NPR Newsletter No.11 25 May 2018
ACTRIAL:
- WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.
Deletion tags
- Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.
Backlog drive:
- A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.
Editathons
- There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.
Paid editing - new policy
- Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.
Subject-specific notability guidelines
- The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
- Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
Not English
- A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.
News
- Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.
- The next issue of The Signpost has been published. The newspaper is one of the best ways to stay up to date with news and new developments. between our newsletters.

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- You can now use global preferences on most wikis. This means you can set preferences for all wikis at the same time. Before this you had to change them on each individual wiki. Global preferences will come to the Wikipedias later this week. [1][2]
- It is now easier for blocked mobile users to see why they were blocked. [3]
- Wikidata now supports lexicographical data. This helps describe words.
- There is now a checkbox on Special:ListUsers to let you see only users in temporary user groups. [4]
- Some rare invisible Unicode characters have recently been banned from page titles. This includes soft hyphens (U+00AD) and left-to-right (U+2066) and right-to-left (U+2067) isolate markers. Existing pages with these characters will soon be moved by a script. [5]
- There's a new Wikimedia Foundation team to support the Wikimedia technical communities. It's called the Technical Engagement team. Most of the team members did similar work in other teams before this. [6]
Problems
- Some translatable pages are showing old translations instead of latest ones. The cause of this issue has been fixed. We will update all pages automatically to show the latest translations. [7]
Changes later this week
- There will be a new special page named PasswordPolicies. This page gives information about the password rules for each user group on that wiki. [8]
- A new way to see moved paragraphs in diffs is coming to most wikis. This is to make it easier to find the moved paragraphs and the changes in them. [9]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 29 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 30 May. It will be on all wikis from 31 May (calendar).
- Wikis can enable Citoid to provide automatic reference look-up in the visual editor and the 2017 wikitext editor. This is complex. The tool will now disable itself if the configuration isn't correct. It has warned about this in the JavaScript console since February. Check that your wiki is configured correctly. You can ask for help if you need it. [10]
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 29 May at 18:30 (UTC). See how to join.
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 30 May at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- Content Translation drafts which have not been updated in over a year will be removed. This allows other users to translate those articles. [11]
- A survey is collecting information on what users think about how Wikimedia wiki pages are loaded. This information could be used in future development. [12]
- Some wikis will switch to use the Remex parsing library. This is to replace Tidy. It will happen on 30 May and 13 June. Wikis with fewer than 100 linter issues in the main namespace in all high-priority linter categories will switch. This includes Wikidata. Tidy will probably be removed on all wikis in the first week of July. [13][14]

Administrators' newsletter – June 2018
News and updates for administrators from the past month (May 2018).
- None
- Al Ameer son • AliveFreeHappy • Cenarium • Lupo • MichaelBillington
- Following a successful request for comment, administrators are now able to add and remove editors to the "event coordinator" group. Users in the event coordinator group have the ability to temporarily add the "confirmed" flag to new user accounts and to create many new user accounts without being hindered by a rate limit. Users will no longer need to be in the "account creator" group if they are in the event coordinator group.
- Following an AN discussion, all pages with content related to blockchain and cryptocurrencies, broadly construed, are now under indefinite general sanctions.
- IP-based cookie blocks should be deployed to English Wikipedia in June. This will cause the block of a logged-out user to be reloaded if they change IPs. This means in most cases, you may no longer need to do /64 range blocks on residential IPv6 addresses in order to effectively block the end user. It will also help combat abuse from IP hoppers in general. For the time being, it only affects users of the desktop interface.
- The Wikimedia Foundation's Anti-Harassment Tools team will build granular types of blocks in 2018 (e.g. a block from uploading or editing specific pages, categories, or namespaces, as opposed to a full-site block). Feedback on the concept may be left at the talk page.
- There is now a checkbox on Special:ListUsers to let you see only users in temporary user groups.
- It is now easier for blocked mobile users to see why they were blocked.
- A recent technical issue with the Arbitration Committee's spam filter inadvertently caused all messages sent to the committee through Wikipedia (i.e. Special:EmailUser/Arbitration Committee) to be discarded. If you attempted to send an email to the Arbitration Committee via Wikipedia between May 16 and May 31, your message was not received and you are encouraged to resend it. Messages sent outside of these dates or directly to the Arbitration Committee email address were not affected by this issue.
- In early May, an unusually high level of failed login attempts was observed. The WMF has stated that this was an "external effort to gain unauthorized access to random accounts". Under Wikipedia policy, administrators are required to have strong passwords. To further reinforce security, administrators should also consider enabling two-factor authentication. A committed identity can be used to verify that you are the true account owner in the event that your account is compromised and/or you are unable to log in.

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- The MonoBook skin has been optimised for mobile devices. It now looks different. [15]
- Planet Wikimedia collects blogs about Wikimedia. It will now use the Rawdog feed aggregator to do this instead of Planet. [16][17]
- Redirect links in Special:WhatLinksHere now link to the original page and not the target page. This was done earlier and changed the used messages on some pages. This was a problem for wikis that customized the message. A new change fixed this by using the old messages with one more parameter for customization. Wikis that already changed their customized messages will have to move the customization back again. [18]
Problems
- You will not be able to edit some wikis between 06:00 and 06:30 UTC on 13 June. You can see if your wiki is one of them.
- MassMessage did not work 24–28 May. This is also why last week's Tech News was late. [19]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 5 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 6 June. It will be on all wikis from 7 June (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 5 June at 18:30 (UTC). See how to join.
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 6 June at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- The new filters for edit review tools and interface for watchlists will leave beta. This is planned to happen in June or early July. [20][21]

