Scholarships.com

Hello and Good Morning, I would like to understand why this page was deleted. It was nominated for "speedy deletion" by another admin and contested. I asked for guidance to edit and edify the article to meet Wikipedia's standards. Scholarships.com is an entity and has been referenced in hundreds of articles. Everything in the entry was properly supported. What am I missing? I would appreciate any guidance you can offer so that I will be successful in creating and editing articles in Wikipedia. Deletion of Old Thorntonians F.C. yesterday.

Good morning, Firstly I would like to apologise for entering incorrect information to Wikipedia, I obviously did not understand the criteria for being allowed a page.

Is there any way I can edit the page to allow it to be published? The club is a descendant of Sir Henry Thornton school, which was an elite grammar school in Clapham, London that was used as an emergency hospital during WW2 and as such was bombed, and our football club remained going strong keeping the name and memory of this school alive for years to come. Does this not count as a significant importance?

Why do you insist on deleting a simple profile page of Edwin Mike Kaprat III who was died in 1995 ? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edwin_%22Mike%22_Kaprat) You did not even read my protest. Hello. Thanks for your improvements to the article. I think someone complained at FAR that the article omitted the scholarly criticism, which I've been meaning to add. To be honest, I don't think I can be bothered with the FA process. It's a lot of work for little gain (including for the reader), especially when the regulars struggle to offer constructive criticism in the spirit of collaboration. I gave up on FAC when a reviewer on my last FAC criticised (in the most condescending way possible) grammatical errors that he had introduced! MSU Interview

Dear The JPS,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

• Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
• Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
• All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
• All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
• The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. Thanks for your message on my talk page. Your edit this evening broke another reference. References can be named, such as, so that you can save space and memory if using the same references elsewhere in the article. But, if you delete the defining reference, any subsequent has nothing to refer back to, so will give an ugly red error message. The answer is to check if a named reference is used elsewhere before removing it; if you choose to remove it, then you'll need to find the (the 'find' tool is your friend here) and reinsert the full reference. I think a bot fixes these automatically these days, though. On another note, we need to work on the Themes section. So far we only have one source from a rather amateurish online 'magazine' which has no assertion of notability. There will be plenty of respectable sources out there; Peter Cowie's book, etc. The JPStalk to me 20:10, 5 March 2012 (UTC) But you've done exactly the same thing again! The JPStalk to me 11:17, 6 March 2012 (UTC) I agree that a variety of references are helpful. As a compromise, I have removed the Rosenblum one from that claim, keeping Baxter and NYT (although the NYT is a respectable source, book sources generally have more prestige). The reference currently named "Annie" covered a range of pages -- these should be sorted so that the specific page numbers are used. But, I really think we need to develop the 'themes' section, as it doesn't look very good to ignore a range of established scholars in favour of a non-established website. On Themes.... I have worked on this before and I was somewhat surprised, especially given the film's age, to find little said. One problem is that Allen's themes are more often taken up than the themes of a particular film; that doesn't work so well for us, unfortunately. In response to the above message: my concern is not so much the content dispute at The Secret in Their Eyes, but the multiple reverts and rhetoric. You manage to employ this combative rhetoric several times within such a short post above: "perhaps it is difficult for you..."; "a skill you should work on"; "you just got it wrong"; "you can probably do better if you really work at it". Hi. Not wishing to wheel-war, I am requesting reconsideration of a speedy deletion you made. You speedy deleted 1983 America's Cup: The End of an Era as a newly created implausible redirect. Actually, this was not exactly a newly created typo. An article had existed under that name for nearly a year; a few hours ago I merged it and redirected the title. It was a long article; there may be some content in the article history that I didn't pick up and would be of use to somebody. Additionally, the title isn't altogether implausible. Dear The JPS,

First I will say that I am sorry if I don't write at the right place.. Please redirect me if so..

Second, I would like to discuss the fact that the sucu sucu (song) article I wrote has been deleted yesterday. I want to protest because it has been sung by different artists in 14 different countries. You rejected my article because there were no notable artists who sing it but that is not true:

Laurie Johnson has a Wikipedia article in 4 different languages and has done the theme of the series “top secret” from the sucu sucu song. The english wikipedia article EVEN talk about the sucu sucu song that made her enter the UK charts...

