August music

August songs
my story today

Today's music is played by my brother's orchestra, conducted by two very young men on their way up, - the picture was taken shortly after the invasion of Ukraine began, - more detail on my talk. Images reached the day of the Tenebrae concert mentioned in July. - Thank you for looking at the mess, it's comforting that I am not the only one ;) -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:46, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

That's cool that your brother does music too. You aren't the only one, people get so wrapped up in stuff that isn't truly important in the great scheme of things. SusunW (talk) 17:52, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, comforting again! - My story today - a first - isn't about an article by me, but one I reviewed for DYK, see here. I like all: topic, "hook", connected article (a GA on its way towards FA), image and the music "in the background". I just returned from a weekend of weddings, so also like the spirit ;) - Pics to come, I promise one cake, the other was too large! Good music, and better even in the concert ending the second day, - Goldberg Variations theme for an encore, after Dohnányi Serenade. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:41, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
Again not by me: today's story - with the triumph of music over military - is uplifting! - No cake yet, but a butterfly and open-air opera. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:23, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
Lovely. The idea of peace, be it personal or world wide, in itself is inspirational to me. SusunW (talk) 21:40, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
Yes! - Now: picture of heart-shaped cake(s) uploaded! - Today's story is about a tenor, - why his roles are not linked on the Main page remains a mystery to me. Today is also the birthday of the Bayreuth Festival. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:01, 13 August 2023 (UTC)
The cakes are beautiful, but I am more interested in the pitaya in the image before. Who knew this yummy, yummy fruit would grow in Germany? I've been busily working on GA reviews (3) and articles on indigenous women, between runs to pick up friends from abroad who are here for medical stuff. Life is a zoo, but an amazing adventure. SusunW (talk) 22:39, 13 August 2023 (UTC)
Pitaya - like babana and orange - is eaten in Germany but doesn't grow there ;) - I raised the question on Richard Wagner if his wife deserved room in the intro, - from a woman's point of view. I noticed only today that she wasn't mentioned. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:11, 14 August 2023 (UTC)
One more day uploaded, with another wedding cake - I couldn't resist. Today's story is about the Inkpot Madonna who returned to "her place" 9 years ago, and also has aspects of early learning, see? - Wagner's wife is mentioned now! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:03, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
Very cool, particularly happy about the wife. I am totally stoked as I just worked out how a woman who sources indicate was single her whole life could have married and had children, which other sources support. Lots of research, but finally discovered, she didn't, she had an older sister who was also named the same thing as her. You cannot make this stuff up. SusunW (talk) 18:04, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
Thank you! - I didn't have to investigate yet what you describe ;) - Pleasant work yesterday on Berit Lindholm, who made it to the Main page the same day! Would you perhaps find a review or two? But she was in the U.S: only for one season, - I think she disliked to be so far away from her daughters. I could find only that bit, - not how many, not if married. Survived by grandchildren. Interesting interview (if you have time), last question how she would like to be remembered, and she said: as a good grandma by happy grandchildren. - Oh, and congrats to more GAs! Berit is nominated for DYK, btw. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:32, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
Don't have much time, still in the middle of 2 GA reviews (one passed), but it looks like she definitely was in the US for several seasons. Also in Canada and London. A quick search gives these.[1],[2], [3], [4], [5],[6] Hope those help. SusunW (talk) 18:53, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
Thank you so much! - I'm sorry, I identified the Met with America ;) - I'll take #5 for now, - only good about the dead. #4 and #6 are previews. #5 has extra info about her first child, as much detail as "four months pregnant". - Funny, I also had two GA reviews, one done, one open (and I asked for patience for these jobs that can't wait). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:44, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
Today is the anniversary of the premiere of Götterdämmerung (see July). Berit Lindholm sang its final scene in concert at the Royal Festival Hall in London, only four years after her stage debut in a Mozart opera in Stockholm. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:16, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
Cool. I managed to get through one more GA review but had another one start. Thank you for the intro to Graham87. He did quite a bit of linking and some editing on Michael Trujillo, after we got him separated from his dad, Miguel. It's not long, but enough to show clear notability and there's lots of sources out there to let someone expand it. SusunW (talk) 22:41, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
My pleasure, - Graham helped me a lot when I was a newbie, - I need less help now, but still know where to call. - Today I heard a delightful concert, "Himmlische Freuden", remembered having heard Vilde Frang (Bruch concerto, in Zürich, with my brother's orchestra), and succeeded in preparing Renata Scotto's article enough for the Main page (which took two days). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:03, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
Today's story is based on a 2011 DYK that would not pass 2023 reviewers, - hooks have to be of interest to the general public, which opera singers are not, so they say. Take Berit Lindholm, discussed here. - I added pics until a happy day with excellent food. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:39, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
Sometimes it is just easier to not do stuff ;). I definitely understand the issue of topics that are not interesting to the general public. But, since I write to learn stuff, I don't really care if other people find my topics interesting. Food, one of the most intimate things, IMO you can share with someone. It gives a piece of your soul. Crazy zoo at my house, but we managed to get our out of town visitors settled, surgery completed, follow-up from surgery completed for another and I am working on a crazy complicated article about an Indigenous woman. Glad you had a happy day. Mine has been fruitful and positive. SusunW (talk) 17:51, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for understanding. By "happy day" I meant the one to which I updated the pics, 13 August. - DYK: I believe the most important thing for a hook is to say something specific to the subject, not something that could be said about others as well. "interesting" is such a wide concept, - many things interesting to many I don't care about, and what about minorities? I hate hooks that say someone was this or that before following their calling, - I want to know about the calling. - As for Lindholm, Floq understood me ;) --
Yes, I saw that. And absolutely, what is interesting to me, may not be to others and vice verse. Of general interest often seems to apply to pop culture, which is definitely not my thing. SusunW (talk) 20:37, 21 August 2023 (UTC)

