Turtles-Batagurinae

I created one article on the subfamily of Batagurinae. I'll contribute what I can, but some are more knowledgeable than myself. Bruinfan12 (talk) 01:59, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

Swietlan Kraczyna

Hello Suncreator, In August I added more information and conclusive references to the article. Now some time has passed. but the tags remained. I guess the holidays cause delays. In the meantime I got confirmation about the most important pupils of Kraczyna that became independent printmakers. I also contacted Patricia Cordoba, one of them recently, who confirmed that what I added is right. This guy did not just teach at the American highschool in Fiesole, but his career is impressive. Hope the article is now complete according to Wikipedia standards. Best greetings, Kalaharih--Kalaharih (talk) 20:26, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Articles missing from English Wikipedia that are on other language Wiki's

I invite you to join WP:WikiProject Intertranswiki, this is what we are trying to accomplish. We began creating a directory, see Albanian for instance. Granted we need a bot coder to ransack all of the language wikipedias and generate such lists.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:42, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Created with User:FritzpollBot. Thanks! Regards, SunCreator (talk) 12:47, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
User:Fritzpoll is retired. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 12:51, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Sadly, yes. If you want I can create a list in my userspace of the turtles and stub the missing articles if this will help. Will have to be later though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:38, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Sure, that would be great. But how would you create it? Also could you link the listed article. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 13:40, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Malapropism

"Quarantaine Tenements" as you "corrected" in article on Sark, is NOT "quarantine tenements".

"Quarantaine" is (as was explained in the article itself, if you'd read it) is French for "group of forty" (like "Douzaine" is French for "group of twelve") from which we get the word "dozen".

"Quarantine" is a different word (although comes from the same linguistic root), whose ultimate meaning is "a period (originally forty days) of isolation" so as not to pass on an infectious disease.

Please beware that when you see a word which you do not know, it is not always because the person writing it has got it wrong. It is not a good idea to change it to whatever comes into your head that you do recognise, until you have done a modicum of research to ensure that the replacement is accurate. --Matt Westwood 17:14, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi, my mistake, sorry. I did read and research about it, but somehow didn't correct the Sark article like I did here, here and here. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 18:06, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
Sorry to be waspish - but when I see malapropisms like this I scream (I spend much of my professional life arguing with people who neither know nor care about the language they use). Hadn't realised it wasn't your mistake! Yer okay. --Matt Westwood 18:28, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
You may want to use {{Not a typo}} or {{lang}} to make it clear. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 18:30, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
Thx for advice - have done so. --Matt Westwood 18:35, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi, is it possible you could ensure all the BLPs in it are tagged so they join Category:All unreferenced BLPs, there's a lot to take on there.. I see you tagged a fair few of them, but not all. Cheers

BTW if you still want help with the turtle categories please provide me with the url links of the categories with articles you want transferred to english. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:30, 20 September 2011 (UTC)

Moved discussion to Wikipedia_talk:Unreferenced_BLP_Rescue#Hundreds_more_Unreferenced_BLP.2C_plus_many_more. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 13:47, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
If you have any more plans to create lists of pages without articles can you check out WP:Intertranswiki. That was the whole idea of the project and we need somebody to draw up a directory by language.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:31, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
No interest at all from WP:Intertranswiki. I think there will be more interest from active WikiProjects that want to know subject related articles in other Wiki's, but not in, or not linked in, the English one. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 18:45, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

BLP unsourced tags

The best thing to do with unreferenced BLPs created after March 18, 2010 is to stick a BLPPROD template on them. That way, they'll get noticed faster if they're worth saving, and if they're not they can be deleted after 10 days. Right now they're making the very last push to get the number of unreferenced BLPs and the number of BLPPRODded articles to match up (that will mean they've eliminated all the ones created before March 18, 2010), and that will expedite the process. There are a few dedicated users who check BLPPRODded articles worth saving, so you don't have to worry about good content being deleted. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 18:29, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

The BLPPROD process requires that sources are checked for before prodding. I don't have the time or interest to do that, nor deal with all the correspondence that comes from prodding articles. Hence I am only adding the tag. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 02:58, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
Fair enough; that's better than nothing. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 18:29, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

Biology Project

Hello, my name is Marissa. As you know, User:NYMFan69-86 has suggested that I get in touch with you when tackling the Wikipedia project. Our teacher, Mr. Butler, has told us that several Wikipedia members have caught on to the project and will often help other students. I am a bit intimidated at this point, with all the formatting and what not. But any help I can acquire now or down the road I will be more than happy to accept. If you are willing to help, I will get back in touch once we start the articles if I seem to be stuck. Thank you for your time reading this!Marissa927 (talk) 03:28, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

