I have been informed that you are the OTRS agent handling this case. A medcab case on this subject was filed back in November 2007. Can you find me the ticket number so I can look more closely? I remember this particular case, and I agree, the filing of mediation was inappropriate. As I remember, the whole purpose of the mediation was because one of the parties was unsatisfied that they couldn't know the context of the OTRS tickets related to the article. I viewed that as an abuse of mediation, as there was nothing to mediate in this particular case. Again, if you could find the ticket number, I'd be able to locate the ticket in question (I do remember it was in the legal queue, so a simple OTRS search wouldn't show the information; if you can find me the ticket number I can dig through the legal queue's archives and find it.). 21:02, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

See WP:Undue weight, which is a policy. It's that a single solitary journalist terming a band something is worth noting somewhere in the page, but to include it in the infobox is lending it too much weight. I am not violating policies, and your point about allmusic represents a basic cause-and-effect misunderstanding: it is not my dislike of allmusic that is causing me to work against their abberations, but rather their abberations that lead to that opinion. It's not about the validity of the source: it's about the validity of the genre given by the source, because it's so outweighed. The undue weight policy states that "minority views should not be given undue weight". The view that they are alt. metal and post-grunge is in the minority, quite firmly. That's your interpretation that it is a minority view. The evidence suggests to the contrary. Not to mention, even if it is, you are trying to eliminate any reference to it. Undue weight in that circumstance means that you have an entire page written on a minority topic; it does not mean that a single reference or two are "undue." Undue weight is also not to be used to advance your point of view; not to mention it does not excuse your rampant edit warring on the page. My edits and use of policy are perfectly accurate, and in the majority of cases the edits I'm making do not require consensus: they're simply upholding the rules. Only in a few cases are they potentially controversial.

I don't see how you can interpret it as anything but a minority view. Indeed, there's no element of interpretation in it: it's a view, and it's firmly in the minority (nu metal has 4 sources, hard rock has three). Likewise, as I have said, if you want to include the mention of alt. metal and post-grunge in a styles and influences section, then you're more than welcome: many bands have a lot of genres assigned to them by a single journalist, and this are mentioned in such a section rather than crammed into the genre field of the infobox. The infobox is there to sum up the consensus of the sources on the matter. The policy simply states that a minority view should not be given undue weight. And that's exactly what I'm enforcing. Yes, it does synch up with my POV, but the POV is not the root of it, and as such there is nothing wrong in that. There's nothing wrong with people making edits that happen to fit in with their POV. Posting from my phone: I am not in any dispute with the user. I noticed this user edit warring very close to the 3rr. I checked the contribs and saw this user has been massively disrupting music articles against consensus by changing band genres without discussion on dozens of articles citing incorrect and inapplicable policies, and on top of that has been blocked 3 times prior for precisely that behavior. "No Legal Threats" Edit

By the "comment on the talk page", I meant the comment (actually, two comments) I posted on the article discussion page, not my personal talk page. As it stands, the article is ambiguous about what legal actions are covered. At first, I interpreted it broadly, and commented that it is unreasonably broad. For example, if someone were to post your credit card number on Wikipedia and you were to sue that person, it does not make sense to block you until the lawsuit (or criminal prosecution) is resolved. But then, after reading the discussions, I saw that all examples of legal threats are disputes about content that is presently in Wikipedia or may be added to Wikipedia in the future, and I understood that this is what the community meant by legal threats. The suggestion to use Wikipedia Dispute Resolution instead of legal action also confirms that intent. My edit represents my understanding of the policy and is not intended to be a change of policy. It reflects a significant change in policy that was not discussed. If I sue someone for their actions based on Wikipedia, even after whatever the on-wikipedia action was is nullified (i.e. page deleted, edits oversighted, user blocked, whatever), my actions in the lawsuit are still creating a chilling effect for editors; my being allowed to edit puts others at risk based on my behavior. That chilling effect is one reason that we've interpreted the NLT policy to block most persons involved in litigation or threats involving Wikipedia. ⇒SWATJester ^{Son of the Defender} 14:19, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

• Union-free is a statement of fact, and union busting is a commonly used term.