Today is Debussy's birthday. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:35, 22 August 2023 (UTC)

Today is Gwendolyn Killebrew's birthday, - pictured: a spider and sweet food (that I made) - Yesterday I added Killebrew to Lindholm's article, and today it became GA! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:24, 26 August 2023 (UTC)

Very cool. I managed to finish Louisa Briggs and George is helping me with the photos. She was very hard to write, but to my mind both important and interesting. SusunW (talk) 14:46, 27 August 2023 (UTC)
Sounds great! - Bach concert ahead tonight! - Could you perhaps find press for Lindholm performing at the Bolshoi in Moscow, Tristan und Isolde, visit of Vienna State Opera 1971? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:50, 27 August 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt couldn't find anything. All the articles in Russian are about her recent death. Newspapers.com doesn't mention either of those places. The Austrian newspaper archives only gives returns on her name before 1930, so it is likely someone else. SusunW (talk) 15:44, 27 August 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for looking! - This too shall pass. - Ten years ago on 28 August, I heard a symphony, with a heavy heart because of the pending decision in WP:ARBINFOBOX, and not worried about my future here but Andy's. - It passed, and I could write the DYK about calling to dance, not battle, and Andy could write the DYK mentioning about peace and reconciliation, - look. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:46, 28 August 2023 (UTC)

Women in Green GA Editathon October 2023 - Around the World in 31 Days

Hello SusunW:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2023!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2023, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!

Poll tax redux

Mentioning this because I know you were interested in the subject...

I had not realized that one of the court cases ending Virginia's poll tax, Harper v. Virginia Board of Elections, had roots in one of the communities near my house. Annie Harper, the complainant in the case, lived in the community of Gum Springs, which is just around the corner (I could walk there if I wanted - it would take me maybe a half-hour, given that we live at the back of my development). I'd never heard anything about her story, but a few months ago the Commonwealth unveiled a historic marker right by her former home. I got a couple of pictures when I went to lunch one day: here's the marker, and here it is in situ. I did a little googling, and there doesn't appear to be enough information out there to develop a separate article about Annie Harper, but you may have more luck. I did, however, discover that she's buried locally, in the church cemetery which is about a mile in the other direction from me; one of these weekends I want to go over there and see if I can get a picture of her grave. (And probably a bunch of other pictures, and I'll end up creating a category on Commons, but that's neither here nor there.) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 22:19, 21 September 2023 (UTC)

Ser Amantio di Nicolao so good to hear from you. Sorry to be slow to answer, but we were without internet last week as we were doing my mom's 90th birthday in Oklahoma. (There was internet, we just didn't have time for it.) This is a really cool development. One of the reasons I love doing women's history is that because it is circular and not linear, i.e. a whole network of people vs. "this one really great dude", it's makes history more relatable. Its amazing how many diverse women worked in causes that by studying the women, you learn more about the society and the issues they were trying to solve. It'll take me a few days to get back on my feet so to speak, but I'll see what I can dig up and let you know. SusunW (talk) 13:31, 27 September 2023 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Lotta Dempsey