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- Syntax highlighting has been a beta feature on Wikimedia wikis with text written from left to right. It is now a normal feature. It is based on CodeMirror. [27]
Changes later this week
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week.
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 19 June at 18:30 (UTC). See how to join.
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 20 June at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- Some old web browsers will not be able to read the Wikimedia wikis. This is because they use an insecure way to connect to them. This means that we get less security for everyone else too. This affects about 0.08% of all traffic to the Wikimedia wikis. This affects for example those who read Wikipedia on a PlayStation 3. [28][29]
- The new filters for edit review tools and interface for watchlists will leave beta. Because there is no new MediaWiki version this week it will happen on 25 June for most wikis. For the rest it will happen in early July. [30][31]
- All wikis that have not already done so will switch to use the Remex parsing library on 5 July. This is to replace Tidy. You can help fix remaining errors. [32]

HI TnT, You had asked that I write you about my experience with TParis. When I found out that this page "This High School Has Closets" I went to reddit and asked for help on finding out what to do. TParis wasn't helpful more judgemental. Telling me a "snowball's chance in hell" is not what I consider professional behavior and when I went back and told him that he was vindictive and posting his comments on RoySmith's page that he supported the decision. Here is the link to the screenshot that I took from reddit. (Redacted) I find Wikipedia to be very strong and biased against LGBT/people of colour articles. And I have been part of the community for many years. It was an all out assault to me just to get Mr. Greene's page kept up there. So, I rarely post because I do not have the energy to fight the bigotry I see here. However, when I posted Tiko Kerr, got no harrassment whatsoever. Keep in mind that "This High School Has Closests" I did not request nor create that page. I have found the environment at wikipedia to be rather acidic and unwelcoming. However, going on Wikipedia to post one's revenge isn't what I view as a welcoming environment. Tews~enwiki (talk) 20:35, 1 July 2018 (UTC)

June 2018
Hi TNT! I noticed you were an administrator and I was wondering if what I am doing is okay according to Wikipedia standards. I am completing an unpaid project for an organization where I am linking their resources to appropriate Wikipedia pages in the "External Link" section. Is what I am doing wrong? There has been a lot of conflict about this. If this is not okay, is there a way I could complete a similar project that is okay? Thank you! Rcar01 (talk) 19:49, 29 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Rcar01: Hey, thanks for getting in contact! As you're completing a project on behalf of a organisation, you have a "Conflict of Interest" - this is, what I believe, the root of the issue with adding these external links. Don't worry though, having a Conflict of Interest doesn't (normally) prevent you from making the edits, you just need to follow these steps, especially the part on disclosure - once you've done that, let me know, and I'll give it a quick check. Then you should be good to go, providing you follow our guidelines on external links - TNT 💖 19:57, 29 June 2018 (UTC)
Thank you so much! About the disclosure, would I put that on my user page or just any time I add one of the links? Rcar01 (talk) 20:02, 29 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Rcar01: Not a problem this page says "
You can also make a statement in the edit summary of any COI contribution. If you want to note the COI on your user page, you can use the {{UserboxCOI}} template
" - I'd personally recommend adding the {{UserboxCOI}} template to your user page. Some instructions on doing that can be found here. I'd also suggest the use of {{Request edit}} (instructions) if you're not 100% sure the external link belongs on a page - TNT 💖 20:07, 29 June 2018 (UTC)
Hi TNT! Thanks so much for your help. I was reluctant to disclose too much about the project without checking with the organization, but I did that this morning and they encouraged me to fill you in on the details and ask for some more guidance. So...I am a rising senior at a Rhode Island high school. I approached the Rhode Island State Archives about doing my senior project with them, and they, having heard about the National Archives Wikipedia Project, suggested I explore that. I myself use Wikipedia often, and I love its options and resources. Students often use Wikipedia as a "first round" of research, but our teachers encourage us to find primary sources, so connecting Wikipedia to them seemed like it would be valuable for all. I began by reading about the National Archives project and from what I saw there, it seemed like it would work to do something similar with the Rhode Island resources. So.. I guess my first question is, do you think this is an appropriate project? Or does it in some way violate Wikipedia protocol? And if it is ok to proceed, I have a few more questions: Do I need to put Conflict of Interest information on every edit that I do, or can it just be on my profile? If the former, can you point me to a page so I can see how others have handled this. Regarding links themselves, do you have recommendations or guidelines on whether it is more beneficial to add footnotes where we have sources, or add it as a link in a different section of the page. (To date, I have been putting them in External Links, but maybe they should be footnotes? ie. is a footnote more welcomed than an external link? Or is it considered a bigger edit and thus less welcomed?.) Finally, if you would like to speak with the person supervising the project, she can jump in at any time. Thank you again and sorry for this long post. Rcar01 (talk) 14:42, 2 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Rcar01: Thanks for getting in contact again Rcar01 - now that we know who you're working with on this, its a bit easier to provide relevant help. I definitely agree that Wikipedia is often used as a "first round" research resource for students - although a lot of educational institutes don't allow Wikipedia articles as references, the references we use in our articles are always a great place to start when looking into a new subject area.
- To your question of if your project is an appropriate one - I'm honestly not entirely sure. There's been some pushback on the idea at this discussion. That being said, our guideline on external links (WP:EL, namely "what can normally be linked"), suggests that links of the nature you're adding should be acceptable.
- I'd recommend you do the following:
- Disclose your conflict of interest on your user page (a simple message of "
I'm currently working with the Rhode Island State Archives to add relevant external links to articles
" would suffice). - Optionally run through "The Wikipedia Adventure" - this will get you acquainted with how to edit content and interact with other editors.
- Create a list in your user-space of articles you think would benefit from Rhode Island State Archive external links (e.g. User:Rcar01/Article list).
- Next to each item on your list, add the external link(s) you'd want to add.
- Ask for some opinions at Wikipedia:External links/Noticeboard (ping me and I'll help).
- If there's general agreement, work through your list slowly and carefully, adding the links - I'd suggest you also place a quick disclosure in each edit summary (e.g. "
Adding external link to Rhode Island State Archives, see [[User:Rcar01]] for COI disclosure
").
- Disclose your conflict of interest on your user page (a simple message of "
- If you're ever reverted (i.e. someone removes the external link you added), don't re-add it - either ask the editor why they removed it on their talk page, or create a new thread on the article's talk page. Wikipedia works on consensus, which in this case means you might not be able to do this project, but it's worth getting to at least 'step 5' and seeing what happens
- If there's anything further I can do to help you, please let me know - alternatively you may be able to get some assistance from WikiEdu or The Teahouse - TNT 💖 17:59, 2 July 2018 (UTC)
Hi TNT! Thank you so much for all of your help. I will follow those steps and return to you with any questions. Rcar01 (talk) 14:47, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