Hello Marissa927! Don't be concerned about the formatting at this point. Others (like me) will come along and correct formatting or point you in the right direction on how to do it yourself. The main aspect for you is creating content based on information in quality sources, which means finding and having quality sources available. Quality sources include physical books, online books, scholarly literature and other literture such as newspapers that are is in some way reviewed for accuracy. Allow a lot of time, and get started as quickly. I'm not sure what your project aim is but if it's to create a top quality article on Wikipedia(called a featured article) in practice it will take 100+ hours of time and then only works out if the suitable quality sources exist to cover every aspect of the subject. Anyway, good luck with you editing and studies! Regards, SunCreator (talk) 14:17, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

Thank you! I would love help editing once we start the bigger process. Our project is to take several article as a class, or possibly small groups assigned to one article, we are still deciding. For know, we have small assignments such as making small edits and spelling corrections. If you would like to know anything else about the project or are interested in helping information can be found on our project page Wikipedia:WikiProject AP Biology 2011. Any help you can offer to me or any of my classmates would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marissa927 (talkcontribs) 00:30, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Dunno if it helps but if anyone is interested in or doing any turtle articles then I recommend they check Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Turtles/Archive_1#Shortlisting(a long list keep scrolling to end of page!) where about 15-20 topics which are ticked as having good prospects of becoming a good article. As a general rule a typical good article has 50+ separate quality sources while a featured one typically has 100+ quality sources and cover every aspect of the topic. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 00:58, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
I highly recommend Spotted turtle. I started working on it then realized...hey, I'm a college student, I have no time! It's a great article and a popular turtle in the literature (and it's more than cute). Great advice SunCreator!--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 05:47, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
But also remember it's easier to do a topic you find interesting and enjoyable. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 20:04, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

Thank you both for the advice. I have heard not to try medical articles, as they often get too confusing and being young high school students we are likely to get overwhelmed. I would like to tell you that my partners are User:imthebombliketicktick, User:Theawesomestpersonyouwillevermeet and User:UND77. If they message you, just know they are part of the project! Thanks again, I'll be sure to check out that spotted turtle. Marissa927 (talk) 03:28, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Pseudemydura umbrina

Heya, P. umbrina is technically monotypic, in that the extinct form is not described and named. However, there is a fossil form of the genus from Riversleigh which is in north Queensland, showing that the genus was once wide ranging and is probably now a relic population. Cheers. References

Hi again! I would like to say thank you for helping with my Spotted Eagle Ray! I'm really enjoying the artivle, y help is greatly appreciated! I was also wondering if you can help me with my references and the format. I've been trying for a while on the Spotted eagle ray article. I was hoping to keep the ref name= type format so I can cite the same source multiple times. --Marissa927 (talk) 19:56, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Okay, will check. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 20:21, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
Tidied some of that up. Basic thing you missed is that when reusing a named reference there is an ending slash i.e <ref name="MyRefName"/>. Another point to bear in mind is that WP:Page numbers are required for sources in books, journals, pdf etc and while they are not required yet, if you ever want to go to FA that are essential so maybe best to add them now even though it's quite a lot of effort both to keep track and work to add reference variations with page numbers. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 20:38, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Thank you soooooo much! I spent a whole class period on those references. Im so glad you helped! Ill keep the ending slash in mind. Ill go have a look at the page numbers also! Marissa927 (talk) 02:10, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Hog Island Sheep

I noticed you've decided to offer some bits of help in my efforts to improve Hog Island Sheep. I hope that the project is a success.

There is another article, Hog Island sheep, with a difference in capitalization that actually is slightly differently written. What is the best way to go about removing the duplication while preserving the information content of the article? Der Elbenkoenig (talk) 04:40, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Good point. I have suggested Hog Island sheep become the main topic because it has material that is referenced prior to your recent addition. Please comment on Talk:Hog Island sheep#Merge. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 16:14, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

AP Biology 2011 navigation

Regards, SunCreator (talk) 14:13, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

Are you good with referencing? :)

Hi, I am from the AP Bio Wiki Project. I was wondering if you could help me with something? I noticed you made an edit to the page I am working on (thank you, by the way!) and was hoping you wouldn't mind helping me with something else. I have the first sentence under "Classification/Names" linked to the second reference under "References". However, the first reference listed is the same as the one underneath and is not linked to anything. I would like to delete it, but I am not sure how. Do you know how to do this/is this necessary? Thank you! (LittleCass 05:01, 24 October 2011 (UTC)) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Littlecass (talkcontribs)

