Talk pages consultation 2019
The Wikimedia Foundation has invited the various Wikimedia communities, including the English Wikipedia, to participate in a consultation on improving communication methods within the Wikimedia projects. As such, a request for comment has been created at Wikipedia:Talk pages consultation 2019. You are invited to express your views in the discussion. ~ Winged BladesGodric 05:23, 24 February 2019 (UTC)

Invitation to User surevey 1
Hello! There is an ongoing survey going on at User:ImmortalWizard/User survey 1. As a fellow Wikipedian ImmortalWizard would like you to answer some questions. It wouldn't take too long, and your participation will be appreciated. Thanks, THE NEW ImmortalWizard(chat) 17:07, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
- I see you have closed the survey. Just a suggestion: start with answering the question "why"?, "why are you asking for opinion? and what are your objectives?" if some people found the survey not-helpful, I feel that the reason was not clarifying the point. Anyway, the questions you asked have been asked several times different surveys, you may explore meta:Research. --Titodutta (talk) 22:03, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
Thank You!
Hey, thank you very much for considering me worthy enough of the award! I am really grateful and you are really amazing! I would continue to do my best to contribute to Wikipedia. Adityavagarwal (talk) 09:03, 25 February 2019 (UTC)

WikiProject:Bangladesh
Dear sir,
Since the WikiProject of Bangladesh is largely inactive, I thought it would be better to come to you. Even though Bangladesh did not exist during his lifetime, Rabindranath Tagore is considered a highly influential figure in the country. So it makes sense that he has been added to this WikiProject (even marked as "top" important). Jagadish Chandra Bose is also part of the project since he was born in a place which exists in modern day Bangladesh. If that's the case, I think Amartya Sen should also be added due to his birthplace and probably Satyendra Nath Bose, since he had some influence in the country's education. (Fun fact: We both have the same birth date!)
Thank you,
THE NEW ImmortalWizard(chat) 10:45, 25 February 2019 (UTC)
- Tagore's article definitely comes under WikiProject Bangladesh, and it i marked accordingly. Jagadish Bose article is also under Bangladesh WikiProject, mid-importance. I have not checked the other two articles. Could you clarify your query? I agree that several articles related to Bengali literature, culture come under both WP Bangladesh and India. But, are not we already doing it? --Titodutta (talk) 21:55, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
- Unlike the first two, the latter two isn't considered part of WP:BAN, even though Sen was born in a place which exists in Bangladesh today and Satyendra complete his education here. I would like to know why. THE NEW ImmortalWizard(chat) 22:10, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
- Amartya Sen article may come under Bangladesh WikiProject, I don't see problem there. Sen was born in a city in current Bangladesh. He is also an honorary citizen of the country. What I understand: when you put an article under a WikiProject that might be because of 2 reasons: a) primarily the article directly comes under the scope of the WikiProject, and b) the project members woulc collaboratively work to further improve the article.
Satyen Bose article comes under WikiProject Bangladesh, I think, he was a lectures in Dhaka, from there he started Bose–Einstein statistics. Anyway, if Bangladesh noticeboard is inactive, you may post the same question on WT:INB where you may get some good suggestions specially on the part: can a pre-1947/71 topic be part of WikiProject Bangladesh? Regards. --Titodutta (talk) 22:20, 26 February 2019 (UTC)

- Hello, you need to work more on this article. Please read WP:ANYBIO. All I can understand from this article that he is a music composer, but how does he pass (general) notability guidelines? Please expand the draft. Feel free to ask question. Regards. --Titodutta (talk) 19:31, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Administrators' newsletter – March 2019
News and updates for administrators from the past month (February 2019).
Interface administrator changes

- The RfC on administrator activity requirements failed to reach consensus for any proposal.
- Following discussions at the Bureaucrats' noticeboard and Wikipedia talk:Administrators, an earlier change to the restoration of adminship policy was reverted. If requested, bureaucrats will not restore administrator permissions removed due to inactivity if there have been five years without a logged administrator action; this "five year rule" does not apply to permissions removed voluntarily.
- A new tool is available to help determine if a given IP is an open proxy/VPN/webhost/compromised host.
- The Arbitration Committee announced two new OTRS queues. Both are meant solely for cases involving private information; other cases will continue to be handled at the appropriate venues (e.g., WP:COIN or WP:SPI).
paid-en-wpwikipedia.org

has been set up to receive private requests for CheckUser. For instance, requests for IP block exemption for anonymous proxy editing should now be sent to this address instead of the functionaries-en list.

Please participate to the talk pages consultation
Hello
Our team at the Wikimedia Foundation is working on a project to improve the ease-of-use and productivity of wiki talk pages. As a Teahouse host, I can imagine you’ve run into challenges explaining talk pages to first-time participants.
We want all contributors to be able to talk to each other on the wikis – to ask questions, to resolve differences, to organize projects and to make decisions. Communication is essential for the depth and quality of our content, and the health of our communities. We're currently leading a global consultation on how to improve talk pages, and we're looking for people that can report on their experiences using (or helping other people to use) wiki talk pages. We'd like to invite you to participate in the consultation, and invite new users to join too.
We thank you in advance for your participation and your help.

Administrators' newsletter – April 2019
News and updates for administrators from the past month (March 2019).
Interface administrator changes
|
|
- In Special:Preferences under "Appearance" → "Advanced options", there is now an option to show a confirmation prompt when clicking on a rollback link.
- The Wikimedia Foundation's Community health initiative plans to design and build a new user reporting system to make it easier for people experiencing harassment and other forms of abuse to provide accurate information to the appropriate channel for action to be taken. Please see meta:Community health initiative/User reporting system consultation 2019 to provide your input on this idea.
- The Arbitration Committee clarified that the General 1RR prohibition for Palestine-Israel articles may only be enforced on pages with the {{ARBPIA 1RR editnotice}} edit notice.
- Two more administrator accounts were compromised. Evidence has shown that these attacks, like previous incidents, were due to reusing a password that was used on another website that suffered a data breach. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately. All admins are strongly encouraged to enable two-factor authentication, please consider doing so. Please always practice appropriate account security by ensuring your password is secure and unique to Wikimedia.
- As a reminder, according to WP:NOQUORUM, administrators looking to close or relist an AfD should evaluate a nomination that has received few or no comments as if it were a proposed deletion (PROD) prior to determining whether it should be relisted.