- An RfC about the deletion of drafts closed with a consensus to change the wording of WP:NMFD. Specifically, a draft that has been repeatedly resubmitted and declined at AfC without any substantial improvement may be deleted at MfD if consensus determines that it is unlikely to ever meet the requirements for mainspace and it otherwise meets one of the reasons for deletion outlined in the deletion policy.
- A request for comment closed with a consensus that the {{promising draft}} template cannot be used to indefinitely prevent a WP:G13 speedy deletion nomination.
- Starting on July 9, the WMF Security team, Trust & Safety, and the broader technical community will be seeking input on an upcoming change that will restrict editing of site-wide JavaScript and CSS to a new technical administrators user group. Bureaucrats and stewards will be able to grant this right per a community-defined process. The intention is to reduce the number of accounts who can edit frontend code to those who actually need to, which in turn lessens the risk of malicious code being added that compromises the security and privacy of everyone who accesses Wikipedia. For more information, please review the FAQ.
- Syntax highlighting has been graduated from a Beta feature on the English Wikipedia. To enable this feature, click the highlighter icon () in your editing toolbar (or under the hamburger menu in the 2017 wikitext editor). This feature can help prevent you from making mistakes when editing complex templates.
- IP-based cookie blocks should be deployed to English Wikipedia in July (previously scheduled for June).
- Currently around 20% of admins have enabled two-factor authentication, up from 17% a year ago. If you haven't already enabled it, please consider doing so. Regardless if you use 2FA, please practice appropriate account security by ensuring your password is secure and unique to Wikimedia.
... who you just blocked as a vandalism-only account was a throw-away account created with the intention to get it blocked, and preferably fast, but it wasn't an ordinary vandalism-only account but an account with a special purpose. It was created by Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/PavelStaykov to draw attention away from edits he made with an IP (Special:Contributions/51.38.82.237) on some of the articles only a minute or so before they were vandalized by the "Good bulgar" account (see page history of Talk:Genetic studies on Bulgarians for an example). And it obviously worked, because I seem to have been the only one who noticed it. I'm not criticising anyone for it though, I just wanted more people to know how PavelStaykov and a few others "work"... - Tom | Thomas.W talk 13:09, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Thomas.W: Hi Thomas.W - thanks for letting me know. I've seen other LTAs do similar things, but I evidently wasn't paying enough attention this time, so I do apologise. I'm happy to see Zzuuzz noticed and dealt with the issue. Seeing as this user has been disrupting since 2016 (going by the SPI), it may be worth creating a LTA page for them.
- Personally I'm against LTA pages, because a lot of malicious editors either strive to be inducted into its "hall of infamy" or read their own pages and change their "MO" making them more difficult to track - in cases like this however, having that trait documented would be useful - TNT 💖 14:18, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

Recent changes
- WebM video files have smaller file size but still be of the same quality. Creating WebM files will take longer time. [38]
- The new filters for edit review tools and interface for watchlists will leave beta. This was supposed to already have happened but was delayed. For most wikis this will happen on 9 July. For the rest it will happen on 16 July. [39]
- All wikis now use the Remex parsing library instead of Tidy. This could cause errors. You can help fix the errors. [40]
Problems
- When you rolled back an edit it could get both the
Rollback
andUndo
tags. This has been fixed. [41] - Rollbacks from autopatrolled users were not marked as patrolled. This has been fixed. [42]
Changes later this week
- When you edit a link in the visual editor there will be two separate buttons to change which page the link goes to (target) or its text (label). [43][44]
- On the mobile version you can find a link to an editor's contributions from their user page. Now this will work even if they haven't created a user page. [45]
- When you edit a discussion on the mobile version you sometimes get your signature automatically added. This will now not happen if you have already added a signature manually. This is to avoid double signatures. [46]
- Structured discussions toolbars will have more style options. [47]
- When you look at Wikimedia code in Gerrit there will be a new interface. It is on by default for new users. This is also true for developers. This is to make it easier to understand what is happening. [48]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 10 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 11 July. It will be on all wikis from 12 July (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 10 July at 18:30 (UTC). See how to join.
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 11 July at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- Today all administrators can edit CSS and JavaScript for the entire wiki. There will be a new user group for editing CSS and JavaScript. Administrators will no longer automatically be able to do this. This is because it is a security risk when all administrator accounts can edit JavaScript even if they never plan to or do not know how it works. You can read more. [49]
- Page previews will be on by default for new accounts. [50]

