Benet Academy

Thanks for keeping an eye on the Benet page - it's one of the few I watch as well. On your recent edit deleting alumni with fact tags, I think that you were approaching it in the wrong fashion (I actually made the same mistake myself once). The cited info should prove that the person is in fact an alumni of Benet, and on most of the people listed, that isn't the case (the citation only references why the person is notable). Since many of those are from the pre-internet era (or borderline so), I really think that anyone listed that has a Wikipedia page themselves which confirms the Benet connection and isn't debated should be left on the list (yes, circular reasoning, but I've done searches for info before and it simply isn't out there on the net). As a former Benet student myself, I know that, for one, Jim Ryan definitely went to school. Frankly, I think that the list should only be pruned for notability or completely false statements.

Virginia DOC

The link you gave to WP:NOTMEMORIAL says that Wikipedia "is not the place to honor departed friends and relatives. Subjects of encyclopedia articles must satisfy Wikipedia's notability requirements." So, since the table wasn't honoring my departed friends or relatives, wouldn't that satisfy the notability requirements as the names had to do with the article itself? Most DOC and law enforcment articles have Fallen Officer tables in them. So, why remove the table? I'm just sort of perplexed why that one article had to have it removed. Quick question on Fairbanks Daily News-Miner cats

I know we disagree about the "Early Years" section on this article (I'll go back and rewrite it shorter once I figure out where I'm taking the article; I do think you've got a point), and I wanted to ask you a question about the general MediaNews Group category box. I browsed over to the MediaNews Web site, and it [doesn't list the News-Miner or Kodiak Daily Mirror as properties http://www.medianewsgroup.com/properties/] in light of that and the citation I added about ownership, do you think it'd be appropriate to remove those two papers from the link box? Oh, I've found sources that state that the paper is owned by two family trusts -- those of Dean Singleton and Richard Scudder, the founders of MediaNews. I think the confusion arises from the fact that the News-Miner takes advantage of that connection when purchasing supplies and things like that. Recent Antalya Work

Just a few words of appreciation for your efforts at moving the Antalya article toward encyclopedic standards. Coupled with that, an observation: while not a travel guide, many elements that may naturally be at home someplace like WikiTravel may, in the proper form, be appropriate at this venue; to point: features connected to but outside of the municipality may merit some mention here as a utility to this article. Not looking like a travel guide is a secondary consideration to including pertinent content; your edits seem to me judicious- when leaving edit comments, however, indicating municipal boundary as cause isn't as decisive as a judgment of pertinence. I created historiography of the Crusades. You seem to understand the subject of the article well, whose purpose is to better distinguish the actual events from the historical perception of the events, an issue which is highly sociological and which often resembles debates surrounding other historical events, such as the Inquisition or the Witch hunts. By the way, User:Adam Bishop apparently read the article and added it to the Crusades project. He had already been planning to create an article about historiography, but I guess I did it before him. Dunfermline

Melbourne Village

Am ok with the caps on subtitles, but FYI -- for my "day job", I write lots of proposals for the US Gov't, and their writing standards include the use of Title Caps on subsections. The professional technical writers and editors that we employ also use Title Case for these instances. With reference to " Indian Orthodox Church", please dont add back the heading, "Anglican" Influence, it got nothing to do with the church history and please dont add the title "Further Divisions and Split" because no Orthodox christian would like to see such and heading on their church page and also thats not what should be there on the church's page. Page duplication alert

separate article on ST. thomas christian history already exists

editors are please requested to check wikipedia pages before they create new pages, in order to avoid duplication. A separate article dealing with history of the saint thomas christian history already exists. It is called History of the Saint Thomas Christian tradition. It has been in existence for a long time and with references. It has been edited by several hundreds of people over a long time.

A new article without references has been created on the same topic called History of the Saint Thomas Christians by largely a single author user:student7 only two weeks ago on 2nd of may 2009. Much of the new article is without references and most of all the topic is a duplication of a page that already exists. It has to be redirected to the already existing article that is being constantly edited by several hunderds of people over a long time. Vagab (talk) 10:39, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

I suggest using the "New section" link at the top of a talk page to create a new section instead of editing the last section on the page, so that this does not happen again. It happened because the section that you edited was actually transcluded from another page, so you edited the transcluded page. I had moved your message to the actual talk page. Articles on Saint Thomas Christians

I am not keen in merging or correcting or even deleting these articles. So I do not wish to make any comments. These articles are not scholarly but political ones.