• This was an unfortunate side effect, however the link was duplicated already in the sources and as such unnecessary.

I'll stay out of it then. There was no need to link the Facebook groups to demonstrate they exist, when the secondary source I added acknowledged their existence. The unsourced information was quite detailed, and there was no reason to think it was fictional, as opposed to just unsourced (or, more accurately, self-sourced with a missing footnote). When it's not a BLP issue, my personal preference is to have the fact tag act as a notice that there's an issue, rather than a call to immediately delete material. Otherwise, why have a fact tag at all? I do want to repeat my complaint about the characterization of my edits as "whitewashing"--I more cleanly cited negative material. My apologies on the whitewashing comment. I looked over it again, and I misread what you were doing. As for fact tags, sometimes I wonder why they exist. I think they're for stuff that probably *could* be cited, but isn't; in this case it seems very difficult to get an accurate cite for the exact numbers. The problem is doing so without revealing confidential information from the OTRS ticket. The best way is typically to edit as normal until an OTRS agent points out that something is conflicting with the ticket. List of individual weapons of the U.S. Armed Forces

Ok this dispute is extremely old but what the hell. I have added M249 to the list of individual weapons, in addition to the BAR, as it was specifically designed as an individual weapon, and has been used as one since it entered service. The USMC has an assistant gunner follow the M249 marine around, but that's not necessary, it just increases awareness and ammo capacity. They also use it individually a lot of the time too. The Army use it purely as an individual weapon, with no assistant gunner.--Patton^t/c 18:59, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Except, it's not an individual weapon. It is a CREWSERVED weapon, that usually is only operated by one person. And as mentioned, the USMC operates it as a crew served weapon. Therefore it does not belong there. ⇒SWATJester ^{Son of the Defender} 20:25, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Do you have any sources that it's crewserved? I wrote M249 which is currently on FAC, it's an individual weapon, was designed as one, look through all of the references listed there, none say anyhting about it being crew served, most of them state specifically that it is and was designed as an individual weapon. The BAR is definetly an individual weapon, there's absolutly no way it could concievable be operated by more than one person because of it's nature. Here are some extracts:

The Army decided that an individual machine gun, lighter than the M60 but with more firepower than the M16, would be advantageous; troops no longer would have to rely on rifles for automatic fire. (About the M249: Bonds, Ray; Miller, David (2002). The Illustrated Directory of Modern American Weapons. Zenith Imprint. ISBN 0760313466)

The Browning automatic rifle, which had been the army's main individual machine gun since its introduction in World War I, was phased out in the 1950s, as the M14 was scheduled to replace it. (About the BAR:Jones, Colonel Charles A. (December 12, 2005). "Phased out in 1960s, M14 was ‘very reliable’". The Lore of the Corps.)

It is employed at squad level and is operated by a single designated automatic rifleman. (About the M249: U.S. Army. FM 7-8: Infantry Rifle Platoon and Squad.)

BAR was not removed. IAR was removed, because it is not yet in service. M249 is a crew-served weapon; it is purchased that way by Office of the Product Manager, Crew Served Weapons, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ. See [1], stating "Department of the Army U. S. Army Materiel Command US Army, Army Contracting Command, Joint Munitions and Lethality (JM&L) Contracting Center The U.S. Army Joint Munitions and Lethality Contracting Center, PicatinnyArsenal, NJ, on behalf of PM Crew Served Weapons has a requirement for thefabrication and delivery of 5.56MM M249 Squad Automatic Weapons, to theGovernment Technical Data Package (TDP) Part Number 9348199)." In addition, though this is obviously not citable on Wikipedia, I was a M249 SAW gunner for several years. I can assure you that the U.S. Army considers it to be a crew-served weapon, even if it is operated by an individual soldier, the same way that the M24 SWS and the M107/SASR/M82 are operated by a single individual yet considered crew-served weapons. ⇒SWATJester ^{Son of the Defender} 04:24, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

