Orphaned non-free media (Image:Midfield2.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Midfield2.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:17, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Colts Coaching Template

[edit]

I see that you undid my edit to the Colts coaches template, making the second instance of a coach's name unlinked. This is inconsistent with the way the situation is handled in other coaching templates. See for example Lou Saban in the Bills coaches template or Joe Gibbs in the |Redskins coaches template.

I have been working on reviewing the pages for all NFL coaches throughout history, and if you think that your style makes more sense, let me know and I'll change the other templates to conform. Otherwise I'll change this back. Anson2995 (talk) 14:09, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For all your work on updating Indiana articles after the 2008 elections (A big task!), I award you this barnstar! Cheers! Charles Edward 20:13, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, HoosierState! I noticed that you recently started expanding this article. I did wonder, though, why you reversed the chronology of the table. I started about 54 of the 57 articles in this series, and originally they were all in a reverse-chronological order. However, after consulting with a few other editors and after lots and lots of trial and error, I realized that it was a lot easier to expand these tables when they're in forward-chronological order (as in the current year being at the bottom of the table and the oldest year at the top), so I bit the bullet and started reordering all the tables to forward-chronological order (so far having made it from Alabama through South Dakota as of this writing). I'm not trying to exert ownership of the articles or anything, but I can tell you from the many hours I have spent on this series of articles that the previous format was much easier to edit, for me at least. Qqqqqq (talk) 06:21, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, that's funny - California was the only state of the bunch (up through South Dakota) I hadn't yet reversed, since it was proving to be such a huge pain but mostly because it was nearly complete as-is. Yeah, it doesn't make much sense as to why a different order of the rows of the table would affect ease of editing, but I've found that it does when we don't have information for a particular office or political body and have to leave a table cell or cells blank until we can find that data. I's something of a phenomenon with the wikicoding. I'd really like to expand these articles; the data is either quite easy to find, in the case of governors, for example, but rather difficult for state legislatures in particular. Do you have any ideas on data sources for the Indiana Legislature and for, say, past superintendents of public instruction? Qqqqqq (talk) 06:41, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, yeah, splitting the years is a huge pain as well. I hate resignations and deaths of officeholders! I'm not good at explaining wikicoding, but basically what you would do is enter the year designation row as rowspan=2|2003, rather than simply 2003, and then on the second row (for 2003), after the |- separating the rows, don't enter a year. Having a year span two rows does mean, though, that all other officeholders whose tenure spanned the entire year must have their rowspans increased by one each. If you're looking for an example of the syntax for a split year, check the 1988 row on Political party strength in Arizona. I can certainly try to do a better job of explaining, though. Qqqqqq (talk) 06:48, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ha, no, I should have looked at the article history first. Didn't realize you were at work on the article! Qqqqqq (talk) 03:58, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, the splitting is tricky, and it took me a long while to figure it out myself. But that plan sounds good—whenever you want me to split a row, I'll come in and do it. :) Qqqqqq (talk) 19:51, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I'll look into 2003 and 1944 now. Qqqqqq (talk) 20:08, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, all set, I think. Qqqqqq (talk) 20:27, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Great - I'm glad you're getting it! But I can still help any time you have trouble. Which thick gray line? I don't get that on my display, but my guess is that if you're seeing it, it's because we don't have some cells filled in, and when those empty cells are really short as in the case of rapid changes in officeholders in another column for that row, multiple successive rows wind up looking compressed, forming a thick line. I'm not explaining it all that well, though. These issues should go away as the chart gets more filled-in. Qqqqqq (talk) 20:54, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, let me see if I get it. I'll let you know. :) Qqqqqq (talk) 21:41, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I think I got it. Let me know if that's not what you had in mind. Qqqqqq (talk) 21:48, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. That's about the best we can do as far as the code goes, without getting crazy and doing something like giving one officeholder 7/12 of a year and the other 5/12, since I don't think that would display precisely anyway. But I do know what you mean about not being able to tell that a box extends past a year. I think it varies by monitor - on my wide-screen Mac I can see subtleties in the spacing of these charts I don't see on my square-screen PC, and vice-versa. But I think that what's happening here is that when one cell is nearly full of text (as in the case of Mr. Robinson here, or most any time a tenure is relatively short), that cell reaches its minimum height and can be compacted no more, so it seems to take up more of the split year than it otherwise should. That's happened lots of times across these articles - I work hard to split a year, and in the case of a really short tenure following a really long tenure, you can't tell that the row was split at all. In Indiana 1942, I can see that Robinson's box is slightly shorter than the 1942 box, at least. Qqqqqq (talk) 21:58, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wow! Nice work! Qqqqqq (talk) 20:58, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Superintendant og Pulic Instruction

[edit]

Hi Hoosier! I was wondering if you had an online list of the the Superintendents of Public Instruction from the state library. I have a book source for 1852 through 1983. I was going to create a list for that. Thanks. Charles Edward (Talk) 03:10, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

First one on my list is William C. Larrabee followed by Caleb Mills, WIlliam C. Larrabee, then Samuel L. Rugg... etc Charles Edward (Talk) 03:37, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
First one was on 1852, probably was a new position created by the 1851 consitution. Charles Edward (Talk) 03:37, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