Almost all the entries about Mar Thoma Church in the article Saint Thomas Christian tradition are not true and are unacceptable. It seems that someone keeps on writing like this probably thinking that if a lie is repeated 100 times it becomes a truth. (For the hundredth one, he will have 99 citations to quote). Also that makes me think that all the other entries in this article are equally false.

The entries are not based on any historical facts. They and even some of their references are of no use when there are records available at the archives in India and in Kerala. I am sure that ancient records and buildings that are still standing intact, within the four corners of Kerala is mocking at these statements.

All Malankara Syrian Christians are Malayalies and their mother tongue is Malayalam. But the names given in these articles on Malankara Christians belong to some other language or some other age.

Two statements given at the beginning in the rough chronology are selected below and my questions are given in brackets. The remaining statements are nothing better than this one.

In my, opinion, these articles seems to have been written by the wise for the foolish to believe. So I prefer these articles be left untouched.Neduvelilmathew (talk) 01:12, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

History according to some

That template's content was of the view that Jacobite Syrian Church came under Antiochene Patriach only in the 16th century which is not a view accepted by all but a portion of the historians of Indian Church. I am no way accusing you of any bias my friend. IMO history compilations are rarely helpful and often lead to issues like this. Rather What we could do is put up a template on the histories put up by each church as that it is view held by them and maybe even point to a neutral article.

The reason I didn't edit the history was that I didn't want to mess up the template created you.

Btw about the chart The Malankara Catholic Church split from the Malankara Orthodox Church not from Jacobite Syrian Church. You can check it over the internet.

Antiochean bishops in Kerala

The Jacobite Syrian Church came under Antiochene Patriach only in the 16th century, is not a correct statement. A section of that Church came under the Antiochene Patriarch only in 1876. (ME. Edavom 19, 1051) at the Synod of Mulanthuruthi. (For details refer: Mulanthuruthi Padiola)

There is a common belief that bishops from Antioch who had visited the Malankara Church regularly, had some kind of jurisdiction over Malankara Church. Many people may believe it. But there are no historical evidences to support this belief. To understand how they happened to come to Malankara (Kerala), purpose of their visit, how they spent their time there, and why most of them were banished from Kerala are given in the annals of the Dutch East India Company. (Ref:Press List of Ancient Dutch Records-1657-1825.)

Moreover, It is believed by many, that Mar Gregorius Abdul Jaleel who confirmed the consecration of Mar Thoma I in 1665 came from Antioch. But recent discoveries of some of his own papers, throw doubt on this claim.Neduvelilmathew (talk) 15:29, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Humble Request

1. Why have a chart and timeline on the Indian Orthodox church page, when none of the other kerala churches do not have them.

2. The Chart is utterly wrong. The first Eurpoeans to set foot in India, are portuguese in the 15th century. They brought Catholicism. The British in the 19th century brought Anglican church to India.

3. About the heading, 'Anglican Influence', the orthodox church had a small time association with the anglicans, say less than 50 years. Is that a BIG history that should be put on the page for a 2000 year old Church.

HOW MANY TIMES I HAVE PUT THE CORRECT HISTORY FROM THE OFFIICAL CHURCH WEBISTE, AND ALWAYS YOU CHANGE. I ADVISE YOU FIRST STUDY AND UNDERSTAND THAT WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS NOTHING BUT SPOILING THE PAGE. ALLOW MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH TO CHANGE THE PAGE ACCORDING TO THEIR WISH OR ELSE YOU STUDY HISTORY AND MAKE YOUR THE CHANGES YOURSELVES.

