Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Villages in Pryluky
[edit]A tag has been placed on Category:Villages in Pryluky indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read! - Hi Liz, thank you for this information. I agree that it should be deleted, because I created the page with a typo (my apologies). I have immediately created another with the correct title, and placed all the appropriate pages into this new category instead of the old one. Thanks again. Bilka, Sumy Oblast moved to draftspace

Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:

Empty categories
[edit]Hello, TeddyRoosevelt1912,
There are a lot of categories I believe you created that showed up on tonight's, Empty Categories list. Ordinarily, they would be tagged CSD C1 speedy deletion as empty categories. Do you expect these categories to be empty for long? I'm not going to tag the categories tonight if they will just need to be untagged tomorrow. In general, we discourage editors from mass-creating categories before they are needed just to avoid problems like this. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 01:07, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Liz,I apologize if these categories have caused much disruption for you, as the creation of many empty categories is simply because it is a part of my editing process, as I find this method more efficient than creating each category separately at different times. I do not expect these categories to remain empty for long, and they will be filled eventually in the next few days (preferably tomorrow if my schedule allows), so there is no need to tag them for deletion. Thank you for notifying me about this, and I will avoid creating many temporarily-empty categories when I edit categories in the future. TeddyRoosevelt1912 (talk) 03:02, 23 October 2022 (UTC)

You did somethig wrong. Do you continue working on it? - Altenmann >talk 02:24, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for the message. I know it is not quite the right way to craft this template, but I am trying to place both the de facto subdivisions (Russian one up top) with the de jure subdivisions (Ukrainian one at bottom), so that readers may be able to see both simultaneously. If this setup is not acceptable, I can simply create a new page and separate the two. TeddyRoosevelt1912 (talk) 13:30, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
- The issue is not with two-in-one template. You created a huge empty space with raions in the second table. You have to list them in the same way as in the old template. - Altenmann >talk 17:22, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
- Oh that's an easy fix, these spaces are reserved for the listing of hromadas that are yet to be decided by the Verkhovna Rada based on a recently-passed law. They are not meant to be permanent, and will be filled in once the hromadas are announced. TeddyRoosevelt1912 (talk) 17:30, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
- That's what I thought. But now it looks ugly. For now you can temporarily comment out the "empty" groups:

<!-- |group1 = [[Bakhchysarai Raion]] |list1 =
- ...
|group10 = [[Yalta Raion]] |list10 = --> and copy the group or raions from the upper template. Please keep in mind that numbering of groups does not matter for display. - Altenmann >talk 17:51, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
- That's a good way to go about it, I've already done the editing. Thanks! TeddyRoosevelt1912 (talk) 18:31, 17 October 2023 (UTC)

Pripyat (river) map
[edit]Hi, I am wandering where did you get the map you added: added wikidata map. - Altenmann >talk 21:53, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, the map is actually already in the wikidata page, I only added the Template:Infobox mapframe that showed the map. The maps are usually from OpenStreet Map, and you can see an OpenStreetMap relation ID (P402) in the wikidata pages, which is where the map is actually from. TeddyRoosevelt1912 (talk) 22:35, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- I was asking because the map I saw in "locator map image" in [1]] is just an image. Now, a follow-up question: how did you figure out |zoom=5 |height=250 params? - Altenmann >talk 22:48, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- Those params are just for the visual, and are adjustments that I found to be the most natural for those reading, they don't influence the actual data at all TeddyRoosevelt1912 (talk) 22:57, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- Are these typical/common values, or one has to adjust them for every map separately? - Altenmann >talk 23:29, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- I typically keep the height the same, but the zoom would have to depend on the length of the river, so that it would be just right on the screen (most commonly between 5-8) TeddyRoosevelt1912 (talk) 23:40, 29 July 2024 (UTC)

Need more help : I created Likteņdārzs and found it in OpenStreet. Now, where do I get OpenStreetMap relation ID (P402)? - Altenmann >talk 06:29, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
- Ok, once you found the relation ID on OpenStreet, you can just add it onto the wikidata page as a new identifier. Make sure the wikidata code is also linked inside the OpenStreet relation (this requires an account in OpenStreet also), and the map should show soon after you add the template (it could take a couple days for the data to update) TeddyRoosevelt1912 (talk) 16:18, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
- I looked at the monument you created, and I only found ones that were "way" and not "relation", which could still be put on wikidata (OpenStreetMap way ID (P10689), but wouldn't help the Template:Infobox mapframe on the wikipedia page. So, you would have to create a separate relation on OSM just with the object, get the new ID, and then add it onto wikidata and go from there.
- This is why I only usually create OpenStreet relations for rivers/canals/roads, because they are really hard to see without the interactive maps; for most singlular locations like monument, I would just add a coordinate, put it on a pushpin map, and call it a day. Of course, it is always up to the editor how to incorporate the maps, so I would be more than happy to help you get the map if it helps you understand how this works. TeddyRoosevelt1912 (talk) 16:29, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
- You are right, pushpin is enough here: the object is well-localized by its geography. Thanks. - Altenmann >talk 16:52, 31 July 2024 (UTC)
Two of the maps you just added aren't working, and just show blue. I reverted McClellan–Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System. You may want to test the others. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 21:03, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi thanks for letting me know, these maps are usually ok, and just take some time for the data to update. I've looked into them and fixed them accordingly. TeddyRoosevelt1912 (talk) 00:04, 23 September 2024 (UTC)

Retroactive attribution may be added using a dummy edit; see Repairing insufficient attribution. It is good practice, especially if translation is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{translated page}} template on the talk page of the destination article. If you have added translated content previously which was not attributed at the time it was added, you must add attribution retrospectively, even if it was a long time ago. You can read more about author attribution and the reasons for it at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you.
- I've added the attribution in this case, regards Atlantic306 (talk) 20:50, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for letting me know, I was not aware of this before, I will keep this in mind afterwards. However, I looked over to the page history and found your edit, but all I saw was a deleted empty row, neither could I find it within the page, so I'm confused as to what I'm supposed to do going forward? - It's the edit summary that is important. I did a dummy edit in order to add the edit summary, regards Atlantic306 (talk) 19:29, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
