Thank you. –Davey2010Talk22:26, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
@Davey2010: Probably you have not read my conversation yesterday at Redrose64's talk page, I have changed my signature it is now within the character limit, if you wish to check check it out. And I did not vandalize, please elaborate on the warning as I did not get it. VarunFEB2003 (talk) 05:25, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
It's within 255 chars for now. When one of those special days that you've set up at User:VarunFEB2003/Signature and User:VarunFEB2003/SaH - such as Halloween - comes around, you'd better make sure that the 255-char limit continues not to be breached. Hint: the way that you've got it set up now, such a breach will occur.
At User talk:Redrose64#Talk:Ramal Talca-Constitución you said "I do not know coding and I copied this sign". If you don't know coding, you shouldn't be attempting complicated signatures the way you have been doing.
Also, I see that the invalid declaration color:\red still happens, and under some circumstances an unclosed <spanstyle="color:black"> too stressed can still occur.
Oh I hadn't even realized you'd changed it, Redrose is correct you shouldn't breach it at all (and quite frankly you shouldn't of breached it in the first place!), I'm all for IAR & all that but there's some lines on this place that shouldn't be crossed, May be better if you don't have a signature at all but whatever thanks for doing something about it. –Davey2010Talk11:19, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
@Redrose64:I know about SaH and I shall very soon correct that too and that coding part you told me do will also be done within next few days. I am currently using a desktop version on my iPad so can't do the tough coding part right now but I'll do it I promise. VarunFEB2003I am Online 12:23, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
7&6=thirteen (☎) has given you a Dobos torte to enjoy! Seven layers of fun because you deserve it.
To give a Dobos torte and spread the WikiLove, just place {{subst:Dobos Torte}} on someone else's talkpage, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend.
Over the years I've seen your work. Can't recall specifics. But I appreciate its cumulative contribution to the encyclopedia. 7&6=thirteen (☎)16:05, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
Hi VarunFEB2003, the article Mahabali as of 31st July had duplicate sections for "See also", "References" and "External links". I removed that duplicate sections. Why do you call it "vandalism" to remove the duplicate sections? Why have you reverted my edits? --GünniX (talk) 16:48, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
@GünniX:@Redrose64: Hello I was using Lupins tool and came across your edit, at first it did appear like vandalism and I reverted it. Then I realized that your edits were correct as you had removed double sections so after that I changed it again and removed the duplicate sections and even changed some layout. I am sorry for quoting it as vandalism as it was'nt supposed to me. If Redrose being an admin could cut that out of the edit summary. It would be good. Thanks. VarunFEB2003 (talk) 10:37, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
@Redrose64: Sir i promise I shall be doing it tomorrow. I am on a mobile and it's too difficult for me to type. I am not signing this post with my usual sign. I'll correct it sorry Varun11:17, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

The RevisionSlider beta feature can now be tested on mediawiki.org, German Wikipedia, Arabic Wikipedia and Hebrew Wikipedia.
Problems
Renamed users on some wikis were not connected to their account on other wikis between 20 July and 21 July. This has been fixed. [9]

