Userpages
Hey, I noticed you had an interest in designing userpages. I'm bored of mine and am rather inept at any technical editing, and any help (or even a design from you) would be much appreciated. Thanks! Yaksar (let's chat) 00:19, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
- If you'd like (since you do seem to enjoy making them) I'd be cool with you doing mine for me. I'd like for it to be different than your's though (variety's always good.) Yaksar (let's chat) 20:30, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
- ok, I will do, Is the weekend ok? I'm pretty busy during the week due to work. Thomas888b (talk) 20:31, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
- No rush at all, whenever's best. I created User:Yaksar/new for your use. Yaksar (let's chat) 20:38, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
- It's a bit harsh, to be honest, I'd prefer something a bit softer. To be honest, I've got no problem with the default color scheme, and don't even need the whole bubble design, I just want something a bit more organized and sorted (like how your page has things sorted into sections and links. Yaksar (let's chat) 18:52, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
- The white on black works fine, thanks. If you would prefer to have the userbox there I'm cool with that, but if you don't really care I guess I'd say no. And thanks again! Yaksar (let's chat) 19:23, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

- That's alright, just checking in. I added some WikiProject boxes, but feel free to put them wherever. Also, I just want to say that I'm really cool with keeping everything simple. I don't really need rounded edges or a color scheme. And thanks again!--Yaksar (let's chat) 03:31, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Wikiproject Essex
Thanks for the invite but I have plenty to do with Somerset & the southwest of England. I only edited Boreham following the request at WP:UKGEO.— Rod talk 14:10, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for your invite - unfortunately I have too many other commitments at the moment to join and be of any real use. As an aside, you may find it more simple to set up a taskforce so that you can still remain under the umbrella of the uk geography project. They are also easier to start. Normally they are for clean-up and other tasks.
- You may find that there are not enough editors to justify a separate project also. I would be happy to help with copyediting etc. once it is set up though. Chaosdruid (talk) 20:08, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
- Re the proposed Essex project, you've got 4 people so it may worth being WP:BOLD and starting it. I got WP:MILLS off the ground with just 5 members. Maybe you could get a mention in the Signpost once it has been created. Good luck! Mjroots (talk) 12:19, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi Thomas, and welcome on board the WikiProject Desk. I saw your preliminary questions in the interview room and just wanted to let you know that for your first question, "When was WikiProject Medicine founded, and who by?", you can get the answer yourself by going to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Medicine > History > earliest. You can also get a sense of potential people to interview by doing the same thing as mentioned, but click on Contributors. This will let you see which editors are the most active, and when they last posted on the project. Hope this helps. Cheers. – SMasters (talk) 04:23, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

- TIP: You can get your stats from Wikipedia:WikiProject Medicine/Assessment#Statistics. FA 61; FL 10; GA 97; with a total of 25,366 assessed articles. Most projects have an assessment box like this, sometimes on the project's main page, and sometimes on a separate assessment page. The project has 15 task force (this is substantial for a project and is worth a mention). Hope this helps. Cheers. – SMasters (talk) 00:22, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Virus project
Hi, thanks for the message on my Talk Page. Yes, I know the project has seen little activity of late and I welcome you attempts to revive it - there's much to be done. How do you see your role as co-ordinator? It would be great to see lots of new articles on viruses and virology, but many of the existing ones needed improving. I am currently working, on and off on, History of viruses and History of virology, although I have a writer's block at the moment. I am also keen to get Hepatitis B to FA. Thoughts? Graham Colm (talk) 21:32, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
- That sounds like a good plan. I felt that WikiProject Viruses was needed, so I decided to attempt to revive it. The histories sound like a good idea to work on. I would be happy if you could bring Hep B to Fa, one of my favorite viruses (Don't Know Why). What do you mean by 'How do you see your role as co-ordinator?' I'm sorry, I'm On UTC, and am getting a tad tired (Up Early). -- Thomas888b (Say Hi) 21:36, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Status indicator
It's pretty simple once you've got it installed, and even simple to install.
Here's what you need to do: Add {{Statustop}} to your user talk page (and/or user page). Then, modify the contents of your JS script for whatever skin you're using. For me, (and probably for you as well, it's the Vector one. Yours is at User:Thomas888b/vector.js. You'll want to add the following code:
importScript('User:Xenocidic/statusChanger2.js'); // Linkback: [[User:Xenocidic/statusChanger2.js]]
.
Once installed, refresh your browser's cache. When you log in and out, be sure to click the word at the top of the screen that corresponds to your status (it doesn't update by itself). Bob the WikipediaN (talk • contribs) 18:17, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- I did this, yet can't see the part to set status :-( I'm using Chrome on Windows 7. I cleared the cache (Is this correct? couldn't find refresh cache). Any ideas? -- Thomas888b (Say Hi) 18:29, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