The article Lotta Dempsey you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Lotta Dempsey for comments about the article, and Talk:Lotta Dempsey/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has never appeared on the Main Page as a "Did you know" item, and has not appeared within the last year either as "Today's featured article", or as a bold link under "In the news" or in the "On this day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear at DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On this day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. September songs
my story today

Congratulations to another GA! - Our festival's last concert was most moving and inspiring, and there are seconds of it - plus glimpses of an interview with the conductor, age 96 - in this tv summary. - thank you for clarifying with Berit Lindholm's image! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:46, 3 September 2023 (UTC)

Thank you. Happy to help. Unfortunately the image I found isn't as good, but will keep us out of legal hot water and will provide a photo for the article. Been crazy storms here all day, power in and out. Glad you are getting to enjoy a concert, us, only massive thunder. SusunW (talk) 20:58, 3 September 2023 (UTC)
Could you perhaps find a review for Milka Stojanović? The Met opera archives don't work where I'd normally find them. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:56, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt Never had that happen before, but I get only one. Tried archive.org and newspaperarchive.com too. Nada. SusunW (talk) 14:34, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
Thank you! One is immensely better than none. Have you tried without the diacritic? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:39, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
Yes, with it I got zero hits on her at all. SusunW (talk) 14:41, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
Understand. - Now pics around the memorable concert mentioned, and the story of Walter Arlen, - proud that I survived the decision in WP:ARBINFOBOX for 10 years, standing and singing --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:15, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
Today's story is about a great pianist with an unusual career, taking off when he was 50. It's the wedding anniversary of Clara and Robert Schumann, but I was too late with our gift. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:14, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
I always love an unusual story. It keeps hope alive. SusunW (talk) 14:30, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
well said! - today I remember Raymond Arritt, who still helps me, five years after he died, per what he said in my darkest time on Wikipedia (placed in my edit-notice as a reminder), and by teh rulez. - Latest pics from a weekend in Berlin (one more day to come). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:06, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
Good morning Gerda Arendt I'm back from my trip. Hope all is well. SusunW (talk) 13:33, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
Short trip on bikes, passing by today's story, concert to come in the evening - that's all well. Pic to come, but have an GA to write first, still on the Main page but last position now. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:35, 27 September 2023 (UTC)

Here we go again...

You and I have had this conversation before, but wanted to share an update. I had every intention to finish cropping and uploading images from the U.S. PD book Michigan Federation Forum into WikiCommons while on my current travels, but find myself in a country where I can't access the pages. It's my bad that I hadn't asked a Wikisource person to the book to Wikisource. Don't need you to do anything; I'm just griping over my first cup of coffee in a new land. I can say that the scenery out of my hotel window is breathtaking and the many birds flying around are better amusement than cropping images on such a fine day, so I shall let it go. --Rosiestep (talk) 01:49, 19 October 2023 (UTC)

Rosiestep can you access them via VPN and then upload them without VPN? Just a thought. I've never actually tried it, just been frustrated when traveling that I cannot access stuff. This last trip to the US was really annoying about that and when I was leaving, someone suggested using VPN, so I didn't try it. SusunW (talk) 13:05, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
Never even thought of that. I'll see if someone here can help me go through a VPN. It's been years since I used one. Thanks for the suggestion! --Rosiestep (talk) 00:27, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
And, Rosiestep, make sure to enjoy the birds and all the details, the sounds, the colors, around you. Look for the little things in your travels. I trained myself to do this when I travelled across the US from hostel to hostel. I remember some the the smallest details from that months long trip. One of my favorite memories along the way was visiting every Love Scuplture across the nation and even some international ones. Seems like a lifetime ago but I remember my travelling days with so much fondness. --ARoseWolf 11:46, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
ARoseWolf The smells, taste, music, artwork, and people of a place are usually what I remember. We realized years ago that many of our stories about the trips we take are about the food we had and the kindness and quirkiness of people. We have met amazing people all over the world and their music or art lets you communicate without knowing the language. SusunW (talk) 13:19, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
Yes, Yes, Yes. A friend once told me it was dangerous to leave the designated areas for tourist but I would have missed all the wonderful things about a place if I stayed within the lines. Besides, I've never been a straight lines kind of person anyway. The ultimate beauty of a location are those things you mentioned. The culture is the color if a place. Those are the details worth living. --ARoseWolf 13:34, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
How did I know we traveled the same ARoseWolf? We are very likely to forgo tourist spots and travel to the hidden gems, that you only learn about from talking to locals. SusunW (talk) 13:50, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
Every where I have travelled this is what I do. Why would one travel only to experience blah. lol No, I want to taste the spice. To live through everyone I meet, a hundred lives all at once. The history, the language, the food, the culture and all the sounds in the streets. I have a love so rich for my human kind. Oh, the flavors cause my mouth to water and my mind to burst like fireworks. I see the colors all around me. It is so enrapturing, so deep and meaningful. My Rainbow! --ARoseWolf 14:41, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
Absolutely that ARoseWolf! SusunW (talk) 14:50, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
@Rosiestep: Would you like the Michigan Federation Forum book as a PDF in an email? --GRuban (talk) 14:39, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
GRuban and his magic wand and skill to the rescue. See, I told you you are amazing. SusunW (talk) 14:50, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
GRbuen, wow, what an offer! If it's not too much trouble, then yes, please. (My email is indicated on my userpage.) But at this point, no worries if it doesn't happen. --Rosiestep (talk) 06:15, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

