Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.
If you would like to learn more about rules and scoring for the 2024 WikiCup, please see this page. Hi there! Phase I of the Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review has concluded, with several impactful changes gaining community consensus and proceeding to various stages of implementation. Some proposals will be implemented in full outright; others will be discussed at phase II before being implemented; and still others will proceed on a trial basis before being brought to phase II. The following proposals have gained consensus:

- Proposal 3b (in trial): Make the first two days discussion-only
- Proposal 13 (in trial): Admin elections
- Proposal 14 (implemented): Suffrage requirements
- Proposals 16 and 16c (phase II discussion): Allow the community to initiate recall RfAs and Community recall process based on dewiki
- Proposal 17 (phase II discussion): Have named Admins/crats to monitor infractions
- Proposal 24 (phase II discussion): Provide better mentoring for becoming an admin and the RfA process
- Proposal 25 (implemented): Require nominees to be extended confirmed
See the project page for a full list of proposals and their outcomes. A huge thank-you to everyone who has participated so far :) looking forward to seeing lots of hard work become a reality in phase II. theleekycauldron (talk), via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:09, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

Leucippus
Bro your article Leucippus is the featured article of the day 48JCL 00:38, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
- So it is! I had completely forgotten that it was scheduled to be on the main page. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 04:21, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you today for the article, introduced: "Leucippus was the first person to propose that matter is made of microscopic particles called atoms. What makes this impressive is that he lived over 2,000 years before atoms were actually discovered. Of course, Leucippus's atoms were quite different from the ones we know to exist: he contended that they were totally indivisible, and that they came in infinitely many shapes and sizes. Using his concept of atoms, he developed explanations for the creation of the world and the existence of a physical soul. Despite his importance in the history of philosophy, almost all information about his life and his writings has been lost, and what we know comes from second-hand accounts. He has since been overshadowed by his more famous student, Democritus."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:57, 11 May 2024 (UTC)

"DYK shouldn't feature anything contentious or charged."
Re your comment in Wikipedia talk:Did you know that "DYK shouldn't feature anything contentious or charged. That's just not appropriate for the main page.": this seems a little tone-deaf coming from someone who not that long ago successfully (and appropriately!) nominated LGBT representation in The Simpsons for DYK. The fact that it was nominated for deletion three months later (by someone later sanctioned for problematic views on gender-related topics) should make it obvious that there are plenty of people who will consider any visibility for LGBT representation as something that is contentious and charged. I am not one of those people, of course...just pointing out that they exist. What is unremarkable or worth highlighting to you and me may well be contentious or charged to others. —David Eppstein (talk) 08:01, 27 May 2024 (UTC)

Iron Man FAC
Hey. Didn't have time to write this earlier. Sucks that the FAC wasn't allowed to continue and the article didn't pass. Irregardless, I saw that you made some edits on Iron Man's article and was wondering if you'd like me to continue my comments here? That way, when you renominate the article, I won't have all that many comments to make. PanagiotisZois (talk) 22:58, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
- PanagiotisZois I was planning on taking one more look at it then nominating it tomorrow. But if you have any thoughts, then by all means. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 23:18, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, that's great! I'm really glad to see you're keen on getting the article to FA. Since I still haven't looked over the whole article, I'm probably going to need some time to look over the final few sections. Which also means I probably will have more than just a few comments to make. So, go ahead and renominate the article, and I'll leave my initial comments then.
- PS. I hope the changes I made to the image pages are adequate for the image review. Maybe you'll want to look over them yourself and put your own touch on them for the FAC. PanagiotisZois (talk) 23:23, 13 June 2024 (UTC)

Hey, sorry for being so slow reviewing the article. I really jumped into the deep end reviewing and I thought I would be able to review all the citations as I have done for the shorter GANs I've reviewed, but I got a bit burnt out in the process. I should be done by Wednesday after I've conducted one more prose check and have finished spot-checking sources for the sections I haven't got to yet The article is on track to pass, provided you respond to the suggestions listed, but I thought I would give you an update for your and my sake. ❤HistoryTheorist❤ 04:55, 17 June 2024 (UTC)

Broad tbans
Can't say I haven't had a similar thought every now and then looking at a contribution history, but there's no way it works for good reasons or bad. My bold fantasy is to have simply locked the leads of the high-level pages (ie. those not directly related to the war but about the topic, like the country articles) when the war started. A balance between diffusing heat (emotion combined with WP:LEADFIX) while leaving the actual articles accessible. CMD (talk) 03:25, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- For sure, "strongly believe" is very different from "expect to happen" or "ready to implement". But at the same time it does feel like more can be done than we're currently doing. It's not an area I really participate in, but it spills over so frequently into AfD, RS/N, and basically everywhere else that it becomes hard to miss that certain names always end up supporting the same side in what I'm sure is a total coincidence. I get why, but it's frustrating that WP:CPUSH is so toothless. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 03:39, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- I do not tend to edit in the area that much, but it's not an isolated issue. En.wiki struggles when WP:Systematic bias aligns with the bias of the majority of editors. I would boldly posit that it struggles even more so when those biases align with the 'right' position. Then again, I suppose that is normal confirmation bias. CMD (talk) 03:45, 21 June 2024 (UTC)

They have conducted 279 featured article reviews, as well as 492 good article reviews and peer reviews, and have added 22 articles to featured topics and good topics.

