Notice

The article James Rowe (football manager) has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. James Rowe (football manager) moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, James Rowe (football manager), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. I dream of horses (talk) (contribs) Remember to {{ping}} me after replying off my talk page 03:52, 16 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I am current working on the article and have now included sources and citations from reliable and independent sources. It is an ongoing article that will take time to construct therefore would appreciate your patience. There are plenty of references and citations to be added. Am I okay to continue in draft until such time as it is ready for review/main space?{{ping}}82.27.208.149 (talk) 04:54, 16 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely, that is what draft-space is for. If you make no edits at all to it for 6 months someone may delete it (and even then one can ask for restoration later). Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:24, 16 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging I dream of horses. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) Hello I have now completed the draft article that I have been working on and discussed with you back in March. On the draft page there is a prompt to 'submit your draft for review' should i now select this' if yes what happens next please? There is a section that states 'improving your draft for a speedy review' however I don't fully understand what to do here, can you advise please? Susy211 (talk) 14:41, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Susy211! Annoying WP-thing first: This edit [1] didn't "ping" properly myself or I dream of horses, but I noticed anyway because of something called WP:WATCHLIST. You did it right, apart from that there must be a 4 tilde signature in the same published edit. You can't do it a bit at a time (changing the text in the message later doesn't mess things up, but don't do that after someone has replied). Join the club, I did the same thing myself earlier today.
What happens is that your article is put in a sadly long queue (you will be told that in a box that appears on the page when you submit). Eventually, a WP:REVIEWER will look at it, and judge it according to WP:GNG, WP:BASIC, WP:BLP, WP:COPYPASTE and whatever. If they think "fine", the article is moved to mainspace. If not, they will tell you why. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:15, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I draftified the article since it was unsourced. Your draft is now in another sadly long queue, and will probably get reviewed, at most, in a month-and-a-half. courtesy ping to Gråbergs Gråa Sång I dream of horses (talk page) (Contribs) Remember to notify me after replying off my talk page. 17:27, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's not in the queue yet. Has to click the blue button first. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:38, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I don't think I have quite grasped how to reply accurately as unsure how the 'ping' eg notify you works? I will try here fingers crossed. Thank you for your response. I understand that I should click the blue button to submit, as said before there is information about a way to get it looked at speedily does this work and if so what do I need to do? If not no problem I will wait patiently. Lastly, I don't understand what you mean by 'draftified' does this mean you put it into draft space so that I could continue to work on the draft?I have also been worried since I go the message about it being deleted as unsourced, the message states to delete the tag again I don't know if meant to do this or how to remove this tagSusy211 (talk) 08:04, 23 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
About pinging, try reading the lead at WP:PING, I don't know how else I can explain it. I don't know any good way to get a quick review, but you may get lucky, so submit and wait is the way to go. And yes, that is what I dream of horses meant by "draftified". Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:38, 24 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see that the "Review waiting" template has "Improving your odds of a speedy review" advice, didn't know that. I added WikiProjects to the talkpage, hopefully it helps. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 18:11, 24 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

Do you have a good ref for his birthdate? Per WP:DOB, WP is picky about that. If there is none, just leave it out.

Also, you used http://histonfootballclub.tripod.com/ as a ref (that he played for Histon). Two things, the page you arrive at says nothing about Rowe, and "Histon FC - Unofficial Website" is fairly obviously not good enough for a WP:BLP. The official FC page would be ok for the fact that he played for Histon, but I changed it to this one [2], which is one step better in WP-land because it's independent of Rowe and his (then) employer. And, at least according to WP, some sort of newspaper. If you have used more refs like that, you should try to find better. And, while only referencing a bare weblink is mostly acceptable, it is also the bare minimum of what is expected in an article these days. See Help:Introduction for how to make your references look better. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:44, 24 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Error in Template:Reply to: Username not given.Gråbergs Gråa Sång Please can you help, the article in which I created and have continued to keep updated was the subject of vandalism in the last few days, misrepresentation, slanderous comments etc that were allowed to be published? How can this kind of editing be allowed to be published? I have since followed guidance and reverted the article back to original which is accurate. Would you be able to provide advice or guide me please?Susy211 (talk) 15:43, 26 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again! This is Wikipedia, by default every new edit is "allowed". There is some software/bot around that can detect some WP:VANDALISM/bad words, but apparently "colon" wasn't one of them, and stuff like [3] will not be detected by bots, or perhaps not even people like myself, if we are even looking. There's also editors who look for strange new edits in different ways, but they won't catch everything quickly.
So what is to be done? You noticed and reverted the bad edits, check.
I noted at User talk:ShotsSupporter 1986 that hey, they shouldn't do that. Based on their edithistory [4], it's what we can do for now. Hopefully it was a one-time thing.
If the same editor returns, with similar edits, you go here: WP:AIV. If several editors/IP:s start doing similar edits, you go here: WP:RFPP. For now it's to early for either. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:12, 26 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Error in Template:Reply to: Username not given.Gråbergs Gråa SångHello thank you for coming back to quickly and for the guidance, would there be a way for getting alerts when this page is updated so that can keep track of this kind of vandalism? A series of edits from 24-25, 26th Nov mostly from ShotsSupport 1986 another negative and false contributor was IP address, would the same apply to this person?