Greetings and hello, probably you have understood my setup but not properly, when I place the sign the status at that time is printed, because direct use of templates in sign isn't permitted as per policy (WP:SIG). Moreover that status shown isn't the one I might be having actually currently, it is the one that was at the time of signing. I copied this setup from User:Cyberpower678! Thanks VarunFEB2003I am Online 12:21, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
Ancestry
Thanks VarunFEB2003 for the comment on my talk page. The ancestry information was as complete as possible and is accurate. The family tree including wives and children is a different issue. I will therefore revert your removal. Part (talk) 21:26, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
Hi Part, good to see your interest in that article I appreciate your efforts to create the tree but you need to understand that the way that particular tree is created is not the correct way to make a tree. Either that tree should look like this -
but since you are showing one generation only I don't think there is even a need to create a tree. And if you wish to use it, it should be placed inside the infobox officeholder template where it will look much much better, but I think you should gain consensus at its talk page or over here only. Best of luck. Thanks. VarunFEB2003I am Offline 14:05, 6 August 2016 (UTC)
@Part: Hello that page you show shows a number of generations. Your tree shows only 1 generation for which trees aren't made. I haven't read the WP:MOS but there may be a note for trees there. I am requesting help to resolve this. VarunFEB2003I am Offline 11:31, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
@VarunFEB2003: In my view this is systemic bias. It's difficult to access multiple generations for cultures with oral histories. The information although covering one generation is perfectly correct and is presented in a visual way which some readers might appreciate. The aim of Wikipedia is to share knowledge, not to arbitrarily delete content. I do not see how including the figure damages the article. Part (talk) 12:13, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
3O Response:@VarunFEB2003 and Part: Hello! Let's see if I can get this resolved.
Part, it looks like you are trying to put Ancestry information for Nelson Mandela based on this diff. You used one of a few correct templates for this purpose, and it was reverted by VarunFEB2003
VarunFEB2003, you disagree with the use of the Ahnentafel style of family trees, and you disagree with the addition of the geneological information at all because there is only information for one generation.
Existing consesnus:Wikipedia:WikiProject Genealogy appears to be fairly dead, and I can find no previous consensus on this matter.
Reccomendation: Per WP:PRESERVE, I would suggest that the genealogical information remain in the article, in the form that Part submitted it in (Unless more information can be added, of course). AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 14:28, 7 August 2016 (UTC)

Recent changes
In notifications, the icon for Notices has been changed from a speech-bubble icon () to a tray icon () for consistency. The Alerts icon has been redesigned too. The colors have been changed for accessibility. [11]
Problems
If you use the wikEd gadget, changes you made were not kept when you switched from the wikitext editor to the visual editor while you were editing. This has now been fixed. [12]
Changes this week
Wikimedia search will now ignore question marks at the end of the sentences or words you use when you search. Until now the question mark was just a wildcard. [13]
On Commons, UploadWizard will now be available on mobile, rather than just the old upload form. This should reduce the workload for the community in reviewing images. [14]
When you edit with the visual editor a puzzle symbol tells you there is an invisible template in the article. It will now mention the name of the template. [15]
The button to read something in another language will move for mobile users. This will happen on 9 August. [16]
When someone mentions you and links to your user page you get a notification. You will now get a notification when you mention yourself this way. [17]
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 9 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 10 August. It will be on all wikis from 11 August (calendar).

Problems
Last week Tech News announced you will get a notification when you mention yourself the same way as if someone else had mentioned you. This caused some problems and will happen later instead. [19]
Creating and editing links to sections on other pages on the wiki now works again in the visual editor. [20]
For some users, cross-wiki notifications haven't been working properly. The count has been wrong when only cross-wiki notifications were present. The cross-wiki bundle has been showing only the names of wikis and not the actual notifications. This will be fixed soon. [21][22]
Changes this week
The login session when you choose "Keep me logged in" will now last a year. Previously it was 30 days. This will happen on August 16. [23]
Some abuse filters will have to be updated during the week. This is because a bug will be fixed. [24]
In compact language links, two new kinds of languages will be shown in the shorter language list: Languages that are used in the article's text, and languages where the article has a badge like "featured article" or "good article". [25][26]
The visual editor will be available by default for logged-out editors on Wikipedias that use the Arabic script. It is already default for logged-in editors. [27]
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from August 16. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from August 17. It will be on all wikis from August 18 (calendar).

Future changes
Starting the week of August 22 there will be three software deployment windows. They will be at 13:00, 18:00, and 23:00 UTC. This is to have more times when software of the wikis can be updated and make it easier for developers in different parts of the world. [28]