Category:Roman Catholic Church sex abuse scandal

I would personally prefer Roman Catholic sex abuse cases instead of Sex abuse cases of the Roman Catholic Church because the first name indicates that the cases are being committed by certain deviant individuals, and not by the Church itself. The Church is comparable to a large human corporation, which includes both laity and clergy with all their faults, and so to imply that the abuse cases are of the Roman Catholic Church would be like writing Sex abuse cases of the United States of America or Sex abuse cases of the People's Republic of China, which is technically inaccurate, at least in human terms. All SOAPBOX stuff in regard to Syro Malabar Catholic Church needs to be deleted

Wikipedia has IMHO lost its credibility to serious seekers of information because anyone may write an article anyone may edit it. Although Wikipedia claims anyone may upload images, messages and edit, the Syro Malabar Catholic Church page has pictures uploaded to sell a particular political view, which cannot be changed. Someone is following every change minutely and making changes promptly to suit their own political agenda. So what good does any attempt at adding information do? Who gets to make decisions on what kind of information may or may not be posted? So all input that reeks of political takes need to be deleted. The images, although political have been protected. History of Schismatic Churches in Kerala

Until the arrival of the Portuguese in 1498, there were only St Thomas Christians in Kerala (referred to as Malabar in earlier writings). Roman Catholics set up their missionary base in Cochin under Portuguese rulers and converted Hindus to Roman Catholicism. Synod of Diamper (Udayamperur) of 1599 which took place in Cochin, within the boundary of king of Cochin, who had granted the Portuguese trading rights, brought all St Thomas Christians in full communion with RCC. The first schism, Coonan Cross Oath (Koonan Kurushu Sathyam), took place at Mattancherry near Fort Cochin in 1653. While St Thomas Christians in full communion with Roman Catholic Church continued to follow the Syriac Liturgy of Addai and Mari, there is a big blank on what Rite the schismatics followed, although they claim to have got a bishop from the Middle East in 1665. Their history is picked up again in Kottayam in Travancore State with the arrival of CMS British missionaries. The Divinity college run by CMS trained schismatic clergy for 20 years. The further divisions among schismatics took place after that. A Jacobite bishop from the Middle East made his first appearance after that. The original schismatics of 1653 call themselves Malankara. Some of them became Jacobites, some others joined full communion with the Anglican church and became the Mar Thoma Church. In 1930, some of the Jacobites and Malankara joined forces and came in full communion with RCC. None of them follow the original Liturgy followed by the St Thomas Christians. There is no proof whatsoever that they were St Thomas Christians who broke away originally in 1653. Hartford Village Historic District

I'm in kind of a debate with User:Nyttend about whether Hartford Village Historic District is better off merged together with Hartford (village), Vermont. I'm not sure how familiar you are with Vermont's historic districts on the National Register of Historic Places but your local knowledge would be helpful in determining whether separate articles or one unified article is better. Please see the (long) discussion at Talk:List of RHPs in CT for background discussion on why it is almost always appropriate to allow NRHP historic district articles to grow separately from articles about the towns, unincorporated villages, other political entities that may include them. For one thing, it is hard to have the debate about a merger if there is not separate development of information on both topics, which are usually clearly different. Note, a historic district is like a museum, and its importance is in how its artifacts, mostly buildings, speak to some events and period of history. A village has history preceding that, not spoken to by the buildings, and modern history, and so on. doncram (talk) 07:40, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Having User:CactusWriter's talk page on my watchlist still, I noticed your note to him about copying the text from another Wikipedia article. As Wikipedia:Splitand Help:Merge set out, when we duplicate material from one article to another, we have to provide a direct link to the source article. This is all very interesting, but I am working on my 20,0001st edit and I have seldom, if ever, seen this done in actual practice. The material was clearly in the wrong place to start with - a large school history in the middle of an article about a religious congregation, where it clearly did not belong. It's a legal requirement. Please note at the bottom of every edit screen it currently says, "You agree to be credited, at minimum, through a hyperlink or URL when your contributions are reused in any form." Good catch on the education stat. In my head it was "Education" not "Schools". It's in the same place on the other municipality pages, so they'll need to be moved.

As for the bolds being removed, could you point out where in the Wikipedia:MOS it talks about bolding? I did a quick scan and couldn't find anything. I don't doubt it's there, but I'd like to see what it says, as I've formatted lists like that on the other city pages and eventually I'd like to solidify a format. Dunfermline

please understand this, student7. during my recent work on Kirkcaldy to aim towards FA status, i was advised to cut down the length of the article and to merge some sections (such as sports into culture). no other user has told me that i couldn't do this and that i was ignoring the guidelines. if i had left sports as a seperate article, Kirkcaldy would be too long to meet the requirements. other examples such as Glenrothes and Dundee don't have seperate articles, the info is incorporated in culture. sport clubs are "part" of a town's/city's culture aren't they. there isn't enough sports info to warrant a seperate section, maybe i could add a bit more about Pittencrieff Park, but the point is the history and importance of the park are part of Dunfermline's culture.

also the reason i'm removing the notables section all the time is there are no references at all and are we sure that John Forbes was "even" born in Dunfermline? thing i read that he was actually born in Edinburgh, but was brought up in Pittencrieff House, according to the Dunfermline Carnegie Trust. I can not agree with the statements by User:Neduvelilmathew. He says the language is Malayalam. I hope he knows when Malayalam was developed as a language.