I'm guessing on Long-snouted seahorse‎? Regards, SunCreator (talk) 08:19, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
It's quite unclear what you mean. The first reference is linked, it's the second that is not. I'll amend to what makes sense to me, then you can explain again if necessary. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 08:23, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
I appreciate your help--that definitely cleaned it up. I didn't realize it was the second one that wasn't linked. I realize one of my problems now was that I deleted what my teacher had put in there. I was supposed to keep {{Reflist|colwidth=33em}} under "References" and I mistakenly deleted it thinking that it was...well I don't really know what I thought it was I just didn't think it was supposed to be there. I am having a little trouble placing it back into that format. (LittleCass 01:10, 26 October 2011 (UTC))
Oh and sorry for not including the title of the page I am working on--that wasn't very smart of me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Littlecass (talkcontribs) 01:14, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

The navigation box will indeed be a major time saver. As you guessed, I was bouncing from article to article with multiple tabs, utterly inefficient. I will be certain to share with the students so they can post on their User Page. Again thank you for this as well as your tireless efforts and patience in addressing my students endless list of concerns and pleas for help. I am cautiously optimistic that this year will produce some positive contributions and perhaps a few more dedicated and talented editors for the Wikipedia cause. Time will tell!--JimmyButler (talk) 18:58, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

I knew it was too good to be true. A topic with mountains of references; yet, still a brief summary. The merger produces a rather large document with little opportunity to develop a portfolio. The students were devastated when they awoke this morning to the merged version. It doesn't help that I strongly recommended it! I did not know enough about terrapins that would lead me to believe that there is only one species. Much less that a full article had been fully developed as a general group rather than at the species level. On the plus side, the Project's efforts drew attention to the dichotomy - which they will add to their portfolio. Cheers --JimmyButler (talk) 19:02, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

New Article

Hello...again! I have run into a problem on my Spotted eagle ray article. That is, I don't have enough resources/references that are credible enough for even a GA. I am going to join my other group members and focus on the Diamondback terrapin and the Sand tiger shark. I just wanted to let you know so that you won't put effort into helping me with the old article. --Marissa927 (talk) 03:59, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Have you check for sourced => using google scholar? Regards, SunCreator (talk) 14:33, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
I have used google scholar, but I seem to be running into many articles about other animals that briefly mention the ray. Thank you for the advice, but I am no longer able to do the terrapin either after the merge. When we realized all the info already done we knew we couldn't build great portfolios from the article. We are sticking with the shark for our main article, and maybe adding one more animal. I appreciate your help on the eagle ray. Marissa927 (talk) 02:09, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
Okay, it somewhat depends on the amount of time and research one can do. I've turned out some more references for the spotted eagle ray and put them on the talk:spotted eagle ray page and I may continue developing the article, or I may not depending on my level of interest! Regards, SunCreator (talk) 20:50, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
Okay, so i have been given many references from you and help and suggestions from others, so I have decided to try and at least get GA with this article by Christmas. I am going to leave it at that I believe. For FA we are going to take the shark. But I will continue to edit this article! Marissa927 (talk) 02:24, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for clarifying that it had been using British spelling previously; I saw the "square kilometers" plus all the other American spelling so I hope you'll understand my edits. By the way, might you want to fix another little stylistic issue: should the name be capitalised, as in some places in the text, or not? —innotata 21:41, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for being so understanding about the spelling, I like to retain spelling rather then let it drift because the majority or editors are North America based. At some point consistancy will be required for 'Angonoka'; it is a mystery and could be a proper noun. Investigation has so far drawn a blank. Also, it's a student topic that maybe best left for students to fix or at least be made aware of. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 22:29, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the info; yes, I know we should retain the spelling (I also looked at the very oldest versions). For the name, I think I'll post to the talk page to see if those working on the article can find out. If it's borrowed from a Malagasy species name, it probably should be sentence case, and maybe sans "tortoise" as in the IUCN's entry. —innotata 22:38, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I wanted to let you know that I have challenged your CSD A7 on Rahman Mostafiz (1979---) and replaced it with a BLPPROD. In my opinion the claim regarding his popular and controversial poem is a sufficient claim of importance to pass criteria A7. Monty845 14:07, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Move

After looking over the article I am curious about this move that you performed. Every usage of Wester Quoll in the article has both words capitalized. cheers --Guerillero | My Talk 05:00, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

WP:CAPS is pretty clear, "For page titles, always use lowercase after the first word, and do not capitalize second and subsequent words, unless the title is a proper noun". With birds being the exception. The article contents per MOS:CAPS would be appropriately changed to sentence case. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 13:56, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
I guess I will copy edit the article so its in sentence case. I was just wondering based on the inconsistency between the title and the article. I did not see the naming guide for fauna. cheers. --Guerillero | My Talk 19:51, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