Botswanan Politics
Separate to your note on my talkpage, I thought I'd congratulate you on Politics of Botswana. It joined the very small ranks of "Politics of X" GAs, and is a good model within that. I take an interest because I had what sounds like a similar experience, once completely rewriting Politics of the Philippines (which had a grand total of zero sources) due to frustration at the poor state of the main Philippines#Government and politics section. Comparing that article to yours, it is interesting to see how the very different political systems and context have shaped different articles around the same theme. A lot of variety in the world. CMD (talk) 15:06, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks! That's actually the reason I wrote it. I noticed that most of the "Politics of" articles aren't great, and I figure that once there are a few good examples, it makes the rest of them a little easier to write. I had done the same thing with 2021 in Botswana to show how a smaller country might have a good "year" article, and after working on these two, I decided to keep going on Botswana-related articles so we could actually have a sub-Saharan country with good general coverage and make it a sort of "model country" for similar articles. It's ended up becoming one of my main focuses on Wikipedia, which I certainly wouldn't have expected when I started, but I have no regrets here! Thebiguglyalien (talk) 18:29, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
- They do say Botswana is a model country. One-level-below country articles are generally quite poor, not sure we have a model anywhere, globally. As I mentioned do feel free to ping me regarding this goal, and if you ever get onto Demographics of Botswana and Culture of Botswana I'll be very curious about that progress. A thank-you for speaking the truth
Feel like a barnstar might be inappropriate here, but your remarks at AE were a better summary of my feelings on the ARBPIA area and its frequent editors than I’ve ever been able to put into words myself (see User:The Kip#Screaming into the void). Points 2 and 5 in particular are brilliantly summarized.
Most attacks/defenses at AE on the issue are based on ideological alignment rather than actual policy, and I do agree that the area as a whole would be better off if most of the editors in the AE filing were TBANned indefinitely - unfortunately, their editing records and navigation of policy/Wikilawyering makes sure that’ll never happen. The Kip (contribs) 04:10, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
- I appreciate the thought. Your "screaming into the void" sums up my thoughts as well. That last sentence is too real, just in that AE discussion alone. I see the same issues in other discussions where it's always the same few names agreeing with each other regardless of the issue—it's especially funny for example when they're diehard deletionists if the articles hurt their cause but suddenly they're stalwart inclusionists if the articles help their cause. And of course I also appreciate that there's no barnstar, because I'd feel obligated to decline it for the same reason. I wasn't sure how the post would be received, but I'm grateful to the admins so far who have replied frankly instead of just saying something to the effect of "this is unsolvable and trying to solve it is unhelpful". Thebiguglyalien (talk) 04:44, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
- And right on cue, one of the editors covered by your statement has now attacked you, claiming that your call-out of POV-ridden editing is the actual disruptive editing.
- As expected. The Kip (contribs) 04:04, 6 July 2024 (UTC)

Iron Man relaunch
Hello. I hope that my comments on the Iron Man FAC are not too annoying or cause any issues. I have a quick question for you about the future of Iron Man in the comics. Spencer Ackerman will be writing the next run for the character (according to here and here). Should that be mentioned in the Iron Man article? It may be best to wait until the issue actually comes out, but it seems like it will played as a big deal as it is a relaunch with a new armor. I did not want to distract too much from the ongoing discussions on the FAC page so I thought it may be more appropriate to raise this to your attention on your talk page instead. Best of luck with the FAC and I hope you are doing well. Aoba47 (talk) 01:58, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
- No worries at all! Additional feedback is the most valuable part of FAC in my opinion. I went ahead and added the info, and I expect to keep the article updated over time. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 02:26, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the response. I am glad that I could help when and where I can. I have a lot of respect for you for working on an article about such a well-known character, and I think you have done a wonderful job with it. Aoba47 (talk) 02:38, 21 July 2024 (UTC)

Back-calculating vote figures
Hello. Just to say, you should never calculate vote figures yourself by back-calculating them based on valid votes and percentages. Because percentages are only to a certain number of decimal places, the numbers they equate to can be quite wide ranging. For example, the 48.7% of the vote that Tabai received in 1982 could equate to anything between 9,159 and 9,177. Vote figures should only be added when we have a source with the actual number. Cheers, Number 57 00:52, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
- I meant to add a footnote saying they were approximations, but noted. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 00:58, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
- Interestingly this source puts his vote total at 9,145, which would be 48.6%, and Teannaki's at 5,365, which does match the 28.5% given in the Nohlen book. Unfortunately even with those two's vote figures, I cannot find a source with the figures for Teangana and Ratieta... Number 57 01:23, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