Any information

Hi Susun, Hope all is well. I'm trying to find more information about Walt Whitman's April 1887 lecture on the Death of Lincoln at Madison Square Theatre (see the third-to-last entry at here). As you can see from the explanatory footnotes, FN b and c, sources are in contradiction about a lot of the details. I know it's a bit out of your wheelhouse, but can I ask if you mind taking a brief look and letting me know if you can find any more primary sources about it? No worries if you don't have the time or interest, just thought I'd ask a stronger researcher than myself. Cheers, Eddie891 Talk Work 03:59, 29 October 2023 (UTC)

Hey Eddie891, I've spent a couple hours on it and find all of the same contradictions you did. My 2 ideas were to figure out where his financial journals are because this says he kept meticulous records of his donations and whether he kept a diary. I don't see any such thing listed in his papers, nor any correspondence with Whitman. I also find no mention of the poet in Carnegie's autobiography. Sorry I couldn't help more, but as a consolation, here's some reviews on some of the other lectures.[7],[8],[9],[10],[11],[12]. I also found this advertisement which puts into perspective how big a crowd there must have been to raise $600. Please feel free to ask me anytime for help and I'll give it a shot. SusunW (talk) 15:33, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
Thank you so much for taking a look! In other notes, I have an appointment with my rare books collection to look at your request from the talk of the resource exchange, so will hopefully have an update within the next couple weeks. Eddie891 Talk Work 16:42, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
Very cool. I appreciate your help very much. SusunW (talk) 17:03, 29 October 2023 (UTC)

October music

October songs
my story today

My story today is sad but great. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:47, 6 October 2023 (UTC)