Jean-Albert Dadas
Thank you for your welcome, TNT! I'm looking at your kitten and I'm a little less upset now. Still, would you please take a look at Jean-Albert Dadas? I spent a lot of time on it today and another Wikipedia user just went and deleted it. I asked her for an explanation at User_talk:Chrissymad and she said he wasn't independently notable. As for me, I believe his incredible life and its impact on medicine makes him very notable. What do you think? Contains Sulfites (talk) 19:41, 14 July 2018 (UTC)
P.S. The French believe he's notable too: fr:Albert_Dadas. Contains Sulfites (talk) 19:45, 14 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Contains Sulfites: Hey Contains Sulfites, welcome to Wikipedia - its worth noting that our notability guidelines are different to that of the French Wikipedia. Perhaps you could take a look at the basic notability guidelines for biographies, and see which points Jean-Albert Dadas meets? - TNT 💖 19:53, 14 July 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the instructions, I had a look. He meets all the criteria. I didn't think I'd have to include more sources because I thought it was self-evident he was notable. Please look at the list of books that talk about him. There are more than a thousand. I haven't gone through them, but it's clear from the first page of results that they actually talk about him, not just mention him in passing. Please, revert the deletion. Or do I have to add more books as references? It seems pointless. Contains Sulfites (talk) 20:08, 14 July 2018 (UTC)
Well, I sorted it out. Much ado about nothing. If you're interested, you can check my last reply at User_talk:Chrissymad. Again, thank you for your help. Contains Sulfites (talk) 21:48, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

Recent changes
- When you log in to your account you can choose to keep being logged in. This checkbox now works better than before on the mobile version for users without JavaScript. [55]
- Wikis that use Citoid can automatically generate citations for Swedish news sites. This only works in the visual editor. This now works for Swedish public service radio. More will come. Others could use this to add news sites in other languages in the future. [56]
- Editors can do max 90 edits per minute. This is new since last month. This does not affect bots or administrators. [57]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 24 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 25 July. It will be on all wikis from 26 July (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 25 July at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.

A potential sockpuppet
Hi. can you check whether 116.108.201.32 and MyBleedingHeart (which has been blocked a few days ago for sockpuppetry) are the same person? Looks like a duck to me having analyzed the IPs edits of adding unsourced genres, which are strikingly similar to those of the registered editor. NPR Newsletter No.12 30 July 2018
|
Hello TheresNoTime/old, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!
- June backlog drive
Overall the June backlog drive was a success, reducing the last 3,000 or so to below 500. However, as expected, 90% of the patrolling was done by less than 10% of reviewers.
Since the drive closed, the backlog has begun to rise sharply again and is back up to nearly 1,400 already. Please help reduce this total and keep it from raising further by reviewing some articles each day.
- New technology, new rules
- New features are shortly going to be added to the Special:NewPagesFeed which include a list of drafts for review, OTRS flags for COPYVIO, and more granular filter preferences. More details can be found at this page.
- Probationary permissions: Now that PERM has been configured to allow expiry dates to all minor user rights, new NPR flag holders may sometimes be limited in the first instance to 6 months during which their work will be assessed for both quality and quantity of their reviews. This will allow admins to accord the right in borderline cases rather than make a flat out rejection.
- Current reviewers who have had the flag for longer than 6 months but have not used the permissions since they were granted will have the flag removed, but may still request to have it granted again in the future, subject to the same probationary period, if they wish to become an active reviewer.
- Editathons
- Editathons will continue through August. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.
- The Signpost
- The next issue of the monthly magazine will be out soon. The newspaper is an excellent way to stay up to date with news and new developments between our newsletters. If you have special messages to be published, or if you would like to submit an article (one about NPR perhaps?), don't hesitate to contact the editorial team here.
Go here to remove your name if you wish to opt-out of future mailings. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 00:00, 30 July 2018 (UTC)

Recent changes
- The design on Special:Log has changed. It will change again soon. Developers are working on fixing problems. [58]

- Deployment of 1.32.0-wmf.14 has been partially delayed. [61][62]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 31 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 1 August. It will be on all wikis from 2 August (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 31 July at 18:30 (UTC). See how to join.
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 1 August at 15:00 (UTC) as well as at 23:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- After a community discussion, a new group for users will be created. "Interface administrators" will be the only users allowed to edit interface pages like MediaWiki:Common.css or MediaWiki:Common.js. This is done to avoid technical issues and improve security. That change will be effective by the end of August 2018.

Administrators' newsletter – August 2018
News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2018).
- After a discussion at Meta, a new user group called "interface administrators" (formerly "technical administrator") has been created. Come the end of August, interface admins will be the only users able to edit site-wide JavaScript and CSS pages like MediaWiki:Common.js and MediaWiki:Common.css, or edit other user's personal JavaScript and CSS. The intention is to improve security and privacy by reducing the number of accounts which could be used to compromise the site or another user's account through malicious code. The new user group can be assigned and revoked by bureaucrats. Discussion is ongoing to establish details for implementing the group on the English Wikipedia.
- Following a request for comment, the WP:SISTER style guideline now states that in the mainspace, interwiki links to Wikinews should only be made as per the external links guideline. This generally means that within the body of an article, you should not link to Wikinews about a particular event that is only a part of the larger topic. Wikinews links in "external links" sections can be used where helpful, but not automatically if an equivalent article from a reliable news outlet could be linked in the same manner.
- The WMF Anti-Harassment Tools team is seeking input on the second set of wireframes for the Special:Block redesign that will introduce partial blocks. The new functionality will allow you to block a user from editing a specific set of pages, pages in a category, a namespace, and for specific actions such as moving pages and uploading files.
Page protection
Sorry about that. I didn't get an edit-conflict notice. You semi-protected for two weeks – probably a better idea. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 20:04, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