While talking about fifteen century Malayalm doesnot know come in picture. The old documents of this community are mostly in Syriac. Most of these are published in English, Latin and Portuguese with the documents available from 16th century onwards.

For the first fifteen century or for a common article , there are plenty sources available to use for citation.

Malankara

I can not agree with the statements in History of the Saint Thomas Christians &: Template:Indian Christian History 52-1653. Most of the statements are nonsense with no references from any records that I am aware and accounts for misrepresentation. There is lot of nonsense in Wikipedia in Thomas history. There are also forking which I have already noted on the talk page. At present I am more interested in correcting the Syro Malabar Church article with proper references and true – quotations.

Of course there would be some shared history in that article. I don’t see anything wrong in that, when it is properly referenced and based on facts. This is considering that the other articles are sourcless ie, most of the statements which even has citation can not be found.

I will definitely look in to those articles when I have time. I don’t know why there is any need of 6 or 7 articles about shared history. It is waste of time and forking.In my opinion, these articles need to be merged as i noted on the talk pagePamparam (talk) 05:25, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Bishops sending stuff to India, 883

It might be that the "Bishop of Sherborne" bit should come out. The Chronicle entry for 883 says that Sighelm and Æþelstan went to Rome and to India (and þy ilcan geare laedde Sighelm and æþelstan þa ælmessan to Rome the ælfred cyning gehet þyder, and eac on Indea to Sancte Thome and to Sancte Bartholomeæ). It does not mention Sighelm's position nor Æthelstan's. Either one might have been a monk or a thegn or a soldier or anything.

I believe this is the only record of the journey (it does not even say they managed to get to India) but that there were later Mediaeval expansions of the legend, which might have added unreliable material, promoting Sighelm to be a bishop.

Actually, you reverted the phrase I fixed back to "tore up" yourself for some reason, along with two other unrelated edits. To explain this further, the original Russian phrase is "разорвать соглашение" which literally means "to tear up [the] agreement". The correct English translation of the verb in this case is "to dissolve". Evidently, someone tried to translate this from a Russian source lacking the knowledge of the proper connotation in one of the languages. A Somali moslem is adding data not needed, like about the Bantu used by the Italian colonists in plantations (but what has to do this fact with catholicism in Somalia?). Can you help?

Hi, Student7! You have helped me with wikistuff before, I hope you can figure out what is going on with an article I follow. The article is Rockridge, Oakland, California. For some reason while I was editing a recent change, the "references tag needed" error flag appeared. It showed up when I previewed my changes before saving. I hadn't changed the existing tag, which was { { reflist } } (without the spaces, obviously) and neither had the previous editor, so I can't imagine why it was suddenly demanding a tag which had been there all along and was still there. I tried replacing the { { reflist } } tag with a < references / > tag, but it still wasn't happy. Changing back to { { reflist } } doesn't work either. I am baffled. Can you figure out what it wants? Hi, Student7. I wanted you to know why I'm about to rvt your statement, newly added to Florida Department of Environmental Protection about half of Florida's waterways being rated as poor. As far as I know, the statement is true, and you have a reasonable ref for it. I'm reverting it because the DEP article is the wrong place for it. One could stretch things, I suppose, and add a section to the DEP article on "Important findings or decisions", but, really, this sort of information belongs in the state article or some article dealing with the state's environment or waters in general (if there is such an article). Jacobite Syrian Church

The history always is written by victors. History is not objective but subjective. If a Syro Malabar Catholic write Indian Syrian Church history it will have a Catholic perspective, if a Syriac Orthodox Christian write it, it will have a catholic perspective. So I am against a template of common history for all the Syrian Churches in India. No Syrian Church in India agree on a thing in history other than the arrival of St. Thomas ;-D

So what I was planning to do was to write a history myself adding references later. Sorry for not commenting in the summary. I hope you understand.