It is a good story. For us to know joy we must also know sadness. It is the balance of life. I also looked at your pictures. Two things stood out. Sept 23 is my mom's birthday and you were celebrating birthdays - the world is a smaller place than we recognize. That ancient cow is awesome. SusunW (talk) 13:29, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
Yes, agree about joy and sadness. The birthday celebration of my friend was not her real birthday, but nice coincidence ;) - Today another sad story, but a birthday tomorrow, and perhaps more pics later. Want to do a FAC before, - haven't gotten to that lately. Instead of doing it, I had first to fix the basics of another heldentenor who died, and which still has no references ... --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:25, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
A few more pics, and see my talk for what we sang today (I'm the woman in red, of course), and what Tabea Zimmermann played (today's story on her birthday): I heard it, and it's on YouTube. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:07, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
Very cool. Love the photos. I am hip deep in a cold war story that needs to be told. Am totally enjoying writing her story, although the Japanese is hard. SusunW (talk) 22:20, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
A few more pics - rest of September. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:53, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
Love, love, love the photos. The little pond looks like the perfect place to go fishing with grandpa. Oh how I miss doing that. SusunW (talk) 13:54, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
How nice of you to say that! - More pics then, along a river, and today's story is on a birthday, and the real DYK was already on that birthday --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:43, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
Sorry to be slow to answer. We lost my second mother on our wedding anniversary. I was so glad that we got to see her at my mom's birthday. She was 91, so not unexpected, but still it was not an easy loss. I love the photos. The train and that bridge are exquisite. SusunW (talk) 14:51, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
I feel with you about your loss, - please give a hug to your husband. I have an entry for "memory" almost constantly on my talk, working on Carla Bley right now. One more day of pics, around a palace. I will listen to a choral concert tonight announced as "About love, evening and night", at the place of today's story. I sometimes feel that night music and death music are very similar. Suscepit Israel --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:56, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
Sending my condolences, SusunW, and a hug. --Rosiestep (talk) 01:35, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
Thanks Rosiestep. I appreciate it. SusunW (talk) 21:21, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
User talk:Gerda Arendt#Music - more about that music. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:58, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
Today, it's a place that inspired me, musings if you have time. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:24, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt love the sculpture. And that red ivy. I think I have never seen ivy that wasn't green. A feast for the eyes. SusunW (talk) 13:32, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
This climber is also green for most of the year, - it turns red only for a few days just before falling. - The sculptor's widow was at the reception on a hot June day, and loved so much how many came, and explained, so full of life! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:37, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
A Romanian woman composer is today's topic. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:23, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
Very cool. I enjoy writing about Romanian women from time to time. My lady of the day is a Vietnamese anti-war activist. Took a lot of work to figure out what to call the article, and I'm still working with George on photos, but she went live. SusunW (talk) 17:25, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, and for "yours"! And today it's about a couple - found the cute image only yesterday, and it's not exactly clear if taken before or after their wedding. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:29, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
Love the photo. Also the flowers and the mushroom on your photos page. SusunW (talk) 16:36, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
have a few more, then ;) - a French woman today with a small body and a great voice whose portrayal of a role with different aspects I enjoyed! And another interesting composer. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:37, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
Both are lovely, as are the cow photos. What kind of cow? Brought back traveling with my dad images in my head. We drove all over the US when I was a kid. Two of our favorite games were trying to find license tags from each state and naming how many varieties of cows we could find. I guess to most people a cow is just a cow, but there are huge differences between say an Angus, a Texas Longhorn, a Charolais, a Hereford, a Guernsey, a Santa Gertrudis, a Brahma, etc. Mayhaps one has to be from cattle country SusunW (talk) 15:51, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
I wish I knew which kind of cow. The look like an older "style" of cow, and know that some animals are sort of recreated. - Towards the end of the month, I thought of Brian Bouldton, and his ways to compromise, - with musings about peace there, - feel free to join. Hevenu shalom aleichem. Today is Reformation Day, and I believe that reformation is a work in progress. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:59, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
Today is the beginning of Días de Muertos celebrations and tomorrow is Hanal Pixán, huge celebration in the Yucatan peninsula to remember friends and family members who have died and celebrate the circle of life. (Hevenu shalom aleichem is one of the few things I learned in Hebrew class - my godparents were Jewish - that I remember.) Peace is definitely central to our being and I think cannot be achieved without compromise. SusunW (talk) 19:47, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

WIDF Caracas 2007

In connection with sources related to Márcia Campos, I came across this detailed account of the Caracas congress. I also see that several communications from Campos on letter-headed paper refer to the organization as "Women International Democratic Organization" (see for example here). Perhaps I should have mentioned this on the WIDF talk page but did not want to confuse things any further there for the time being. I'll put something together on Campos (who seems to be strongly left wing) today or tomorrow.--Ipigott (talk) 15:59, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Ipigott I see that you created Campos. Thank you so much for working on these women! I don't see it called Organization but do see it as the "Women International Democratic Federation" I've only ever seen that version in Portuguese. The weight of sources citing it as "Women's", makes me think it is a translation thing. SusunW (talk) 14:00, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
My mistake. I wanted to draw attention to "Women" rather than "Women's". Probably not too important and may well be a mistranslation. I'll try to cover more of the non-English speaking women as time permits. For today, continuing with Campos.--Ipigott (talk) 14:15, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
Cool. I'm finalizing the main article and then going back to my Indonesian woman. Just glad to have my computer back for now. SusunW (talk) 14:32, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
Finished Campos for now. Glad to hear your computer's working again. Maybe you should just buy a new laptop with a large screen. Prices are not as high as they were. Covering Indonesian women is an ambitious undertaking. If you face any problems with Dutch, I might be able to help you along. I'll also try to add to my list of WIDF people and cover a few of them with biographies. It might be a long-term assignment as I keep coming across new names. On the other hand, I've been wondering if we have not fallen into the trap of dismissing the significance of socialist/communist organizations and their participants as a result of our Western background. In retrospect, many of their activities seem to have been based on fairly sound principles. Maybe we should be devoting more time to them as historical information becomes increasingly available. It would be interesting to find out if there are any university-based research initiatives along these lines.--Ipigott (talk) 16:00, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
Yes, I am resigned that the computer has to be replaced and also that this will be an on-going project. Absolutely agree with your assessment, which is what de Haan called the "iron curtain" divide. Basically as you say dismissing the women and their organizations because they were affiliated with communism. I think I always knew it, but writing Matsuoka certainly made me much more aware of how similar our lives were but also how similar globally the struggles to decolonize were and how the cold war impacted people. It's a fascinating project for sure. I'm wrapping up Umi and will ask you to look at her. SusunW (talk) 16:47, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