List of countries by military expenditures
Hi,
Concerning page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_military_expenditures
I've tried to add the aggregated military expenditure of the European Union. Including source as stated below. After this change and someone else's change, which both were reverted, the page is stated as permanent. Which is is not since the information changes over time.
This information is relevant in several ways: - Mr Trumps statement on 2% NATO defense budget
Rationale: NATO predominantly exists of US and EU countries
- Mr Trumps statement of exiting the NATO, hence placing the EU in a position where they are forced to unite military forces - EU long term process of unification and advancing EU wide collaboration on military.
Items:
| 3 || European Union || align=right| 200.0 || align="right" | 1.4
- [66] (2015) How much is spent on defence in the EU*
Maybe not formatted correctly but remains valid information. One source does not make information true. This aggregated information may not be in your source but is relevant in the context.
Kind regards, Michael Cornelissen The Netherlands

Latest message for Collaboration team newsletter; Growth team's newsletter invite
Hello
Sorry to use English if that's not your favorite language.
You are receiving this message because you were reading the Collaboration team newsletter.
The Collaboration team doesn't longer exists. That team was working on building features that encourage collaboration. This is the latest message for that newsletter.
The Growth Team, formed in July 2018, supports some former Collaboration projects. The Growth Team's main objective is to ease new editors' first steps on wikis, through software changes. You can discover all objectives and missions of the Growth team on its page.
If you wish to be informed about Growth team's updates about easing new users first steps, you can subscribe to the new list to get updates. The first message from Growth –with a call for feedback on a new project– will be posted in a few days!
If you have questions or you want to share experiences made on your wiki about new users' first steps, please post them on the team talk page, in any language.
On behalf of the Growth team, Trizek (WMF) (talk) 10:29, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

Question on Payment21 Page deletion
Hi, I understand the sanctions taken against the users who posted the entry about Payment21 in June 2018. These users got blocked and/or banned for valid reasons, and as a result, no form of appeal seems to be possible, even though the actual content of the article, that was affected by blocking these users, has not been reviewed with regards to its worthiness for publication. To what extent are other Wikipedia-admins allowed to publish a new article about this officially licensed Swiss-based payment gateway? I have analyzed a number of crypto-related entries on Wikipedia and realize that many of such crypto-currency-entries meet fewer inclusion requirements than this site. IMHO, it is indeed a genuine site and appears to be noteworthy in comparison to others. So I would like to check with the community whether or not Wikipedia needs an article about Payment21. Currently, I hesitate to move forward because of your earlier actions. Let me know if you are in the position to discuss this matter. Your guidance would be highly appreciated. Thanks for your consideration.

Hey TNT. Your alt account isn't flagged as autopatrolled, so the user talk pages/etc you're creating are showing as unpatrolled in the new pages feed. I think it's safe to tag the account as such. Home Lander (talk) 14:52, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
- What's the point of patrolling user talk pages? Natureium (talk) 14:53, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
- Natureium, to check them for the same stuff you might find anywhere else. You'd be surprised how many promo-only accounts paste content onto their user or user talk page. Also, once patrolled, they don't show highlighted in yellow on the new pages feed. Home Lander (talk) 14:57, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

Account blocking / unblocking
Hi - Edited Vistage page removing any possible editorializing and linking to Jury Verdict Sheet. Please let me know if you feel any other changes are needed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by EranSalu (talk • contribs) 04:13, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi - Not sure why Vistage International Page is blocked and edits removed. The info removed is the results of a lawsuit against one of the company's coaches and is sourced to a copy of the actual jury verdict sheet. Please review and unblock or contact me to explain reasoning. thank you!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by EranSalu (talk • contribs) 04:42, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for unblocking my account (User:Thegraciousfew) - I can understand why it was blocked given the problems with my son's account and all the associated sock puppets. I've spoken to my son about this and he seems sincere when he says that he will not attempt to edit or create any new accounts for at least 6 months when he may choose to apply to be unblocked. We do share a house and sometimes a computer, although he has no access to my PC user account or my Wikipedia account. My son has made many useful contributions to Wikipedia, along with quite a few contributions that have obviously caused problems. By way of a partial explanation, he is a young adult living with Asperger's Syndrome and sometimes gets fixated on things, such as creating inappropriate pages, sock puppets and getting into edit wars. Here's hoping there are no further problems! Many thanks. Thegraciousfew (talk) 11:09, 27 August 2018 (UTC)

Global block backlog
Hey TNT. Asking you since I don't know where to put this - there's multiple pending global lock requests at Meta:Steward requests/Global; some have been pending since August 17, and I just added a new one. Is there a proper noticeboard over there to report backlog? Home Lander (talk) 14:48, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Home Lander: There isn't really a noticeboard at Meta to report this (other than the Stewards noticeboard I guess?) - that being said, I'll work through them this evening. Apologies on behalf of the team for the backlog - TNT 💖 14:52, 30 August 2018 (UTC)

- Following a "stop-gap" discussion, six users have temporarily been made interface administrators while discussion is ongoing for a more permanent process for assigning the permission. Interface administrators are now the only editors allowed to edit sitewide CSS and JavaScript pages, as well as CSS/JS pages in another user's userspace. Previously, all administrators had this ability. The right can be granted and revoked by bureaucrats.

- The Arbitration Committee has resolved to perform a round of Checkuser and Oversight appointments. The usernames of all applicants will be shared with the Functionaries team, and they will be requested to assist in the vetting process. The deadline to submit an application is 23:59 UTC, 12 September, and the candidates that move forward will be published on-wiki for community comments on 18 September.