Brita Koivunen has a Wikipedia article in 5 different languages and is sold on Amazon and musicme.

Alberto Cortez has a Wikipedia article in 4 different languages. He is sold on every music website and has millions hits on YouTube.

Maria Zamora’s music is sold on amazon.com and has a place on imdb.com

Tarateno Rojas has 1 wikipedia article and 1 imdb.com article. He is also on allmusic.com

Los Matecoco are sold on I-tunes, Amazon and many other websites

Bob Azzam has a Wikipedia article in 8 different languages and is sold on musicme, Amazon. He is also present on Deezer.

And all the artists I have named without exception are present on discogs.com... I admit that my article wasn’t very well presented and didn’t have many references.. But I can improve it. ANd I am sure that it deserves to be on wikipedia. I am only starting writing articles on Wikipedia in 3 different languages until now.. Thank you for your help!

Article restoration

Could you please consider restoring Rhihole Gbinigie? The speedy deletion was invalid as the person who tagged it 1) was not the original author and 2) even if they had been there were substantial edits by other editors. Martin Bros. Dist Article

Just wondering what it's going to take to not have this article be deleted. There was copy and pasted information from Martin Bros. website but that was just a starting point for me to customize and create my own words and story for them. Can this page please be restored so I can continue working on it? What steps should I take to prevent this from happening again? More links and citations to the facts that I'm referencing? Request to Restore Speedy deletion "El Pussycat ska" for its continued political and historical significance in the British music industry

This page should not be speedily deleted because this musical group has historical significance relating to the British 2-Tone era and currently is an influential ska jazz fusion group that combines early American RnR/jazz with the Fathers of Ska, and early Jamaican music. (See [[1]])

The band was formed by the saxophonist from the Specials () and has performed on The Tonight Show and toured globally several times. Mr. Stansall has over two decades of experience playing with the Fathers of ska and continues to actively record, interview and recite the history of early Jamaican music and its relation to American and British punk, reggae and rocksteady musical genres. The Speedy Deletion Policy would prematurely wipe out the already sparse information that is available to hardcore ska fans that enjoy music in the vein of Tommy McCook, Rolando Alphonso and Jackie Mittoo, which this band has played shows with.

Please reconsider the restoration of this article so that this author may add references and add to the wealth of information that this Jamaican Jazz group of historical significance has to offer. The violence and crime in the U.K. as well as here in the U.S. are related to each country and it's music, art and political message. Request to Restore Speedy deletion "Austin goh" for its relevance to current wing chun lineages and living instructors of the traditional branches of the practise

Please restore article 'Austin Goh', the significance of traditional chinese martial arts and lineages including major international instructors is surely relevant? Everybody knows Bruce Lee because he was primarily an actor and main public figure, but of the remaining Grandmasters of Wing Chun, they do not care for fame and hence there are fewer references to such people. Sorry for not meeting your criteria, as I say it's difficult with the traditional Chinese martial artists. He appeared in July 1999 Combat magazine Vol 25, Num 7 http://ma-mags.com/srchmag.php?SrchFor=Austin%20Goh&SrchHow=all&Search=search amongst others listed on that page. If this is insufficient then I fail to find sufficient proof for you of his existence, notoriety and clear links to the Wing Chun article already within Wikipedia. (edit conflict) Hi JPS. I came across this after responding to a helpdesk request from Kittensfoot. Some possible independent sources that could vouch for notability are this piece from Utusan Online (in Malay, but meets WP:RS and constitutes significant coverage), Peter Lewis' Way to the Martial Arts, Exeter Publications 1988 (no online version, I'm afraid, but uses Goh extensively as an example in the section on Wing Chun) and the episode of TV show "Just Amazing" on which he was featured in 1983 (which, sadly, I can't find online either). That said, although fairly well-known in MA circles in the UK, he's still pretty borderline in terms of Wiki-notability. To save time and effort (since Kittensfoot seems determined to go through Deletion Review), it might be worth restoring the article and putting it through AfD. Your call, though. An internet friend has expressed sorrow at deletion of what he regards as an historic article. I should say he isn't an editor but has contributed some useful professional quality photos. As I'm interested (I think) in the subject, I'd like to see what can be done to revive it, typically by providing reliable sources, including those possibly not yet in the public domain. Hello. Your Article for Creation was deleted because it was highlighted as a copyright violation. Much of it appeared to have been directly copied from a website. Fom your user name, it may be the case that you are the author of that material and are willing to donate the material. However, Wikipedia has no way of knowing that, and we do take copyright violations very seriously to protect the original work. It would be best to start a new AFC using new words. Requesting image undeletion