Thank you for noting on the user's page that they shouldn't do that. Susy211 (talk) 16:23, 26 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, you have a point about the IP:s, didn't consider that. Valereee, per [5][6][7] what do you say, is it enough for a pageprotection? Valereee has superpowers and can do stuff. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:37, 26 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Right, Valereee can block people. Consider her a friendly, I don't know, White Walker or something. Anyway, I did one more thing: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#James_Rowe_(football_manager). Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 19:33, 26 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you want, you can discuss that template with the editor who put it there. Talk:James Rowe (football manager) is the place to discuss the article. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 14:07, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Susy, if you're his mom, you have a conflict of interest, which you can read about at WP:COI. We can manage that, but it does mean that you shouldn't be directly editing the article about him, or about your husband. In order to remove that banner, you'll need to disclose your COI (instructions about that at the link). We can place a template instead on the talk page, where it's not as visible, and then when you have edits you want made, you can make an edit request, which is also explained at the above link, and another editor can decide whether to add the information. —valereee (talk) 14:09, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

—valereee thank you for this, I didn't realise this, I understand and as guided had a peak at COI a little unsure what to do and concerned I might do the wrong thing will give it a go. If you can manage and place the template on the talk page this would be helpfulSusy211 (talk) 15:08, 27 November 2020 (UTC) Error in Template:Reply to: Username not given.—valereee would this be what I should do?[reply]

How to disclose a COI General COI Shortcuts WP:DISCLOSE WP:DCOI If you become involved in an article where you have any COI, you should always let other editors know about it, whenever and wherever you discuss the topic. There are three venues to do this.

1. If you want to use a template to do this, place

at the top of the affected talk page, fill it in as follows, and save:Susy211 (talk) 15:20, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've added it to the James Rowe page, you can just copy and paste what I added to the other page. Would you like me to add it to your user page for you? —valereee (talk) 15:28, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Error in Template:Reply to: Username not given.—valereeeThank you the other page you refer to is Colwyn Rowe yes ? Geez it’s been a long day :-) Susy211 (talk) 16:43, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Error in Template:Reply to: Username not given.—valereeeHey the template is back again this is becoming relentless please can you consider protection. Susy211 (talk) 18:13, 27 November 2020 (UTC) Error in Template:Reply to: Username not given.—valereeehey there, have looked at trying to copy and paste to the talk page, is does appear to be at the foot of the talk page... I thought it could be managed therefore removed from the article page and placed on the talk page, it is still on article page can this still be managed and removed now that it appears on the talk page? Also can the other warning about Gloucester I am not really sure what the conflict is as the subject is no longer manager of Gloucester City AFC? can this also be rectified not sure it wise to edit the page now so a little apprehensive to rectifySusy211 (talk) 09:11, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Susy211, I've added the templates to the talk and your user, and I've opened a discussion at the user talk asking why the other editor re-added the tag to the article.
Let's take this discussion there. No, you should not edit any more -- if you do, the COI tag will likely stay on the article permanently.
I have no idea what the Gloucester thing is about, I don't sports. Not even sure what variety of football we're talking about here -- so many footballs. That's something you can bring up with the editor who added it at article talk. —valereee (talk) 11:25, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Re: protection. We don't protect articles from well-intentioned other editors who disagree with us. We only use protection in very limited cases; things like persistent vandalism or edit wars. The downside of having a wikipedia article about oneself is that unlike your linkedin or facebook, you don't control it. It belongs to Wikipedia, not to the article subject. —valereee (talk) 11:30, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
About "you should not edit". That's about WP-articles where you have a WP:COI. You can edit their talkpages, Gloucestershire Old Spots or whatever. If you want to discuss with other editors, remember WP:Assume good faith. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 12:25, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
GGS, thank you for that clarification. Yes, Susy, it's only editing the articles themselves that would cause another editor to re-add the tag. —valereee (talk) 12:45, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

{{ping|Valereee}} Thank you for sorting, sorry to cause you this hassle, sensible idea yes to move the discussion helpful. Have noted COI, helpful.

Gloucester thing- basically the subject is a professional football manager and managed Gloucester City AFC 2019-Nov 2020, he left Gloucester City FC this week and has been appointed new Manager of Chesterfield FC which consequently fueling all this aftermath.

Protection - understood, last thing want is to blight editors with good intentions free speech and all, just concerned about the negative, not helpful, personal attack editing etc as not what wiki is about. Just querying how you would protect disgruntled football supporters etc attacking biogs of living persons. It is clear, whilst i really do enjoy the concept, interactions etc in the main, there is still a great deal I need to learn about wiki :-$

Future editing - again thank you for the clarification, all noted :) {{ping|Gråbergs Gråa Sång}}

Susy, I guarantee there'll be negative stuff in the article, if it's reported in reliable sources, and stuff that will piss you off, since he's your son. That could include criticism by a local sportswriter in an independent local newspaper of his decision to move to a new club or whatever.
If an editor came in and started adding unsourced libellous content, any editor including one with a COI may remove it with an appropriate edit summary (such as "unsourced controversial content"), then go to the talk page to explain, and may continue to remove it, although after the third removal you should report it to either WP:BLPN or WP:ANEW to get administrative help. But again, just because it's negative -- that is, presents the person in a bad light or criticizes them -- is not libel.
Once you've reported it somewhere, you can continue to revert what you see as unsourced libel until an admin shows up. They may decide to block the editor or protect the page. But if they tell you, "Hey, this isn't violating our policies, stop reverting", you should take them at their word; because you have this COI, things that are perfectly appropriate for an article may feel unfair to you, his mom. You'll have to accept that. :) —valereee (talk) 16:49, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Valereee: Argh yes it will probably "P" me off but I accept it is part of the game, everyone has a point of view which should be respected, criticism by local sportswriters etc that's okay if referenced and sourced properly. It's was the unsourced libellous content which was the cause for concern. Now that it has been removed hopefully things will settle down.

Have noted your advice if content such as this appears again and as said will accept "negative" and "criticism" not to be libelSusy211 (talk) 12:48, 29 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