- You can get a notification when a link is made to a page you created. This has not worked since June. It was fixed last week. [85]
Changes later this week

Recent changes
- When you added or edited a template with the visual editor the input boxes were very big. This has been fixed. The input boxes will now be smaller until you click on them. Then they will change size to fit the text. [87]
Problems
- Some diffs showed lines in the wrong order. This was fixed last week. [88]
- Marking a cross-wiki notification as read didn't work every time. The other wiki was not updated. This has now been fixed. [89]
<maplink>
did not work for a few days. This was because of a bug. This has now been fixed. [90]{{subst:REVISIONUSER}}
is used by some templates. For a period edits saved with{{subst:REVISIONUSER}}
would save the previous user's name and not your username. This is now fixed. Edits made before the bug was fixed will still be wrong and need to be corrected. [91]- When you move a page the title still shows the old page name. The developers are working on fixing this. [92]
Changes later this week
- Because of a data centre test you will be able to read but not edit the wikis for up to an hour on 12 September and 10 October. This will start at 14:00 (UTC). You might lose edits if you try to save during this time. The time when you can't edit might be shorter than an hour. You can read more about this.
- Because of the data centre test there will be no new version of MediaWiki this week. Changes for this week will come next week instead.
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 11 Septmber at 18:30 (UTC). See how to join.
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 12 September at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- The developers work on making the wikis work better on mobile phones. There is a list of common problems when making content easier to read in the mobile view. You can add things to the page and ask others to help.

NPR Newsletter No.13 18 September 2018
Hello TheresNoTime/old, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!
The New Page Feed currently has 2700 unreviewed articles, up from just 500 at the start of July. For a while we were falling behind by an average of about 40 articles per day, but we have stabilised more recently. Please review some articles from the back of the queue if you can (Sort by: 'Oldest' at Special:NewPagesFeed), as we are very close to having articles older than one month.
- Project news
- The New Page Feed now has a new "Articles for Creation" option which will show drafts instead of articles in the feed, this shouldn't impact NPP activities and is part of the WMF's AfC Improvement Project.
- As part of this project, the feed will have some larger updates to functionality next month. Specifically, ORES predictions will be built in, which will automatically flag articles for potential issues such as vandalism or spam. Copyright violation detection will also be added to the new page feed. See the projects's talk page for more info.
- There are a number of coordination tasks for New Page Patrol that could use some help from experienced reviewers. See Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Coordination#Coordinator tasks for more info to see if you can help out.
- Other
- A new summary page of reliable sources has been created; Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources/Perennial sources, which summarizes existing RfCs or RSN discussions about regularly used sources.
- Moving to Draft and Page Mover
- Some unsuitable new articles can be best reviewed by moving them to the draft space, but reviewers need to do this carefully and sparingly. It is most useful for topics that look like they might have promise, but where the article as written would be unlikely to survive AfD. If the article can be easily fixed, or if the only issue is a lack of sourcing that is easily accessible, tagging or adding sources yourself is preferable. If sources do not appear to be available and the topic does not appear to be notable, tagging for deletion is preferable (PROD/AfD/CSD as appropriate). See additional guidance at WP:DRAFTIFY.
- If the user moves the draft back to mainspace, or recreates it in mainspace, please do not re-draftify the article (although swapping it to maintain the page history may be advisable in the case of copy-paste moves). AfC is optional except for editors with a clear conflict of interest.
- Articles that have been created in contravention of our paid-editing-requirements or written from a blatant NPOV perspective, or by authors with a clear COI might also be draftified at discretion.
- The best tool for draftification is User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js(info). Kindly adapt the text in the dialogue-pop-up as necessary (the default can also be changed like this). Note that if you do not have the Page Mover userright, the redirect from main will be automatically tagged as CSD R2, but in some cases it might be better to make this a redirect to a different page instead.
- The Page Mover userright can be useful for New Page Reviewers; occasionally page swapping is needed during NPR activities, and it helps avoid excessive R2 nominations which must be processed by admins. Note that the Page Mover userright has higher requirements than the NPR userright, and is generally given to users active at Requested Moves. Only reviewers who are very experienced and are also very active reviewers are likely to be granted it solely for NPP activities.

CUOS
I don't think I am taking myself seriously here, what I do think is your overreaction is uncalled for, and it does appear that you are doubling down on that reaction here ([98]). If you think this is an acceptable editing behaviour (and this isn't the first time) from any editor, notwithstanding an administrator/functionary/Wikimedia steward, I think it will be time to invite community feedback. Alex Shih (talk) 22:52, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
- You threatened me with that last time, and I'm yet to see anything come of it. I'm not a fan of someone who uses threats to silence people.
- You lorded it over us when you got elected to ArbCom, and now you're attempting to continue - I don't like that, and I dare say a majority of the community would agree. I rarely lose my cool on this bloody website, and the number of editors who get under my skin fits on one hand - those who crash around causing drama for the sake of it are at the top of my list.
- I'm not going to ask that you don't post on my talk, you're always welcome to, but I will ask that you reflect on your own behaviour before jumping on mine. I sincerely apologise if you took anything I've said to/about you as anything more than rather direct comments on your behaviour - I do not enjoy speaking of anyone in this way, but there is a limit and in my opinion you have surpassed this.
- If you believe my opinion and how I expressed it in this case is worthy of community discussion, then I would welcome a thread of drama on WP:ANI. Regardless, with a clearer mind, have a good Sunday Alex - TNT 💖 06:45, 23 September 2018 (UTC)