File:Jerry Lewis and family - 1956.jpg was speedily deleted for incorrect reasons. I would have replied on the image page, but it was deleted too quickly to respond. I assume the reason was as the original tagger stated, "clearly invalid licensing tag." However, that is obviously not the case for this type of image for many reasons:

A posed photo of a well-known celebrity is typically done for publicity, as explained in film still. Such publicity-type photos were also typically given out to the media, either in press kits or directly. The photo was the subject of sourced commentary. And at worst, as the F7 rules provide, a Subst:dfu could have been more properly added to allow for a more detailed Non-free fair use rationale. Who should be spoken to is the WP community that if you want to bully and insult people then it best be done elsewhere. This has never been an issue about "personal attacks" toward Ring Cinema's but that person's strategy in developing articles. Years ago when I found my hair cutter, a college educated professional from the Shah's Iran that when she came to the US via two other countries she did not speak English. For some reason she started asking me about sayings that her customers would chat to her about. We both would get a laugh out of she learning the naughty ones her American customers would say and she would tell me the equivalents in Persian. But, it does not take much to understand that someone played the wrong card(s). When the pot has gone to the winning hand you very well cannot take back your bid in order to change the outcome. And, remember that they do say that the loudest statement of fact can be the silence that follows a faux pas. Hi @The JPS:, thanks for CSD'ing GEK Terna, but would you please un-SALT it so I can finally move GEK Terna Holding Real Estate Construction S.A there? Another user had moved the page back and forth and all around. In order to revert it to the original state which complies with WP:NCCORP, I filed a CSD, but accidentally moved another redirect to that place instead of the original article with the full page history. Extended confirmed protection

Hello, The JPS. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

• Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
• A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

A new user right for New Page Patrollers

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However,due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. Judy Wicks undeletion

Greetings, the Wikipedia:Deletion Review page says to discuss things with the editor before posting, so here I am. I believe I started the Judy Wicks article and did so by grabbing quotes from related wikipedia pages like the Richard Hayne article, the Urban Outfitters and any other related articles Free People and White Dog Cafe (I'm not sure if ALL the articles I would pull from today existed at the time of article creation.) I also added things I knew about like her participation in SBN and BALLE. I barely remember the article being much more than a list of things she had done and a few bits from other wikipedia articles when I first started it. Years and years later I only noticed it had been speedily deleted for alleged copyright violations years earlier. I don't remember any copyright violations, but if I had grabbed stuff from her bio like a simple list of awards or affiliations or something, I believe it would have been only a basic list which as far as I know would not be protectable by copyright in this form re: Wikipedia:Copyright in lists with the goal of eventually filling out more details. However, since I can't currently see the page as it was before deletion I can't confirm what it looked like or who or how it had been edited after I created it. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Why have I received this message? All administrators are receiving it. What prompted you to send this message? Recently, several Wikipedia admin accounts were compromised. The admin accounts were desysopped on an emergency basis. In the past, the Committee often resysopped admin accounts as a matter of course once the admin was back in control of their account. The committee has updated its guidelines. Admins may now be required to undergo a fresh Request for Adminship (RfA) after losing control of their account. What do I need to do? Only to follow the instructions in this message. Check that your password is unique (not reused across sites). Check that your password is strong (not simple or guessable). Enable Two-factor authentication (2FA), if you can, to create a second hurdle for attackers. How can I find out more about two-factor authentication (2FA)? You can find out more about 2FA at m:2FA.

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