Also an accurate study on the history of the church in India is impossible because there are not enough evidences on the pre-colonial years. Most even destroyed or set to file during the inquisition by Aleixo de Menezes. Even colonial writing are biased. I dont have any problems with Neduvelilmathew or some of the other old editors of all these articles. I know its difficult to arrive at consensus but the current state is very faulty. I have copies of many books referenced in these articles and can guarantee that the sources has been mis referenced not done by any one in particular but has just happened with all edits. I have complete opposite opinion. Here what are the official records of 16th and 17th century ? Who has published those information ? Anglicans came only in the middle of 19th century and they are not any sources for prior periods when there are primary sources of 16th and 17th century exist. About Did You Know, you ought to try it, it's simple - and they accept pretty much any nomination if it meets the criteria for length, citations, etc. It has to be a NEW artiicle, nominated within a week of being created or expanded x5. I don't know who does the checking and approving, presumably an administrator; there isn't usually much if any discussion. Anyone including the creator of the article can nominate. I found out about the process quite by accident when somebody nominated my article about Bejun Mehta. This one if accepted will be my third DYK!

Re: San Diego County Indian reservations

All supporting data for my addition to the article can be found at the Census Bureau's American Factfinder page. One can find the area, population, county of location for each individual Indian reservation here. This will take a little time to assemble, as each reservation has to be selected individually, and there a some 315 or so Indian reservations. Once the list has been assembled (into spreadsheet form), one merely has to count the reservations which fall into your particular county of concern, in this case San Diego County, California. My use of the word "only" was in relative to the general size of California reservations (much smaller, although, just count 'em!, very numerous) when compared to those across the nation. A full listing of the sizes of all reservations will reveal that California reservations are relatively much smaller than those of most other areas, particularly those of the desert and Great Plains states. That was what the word "only" referred to. It was not my opinion of what I thought their size should be; it was only their relative size compared to those in other states. Mississippi

Your recent edits to the Mississippi article, though I won't revert them, seem a bit misplaced. Comments are not meant to go into the text of an article. If you'd like to discuss anything about certain sections, phrasings, etc. in an article, use the talk page of the article to do so... especially when the comments are simply your opinions about those sections. Normally HTML comments are only used in templates or infoboxes to alert editors to special circumstances or other reasons that don't pertain to the actual text of the article. I won't undo the changes, but I suggest moving these comments over to the talk page for further discussion.

As far as the actual comments themselves, I wrote most of the religion section myself, and I assure you the text sticks to the references. A good portion of the section comes from this link about religious history in Mississippi, wherein most of the facts you claim to be fanciful are clearly laid out. Biracial churches did exist before the civil war, and there were many calls for social equality long before the civil rights movement of the 1960s/70s. I would suggest reading the article linked and the others cited in that section for a more complete version of religious history in the state instead of assuming you know more than the well-versed historians that have written these sources. --Dudemanfellabra (talk) 23:31, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

How do I nominate an article for deletion?

I'm trying to delete an article about a non-notable school and I don't seem to be doing it right. I tried following the instructions at WP:Articles for deletion. I pasted the template { { subst:afd1 } } at the top of the page and tried "preview" to see if it had worked. But instead of just the "nominated for deletion" notice, a bunch of other instructions appeared below the notice, and that didn't look right, so I didn't save the page. Have you done this before? Is that normal?

The page I want to delete is Albert Einstein Academy Charter School, a K-8 charter school within San Diego Unified, that doesn't seem particularly notable. I understand that high schools are pretty much assumed to be notable but lower schools have to establish their notability, and this one hasn't. Any advice? I would caution against being overzealous in applying WP:TOPIC. Certainly there are gray areas in virtually any statements so I am not saying there is always a clear right or wrong. But by trying too hard to focus on an article's topic you can a) potentially loose valuable context in explaining the material, and b) potentially imply something misleading by avoiding mentioning other things that might be involved. There is nothing seriously problematic with your edits although I would make the observation that some readers might interpret your wording to mean that ALL of the refugees who abandoned Galveston moved to Pasadena. Not a major misunderstanding if they did, though.

regarding tibet

All reputable western governments and media outlets regard tibet as a province of China. They only want to highlight the fact that tibet is under oppression (which is unfortunately true). However, in terms of territory, all sources count tibet within China, this includes CIA Factbook.