"Persistent disruptive editing …". No, a content dispute, with several IP editors on one side and two anonymous editors on the other, one of whom is close to, or maybe even has, exceeded 3RR. So your solution is to freeze out the IPs (this is against policy, incidentally) and hope they go away. You might like to reconsider SP'ing this article. Thanks. 5.81.164.16 (talk) 21:22, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
- All this seems pretty disruptive, and was only being caused by the non-confirmed editor(s) (Interlooper, 141.35.40.2, 46.14.94.133, 141.143.193.72, DanyelCavazos...). If other accounts decide to carry on the edit warring over the disputed content, I'll happily stick full protection on the article - TNT 💖 21:29, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – October 2018
News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2018).
- Justlettersandnumbers • L235
- Bgwhite • HorsePunchKid • J Greb • KillerChihuahua • Rami R • Winhunter
Interface administrator changes
- Cyberpower678 • Deryck Chan • Oshwah • Pharos • Ragesoss • Ritchie333
- Guerillero • NativeForeigner • Snowolf • Xeno
- Following a request for comment, the process for appointing interface administrators has been established. Currently only existing admins can request these rights, while a new RfC has begun on whether it should be available to non-admins.
- There is an open request for comment on Meta regarding the creation a new user group for global edit filter management.
- Partial blocks should be available for testing in October on the Test Wikipedia and the Beta-Cluster. This new feature allows admins to block users from editing specific pages and in the near-future, namespaces and uploading files. You can expect more updates and an invitation to help with testing once it is available.
- The Foundations' Anti-Harassment Tools team is currently looking for input on how to measure the effectiveness of blocks. This is in particular related to how they will measure the success of the aforementioned partial blocks.
- Because of a data centre test, you will be able to read but not edit the Wikimedia projects for up to an hour on 10 October. This will start at 14:00 (UTC). You might lose edits if you try to save during this time.
- The Arbitration Committee has, by motion, amended the procedure on functionary inactivity.
- The community consultation for 2018 CheckUser and Oversight appointments has concluded. Appointments will be made by October 11.
- Following a request for comment, the size of the Arbitration Committee will be decreased to 13 arbitrators, starting in 2019. Additionally, the minimum support percentage required to be appointed to a two-year term on ArbCom has been increased to 60%. ArbCom candidates who receive between 50% and 60% support will be appointed to one-year terms instead.
- Nominations for the 2018 Arbitration Committee Electoral Commission are being accepted until 12 October. These are the editors who help run the ArbCom election smoothly. If you are interested in volunteering for this role, please consider nominating yourself.

Recent changes
- The Education Program extension was removed from all Wikimedia projects. You can use the Programs and Events Dashboard or the Fountain instead. [103]
Problems
- There was a problem when you copied and pasted from a table with the visual editor. It could add

where it shouldn't be. This has now been fixed. [104]
Changes later this week
- Because of a data centre test you will be able to read but not edit the wikis for up to an hour on 10 October. This will start at 14:00 (UTC). You might lose edits if you try to save during this time. The time when you can't edit might be shorter than an hour. You can read more about this.
- Because of the data centre test there will be no new version of MediaWiki this week. Changes for this week will come next week instead.

HC Page Deletion?
I created a new company profile page HospitalCareers, and you deleted it. I made sure to include six outside references about the company, and only one to the feature on the company website. I made sure to write the page from an outside perspective as I have no connection to the company. Can you please re-upload the company page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Buckyx55 (talk • contribs)
- @Buckyx55: Hi Buckyx55, welcome to Wikipedia. I deleted the article as it was very promotional - although lots of things are notable on Wikipedia, and can be written about, they need to be written as you'd expect to find in a paper encyclopedia. This is referred to as a neutral point of view. I'll restore the page and move it to the draft space for you to work on - TNT 💖 15:13, 5 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Buckyx55: You can continue to work on your article at Draft:HospitalCareers - have a read of 'Your First Article' for some pointers - TNT 💖 15:16, 5 October 2018 (UTC)
- TNT, the first paragraph of the article is very close paraphrasing of [105]. I don't know for sure, but the rest of the article really looks like it is close paraphrasing/copying of other websites.
- Buckyx55, you cannot copy from other websites, as doing so violates copyright. Also, Articles generally require significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the topic; I don't really see that for HospitalCareers, so your first priority should be to find multiple sources that meet WP:CORPDEPTH, as no amount of editing/making a non-promotional article can overcome an issue with notability Galobtter (pingó mió) 15:35, 5 October 2018 (UTC)
- @TNT: I have edited the page to remove some of the adjectives that could be deemed as marketing after reviewing the resources you provided, thank you. :@Galobtter and Pingó mió: I rewrote the sources from an outside perspective, and did not copy them from other sites. I also utilized other job sites/company pages to emulate how they talk about the features and services, and did the same thing in similar fashion with HospitalCareers. It is difficult to talk about features and services when those features and services are on multiple reference sites without making it seem copy and paste. For instance, if you were editing an Apple page and said they sell phones, that same phrase would be listed elsewhere, but I understand what you're saying and tried to make it original. As for the reference sites, some of those references are independent as they are not partners but are recommending the service/company. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Buckyx55 (talk • contribs)
AshRae84 block
Hi TNT, you recently blocked User talk:AshRae84 (who was named Alert360 at the time). The user has changed their username and submitted an unblock request. I'm inclined to grant a ROPE unblock, conditioned upon not editing article-space pages relating to Alert 360/Central Security Group (requested edits will be permissible). Do you have any objections or other comment? Best, Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) 02:35, 13 October 2018 (UTC)

Problems
- Some pages, edits and users disappeared for a short while after the server switch. Missing content and users was fixed within a day. Some preferences and other things might take a few more days to fix. [106]
- Wikis are updated with new and updated translations from translatewiki.net again. This will happen once a week. The developers are working on fixing the problem so we can have translation updates more often again. [107]
Changes later this week
- When you create an abuse filter that prevents edits you can now write a specific error message for it. Before this all abuse filters that prevented edits had the same error message. [108]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 16 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 17 October. It will be on all wikis from 18 October (calendar).
Meetings
- There will be no more meetings with the Editing team. This is because not enough Wikimedians were interested. To tell developers which bugs you think are the most important you can use Phabricator as normal. [109]
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 17 October at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.