- You should also install WP:QUI, it made my life a lot easier as I kept forgetting to update the status. Qui makes it easy as it's a constant reminder at the top of the screen, plus you can just change the status with a couple of clicks (and not have to type anything). You just have to copy and paste to install. –SMasters (talk) 08:47, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Rollback Granted
I have granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe you can be trusted to use rollback correctly, and for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. Reviewer granted
Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.
If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Dabomb87 (talk) 14:31, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

MOTD's State of Emergency + 1st of May's Motto
As you probably already know, we are facing some problems at MOTD. I am personally monitoring all the nominations on a daily basis and I'm finding very difficult to aprove the motto for the next day. The number of nominations has grown significantly, but even then it seems not enough. Please, if you have time, take a look at the nominations. And, if you like some of them but you think they are not good enough for being approved because of the set of links or and etcetera, please, try to improve them where it is possible. At this rate, I fear that we will see the end of the project. Thanks in advance.

Okay, I'm here again to bother you (again and again... sorry). Things seem to go much better at MOTD, right now. THANK YOU!!!
The reason why I'm writing you is the following: next Sunday (8th of May) is Mother's Day. I know that it is celebrated on different days around the world, but I'd love if we could (and are able to) make our "very-little" contribution in honour of all the mothers in the world. For the upcoming 8th of May (Sunday) there is already a motto in schedule, but I think that we can move the motto approved for that day to another date and to put one about mothers in place of it. Here is my nomination.
Thank you in advance and all the best! –pjoef (talk • contribs) 12:47, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
MOTD Barnstar for helping to keep our project "alive"
The MOTD Barnstar | ||
I award the MOTD Barnstar to Thomas888b for helping to keep our project "alive" during this difficult time. Without you and your so precious help and contributions, we all probably would have seen the end of this project. A BIG THANK YOU!!! –pjoef (talk • contribs) 19:48, 3 May 2011 (UTC) |
A brief note, please, read it carefully, especially the last part in bold: The last time we (our project) gave awards to our (its) members on last Summer, then the number of new nominations and reviews of the existing nominations has been diminishing. The end result was the "April crisis" with no mottos for about an entire week. On the contrary, I hope this award will help to maintain our level high or, at least, appropriate to its needs, the needs of our project. I think that around 10 minutes a week to "devote" to the project, when it is possible of course, should be more than enough to achieve the desired result.
Of course, I gave you this award personally, in a personal way and not in the name of the project. This is just a way to say a BIG thank you, so, refrain from returning the award to me or I would be overwhelmed by stars and banners and it is not my intention to "profit" on this, really! Please, do NOT return the award! And, there is no need to thank me, it was my pleasure.
Thanks again (I think I can speak for all the contributors to MOTD) and all the very best!!! –pjoef (talk • contribs) 19:48, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Hello Thomas, I've tweaked your archiving again...let's see if it works this time. If not, I'll try again. :)

- I'm trying to get your indexing working now...I have to blank your intermediary page for now to get it to work; we'll see if we can add back after that.
- Sorry to cause more trouble.
- Two Questions:
- 1. Is it possible to make the bot archive the two tb notices.
- 2. My archive is qetting quite big. do you think doing it monthly or by numbers would be better? If so, would you be able to sort this out?
- Thanks,
- -- Thomas888b (Say Hi) 07:25, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
- (P.S. Thanks for sorting it out so far)
- The archive bot uses timestamps to operate and since the tb's above don't have them it won't do it but if you want them archived, you can do it manually (cut & paste). Alternatively, if they have already served their purpose, you can just delete them.
- I have moved your archiving scheme to the numbering system and adjusted it to 200K for size. This will certainly help me get the indexing working correctly. :)

Speedy deletion declined: Spots v Stripes Challenge Bar
Hello Thomas888b. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Spots v Stripes Challenge Bar, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Contains sufficient content to be a stub. Thank you. Salvio Let's talk about it! 19:10, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but I don't see how that is sufficient to meet Wikipedia's quality guidelines. -- Thomas888b (Say Hi) 19:17, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
- The content of the article may not be enough to meet Wikipedia's quality guideline, but criterion A3 only applies to articles containing no meaningful content; in particular, the text of criterion reads: however, a very short article may be a valid stub if it has context, in which case it is not eligible for deletion under this criterion.
In my opinion, Spots v Stripes Challenge Bar contains enough content to be a stub. If you still think the page should be deleted, please feel free to WP:PROD it or send it to WP:AFD. Salvio Let's talk about it! 19:37, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Rather than PROD it, since you raise the idea of a redirect in your rationale, might I be so bold as to suggest simply redirecting the article to the list you referred to and adding the product to said list? Sorry to intrude!--Yaksar (let's chat) 06:58, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

The article Big Fat Simulations has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- notability not established for the developer.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Ost (talk) 18:02, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
Nomination of Big Fat Simulations for deletion
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Big Fat Simulations is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Big Fat Simulations until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Ost (talk) 15:13, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