Using the wiki library

Hi Susun! I realise I should have put my query here rather than on the WiR talk page sorry! I now have wiki library entry and have tried to search and find that Dictionary of Afro Latin biographies. But I just get reviews of it. Is there a page where I can read about how to actually use the library? I don't seem to know what I am doing! I expect there are lots of help pages somewhere? Thanks if you can! Balance person (talk) 10:39, 18 November 2023 (UTC)

Balance person No worries, here I see the message directly. On the WiR page, I miss stuff if you don't ping me. I'm glad to help. I'll post the answer there, because it may help others. SusunW (talk) 14:04, 18 November 2023 (UTC)
SOOOO helpful Thank you. I have now got access to the page I need. Balance person (talk) 22:05, 18 November 2023 (UTC)
Balance person I am very glad that worked! Good luck with your article. Feel free to ask any time and I'll try to help. SusunW (talk) 22:13, 18 November 2023 (UTC)

Hevenu shalom aleichem is my story today. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:50, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

new pics - tired - more to come tomorrow --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:55, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

Peace is part of my wishes every day. Love the bread, looks yummy, and that cathedral ceiling is divine. SusunW (talk) 13:27, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
We returned on Sunday for a service, and prayed for peace together. Pics to come (later today), - first articles, and probably a concert, imagine, of my song of defiance ;) - That unspeakable arbcase resulted in a FA, - not too bad. - I was in Madrid on 1 Nov where they also remembered the dead. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:50, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
Yes, more pics! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:22, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
Lovely, lovely eye candy. I think I could live in a library SusunW (talk) 14:14, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
Thank you ;) - a few more + I proudly remember having sung in an oratorio premiere seven years ago OTD. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:48, 6 November 2023 (UTC)
More, if you like: today I have three items on the Main page, almost too much of a good thing! Bach's amazing cantata with the unusual scale, first performed 300 years ago OTD, the nun for the prostitutes, and Schumann's wedding gift for Clara. Also first day of vacation pics uploaded. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:30, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
Today is St. Martin's Day, which stands for sharing. Sharing one more day of vacation ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:17, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
Lovely, trip from the looks of it. Beautiful sunrise/sunsets, the coastline is pretty, are the rocks coral or lava? and those green flowers, whoever heard of green flowers until one sees them with their own eyes. SusunW (talk) 14:25, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for looking so closely! - I'm not good in geology and Latin names for flowers, - the rocks look just like rock to me, - no coral, no lava. - I began another day of vacation pics, with more rocks and the deepest blue of the sea ;) - we celebrate the birthday of a friend who wrote quite a book about the compositions of a man who will turn 300 soon. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:44, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
Next day of pics - today my topic is a soprano. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:57, 17 November 2023 (UTC)

Different topic: Claude Kahn, and I found this which looks like a historic 1985 recital program from Bogotá. Are there biographical things in it that might be added? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:50, 18 November 2023 (UTC)

He's on the Main page now. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:47, 19 November 2023 (UTC)

Sorry, it's been a zoo at my place. Trying to get ready for Thanksgiving and dealing with computer problems. SusunW (talk) 13:18, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
Sorry to hear that. Hope you can still enjoy Thanksgiving! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:34, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
Time to say thank you for improving article quality, tirelessly, also in November! - My story today is a DYK hook from 13 years ago OTD: about the great music at one of my churches. Mozart's Requiem to come on Sunday, coupled with Arvo Pärt's Da pacem Domine, - I guess you might come if it was a bit closer. Perhaps watch the video of our last production, our first on yt, ever, - one composer from the Argentina, and the other actually came to the second performance. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:24, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. I am really enjoying working through the WIDF activists. I love the photos and all of your work on music. Cats, food, music and beaches. How could life get better? SusunW (talk) 16:48, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
Love it ;) - User Talk:Gerda Arendt#Mozart Requiem: high spirits --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:12, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