@Whatamidoing (WMF): Sorry for the late reply! I read about that at Village Pump (Technical) but as I barely ever make a edit on other Wikis I do not require it. Anyway thanks a lot. I appreciate your response. VarunFEB2003I am Offline 11:56, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
The thing I find most useful is the line that turns the user interface into English (in my case), no matter what the language of the local wiki is. I'm pretty good at finding the Edit button, etc., anyway, but it's still nice for unfamiliar wikis. :-) Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 19:19, 18 August 2016 (UTC)
Look at m:User:Whatamidoing (WMF)/global.js. There's a blob about halfway down that begins with the line /* Change language to English */. Copy that whole blob (down to the next line that has a similar header, // [[File:userinfo.js]], which is the start of the next script) into your own global.js page on Meta (which should be at m:User:VarunFEB2003/global.js). Save and reload the page. After that, every time you go to a new wiki, it will change the user interface language (so the buttons, but not the article content, etc.). Usually, the first time you visit a non-English wiki, it'll show you the original language and then post a little note saying that it's changed your preferences. When you go to another page on that wiki (even if it's months later) or re-load that page, then it will switch things to English. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 15:15, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
Explanation to why NeilN declined your second request
NeilN declined your second request because in WP:UPROT, User pages and subpages can be protected upon a simple request from the user, as long as a need exists—pages in userspace should not be automatically or pre-emptively protected. An example of this is that usually, user pages of vandal fighters are semi-protected because vandals want attention, so they try to get attention by vandalising a user's user page to get their attention. This is unrelated, but in Wikipedia, we try to deny those vandals the attention. Dat GuyTalkContribs13:16, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
Your English is confusing me a bit, however only administrators are allowed to protect pages since they gain these responsibilities after undergoing a community review process (known as RFA) If anyone would have the ability to protect pages, delete pages, block editors, etc. then Wikipedia will get destroyed by vandalism Sorry if this pings you Pancake . Dat GuyTalkContribs13:59, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
Probably you got confused! I mean then why do admins protect their userspace pages (all of them) that to with full-protection! They are no exceptions..or are they? VarunFEB2003I am Offline 14:03, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
Well, Nihonjoe is a 'crat, so he probably gets vandalised even more than most administrators and other users. If your user page or subpage is constantly vandalised, you can ask for semi-protection, but only then. Also, Nihonjoe gave his userpage full protection since he is a 'crat, and 'crats have sysop permissions which let them edit full-protected pages. Dat GuyTalkContribs14:12, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
why do admins protect their userspace pages (all of them) that to with full-protection! They are no exceptions - I'm an admin. Can you find any of my subpages which are fully-protected? If you can, who protected them - myself or another admin? --Redrose64 (talk) 20:29, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
You were right to say what you said to Iryna. She just can't mentally handle being told she's wrong. Don't let people tell you that you don't have the right to speak your mind because you haven't been around long enough or convince you not to stand up for someone. People like that are only nice to you as long as you do what they say. -2601:546:8103:290:13E:DF48:57E2:696B (talk) 08:17, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
Would you like to involve Iryna in a proper discussion, or would you just like to say that she 'can't mentally handle being told she's wrong'? Also, nobody is telling Varun he doesn't have his right to speak his mind, however Callmemirela suggested that Varun should learn more of the guidelines and policies before he tries to tell others what to do, which Varun is certainly on the right path for. Dat GuyTalkContribs08:28, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
Hello Dat Guy, let me say sorry because he will never! Moreover dearest IP I fully respect that you are trying to give me a advise in absolutely good-faith, however later when some admins(who are much, much, much more experienced than me) investigated that issue I did realize that I was wrong and due to lack of experience I had not done the right thing to Iryna: the reason I apologized. Moreover Dat Guy tried to give you a very true advise and you should fully respect users who have been here for a long time and not be uncivil to them. Hope that helps! Thanks and Regards. VarunFEB2003I am Offline 11:43, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
@Join30: Hello, Nice to see you around and I hope you stay here! Placing just 2 equal to (=) sign on both sides of the heading, makes it appear as a heading unlike HTML where you need to put */ */ in front and back of your headings. Just write == Section Name == for the title! Interested in The Wikipedia Adventure?!VarunFEB2003I am Online 13:24, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
Ya I realized that while sleeping! I was coming back here to correct it but I realized that you corrected it. Those symbols are used in the edit summary fielde to indicate a section and I jumbled all of it! Thanks! VarunFEB2003I am Offline 12:21, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