I could go on further but I think the point is clear, the M249 is a crew-served weapon (technically) designed to be operated by either one OR two individuals. As for the BAR, I dont know what that's all about, cause I didn't remove that. You removed the M249 BAR and SR-25 Please manually remove in future. The M249 was designed specifically to be an individual weapon, taht was the whole point of creating it and not just using M249s. The fact that it is crewed sometimes doesn't make it a solely crew served weapon. I have a compromise: We add the M249 to both the individual and crew served lists and add a note explaining when it's used crewed and when it's used individually and by whom.--Patton^t/c 16:54, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

And you reinserted IAR, which did not belong there; nor did SR-25 which like all sniper weapons systems in the U.S. military is crew-served. Please also be more careful in the future. The M249 was NOT designed specifically to be an individual weapon; that is the whole purpose of having an assistant gunner for it, that is why it is purchased by the office of the purchasing manager for CREW SERVED WEAPONS, and that is why it is referred to internally AND externally as a crew-served weapon. You are seriously confusing the amount of people that operate a weapon with individual/crew served status. Just because one person operates a weapon does not classify it as "individual". A weapon system can still be crew-served if it is assigned to a single individual because it has the capability and design to allow for a second person to assist in the operation. You mean this? Apparently it is reffered to as crew served, yes. There's also M249 LIGHT MACHINE GUN IN THE AUTOMATIC RIFLE ROLE—INFANTRY RIFLE PLATOON AND SQUAD contains this appendix, with this image—i.e. it's operated by one individual with nobody else helping. The debate here seems to be over what can be included in each list; I think the individual list should contain "crew-served" weapons that are usually only operated by one person. Again, you're not understanding; operated by a single person does NOT mean that the weapon is "individual". It does not change the status of whether it is a crew served weapon. It's one thing to have a note in the "List of Crew Served Weapons" page noting that a single person often operates the M249; that's accurate. However it's completely wrong to include it on a list for individual weapons, because it is NOT an individual weapon. The image you linked from FM 7-8 (which as a former infantryman, having served as an M249 gunner, I'm intimately familiar with), is entirely irrelevant to whether the weapon is crew served or not. 10 years out of date (last updated 1999); and the specific article on the M249 does not mention it as an individual weapon, just that it is individually portable (i.e., not broken into components and carried by multiple soldiers like the MK19 or M2). Perhaps You Can Help...

A few of us at WP:TVS are having a problem with User:Theaveng adding copyrighted information to List of television stations in North America by media market‎. The information has to do with the Nielsen Television Markets. The user has been adding information from the FCC (which is exactly alike to the information Nielsen uses). To avoid being in violation of OTRS ticket #2008091610055854, the information is removed. For whatever reason User:Theaveng readds it. The user has been warned multiple times and had stopped, but started up again today. I reverted and issued a Warn4im warning.

I brought this to User:Powergate92‎ (who has been involved in talk page discussions about this and who I thought was an admin) and he sugguested I bring it to an admin. I spoke with User:Juliancolton and for some reason he couldn't find the OTRS ticket and directed me to you, I was then directed to User:J.delanoy who didn't have access to the queue the ticket was in, he directed me to User:Daniel, who directed me to you. Also, those pages were not my user talk pages (as you called them); my user talk page is here: Those pages were just other stuff which technically happened to be in the user talk page space, though those pages are no talk pages intended for communication (just as for example this page in your user space, that you have even fully-protected). Hello Swatjester. :) I am requesting that you remove the protection you placed on the California Miramar University article over a year ago. If you did not place this protection, please let me know who did and I will contact that person. I have been following this article for almost six months and trying to make edits to this page but the page has been protected with editing access denied to all but an apparent handful of contributors.