TWA - ?
Hey there, I noticed that you left an invite to the Wikipedia adventure on a talk page of a user followed by me (one of the people I warned for vandalism) and wanted to check with you on whether that is perhaps the best approach for dealing with what appears to be a vandalism only account? I vaguely recall conversations from quite a while ago talking about how accounts that have only been used for vandalism so far should not be invited to the TWA. What do you think? Thanks. -=Troop=- (talk) 18:30, 13 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Trooper1005: Normally I would have already blocked them as a VOA, but trying to get a 'reform' is worth a try every now and then.. I'm not holding my breath though. What are your thoughts on that? - TNT 💖 18:36, 13 October 2018 (UTC)
- Always nice to have hope for reforming someone. It'll be interesting to see the difference in results if we compared just issuing warnings (that have advice for editing in them) to issuing warnings with an invite to the TWA in them. I wish you luck but I think I'll be sticking to the vanilla warning approach for now. Best wishes. -=Troop=- (talk) 18:45, 13 October 2018 (UTC)
- I see. Unfortunately the reason I blocked them was on the presumption that this was a hoax. Under the circumstances I think I am obliged to lift the block. -Ad Orientem (talk) 21:05, 13 October 2018 (UTC)

When you get a minute...
I have a high degree of confidence that Frisian Wikipedia is a hoax and have indeffed the creating editor who apparently has a history of this sort of thing. However, out of an abundance of caution I would like an extra look from an experienced editor before I nominate for CSD mainly as there are several other linked "wikipedias" that I have never heard of. -Ad Orientem (talk) 20:40, 13 October 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.14 21 October 2018
|
Hello TheresNoTime/old, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!
- Backlog
As of 21 October 2018[update], there are 3650 unreviewed articles and the backlog now stretches back 51 days.
- Community Wishlist Proposal
- There is currently an ongoing discussion regarding the drafting of a Community Wishlist Proposal for the purpose of requesting bug fixes and missing/useful features to be added to the New Page Feed and Curation Toolbar.
- Please join the conversation as we only have until 29 October to draft this proposal!
- Project updates
- ORES predictions are now built-in to the feed. These automatically predict the class of an article as well as whether it may be spam, vandalism, or an attack page, and can be filtered by these criteria now allowing reviewers to better target articles that they prefer to review.
- There are now tools being tested to automatically detect copyright violations in the feed. This detector may not be accurate all the time, though, so it shouldn't be relied on 100% and will only start working on new revisions to pages, not older pages in the backlog.
- New scripts
- User:Enterprisey/cv-revdel.js(info) — A new script created for quickly placing {{copyvio-revdel}} on a page.

Did you know?
Since the last newsletter, the Editing Team has wrapped up most of their work on the 2017 wikitext editor and the visual diff tool. The team has begun investigating the needs of editors who use mobile devices. Their work board is available in Phabricator. Their current priorities are fixing bugs and improving mobile editing.
Recent changes
- The Editing team has published an initial report about mobile editing.
- The Editing team has begun a design study of visual editing on the mobile website. New editors have trouble doing basic tasks on a smartphone, such as adding links to Wikipedia articles. You can read the report.
- The Reading team is working on a separate mobile-based contributions project.
- The 2006 wikitext editor is no longer supported. If you used that toolbar, then you will no longer see any toolbar. You may choose another editing tool in your editing preferences, local gadgets, or beta features.
- The Editing team described the history and status of VisualEditor in this recorded public presentation (starting at 29 minutes, 30 seconds).
- The Language team released a new version of Content Translation (CX2) last month, on International Translation Day. It integrates the visual editor to support templates, tables, and images. It also produces better wikitext when the translated article is published. [114]
Let's work together
- The Editing team wants to improve visual editing on the mobile website. Please read their ideas and tell the team what you think would help editors who use the mobile site.
- The Community Wishlist Survey begins next week.
- If you aren't reading this in your preferred language, then please help us with translations! Subscribe to the Translators mailing list or contact us directly. We will notify you when the next issue is ready for translation. Thank you!

- Partial blocks is now available for testing on the Test Wikipedia. The new functionality allows you to block users from editing specific pages. Bugs may exist and can be reported on the local talk page or on Meta. A discussion regarding deployment to English Wikipedia will be started by community liaisons sometime in the near future.

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- Some old mobile browsers can use the watchlist again. This has not worked for a while. These browsers are called grade C browsers. This helps for example Windows Phone 8.1 with Internet Explorer and Lumia 535 with Windows 10. [117]
Problems
- You can choose to see edit conflicts in a two-column view. This is a beta feature. You can find it in your preferences. Users who use this view saw the edit conflict resolution page when they wanted to see a preview. This has been fixed. [118][119][120]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 13 November. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 14 November. It will be on all wikis from 15 November (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 14 November at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- You can use the content translation tool to translate articles. The developers are working on a new version. One of the changes will be a maintenance category. Articles where users add a lot of text from machine translation without changing it will be in that category. This is so the community can review it. The users will also have been warned before they publish the article that it has a lot of unchanged text from machine translations. [121]