James Morrison

[edit]

I think I figured it out.. I have been looking at it to try and figure out what party he was - He could not have been republican because the republican party was not created until 1854. I am thinking it must be National Republican Party. What do you think? My book puts him as Republican also - I am trying to figure out how that is possible. He is definatly not a GOP Republican, there was not even an idea of that in the 1820s. Charles Edward (Talk) 03:06, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There must be some way to confirm that. I will dig around. Charles Edward (Talk) 03:12, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Alright. Here is what I found.
 • This book [1] indicates that Morrison became a judge after being secretary of state. This book [2] indicates he was elected around 1833 and ran as a Democrat.
 • This book [3] says he was a member of the Colonization Society, so he was anti-slavery.
 • This book mentions he was in opposition to the whigs [4], so he was not a Whig.
 • He was a signer of the 1851 constitution.

I am thinking he is either Democrat of National Republican Party which I think is the same as the Adams Party. There is not way he could be Republican Party. Charles Edward (Talk) 03:34, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah it kinda looks like a guess. I will leave it up to you. :) Charles Edward (Talk) 03:42, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Starr and Cole

[edit]

Like any other article on any topic, an editor cannot make statements — true or not — without referencing a source. I have no doubt that these fan sites exist, but you are trying to assert come kind of popularity or notability for these characters based on information that cannot be supported in any tangible way. Further, I don't find the info to really contribute to the article in any meaningful way; just about every actor on every TV show or film has a fansite or message board/forum dedicated to them. The fact that message board/forum posts are not acceptable references in and of themselves stems from the fact that anyone can write anything without having to back it up, and I could create a fansite for myself and manufacture an entire community. I am of course aware that these characters are popular and have a following, but it is not notable or appropriate for inclusion in Wikipedia if it has not been noted in a magazine or respectable website. This is basic WP policy.— TAnthonyTalk 14:47, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:IndyCCC.png

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:IndyCCC.png. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add , without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
 2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Mosmof (talk) 16:39, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your image uploads

Hi, I've noticed that most, if not all, photographs you have uploaded to Wikipedia, are copyrighted to someone other than you. I'm not sure why you've tagged these images with PD-self, but please don't do this any more (and this includes derivative works of other Wikipedia images, like File:OneAmericaTower.jpg). I don't know if any of your uploads are actually your own work, but claiming PD-self on all photographs makes it impossible to know what is and is not yours. Proposed deletion of Jeff Cardwell

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Jeff Cardwell, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

A search for references failed to find significant coverage in reliable sources to comply with notability requirements. This included web searches for news coverage, books, and journals, which can be seen from the following links:

Jeff Cardwell – news, books, scholar Consequently, this article is about a subject that appears to lack sufficient notability.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. — Satori Son 00:06, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! In regards to: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Hendricks_County,_Indiana&diff=340873414&oldid=340860712

The problem with the "WP:INDP is confined to Marion County or a nearby notable place associated w/ Indy)" rationale is that everything in the U.S. government-defined Indianapolis MSA is associated with Indianapolis. The government-defined boundary chronicles the extent of the influence on the Indianapolis area. If you have noticed the WikiProjects related to Chicago and Philadelphia, everything in their respective MSAs is within the scope of these projects, as it should be. [edit]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Bob Cockrum. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bob Cockrum. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:08, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. The Rambling Man (talk) 16:26, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pre-2008 Marion county (IN) precinct map

You've uploaded a map with the results of 2007 mayoral elections in Indianapolis. I am trying to find a map of pre-2008 Marion county precincts or any other way to infer the correspondence between pre-2008 and post-2008 precincts and didn't succeed with it. Can you please share the source of that map? Or maybe you know any other way to learn the geogarphical positions of pre-2008 precincts (by name) or the correspondence of the old and the new precincts? Any help is greatly appreciated. 2011–12 Indiana Hoosiers men's basketball team

[edit]

I want to shoot you a message to let you know that 2011–12 Indiana Hoosiers men's basketball team is being moved back to its original location using an endash, rather than the figure dash you moved it from or the emdash which you used. Endashes are used for date ranges, such as 2011–12. Although this causes some difficulties since people can't just push a key on their keyboard to make an endash, it's the accepted format. 2019 US Banknote Contest

[edit]
US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

Custom signature fix needed

[edit]

Hi there! You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. A change to Wikipedia's software has made your current custom signature incompatible with the software.

The problem: Your signature contains a syntax error, specifically formatting tags that are in the wrong order.

The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, or you can fix your signature.

Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:
 1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
 2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
 3. Remove anything in the Signature: text box.
 4. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (The red "Restore all default settings" button will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)
Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:
 1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
 2. Change the signature as shown below, or make other edits to make the signature appear how you want it to appear.
 3. Click Save to update to your newly fixed signature.

Current signature:
<font face="Tahoma"><span style="color:#003366;">HoosierState</span></font><font face="Tahoma"><span style="color:#003366;">Talk</span></font>

Fixed signature:
<span style="color:#003366; font-family:'Tahoma';">HoosierState</span><span style="color:#003366; font-family:'Tahoma';">Talk</span>

More information is available at Wikipedia:Signatures#Customizing how everyone sees your signature. If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:05, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