For example, in the discussion area of the article I provided a link several months ago that showed CMU was a candidate for National Accreditation with the Distance Education Training Counsel. CMU's name was listed on the DETC website as such. I was told by one contributor that he did not feel that this candidate status was worthy of listing in the main article because a lot of schools that are candidates don't end up being accredited. I reminded this person that that was an opinion and that opinions should not interfere with presenting the facts relating to the article. The fact of CMU's candidate status with DETC, however, never made it onto the main Article page due to the "opinion" alone of one of the contributors who had editorial access and the protection of the article from other contributors like myself who cannot get verifiable material into the article.

Yesterday, I went on the DETC site and found that CMU gained national accreditation from DETC earlier this month.DETC 2009-10 Directory of Accredited Institutions In fact, CMU was the only new institution accredited in the June cycle by DETC. Notes of June DETC Accreditation Meeting However, because the article is protected, I have to wait for someone to post this information for me. I don't think this is Wikipedia's intent or their policy.

I hope that CMU's accreditation will bring about a positive change in the article and the contributors. Hopefully you will agree that the initial reason for blocking the article over a year ago seems to be in the past. I am looking for a fair and balanced article. Protecting the article and thereby denying access to legitimate contributors with verifiable and referenced information concerning the article is simply not fair and not in accordance with Wikipedia policy.

WP:Hornbook -- a new law-related task force for the J.D. curriculum

Hi Swatjester/archive17,

I'm asking Wikipedians who are interested in United States legal articles to take a look at WP:Hornbook, the new "JD curriculum task force".

Our mission is to assimilate into Wikipedia all the insights of an American law school education, by reducing hornbooks to footnotes.

• Each casebook will have a subpage.

• Over the course of a semester, each subpage will shift its focus to track the unfolding curriculum(s) for classes using that casebook around the country.
• It will also feature an extensive, hyperlinked "index" or "outline" to that casebook, pointing to pages, headers, or {{anchors}} in Wikipedia (example).
• Individual law schools can freely adapt our casebook outlines to the idiosyncratic curriculum devised by each individual professor.

• I'm encouraging law students around the country to create local chapters of the club I'm starting at my own law school, "Student WP:Hornbook Editors". Using WP:Hornbook as our headquarters, we're hoping to create a study group so inclusive that nobody will dare not join.

What you can do now:

1. Add WP:Hornbook to your watchlist, {{User Hornbook}} to your userpage, and ~~~~ to Wikipedia:Hornbook/participants.

2. If you're a law student,

• Email http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:Hornbook to your classmates, and tell them to do the same.
• Contact me directly via talk page or email about coordinating a chapter of "Student WP:Hornbook Editors" at your own school.

Wikis Take Manhattan

WHAT Wikis Take Manhattan is a scavenger hunt and free content photography contest aimed at illustrating Wikipedia and StreetsWiki articles covering sites and street features in Manhattan and across the five boroughs of New York City.

LAST YEAR'S EVENT

• Wikipedia:Wikipedia Takes Manhattan/Fall 2008 (a description of the results, and the uploading party)
• Commons:Wikis Take Manhattan (our cool team galleries)
• Streetfilms: Wikis Take Manhattan (our awesome video)

WINNINGS? The first prize winning team members will get Eye-Fi Share cards, which automatically upload photos from your camera to your computer and to sites like Flickr. And there will also be cool prizes for other top scorers.

WHEN The hunt will take place Saturday, October 10th from 1:00pm to 6:30pm, followed by prizes and celebration.

WHO All Wikipedians and non-Wikipedians are invited to participate in team of up to three (no special knowledge is required at all, just a digital camera and a love of the city). Bring a friend (or two)!

Hey, you deleted/salted Carolyn Joyce Carty back in January with references to an OTRS ticket (#2009011210025003). It's now reappeared (along with several other articles which seem to be connected: Library Week, Robert Louis Scharring-Hausen and Ella H. Scharring-Hausen). Superficially, they seem to be referenced, but the refs I've checked out doesn't seem to actually support the claims. They appear to me to be a fluff pieces of very marginal notability (if not flat out false, given the unreliable sourcing). NYC Wikipedia Meetup Sunday, March 21
