Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!
Hello,
Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!
From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.
If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.
Thank you!

About a declined draft
Hi Utopes , i'm a contributor to this draft article Draft:Diego_Tryno and i just saw that it was declined 12 November 2019 and the issue is to do with notability of musicians.I checked on it today and i saw that it now has few references than before and i do want to add more references but can you please explain to me how the references on it doesn't meet the notability category? I created the draft on my sandbox and i was later notified that there was a duplicate so i copied and added my information on the already submitted article ,unfortunately it was declined because it was a duplicate ,so i have been watching the submitted article instead and i'm curious to know why it has been declined ,so that i will see what needs to be corrected. Please notify me
- Hello Sir/Mam,Greetings from South Africa, friendly advice ,you should consider signing your post ,so that we know who you are and it will be easier to ping you .you just add this {~ ~ ~ ~] ignoring the brackets and also not spacing at the end of your post.Anyway i saw that you had interest in the declined draft Diego Tryno ,i already submitted case to the reviewer Utopes ,if you scroll above you will see my discussion with him and i explained the notablity issue. He is handling the issue. The references are now few because i was asked to remove references that were useless to the article and only leave important references.I din't quite understand the part about your sandbox but hopefully after going through my discussion with him ,you will be answered,Happy Monday to you .Cheers! - Hi, @Georgiamarlins: ,thank you for the advice i know how to sign post i just forgot but i will try not to forget often.I wen't through your discussion just now and i understand .Thanks for the heads up, so @Utopes: i withdraw my question i didn't know someone had already submitted a similar question i blame myself for now scrolling to the bottom before i opened a new section.Let me know if there is anything i can contribute on the said draft for now i think i will leave it as it is. @Utopes: If you could also check and review my recent submission Draft:Nutty_o i would i appreciate it Selena Moreland (talk) 13:45, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
- Hello Selena,@Selena Moreland:greetings from Zimbabwe, you don't have to leave the article as it is ,if you have anything to add please do ,the article is not limited to one contributor ,anyone with information can contribute to it as long as they have references to it ,the article is still short and i believe if you have information to expand it ,it will be great.I also invite you to join Wikipedia:WikiProject_Africa i have seen your article about nutty O and i figured out you might want to join the project.Happy Tuesday to you .Cheers!Georgiamarlins (talk) 13:38, 26 November 2019 (UTC)
- Hi,@Georgiamarlins: ,thanks,by leaving it ,i meant i see nothing wrong with it for now ,i wanted to add the awards section but i haven't been able to find the newspaper that has information about his awards online ,except a old torn paper,it doesnt even have ISBN otherwise for now i will go with whats on the draft. Thanks for the invitation for the Wikipedia Africa project i will look at it. @Utopes: please check my nutty o draft when you are done with the diego tryno draft, also how many edits or articles do i have to make in order to be a reviewer?Selena Moreland (talk) 18:27, 26 November 2019 (UTC)
- Hey there @Selena Moreland:. I have been working with Georgia about improving the sourcing of the Diego Tryno article, and we had come to a consensus that there are reliable sources that exist for Tryno. I intend on checking out Nutty O as well. I will keep my response brief, as Georgia answered the question well. In the meantime, you are free to add whatever you wish to the Diego Tryno article. However, make sure that all content added is supported by reliable, independent sources. Have a good week! Utopes (talk) 04:11, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
- Hi @Utopes:. Seems like everytime i check the draft there is something different about it, i do want to add information but i'm scared i'm going to mess it up . There has been multiple news that mentions him winning awards ,do you think i should mention that in the draft? for instance i just added a citation that you asked for about the Metro fm ,but in that same globenew24article it mentions that he is an award winning artist and that's common in most of the sources ,should we add that to the information?

- Hey @Selena Moreland:, don't worry about making mistakes. You're not going to create a perfect article in just one edit, as articles on Wikipedia are constantly a work=in-progress. Even if you make a mistake, it can be easily fixed, so don't let that worry you. As to awards, I read somewhere that Tryno won something in 2014 for being a "breakout sensation", but I don't know all the details. Awards are always great to include, as they demonstrate the notability of the subject. Just make sure that a reliable source is present that talks about Tryno winning the award. Utopes (talk) 00:36, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Once gain @Utopes:. I did my own reading through all the available sources and i added the award section, the first award has been mentioned multiple times so i added that only ,i also added the music charts section ,i added few new references but i'm still looking for more.I hope my contribution was substantial. Thanks Selena Moreland (talk) 08:52, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
- Hi @Utopes:, i have added all citations need to the draft Diego Tryno but i might have repeated citations on the award section ,still not sure how to site a link that talks for example about early life and then in the same link it has information about for example discography,do i reference it on early life and then reference it again on discography? that's still something that confuses me.However i feel i have exhausted my contribution on that draft article ,i will continue adding new sources if i find them, but for now can you take a look at my nutty o draft article ,i'm taking a break on wikipedia because i want to travel in few days so i need to make sure i attend to all my wikipedia queries and out of curiosity when are you going to review the diego tryno draft article? ,i know i asked a lot of questions at once ,i'm just avoiding to ping you once again.ThanksSelena Moreland (talk) 20:36, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

The inactivity grace period within which a new request for adminship is not required has been reduced from three years to two. Additionally, Bureaucrats are permitted to use their discretion when returning administrator rights.
- Following a proposal, the edit filter mailing list has been opened up to users with the Edit Filter Helper right.

Dear Utopes,
thank you for your review time and comment.
What makes this article particularly challenging is that the person in focus’s family, Mr. Kevork Yeramian’s family, is the biggest source of most content (his wife and children), in addition to others as eye-witness to Mr. Yeramian’s significant contribution over the years. Other material such as photos and some of the text info are either from the 80s and not digitized (no online sources to reference) or inaccessible (since they are located in war-torn Aleppo, Syria).Mr. Yeramian’s work had (and has) a significant influence on the Armenian and Arab communities in Aleppo and some other cities.
Is it possible to add Mr. Kevork Yeramian’s family (names, contact) as an additional referencing resource? How is it possible to add non-digital sources and sources which are not online?
Please, I need your help in making this more acceptable. How is it possible to add more references considering the conditions above? Your support is much appreciated.
Additionally, even though this might not sound much since it's a verbal statement written here, I personally guarantee the reliability of the page's content, am personally responsible for any consequences that result in violation of Wikimedia's regulations and code of conduct. I can also include this statement in the page. Please take this statement into consideration during the review process.
Thank you for your time, understanding, and support.

New Page Review newsletter December 2019
- Reviewer of the Year
This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.
Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.
Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.
Thanks to them and to everyone reading this who has participated in New Page Patrol this year.

- Redirect autopatrol
A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.
- Source Guide Discussion
Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). Please watch the New Page Patrol talk page for more information.
- This month's refresher course
While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.

Autopatrol
Hey, just letting you know that I saw the new request for perms at autopatrol, and also your comment about it on RAUTO. I'm going to avoid conferring or declining the perm for the reasons I already stated, but I will be following it. signed, Rosguill talk 18:21, 27 December 2019 (UTC)
- That's fair; you are somewhat "involved" with this request. I hope you understand where I'm coming from though. Somebody who creates exclusively short articles isn't necessarily a bad editor, don't get me wrong. However in my eyes, there is no way to determine whether good article creation habits will continue for articles beyond the topic the stubs were being created on, which is why I wouldn't propose somebody who only creates shorter articles. The stubs are not enough evidence. Utopes (talk) 18:26, 27 December 2019 (UTC)
